The Bread Box

I really like bread boxes. I do. Everytime I see a cute one, I snatch it up. I just got this one at Target.Β  They pretty much are the cutest thing in the kitchen. Okay, next to the the microwave, mixer and salt n’ pepper shakers! Anyways my point? I love bread boxes. Imagine my surprise the other day when I open it up to make toast for the boys and there’s no bread?Β  Yes, David, after all these years, has decided bread is best kept in the fridge. Hmm..I guess I had better go buy a cute fridge. What a great excuse.

We rushed around yesterday to get to the hockey game at Miami of Ohio on time only to drive 2 hours and turn around. That dang snow. But hey, today is a new day and we’ll give it another try. I love, love the snow, maybe even a bit more than breadboxes!!

My pal, Ali, has he best blog. I love living through her. She is way too cool, I wanna be that cool but for now I’m happy with a cool friend! Okay, speaking of blogs, I read too many. These are my staples:

  1. Dirty Picasso Ride
  2. Untamed Heart
  3. Point of View Lens
  4. Paperlili
  5. The Chronicles of Windy Ridge

There’s several more but Gabe will not stop asking to go outside and if I have to say “Just in a minute” one more time,I’m gonna freak. I hate that phrase and use it way too often.

Isabella's Mom - February 6, 2010 - 9:09 am

Sorry you didn’t make it last night, but I love the picture!! It isn’t your usual quality though… πŸ˜‰
A new frig? Wait a few weeks…
We’re off to the mother/daughter event at school, we’re painting pottery. Guess what the girl has in mind?
Have a good day in the snow, Joe is probably thrilled to get to snowboard. It’s still sunny here. It’s probably holding off until Friday so we will have to cancel our trip north.
Take care.

tree*head - February 6, 2010 - 9:55 am

OOo I love bread boxes too – but mine the generic wooden one…I’ll have to go to Tar -jay and pick one up like that!
Have fun with Joe in the snow and stay warm!

After all of the disappointment with the whole picture debacle thingy, I thought of experiences some of my close friends are enduring and that brought some important things to light-things that really matter, like -the pain and devastation in Haiti, people who cannot afford to pay their oil bill and have it turned off in the dead of winter, those who are out of work and worry how to provide for their family, those who have sick littles, and the news that my oldest son ,20, is heading to Afghanistan (he is detaching from me and hasn’t called me in weeks :().

I patiently wait for the pictures of the next new line knowing it will bring me a tinge of euphoria and happiness.

We are all human and all make mistakes-especially when we suffer from mommy brain and work nonstop to bring others joy. πŸ™‚

Now I’ll get off my soapbox and let you know that I think YOU”RE cool Denise πŸ™‚

tree*head - February 6, 2010 - 9:59 am

PS…Ali IS cool!

Lori Porten - February 6, 2010 - 11:42 am

Hey! I grew up in Oxford, OH! Home of Miami University in Ohio. When I was born we lived in a house across the street from the high school. Very small town to grow up in but very unique and it was great. My parents still live there and so I am back there a few times per year. It is one of those places where you can’t go anywhere without running into someone you know. I kind of like that. It’s one of those towns where there was a big revolt when the idea of tearing down the water tower in the middle of “uptown” was first mentioned, and everyone was saddened when Bruno’s Pizza burned down. Have a great time if you make it. I just talked to my parents and they have 8 inches and more coming! Diapolos is a good local restaurant. Oh, and I love the color of your bread box!

christine - February 6, 2010 - 12:32 pm

Oh the snow! Isn’t it pretty? Especially when it is sunny outside too and it just radiates! The bummer when it melts and I see my yucky brown yard that looks so sad. Then when the tulips pop back up. SPRING! Have a wonderful day:)

Monika - February 6, 2010 - 12:38 pm

I almost bought that breadbox in green the other day!! It’s so retro looking… so I love it, lol!

Michelle Huesgen - February 6, 2010 - 4:34 pm

Your on my list too baby…actually I think you are my list…lol
but you are much more interesting than i…for sure…

Jamie Hicks - February 6, 2010 - 8:25 pm

#5 is a staple here too, LOVE Jen, she just rocks so much!

We only have one bread box and it is a constant struggle to keep Aiden from using it as a garage, ehehehe.

BTW, you need to put Samm’s blog link back up! I miss that cutie!

Jodie Goodison - February 7, 2010 - 1:55 am

Too bad you didn’t make it.. better to be safe.:) Your pic is cute.

I love bread boxes..but have to show you where you can get an awesome fridge. I’m getting one! πŸ™‚ http://bigchillfridge.com/site/

And.. now that I’m back in Canada, my kids were making me nuts being cooped up and all.. two days ago we put up a trampoline in our basement. Either I’m nuts..or I win best mother of the year award! Currently we are the most popular neighbors. Request a picture and I shall send. lol

Jodie

Jamie Hicks - February 7, 2010 - 10:37 am

Not sure where my comment from last night went but yes, love # 5 and cute breadbox!

