Come'on who doesn't love a compliment. It makes your day, all day. That is what I want MJC to do, make the girl smile from ear to ear. I want her to love what she is wearing and be proud of how she looks. I want MJC to showcase the sweetness of the child. I try to keep the silhouettes simple for that reason, it's not about the fancy embroidery, it is about the darling girl wearing it. Reading the comment about Halloween reminded me of the Strawberry Shortcake costume that I made for my daughter. She also got a strawberry shortcake house that year for Christmas. So glad she still has happy memories of playing with it.
Aww! Lemon Meringue was MY fave growing up!!! I dressed up as her for Halloween one year & I have been wanting to have my girls be Strawberry Shorcake & Lemon Merigue but can’t find a cute costume for Lemon Meringue! :0(

I had to literally LOL after reading your post. I was just telling my son last week about how when I was a little girl they had a Strawberry Shortcake contest to win a room filled with Strawberry Shortcake accessories. I told him how every day I would pray and wish that I would win!! That entry form with the photo of the room was so worn after a few months from looking at it everyday. Unfortunately I did not win, but I’m sure I wasn’t the only little girl wishing upon that star!! AHH-hh childhood memories!! Thank you to whoever brought up the smurfs another real favorite. How about Cherry Merry Muffins??? I had those and I think I still have the complete set. It had all the girls that smelled like cupcakes and they all came with a recipe card. Their home was a kitchen. LOVE all the flash backs! Man toys were awesome “Back in the day” as my daughter calls it. LOL I am barely ordering on the 15th and wish on a lucky star I get a room key.

I still have all my strawberry shortcake stuff. I got them for Christmas one year – ALL OF THEM. The room that the presents were in SMELLED. My sisters kept trying to put them in the closet, but I would cry and mom made them leave them under the tree. I must say – all of the flavors together was not that plesant. HA!!

Got my order yesterday and I absolutely love it. As expected, my daughter is twirling and reveling in her new pretties. I got the mossy willow for me and love love love it. Where are those dark blue ruffles Sam is wearing in the picture? Coming soon I hope.
RE the room keys: Is it safe to say that all of us MJC addicts are in a metaphorical hotel together? I’m excited I actually got a key!
Denise, when the whole family is sleeping in the same bed (usually with the big dog, too) we call it “Packing Out” as in a wolf pack.
Skye’s pix are GORGE!!! Can I tell you that it makes me feel SO good that Skye and I have the same taste? That last outfit is EXACTLY how I put it together at my trunk show. Everyone thought I was so smart, but obviously not the only one!

Strawberry shortcake collection of dolls was great. Their smell reminds me of Strach n Sniff stickers my teachers would give me in grade school. Oh, to be young again. What a simple life when little things meant so much. Thanks for the glimpse back to the past. MJC rocks!
Received my Hammond bay order on Monday! Let me tell you my daughter LOVED everything! She HAD to put on the Raven skirt and dance Yourself Silly tank right then and there, even though there is snow outside, she wore it the rest of the night and gave me grief when it was time to get into her PJ’s. She always loves all her MJ, but this time she was Over the Moon with Excitement! Thank you! It makes mornings so much easier.
On a Strawberry Shortcake note, my daughter has the new ones and cannot stop playing with them. Retro is in. Rainbow Brite is making a comeback too.

On the retro front…my daughter is huge into the smurfs right now..made the mistake of getting her season 1 on dvd this christmas now she wants a smurfs bday party. I have searched the web from A-Z and no smurf party stuff. Lots of crazy people with websites showing their collectable smurf stuff…who are these people?? Its 1 thing to save childhood memories but to devote a website to your smurfs is another thing!! So im getting the creative jucies flowing so i can put on a smurfs bday party for my baby girl!!!

I loved it so much! I even had Strawberry Shortcake wallpaper in my room growing up. I love smelling the dolls. Do yours still have their yummy smell???
My mom still has all of our Strawberry Shortcake dolls in an old Strawberry Shortcake metal lunch box. They are all missing at least one shoe and/or accessory but the the box still has a nice aroma when you open it. I don’t like the new SS style…I love the classic. The grandkids seem to prefer the classic as well, over the new style.
All this talk about Strawberry Shortcake dolls brings me back to kindergarten. So I was that kid that had them in a shadow box hanging on her wall just above the bed. Apparently I was missing one and a girl on my bus had just the one I needed to complete my collection. So knowing that I had to pay for things that I wanted I went into my Dad’s secret money jar in his underwear drawer and pulled out a green bill to buy my very own Orange Blossom. The very next day the girl’s mom called my mom and said she could not accept $50.00 for this little figurine….hey I thought it was an even trade. Needless to say my Dad gave me a strong (yet gentle for a kindergartner) talkn to. Those were the days
The new Strawberry Shortcake has traded her spearmint tights for jeans…she and Apple Dumplin need a room key so they can switch back to the old school style! Otherwise, it’s Sour Grapes!!!!!

