Oh Vaughn, what can I say about a girl who loves cheeseburgers, treasures her friends and married her worst date ever! I loved getting to know your little corner of the world and vow to share your favorite dish with MY family this week. This little Indiana girl is definitely one to call for your next trunk show. She’ll knock your socks off!
Q: Tell us about yourself. Where you live, where you grew up and tell us a little bit about your family.
A: My name is Vaughn Cockrum and I live in Boonville, IN (Southern IN~ right outside of Evansville). We moved up here with my husband Keith’s job almost 4 years ago from the Nashville, TN area. We have four kids, a dog & an albino hedgehog… the “All American family” right?? I grew up in Columbia, TN (Mule Capital of the world) which is about 45 minutes south of Nashville & lived there until college. My parents, Sam & Vicki have been married for 39 years. I have ONE sister, ONE aunt, ONE uncle & ONE cousin. Vaughn was my mom’s maiden name. I have a very tight group of girlfriends that I have had since grade school & one from preschool! We added a few in college, which we might as well have known forever, too! I graduated from MTSU with a degree in Public Relations, which I never used. I went into banking & mortgage, where I met my husband on a blind date set up by a colleague (WORST date ever, but look where we are now) and what I did until moving here in 2008. Once moving here, I decided to concentrate on being a mom, BEST job ever…. However the toughest!!!
Q: Describe what kind of child you were.
A: I’d love to say I was an angel, but I’m afraid the people that know me well might be reading this and say that’s not true. Independent is a good word, followed by Stubborn with a capital S. I definitely tested my parent’s limits!! My mom loves when my kids act the same way! She laughs and calls it “The Mother’s Curse!”
Q: Are you much the same today as you were back then?
A: In a way, yes……
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Going to Disney World. I can’t wait to take my kids this fall.
Q: Tell us about your children.
A: Our oldest daughter, Carly (my step-daughter) is 13; she is an exceptional student, volleyball player & track star! Our son, Jakob is 8 and he is an old soul! He’s a 30 year old man trapped in an 8 year old body! If all kids could be this easy….. although the questions this boy can ask!!!! Our youngest daughter, Cooper (almost 5) is a born diva. She loves to sing, dance and put on a show all the time! And our youngest Liam (almost 3) is a handful! He has the sweetest smile, but is into EVERYTHING! He keeps me on my toes!
Q: If you could ensure one thing about your children’s future, what would that be?
A: That they are Happy! That really is the most important thing!
Q: If you could leave your children with only one piece of advice, what would you choose to say to them?
A: Always be honest… to yourself mainly and others! It’s always the best policy. Will save you a lot of trouble in the future!
Q: What is the best part about being a mother?
A: Being their mother. Period. Sharing all the milestones and important days in their lives! AMAZING!
Q: What is the worst part?
A: Worrying and I know it will only get worse!
Q: What is your ALL –TIME favorite meal?
A: Cheeseburgers!! I know they are terrible for you, but they are soooo good!
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Jerry Maguire. “You had me at Hello”.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: The Great Gatsby! I can’t wait to see the new movie!
Q: Besides your Mother, who is the strongest female influence in your life? Why?
A: My Aunt Susan. She is always there when I need her. Ready to listen and give advice. Life has thrown her some curves but she is tough and always comes out on top!
Q: Besides your children, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
A: I guess at this moment. Making the best of our move to Evansville. It was tough moving away from family & friends, learning to be a stay at home mom, etc… but I got out and joined various groups, met lots of people and now I actually enjoy being up here.
Q: What is the most important quality you look for in a friend?
A: Positive attitude!! Why waste your time hanging around with negative people! It will get you nowhere and bring you down too.
Q: How did you become a Trunk Keeper? Tell us your story.
A: I had just heard about Matilda Jane when I moved here although I didn’t know where to find it. I did some research online & decided to see if there was a trunk keeper in my area. They put me in contact with the fabulous, Nicole Hardin in Indianapolis who became my trunk keeper until she told me they were looking to hire in my area and convinced me to see if being a trunk keeper was something that I might be interested in and here I am!
Q: What do you love most about being a TK?
A: The clothes, the people, I love it all!
Q: If you could live in one article of clothing, what would that be?
A: My sandy pants! Most comfortable pants ever and I can wear with anything and anywhere…. I can even wear them to bed!
Q: If you could eliminate one bad habit you have, what would you get rid of?
A: Eating sweets! Now that I am getting older……..they are not my friends!
Q: In your free time, what is your favorite thing to do?
A: READ, although I just realized I liked it about 6 months ago and I’ve read more books in the past 6 months than I have in my whole life!
Q: Favorite blogs or websites?
A: Probably the same answer as everybody else…. Pintrest, Etsy, Facebook, etc…. I live on the internet! What did we do before the Internet??? Talk to each other? REALLY?!?! (I do miss those days…. Probably why I enjoy trunk shows)
Q: Can you share one of your favorite recipes?
A: Cabbage Beef Soup!! Yummmm. Not sure where this recipe actually came from. My family has been eating it for years! So thank you to whoever came up with it!
