Candid Keepers #369

Introducing:

Ashley Crawley of Littleton, CO (WooHoo!!)

Most Valued Form of Character:

Integrity

Q:  Please tell us a bit about yourself.  Where are you from and where are you now?

A:  I grew up in Grand Haven Michigan, a small town right on lake Michigan. I pretty much lived there my whole childhood and after high school went to Michigan State, Go Spartans!

After graduating college I moved to Colorado on a whim with one of my college roommates and have never left.  I now live in Littleton Colorado and love it!

Q:  How did you meet and fall in love with your husband?

A:  Get ready for the romance… I’m kidding, we met in a BAR! We were at a happy hour with mutual friends and met through them… he is a southern boy and I guess I just couldn’t resist the southern accent (or his red hair!).

Q:  What about those gorgeous babies???  Tell us all about them.

A:  I have two daughters, Emory, who is five and just started kindergarten! It seems crazy that she is already old enough for school.  She is a blast to be around (unless she is hungry!) and she loves to sing and dance at all times. Hadley is our youngest and she is three, she is sweet yet feisty and only has one volume, LOUD. It non-stop chaos in our house, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Q:  What did you do in your previous life?  Pre-Matilda Jane?

A:  Before starting with Matilda Jane, I worked in Strategic Sourcing for a major Telecom company.  Sounds thrilling, right?  I actually did enjoy the work, but it got to a point where I was leaving the house before my girls were awake and would only be able to spend a few hours with them each night.   About a year ago, I decided to stay home full time.  About 8 months into being home, my husband and I decided that maybe I should look for something part time (impossible, right?).  Right then, the opportunity to become a Trunk Keeper for Matilda Jane popped up. As corny as this will sound, it did really seem like it was meant to be.

Q:  What is your favorite part of working for Matilda Jane?

A:  This is a tough one, there are so many things.  After starting with MJC, I immediately went to the Trunk keeper dress rehearsal and was able to meet so many unbelievable women! I already had an idea that there were some pretty incredible women working here just from my own experience working with my very own trunk keeper Lauren, but I guess I just didn’t think that EVERYONE I met would be so great.   It just feels good to be part of something with so much heart.  Not to mention, I get to sell the most beautiful clothes out there!

Q:  If you could wear one item every day, what would that be?

A:  I would say my Charlie dress.  I love it! This dress is so versatile, you can wear it with boots, sandals, a belt… there are just so many ways to dress it up or down.  Plus, it is comfortable!

Q:  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A:  Hmmm… geez, these are tough questions.  It’s that interview all over again! I guess bottom line, I just want to be in a place where I can focus on my family and give them what they need and soak up every minute I can with them, but also be able to have something just my own, that I can feel successful and proud of professionally.  I certainly hope that something is still Matilda Jane five years down the road.

Q:  What are your favorite blogs or websites you visit EVERY day?

A:  OK, now this is embarrassing, I would die if anyone saw how many blogs I subscribe to in my google reader, it drives my husband nuts!  I am a sucker for celebrity gossip, fashion, etc.. so I would have to say that I most look forward to reading dayoldnews and possesionista each day! I feel like I should probably give you some inspirational or uplifting blog, but I just can’t help it.. these are my favorites!

Q:  Besides your children, what has your greatest accomplishment been thus far?

A:  This one is really tough, I mean, obviously my kids and my husband make me the most proud, but I can’t chose them.   I guess I would say maintaining my friendships over the years.  I truly value my friends so much and several of them live so far far away from me, but I love that no matter how long it’s been since I’ve seen them, it seems like we haven’t missed a beat! I treasure my friendships so much and I feel like it is an accomplishment to keep them strong with all the craziness of life!

Q:  Share with us just ONE very important thing you do to try to leave this world a better place.

A:  I really, really try to teach my kids to be kind and to be a good friend.  I sometimes fail miserably, but I just think that kindness is so important and is often just forgotten.  I know it means so much to me when people are kind to me or my kids and I just want to instill that in my kids so that they are that way when they grow up.

Q:  What is your favorite holiday and why?

A:  Probably Christmas, doesn’t everyone choose this?  I just love everything about it.. the baking, decorating the tree, time with family and the anticipation of Christmas morning.  I just have such great memories of Christmas growing up and I love it even more now that I have kids.

Q: How have you learned to balance life with the many, many hats you wear?

A:  Unfortunately, I still have not learned this.  I am trying… but I struggle.  It is a daily challenge to give my kids & husband the attention they deserve, enter orders, keep up with the house, etc.  I think this is tough, I want to be able to focus on the important things like my kids, my relationships, etc… but it is so easy to get swept up in the day to day junk. I need to learn to let the mopping go for a week (or five).

Q:  What is the most valuable lesson you hope to instill in your children?

A:  No Whining!  No, I guess Just like I mentioned in one of the earlier questions, kindness and how to show grace to others. It is such a simple thing, but it is so important!

Q:  Salty or sweet?

A:  I can’t choose… I love salty and could eat chips and salsa all day long, but,  I can’t resist the sweets.  I love the sweets!

Q:  What do you love most about having kids?

A:  I love being so important.  That sounds so stupid, but they still need me for so much and they want to be with me, and tell me they love me and hug and kiss me (believe me, I am relishing this while it lasts, I know things will change when they are older!)…. And I don’t have to work for it.  They just love me, just because I am their mom.

Q:  If you could have lunch with any celebrity, who would you choose and why?

A:  Hmmm.. well, I am married, so I guess I can’t say Ryan Gosling?  I don’t know.. for how much I love my celebrity gossip you would think I would have a list ready, but I am just not a super fan of any one person.

Q:  If you could have Sam design any item for Matilda Jane, what would it be and why?

A:  Swimsuits for little girls!

Q:  Lastly, in the spirit of Heart~Soul~Pride, what in your opinion is the most important form of character?

A:  Just one?? I guess, I would say integrity. I think at the end of the day, if I know the decisions I’ve made and what I have done in my life, I’ve done with integrity, I think I can feel good about that.

The trunk keepers are always so beautiful, and your families are so beautiful. Either beautiful people are attracted to Matilda Jane or if Matilda Jane makes people more beautiful. Probably the combination. Maybe it’s just all of the inner beauty shining through.

I just returned from South Haven, MI….my heaven on earth. Colorado must be very beautiful if you’ve traded South Haven for there.