Took the family out yesterday to run some errands. Ashley (2 1/2) was proudly wearing her Raven Skirt, Dance Me Silly tank and Mossy Willow. I am not exaggerating when I say it took us at least 45 minutes longer to get through Costco than it would have because we were stopped by soooo many people commenting on her gorgeous clothes. I lost track at how many times I gave out your website and explained “trunk keepers”. Of course my little fashion model was more than happy to stop and twirl for everyone who was interested, and even some who weren’t. She literally would say to people passing us, “do you see my skirt?”. Anyway, thought this story was too cute not to share. Thanks Denise for continually designing and creating such gorgeous clothing!
I love that her little boy has long hair. My Jase has the same hair and he gets called a girl a lot. He’s 3 and won’t even let us talk about cutting it.

Denise – you continually out do yourself! This line is gorgeous!!!!!!! Our order just came today, key tag and all. My 2-1/2 year old got excited just seeing the box (yes, she already knows the MJ label ~ lol). Once opened, she immediately ripped off her clothes and started trying on all her new things, saying “it’s so beautiful”, over and over again. Thanks for adding some sunshine into our day in this otherwise, cold and gray Michigan winter.

Ok I don’t know about a name for your newsletter but I really want to know what took so long for you to finally get your house. I know real estate is different in areas of the us but what the heck was the hold up? Oh and I really really love the peasant top with the deliah ruffle fabric. So cute! That was my favorite outfit of all time the deliah ruffles and the vintage ellie halter to bad my little one had to go and get bigger so sad grew out of it
I like The Idea of calling the news letter “The Field & Folk”. It has a nice ring to it!

Gosh. I can’t believe that some of my favorite items are already sold out. Hopefully you all will have more sizes available. My wish list is huge. Can I just say that I looked at Skye Johansen’s site…WOW! She is absolutely amazing. I knew she had won the recent photography contest and is so very deserving. She makes me want to travel to Utah…which would be a far distance since I am in Mississippi. If only Skye and 435 were a little closer…:) I am currently trying to talk my husband into going to the Art Fair in June at 435…what a wonderful Anniversary gift Wondering if there will be another online Art Fair?? I attended my first Matilda Jane show in Murfreesboro, TN last season and immediately fell in love with your clothes. I actually have recently attempted to start my own clothing business with a girlfriend, on a much smaller level. I get invites to trunk shows all the time. Yours is the only show I went to where I felt there was now way I could duplicate the clothing. Also, the only time I bought anything. Your fabrics are so unique and your designs are so creative. I get compliments every time Lillie or I wear your pieces. What you have done and continue to do is so inspiring to me. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see Hammond Bay in person next week!!

I was also very disappointed to see that some of the items were already sold out or sold out in the size I needed after just the first day. Will there be more of these made? Oh, I sure hope so. I just loved the raven, the cookie, and the wendy and at this point I don’t know if my tk got my order in soon enough or not. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Super contest & great idea blogsters!! So…I am a newbie to Matilda Jane! Yes….I don’t know why I am JUST NOW discovering it, as my oldest is 6yrs old!!! If anyone can help answer some questions I’d appreciate it. A.) When is a new collection (such as Hammond Bay) available to purchase online via “Platinum Label”? B.) How do you get Matilda Jane via “Trunk Keeper” if the trunk keeper in your area never calls you back?!?! I have a few (ok..a ton) of wishlist items, but as I see, I may be too late to get them. I am so loving this contest. I just think that some people need that extra hug to get thru some of the tougher things in life. Oh and it doesn’t surprise me at all that this line is flying off the hangers. It’s completely AMAZING!
I just have to say I am very let down too. The Raven is part of the only outfit I was ordering. And its gone in the size I need. I didn’t order yesterday because I think it is insane for me to have to order something and pay full price and shipping when I am having a show days later. This will be my last MJ show until I can see that items will actually be available for the show. The point of having a show is for the perks. Otherwise I would just order on opening day and be done. MJ should really consider a backorder system. It would be way better than just totally letting people down. Now I’ve done work for MJ by advertising my show and my payoff was supposed to be my perks. So much for that.
i have to say i am soooooo disappointed i tried to place an order with a trunk keeper in my area for the items i want and the size i need in a few pieces are already sold out! how can that happen on the first day??? very sad!

denise — super sweet blog contest.. i just sent sam a submission… now for my request… please please please make more HB cookie tanks! i “hear” and i use that term loosely because i never know what info is true as i try not to rely on internet info that its almost all sold out in every size. i am hosting a show next weekend 2/26 in las vegas (where we don’t have a trunk keeper yet) and that is THE basic top of the entire collection.. i don’t know that i can sell the rest without it! especially in a place with 100+ degree temps coming very very soon! even if it is backordered, PLEASE consider having more made – it ties together everything and allowing those who didn’t have trunk shows day 1 sell it at the show… Thanks!!!!
What a sweet thing to do

You are always so generous. I want to nominate my daughter who is my best friend. She is 24 years old and was in a car accident. Everything seemed normal except for continuous headaches. Three months after the wreck she has a seizure and was unable to speak. Being a mother there is nothing worse than something to happen to your children. She was on FMLA while she was going thru therapy and when it was time to come back her employer did not keep her due to lack of work. She has a 4 year old daughter Anna who is precious. She moved back home and so with my youngest daughter, Sophie, 5 1/2 and Anna the house is anything but calm. If you could send Ashley and Anna a little something it would thrill her. I am unemployed at this time so it is hard for me to buy this fabulous clothing for everyone.
On an upnote Ashley has registered to go to school in the Spring. She is excited and is feeling better so she has a better outlook on life.

