Come'on who doesn't love a compliment. It makes your day, all day. That is what I want MJC to do, make the girl smile from ear to ear. I want her to love what she is wearing and be proud of how she looks. I want MJC to showcase the sweetness of the child. I try to keep the silhouettes simple for that reason, it's not about the fancy embroidery, it is about the darling girl wearing it. I want your little girl not to fight with you on what to wear, I want her to be comfortable and I want her to be happy! And that is it.

I really understand. I had my two boys first. They are now 17 and 15…wow! Amelia is 7 and we waited and waited for her. We had hoped she would come sooner; she “should” be 13, but she took her time getting here. I am having so much fun, and so is she, with dressing up or down. She loves certain pieces more…and will wear them for a week straight!
When my boys were little they would let me pick out their clothes for the day. They usually didn’t care, until Daniel-now 15, went through a preppy stage when he was 4 with ironed oxfords and bow ties. Between Gap and the departments stores I think I did a good job on the “cute” part. However, I was always looking over at the girls section and wishing there was an equivalent for the boys. Gap did ok, but thank goodness the boys weren’t into clothes. It was Hot Wheels, Matchbox, army, legos, Kinex….anything with 1000 parts -to keep them busy.
My little girl is fun to share my love of MJC and other clothes with. It’s like with the boys though, it’s that face with the little nose, the sparkling eyes, never ending questions that melts my heart. The clothes are just the ribbon on the package…but we do love ribbons!
This is a FANTASTIC idea. My husby actually came with me to art fair since we also brought both our girls, who at the time were 7 months and just turned 3. If we had an ellie for every mommy that stopped him inside 435 to tell him what a brave man he was for joining us that day, we’d never have to shop again….ok, who I am I kidding, yes we would! But he IS brave, and kind, and patient, and I would love for him to have something else more boy-friendly to do next year!!

I would love to see a ‘big boys’ line, like size 10 and up. My little boy LIVES in JCrew Crewcuts, because I want him to be comfortable and cute and nothing else out there right now does that!
Boys are so much fun…I have 3 of them a year apart, when they were little they were mommas boys and told me how pretty i am..now that they are teenagers it is fun to see what direction they are going in life and see their personalities develop…great idea to make something special for the boys too!! A family event sounds delightful
this day and age all the girls will want to go to the zombie tent (or at least I know my girl will – 5 yrs old – and she will pretend to be a vampire and get all the boy zombies – that is how they spend every recess at kindergarten)
I would love, love, love a boys line! After having Hanna first and having a blast shopping for clothes for her it was sort of a giant let down when I had Oliver and well… you know. Boring. There is a giant need for fashionable, adorable, boys clothing! (Baby and toddler boys too ya know.

Comfy, fun, super soft and mixy-matchy please! If you make it, they will LOVE it….they are always asking for “soft pants” and funky stripes and patterns and COLOR. Yea, they love Pokemon and Star Wars, but you can only have so much of that. (Plus if I see anymore wind pants, athletic sweats or graphic truck or scorpion tees I’ll want to weep.) HELP!
We all LOVE the comfort and the color of MJC! And who doesn’t love to mix and match across lines? I have two boys they love comfy, soft clothing…knit pants, knit hoodies, comfy tees. They love different patterns and to mix and match! But we are ALL (even them) sick of sport sweat pants, wind pants,and shirts with trucks and scorpion graphics…. and sweater vests! Sure,of course, we all like Pokemon and Star Wars, but we need your cheeky, fun spirit! Please! S.O.S. Funky, comfy and colorful please!

I would love a boys line!….I was invited to 3 mj trunk shows after I had my own and I actually turned down going to the last one because my son was feeling so left out after my daughter received box after box of new stuff…he was feeling so left out. I do order him a lot of stuff from mini boden that he loves but would much.rather support a US based business!

Funky oxford shirts? I love layering those on Miles! All year long too. Layering scarves? Jackets always rock too! A cute backpack? Kites? Capes? Hmmmmm…. : ) Those are my thoughts from my 4 year old!

My boys love Knuckleheads clothing – its the only clothes my 6 year old gets super excited about! I am the mom of three boys before I had my girl, and always walked longingly past the walls of girl stuff to get to the tiny corner of boy stuff. My vote would be for you to team up with Knuckleheads (which is a super cute family owned business based here in our town) and make their style of clothing (retro/hipsterish, amazingly wonderful in photos) with MJ colors. Collaboration could be a very cool thing!

