7yrs, 15 Memories, 1 regret

February 03, 2007

First post…..

Often I am asked, ” What are you doing?”

Nine out of ten times the answer is “working”.

When I had my store “Daffodil Hill” I loved writing my quarterly newsletter filled with my latest explorations.  It was fun to give everyone a peak inside my overflowing mind. As of today, take a seat.  We are all in for a wonderful ride.  Join me for endless hours at the ironing board to loading the trailer for the next art fair, from behind the sewing machine to the sea of ribbon spools. Did I forget to mention the trials and tribulations of launching a new company.  Ahhh..the joy of it all!

A word to the wise:

I am new to this blogging bit. I will try to be exciting and change my  9 out of 10 answer to something besides work.

Today

Last night Gabe and I were googling Matilda Jane. Yes, I google Matilda Jane. It’s fun for me to see such an array photos I wouldn’t see if I didn’t. It brought me to my old blog. I laughed when I saw it was exactly 7 yrs ago! Happy Seven Year Blog Anniversary.

3

And let’s take a quick glance at my life 7 years ago.

1. Gabe had just turned 1 and was into EVERYTHING

2. I had just got the “red table”. I just noticed the Patagonia catalog on it. Still love Patagonia today.

3. I was doing Art Fair and my garage was my warehouse.

4. Chris. Oh, Chris. Loved that girl and still. She now runs the warehouse at MJC. I moved a few blocks down so I don’t get to see her as much…but gosh I love her.

5. Laker Hockey. The boys and I went to almost every game for 4 years. It was such a great time. Still huge fans.

6. My make shift office, though I admit this was totally staged for a photo shoot.

7. Only thing that has changed in that photo is the baby food!

8. Lulu. Only thing different is she is now 12. You’ll still see her in photoshoots and we are still neighbors.

9. YUP….see #1.

10. How were they that little. Gabe and Joe have outgrown the sled and are now skiing/snowboarding.

11. I had just met Betsy King. She photographed our family that year and has many since. Reminds me I still owe her money!

12. This was the girl who helped me start trying to do Trunk Shows. My fave art fair customer. We both got so busy trying to make MJC work that are lives became completely separate and we lost our friendship. My one regret.

13. I had so many of these “unpredictable” onsies that Gabe wore them just about everyday. Someone had to.

14. Sweet Joe. He still loves Matilda Jane as much as he always has. Seriously, he has a big opinion in the clothing world.

15. Carlee. Her mom, Renae, runs the warehouse Chris. She’s no longer my neighbor but man, love that girl. Without her or Chris I’m not really sure we would be celebrating the 7yr anniversary. 7 years ago we were all neighbors. Babysitting, sewing buttons, ironing, loading trucks and being great friends was our life.

Crazy right.

Seven years ago. I am so happy I decided to start blogging. Some days better than others. Looking back has been so much fun.

-Denise

P.S. I gotta finish looking at pics on Facebook then I’ll post by tomorrow the winners.

Gran - February 3, 2014 - 3:55 pm

Thank you Denise for the trip down MJC Memory Lane through these photos and posts. I have always LOVED that picture of Gabe with the buttons on his foot and yes, I know that Joe does have an eye for fashion after seeing the bags he designed. Is that your Sara Brown in the Lakers pic? I am so glad you started blogging too. And you know what I’ll bet your friend in 12 would enjoy re-connecting too. Happy 7 years!!!!
Oh, Chris’s phone does put a date on that picture.

Fancy Nancy - February 3, 2014 - 3:52 pm

It is hard to believe it has been 7 years! Happy Blog Anniversary, look forward to reading many more from you!!

KaMarlowete - February 3, 2014 - 3:49 pm

This was an encouraging blog post. We’re always right in the middle of our lives, aren’t we. And then we look a little back and we see how we were both totally in control and completely lost in moments past, an somehow, that’s inspiring.

Becky - February 3, 2014 - 3:44 pm

What a legacy Matilda Jane has grown in to in such short years. I wish you much success over the next 7 years and beyond. And, I am sure your friend in picture 12 remembers you as sweetly as you do her. I have some very dear friends that time, years and family (particularly babies) took us apart too, but the best thing about these relationships is that we can always pick it right back up from when we last spoke, whether it is 1 month or 1 year. I hope you find that you can do that with your girlfriend again. I love you and your company.

Jenn - February 3, 2014 - 3:39 pm

Seriously?? How good is it to having you blogging so much recently??? LOVE

Tracy D - February 3, 2014 - 3:29 pm

When are you going to give us Art Fair Details??? We are all dying to know! And I know you are loving stringing us along…
🙂 Don’t keep us waiting too long the suspense is agonizing.

Monika M. - February 3, 2014 - 3:28 pm

What a funny coincidence, my girls are home sick today and are currently giggling like crazy watching videos from 2007!!!

Erica S - February 3, 2014 - 3:25 pm

Congratulations and thank you for sharing all of the amazing things you do on your blog. I had the same one regret about a lost friendship, but I was lucky enough to rekindle it after YEARS! Hope the same is possible for you! Love your blog post, as usual!!

Maryann E. - February 3, 2014 - 3:22 pm

I wish I knew about MJC before 1 year ago! But I’m a fan for as long as my little darling lets me dress her in it!

Cheri - February 3, 2014 - 3:16 pm

Thanks for sharing some of the history! I’m a newbie–just had my first show yesterday–but MJ has captivated me!

Jennifer McCarty - February 3, 2014 - 3:15 pm

Lucky number 7! My daughter has been wearing Matilda Jane for 7 years. I was in love the minute I laid eyes on your designs. Each day I dress her, I pray she never says she doesn’t want to wear it, so until then the cuteness continues. Thank you for helping me dress my little girl like a little girl.

Rochelle Jerla - February 3, 2014 - 3:15 pm

Love all the memories..

Brooke - February 3, 2014 - 3:09 pm