PS Just came back from a trunk show. I was in love. In person the colors were even better! I also love that we are able to mix and match more of the other lines.
This is a very good idea. When someone is having a cloudy day or even a cloudy year and they get an unexpected surprise it really brings joy to them as well as the whole household. It is addictive…when one person feels happy the others in the household feels happy and when one feels down the others feel down. A pretty package would bring such joy and knowing that someone listened to them means a whole lot more.
I love this style of contest- it gets people to be less “let me win pick me pick me’ and more- ‘this person really deserves something special and good to happent to THEM’

What a great chance to make someone’s day with a little Matilda Jane! I have a wonderful friend of just over 20 years. She has a sweet daughter that was born at 26 weeks, weighing in at 1lb 14 oz. She is now 7 years old and has many health issues. She can not speak, or eat on her own – she has a feeding tube. Although there are some challenges, she is a miracle straight from God. Stacey and Mark know how lucky they are to have a sweet little girl known as their princess, aka Jordan. Recently, Mark and Stacey had to relocate for work. Stacey is now away from her family and the doctors that have come to know everything about Jordan. So, she has started over with new friends and doctors and a new job as a parapro at her daughter’s school. I know that Matilda Jane would certainly make her smile!! Thank you for such a wonderful contest.
I have a friend who could use such a pick me up at this time in her and her family’s lives. she and her husband (and two sons) adopted a 4 yr old girl from China approx. 4 yrs ago. I know that little girl has brought them such joy and love, but has been a costly venture for them. She has been undergoing the process of fixing a cleft lip and palate, but since most of the cosmetic fixing is considered just that, insurance has been refusing to pay for the procedure. And then devastation hit for the little girl and her family beyond imagine just a few months ago. I will refrain from saying just what (due to privacy issues), but it is the worse thing imaginable to happen to such a young child. I can’t imagine myself how i would deal with the matter, but they manage to keep their spirits up and move on with life. And the little girl has shown amazing resilience and courage beyond words. They are truly people of God’s faith and deserving of getting back what they put forth. No one can take back what happened to that little girl, but I would hope that a little surprise in the mail could put a big grin on her adorable little face. Should I be selected as a winner, I will then go ahead and email with the name, size and address at that time. Thank you so much for putting a little sunshine in someone’s otherwise cloudy day (no matter who that deserving person/child may be)!!!

Well, it would have been easy to say, “Hmph, not a contest that we can win” and close the window on the computer, but I thought this would be a good time to talk to Caroline (4 years-old) about sharing and generosity—two things that you have so much of, Denise. We had a little chat about her friends and who might not have so many “things” (not that things are all that matters!!!!) and who maybe could use a bit of a pick-me-up. We settled on her friend, Lia, so I am nominating Lia’s *dad*, Chris .
When Lia was a baby, her mom died from cancer, so Lia’s just grown up with her sister, Ava, and her dad. I love the whole Hammond Bay line. I love the Butterbee lap dress ( I think my little girl would look like an angel in it). I also love the cookie tank top with either the Daphnie Stew ruffles or the Kimmie Straightee. The Pepper knot dress is also adorable and the Stephanie Big Ruffles. Gosh Denise everything is adorable. I have lots of favorite things. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those items. I am sure the comments will be abundant. Happy Valentine’s Day!

To the entire MJCREW…you have all outdone yourselves, once again. Hammond Bay is amazing and it makes me want to walk around listening/singing a little Jimmy Buffett all day for some reason. It is so bright, so cheery, so girly and oh so FUN.

I have to tell you my husband told me, he was so proud of me. Why because I was selling things on craigslist, halfbooks, etc. So I could pay for my MJ addiction myself Then told me he wishes I had the same drive to pay off my credit cards. (makes me smile)

I wish I had a great story, but I really don't. It is quite simple actually; one day a friend of mine said I should make clothing so I did.
I wish I could say I started because I could not find any cute clothes for my kids, but surely that is not a problem. I wish I could say I am a "designer", but I pretty much just consider myself a girl who can't stop her brain from spinning.
The one thing I do not have to wish for is a great family and group of friends. These guys are what makes Matilda Jane rock. They are loyal and well-loved. They are also very patient for putting up with me and the ventures I pursue, sometimes on a whim. Oh, I do love them all.