Yes totally boys!! But not just cutesy stuff for younger boys – I need something to dress my 9 year old in, bc between the plain tshirts, jeans, windpants, and underarmour, Im just bored with his wardrobe. He gets jealous of all the fun MJ his 5 year old sister gets, and I wish I could find some great things to buy him! He adores his Mighty Acorn shirt I found him though and wears it all the time, and he has 2 ties and likes to match his sister.
I have to I totally agree. My son who is a twin always gets upset because his sister seems to have all the fun. It is hard because it seems he just is never too excited when it comes to cloths but does ask why mj doesn’t have cool stuff for him like his sister always gets in the mail.

I have 2 MJ lovin gals. And a 4.5 year old boy between them. I bought him the Mighty Acorn sweater last fall, and it is his most fav thing in his closet! He LITERALLY wore it once a wekk last fall/winter and will cry when it is dirty! It’s much loved inthis household and I would be thrilled to be able to purchase more for him!
This strikes such a chord with me! Collecting and wearing Matilda Jane has been such a fun, bonding experience for my girlie and I. I think my son would love the same opportunity. He goes crazy over his MA stuff (three shirts and one sweater…he keeps count) because I think it helps him feel like a part of it all. He is seven, though a tiny seven, so be sure to remember the bigger boys when you design. Oh, and he would adore kickball and magic tricks…and if you let him camp out he may never leave.

I have some super secret spots for ultra hip and adorable boy clothes. Perhaps you have shopped them….Zara, H & M, and Crew Cuts. My guys are into their clothes and have been known to sport a tie, suspenders, scarf, or mix patterns in interesting ways.
I think they are learning from their sister (and her MJ wardrobe) that dressing should be fun!

Oh this is the blog that I have been waiting for. I have a daughter that is 5 and is all MJ and my son is 8 and gets a little jelious when boxes come in the mail for Gretchen. Now do not get me wrong he has plenty of clothes that he has chosen and likes BUT the two MJ tshirts(one had a funeral in the garbage because of so much wear and holes) and one sweater that we have is what he wears all the time. He would be flying high as a kite if you had more clothes in the Mighty Acorns.

Cool boy clothes that coordinate in color with the girl’s line would be great!! But PLEASE keep them as comfy and easy to wear as the rest of your clothing. My my son can’t stand zippers/buttons, etc. This is so exciting!!

Well, I have to say, I think MJ does need more cool boy things! Let’s get those little boys involved. They may not appreciate it as much as some of the little girls, but us moms sure would! I only have one little girl as of now, you might remember her story as I sent it to you a while back…my little Maya Drew.;) Anyway, we are currently in the process of adopting a little boy from Ethiopia. I would just love to be able to involve him with MJ too…partly b/c the clothes are so cute, and partly b/c I just love everything you stand for and all that you do to give back. I think these are lessons we need to instill in our girls, and boys:).

I feel the same way too. I have 2 boys of my own (8 1/2 and 6). The only place I found that has clothes for them that they actually like and want to pick out at is Crazy 8 (an older kids version of The Children’s Place, luckily they are also cheap. It’s a skater/surfer wear store). You should give boys clothing a try!!!
Ya know, this makes me laugh because I just had this conversation with another mom today. I have three girls, so it’s not an issue I think about often, but anyway, she just booked her her first ever MJ party at the end of November, and said how bummed she was that she couldn’t find clothing like this for her boys. I don’t know the psychology of it all, but you are definitely onto something!
Great idea. Wow–going to 435 sounds like a dream. Speaking of, our little fella loves his Mighty Acorns shirts/jackets, ties and MJC straightees. Any more boys’ stuff coming? He is sizing out of the 6s. He complains that his twin sister and baby sister get to have all the MJC fun! Ha!

SO true!! I grew up in Michigan’s upper peninsula a stone’s throw from Lake Superior. Whenever I need to reset, I visit Marquette and Houghton/Hancock. Works every time. Here’s hoping it won’t be too long before you’re able to get away and rest/rebuild soon!!
The Great Lakes are one of the most beautiful things we have in the United States! They are crystal clear. Sam, you need to go to Mackinaw City and see how Lake MI and Lake Huron come together as you go to the UP. One other place…Sleeping Bear Dunes! The Dunes are amazing and the views of Lake MI are fantastic – voted one of the best in America.

sooo funny you say this. the first time i listened to a book on tape i heard that narrator’s voice for weeks. and sometimes i would even catch myself using his inflection and speech patterns. hilarious! glad i’m not the only one!!!
I do audible.com and it’s like a book club, but for audio books. It’s super easy to use and cheaper than iTunes. If you like Chelsea Handler, get “Are you There Vokda, It’s Me, Chelsea.” It’s vulgar, but she narrates it and I almost peed my pants listening to it. I just finished “Still Missing” by Chevy Stevens which was great. I’m now listening to “Then Came You” by Jennifer Weiner. Also try “Heart of the Matter” by Emily Giffin, “Every Last One of Them” by Anna Quindlen and “Look Again” by Lisa Scottoline. Happy listening!!!

