A mama can hope right!😍

Just a couple thoughts…

I will be the first to say the last three years have been tough. Not only here at home office, but with each of you. We have had more heartbreak than one group of friends should have, all the while working through a transition period with a new group of people who came here to help spread Matilda Jane to more homes. For so many years, we lived in our little bubble. A bubble Denise built for us.  A bubble we loved and found purpose in. Heck, we found ourselves in that bubble and made lifelong friends. The hardest part is not that everything has changed, the hardest part is knowing that nothing will ever be what it was. And you know what? That is okay. Seriously, it is!!! You Know why??? It’s okay because we learned from the bubble to accept everyone as they are, even when you disagree, to love when you don’t understand, and to dance yourself silly. We did not learn to hold grudges and hate. We did not learn to judge others, and we certainly did not learn to give up.

Not sure why I just rambled and thought that I needed to give you a pep talk. Maybe because I actually needed one myself. I LOVE Matilda Jane. I love what it stands for. I love the girls I work with each day, and I LOVE that we get to make girls of all ages feel happy and beautiful. I love that we support our community, and I love that we do it together with you. That is why, after many, many late nights of working, I am reminded that there is purpose in what we do each day. There is purpose in the ever-changing personality of Matilda Jane, because when you think about it, she refuses to settle. She is trying to transform into her best self, a self we can all be proud of. A self that holds the values Denise instilled in her. A self that strives to be as creative as Sam and Denise, and a self that above all else will see beauty in the little things.

Truth is, I am happy to see some of the old habits come back. Word on Centennial Drive is that I will be blogging more, and I am super excited about that. Not that I will always be the one who gets to bring a lot of the exciting sneak peaks or contests, but I hope I can bring stories new and old, random thoughts, and a whole lot of LOVE and thankfulness for believing in Matilda Jane through the years.

Which means I also get to share about a WONDERFUL event coming up. An event that Denise and I started three years ago with our dear friend. The event is called Warm and Cozy, and it benefits the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center. I will never forget the first time Denise and I spoke about doing it. We wanted to mix our love of parties and giving back, and boy is Warm and Cozy just that. It’s an event that sounds just like you would think. Outdoor tents on a beautiful rustic farm. Lots of campfires to sit around while listening to live music. We will have homemade s’mores to roast, yummy food and drinks, and the liveliest raffle and live auction. Matilda Jane is donating some wonderful raffle items, such as a custom throw quilt made from vintage Matilda Jane fabric, and a Platinum Experience pass that will allow you time with our Platinum Designer Melissa to design a dress with your daughter for your keeping. This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as goodies are concerned. I really feel it will be the best year yet, and I would love to see some of you there.

it feels like the good old days of MJ reading your blog. I love reading about how you are giving back in such big ways. I have always wished I could do big things, but when I start to feel “less than” when I can’t, I am reminded of my favorite quote from the Starfish Story. A boy is throwing starfish into the ocean to save them, and is told that he can’t save them all. He replies, “I made a difference to that one.” When I think of that quote, I am reminded that even one small act can make a difference. Love ya!

Great post, and SO glad we will be hearing more from you Kayla! Many of us have spent years and years following Denise, Sam, and YOU – and we miss you all dearly.

Keeping with the theme of Mr Jobs, here is the one I will share. This has been one I have needed to cling to lately.

And another-just because.

See you soon,

One of my favs is an old school Jewel song that says, “please be careful with me – I’m sensitive and I’d like to stay that way”. Actually, the whole song is quite quotable, including, “maybe if we are surrounded in beauty, someday we will become what we see”, and “anyone can cause a conflict, it’s harder yet to disregard it”…oh heck…just go listen to the song before I quote the whole thing, lol! 🙂

Platinum Spreads a Little Love!

Three years ago, I signed onto this blog for the first time to introduce myself to all of you as the new girl in Platinum. I can’t believe it has been 3 years already.

(I am going to walk down memory lane for a bit before I get to the good stuff, I hope you don’t mind.)

This place formed me into the person I am today, and these women formed me into the person I want to be. If it was not for them, I would be so lost! Even though I cannot believe it has been 3 years, I also cannot believe it’s ONLY BEEN 3 YEARS. So much has changed in not only me, but the company. So many roller coasters, all the ups and downs, but definitely no regrets. Walking into MJC on my second day (notice I said second day, I’ll get to that later) I had no idea my life was going to evolve so much. I love this place, I love these people. They are my people, and my forever friends.

My first day at MJC was actually at a Women’s Build with Habitat For Humanity. What an awesome first day, huh? Once Denise offered me the position (after making me wait almost an entire week), she asked if I wanted to join a few of the girls for a day on a Habitat site, how could I say no??

I am so glad that was my first day, I got to work with Kiara and Kayla in our community. My first day was not about MJC, it was about what we could do, through MJC, for others.

It didn’t take long for me to learn the phrase “it’s not just clothes”. The clothes are what brought me here, but it was also the people. I loved “stalking” the Facebook page and reading the blog, I wanted to be a part of that world, a world of cute, fun, strong women who were changing OUR world.

Now, I will get to my point today. Platinum has always been about giving. From slipping surprises into orders to secretly reading comments on FB and IG to Spread the Love. Oh, how I love STL. I love reading your stories, learning about those you care about, and discovering your giving hearts.

Being able to give back is my favorite part about my job, sending along a little extra smile and letting someone know they are thought of goes a long way.

So here we go, Platinum Spread the Love is back! Well, I guess it has always been here, but I think a reminder needed to go out. It’s super simple. Nominate anyone who makes you smile and who you want to return that smile to! It can be a mother, your friend’s daughter, your wife, someone down on their luck, or a friend who would love a little surprise. Send your nominations to us at **DO NOT LEAVE IT IN THE COMMENT SECTION.** And in turn, once we read through all the nominees we will pick 1 or 2 a week. You MUST include address, names, ages, and sizes. If these are not included, your nomination will not be accepted. All packages are sent anonymous with a simple note from the Platinum Girls.

Can’t wait to read your nominees, so keep sending them our way whenever you feel the need. 😊

Melissa is fabulous designer, and we love Platinum so much! For the past year, we have purchased the most beautiful Matilda Jane items from the various Platinum loads. We love the surprises, and kindness, and generosity that Platinum has continued to show. Platinum still captures the spirit of Matilda Jane; the way that Matilda Jane has made us feel special, and beautiful. And Melissa has opened herself to the community of MJ lovers on Facebook, and left comments and answered our questions, and taken our suggestions…. the same way that Denise always did. She is a true gem, and embodies the heart of Matilda Jane. Thank you Melissa!! ; )

Stacey Carey - September 12, 2015 - 2:21 pm

I love this company… every.single.thing. Just absolute love; that is all I have for each and every single one of you…
