More Africa Talk

Are you guys getting sick of hearing about how excited Kayla, Alicia, and I are to go to Africa?

The closer we get to May (which is pretty much just around the corner!) and the more plans we make the more it kicks in that we are actually going. We have all gotten our vaccines, I have sent off for my passport, we have been talking with Jessica of Noonday Collection, emailing Jennifer in Africa, and we are starting to put together our itinerary…which seems a little overwhelming right now.

When we were first asked if we wanted to go on this trip we thought we were only going for 10 days but after talking with Jennifer (our coordinator in Africa who is currently working with the women going through the sewing program) we are now looking at going for 14 days, TWO WHOLE WEEKS. I am obviously excited about the extended trip but also a little nervous for my Platinum girls, I hope they can manage without me.

Last night the three of us stayed to pack up your orders from the last upload. We also got to talk about the things we are excited about and the things that we are most nervous about. I am definitely most worried about the food…being the most picky vegetarian in the world (no joke, ask Carrie) I don’t know what I am going to eat! I plan on packing a lot of Pop-tarts and peanut butter crackers in my suitcase.

We may have also discussed that an β€œOur Trip” upload will be coming up very soon…

You may already know this, but Alicia and I LOVE elephants…we both have quite the collection and I have been secretly hoping that we spot one while we are there. And if we were crazy lucky would even get to ride one. Going to Africa has been a dream of mine forever and riding an elephant is also on my list of things to do. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed that my elephant dreams come true.

That’s all I have for now…I know, it was a little all over the place but thanks for reading!

Sending looots of love to the “Platinum girls” this morning: I can hardly wait for my own “Immaculee” to arrive …! Placed the order this morning … just hours after I left a comment about how oh so completely in love I was with the “green/purple” fabric and the trims! It also makes me feel oh so good knowing that I will be playing a role in enabling the women to acquire skills with which they can support themselves and their families.

Hello! I wanted to say that I have always wanted to visit Africa too. I used to take care of African elephants at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago, IL. They are amazingly intelligent creatures and I feel so blessed to have been able to work with and care for them. I hope your dreams come true and you will get the chance to see them in their natural habitat. I can guarantee you will be overwhelmed by their beauty and I can’t even imagine how cool it would be to see them roaming “free”. Have a wonderful and safe trip! πŸ™‚

Kiara,
As i have just recently come back from East Africa…I have to tell you it will Change you! Africa was the most Amazing place i have ever been! I would live there in another life! πŸ™‚

Elephants are my favorite as well-they have been for awhile-i’m a huge elephant advocate-whether it’s over here in the States and boycotting circuses or visiting the most amazing place in Kenya: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. And also staying aware of the horrible poaching going on over in Africa-so sad! πŸ™
Anyhow-i have a little collection of Elephants as well-you will see tons of wood carvings over there-make sure to grab a few for your collection. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing an Elephant Walk FREE in the Wild-nothing Better!!
Enjoy!
And gosh…love the idea that you may be buying some elephant material for new dresses! Now, if only i could score some platinum! πŸ™‚

Feel free to contact me anytime with questions on what to bring, what not to bring while traveling over there- You.Will.LOVE.It!

p.s. 2 weeks is good-i extended my trip from 10 days to 14 days and it was SOOO worth it! Good choice πŸ™‚