They are the best, but sometimes when I am at the grocery store or driving I feel like a narrator is commenting on my life…the tired housewife looked up at the stoplight and completely forgot where she was headed. She made a mental note to try and get in bed earlier…Obviously my story will never be an audio book. It would all be that boring! LOL! Second the shopaholic series. TDF!

Highly recommend the shopoholic series on audiobooks. They are much much better than the movie and the woman who reads them has the best British accent and is a trip. I have spent many times sitting in my driveway at 4 am after driving home from work (I work nights) listening to the rest of the chapter laughing so hard! It’s not spiritual or life changing but it is a great audiobook for fun!

HAHAHA I totally get that! I always say that Mike Rowe is narrating my life. I watch so many shows that he narrates and …well he has such a sexy voice, it just gets stuck in my head. He makes my day sound so much more exciting too.
Even when I read a book myself I sometimes find I start to narrate my own life in a similar voice in my head. It is totally bizarre but I have done this my whole life! If you are looking for a good book I have to recommend The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It is an amazing story and ALL TRUE and makes you think in many many ways. I also recommend The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. This is a totally fun fantasical book that I think you would LOVE. Hope I am not out of line with the suggestions, but I get really excited about BOOKS.
LOL! Sometimes I think I hear someone say something….only to find out they did not. Also, I do forget about picking my kids up too! It’s quite an adjustment with the new school year!
We are day 4 into our “vacation” and I am still wondering when vacation will start. It is so hard to turn my brain off sometimes. Our days have been filled with a short trek to Petoskey 2x a day to take Joe to speech, then we do homework, grab lunch somewhere, and come back...

Hey Denise, Guess we will have to try Seaside since we are in love with Petoskey and Harbor Springs. If you have not been to Cupola Room in Harbor Springs (it is a bit hidden-in a house of the owners)it is to die for. They only serve breakfast (for a few hours each morning)and it is super pricey but I promise, you will not be thinking about work while loving every bit! Lemon glazed panacakes, fresh peach pancakes, everything is amazing!!! Enjoy your vacation!

Hi Denise and family – We love Northern MI. My husband is originally from Gaylord. We spend a lot of time in Petoskey and Harbor Springs. It is a slice of heaven…head to Zorn Beach after some ice cream..can’t get any better than that. Also, google Little Traverse Bay Conservancy if you don’t already know about it. It is a wonderful nonprofit that buys land in MI to keep it preserved.
I am so glad that you are able to have a little vacation. My son loves candy but is not a big doughnut fan, so that is a hard sale for my son. In fact I tried to get some the other day and he talked me out of it. I hope that you had better luck and got to enjoy a nice hot doughnut!

I adore Gypsy Blue…I love all the lines but I am still nuts over the tank dress (the one that had to have a maroon top- my mind escapes me as to the name.) That with the striped straightees. I cannot find it in a decent price for tween sizes. Was it made in a 10? I “need” it. LOL. Maybe a remake of that? Or a similar type outfit. We have run through 3 pair of the straightees between 2 kids. lol. Is it a maggie dress? Anyway I love the fabrics, the feel, magical. LOVE. but again…I don’t think there has been a collection yet that I haven’t loved…and yes the damsel was an awesome dress, would be a great remake as well with GB materials.

I used to live in MI. Loved it!!! Hey, if you need an idea for using up those extra fabrics, why don’t you make a little lap dress out of the Sabine fabric with little pockets out of that yellow with red floral(just like the pockets on the Hotline Maggie). That would be cute! Or, a Maggie style dress with Sabine fabric at the top and the yellow fabric on the bottom. Maybe some cute little green pockets:)

I always find that it takes at least 3-4 days to unwind before you start to feel like you are on vacation, and just when you’re in to the swing of things, it’s time to go home…
LOVE northern Michigan. Just returned from Mullett Lake a couple weeks ago and it once again delivered as lovely, magical, relaxing, organic. So many different emotions fill my husband and I as we spend time in a cottage that is nearly 100 year old with our little ones, family and friends.

I wish I had a great story, but I really don't. It is quite simple actually; one day a friend of mine said I should make clothing so I did.
I wish I could say I started because I could not find any cute clothes for my kids, but surely that is not a problem. I wish I could say I am a "designer", but I pretty much just consider myself a girl who can't stop her brain from spinning.
The one thing I do not have to wish for is a great family and group of friends. These guys are what makes Matilda Jane rock. They are loyal and well-loved. They are also very patient for putting up with me and the ventures I pursue, sometimes on a whim. Oh, I do love them all.