Jamie Hicks - February 7, 2010 - 10:38 am

OH weird, now I see it. Comments are being wonky! ahahaha

*TKJT* - February 7, 2010 - 12:40 pm

Oh I LOVE the bigchill website! Thanks so much Jodie for sharing!

shannon - February 7, 2010 - 5:33 pm

i’ve been on the hunt for a bread box for a couple of months now. and there’s been nothing that i really liked until now. thanks so much for sharing! i went to target today and snatched up the yellow one and then of course had to buy the matching paper towel holder & utensil holder. . . lol!

jenniV - February 7, 2010 - 8:26 pm

You are beyond cool my friend! Glad you finally made it to the game. Can’t wait to see pics.

The Girls of Hammond Bay

And there’s plenty more of us, I think we are 92 strong. And for some reason, if you look at everyone’s faces they seem to think it is hilarious that David was once the photographer and I was the model. Real funny, girls!! You gotta start somewhere.

And for those of you who have inquired, Hammond Bay will not be on the site until NEXT Wednesday. I think I typed that wrong in a comment earlier… I am telling you something is wrong with my brain. I use my ATM everyday. I went to use it Monday and totally could not remember the PIN. I completely forgot. I asked David yesterday, and then went to use it today, totally forgot. I use it everyday for months..how do I forget it all of a sudden? Ahh..the mind is on overflow.

Isabella's Mom - February 3, 2010 - 9:34 am

Beautiful women!! And look at Miss Sara, GORGEOUS!!!

Lisa M - February 3, 2010 - 9:53 am

Look at all those pretty trunk keepers! I think you are model material Denise!!

Incognito - February 3, 2010 - 10:34 am

Adorable pics!! Happy Birthday Miss Sara Brown!

JT - February 3, 2010 - 12:30 pm

I did that a few months ago. I could remember every other number in the world but not my PIN number. It went on for days. I would go in a store, check out and blank out. I was so flustered. I finally ended calling the bank and they mailed it to me. I felt so stupid when I opened it and realized what the number was. I honestly believe that my children eating my brain cells. I use to be very smart. LOL!

Emily - February 3, 2010 - 12:36 pm

You have the prettiest bunch of trunk keepers!!

Sundee - February 3, 2010 - 12:55 pm

Wow. Great pictures! Gorgeous ladies! I am starting to think one of the criteria for being a TK is being pretty! So excited for Hammond Bay. Here I thought I had enough MJ in our closet and then you surprise me again!

*TKJT* - February 3, 2010 - 1:11 pm

I’ll be the voice for many of us that are disappointed about the pics not going up today πŸ™ We all thought they would be up THIS Wednesday? We really like to plan ahead, talk about what we are all ordering, plan our finances, etc…

Skye, River, and Siennas mom - February 3, 2010 - 1:13 pm

OK, trying to contain my disappointment here. I REALLY wish you would reconsider posting Hammond Bay earlier. I mean, the invitations SAY you can view the entire collection online and you CANT. That makes us look so silly. That is the main reason I would like it to be posted. People want to see it, it helps with show attendance and with people calling in orders. Some people are out of pocket and have to give you their orders way in advance and they cant if its not posted online to view. Not to mention people need time to choose what they want and find ways to get more money b/c they want it all, lol. SO many of the expensive name brands launch photos of their lines months in advance for “pre-orders” and we are lucky to see the new MJC lines a few days in advance. Just doesn’y make any sense to me. I am certainly not trying to be outspoken or rude but this feeling is shared by MANY and I thought you should know. NOt to mention you had everyones hopes up to see the new line today just to disappoint us again. :O(

Momof4 - February 3, 2010 - 1:42 pm

I totally agree with the previous poster.

Kelly - February 3, 2010 - 1:47 pm

I agree with the previous post…I feel embarrassed to have to keep explaining to Newcomers attending my Trunk Show that “No…the stuff isnt on the website yet”

Melanie H. - February 3, 2010 - 2:28 pm

I agree, a gorgeous group of gals! TKs rock!

Jenna - February 3, 2010 - 2:37 pm

I was hoping to generate a lot of interest for my party on the 16th and told all my girlfriends to look today. So sad there are no pictures to share.

Lindsay - February 3, 2010 - 2:38 pm

I don’t want to be a pain either but EVERYONE thought the pics would be up today! My huge email invite said that they would and now everyone is confused. It totally helps to be able to pass out the invites and then say they can view the website and they can make plans to come to the trunk show! It does help people to plan finaces also. I just don’t understand what it would hurt for the pics to be up. It only gets us more excited about everything!!! Just my opinion…I heart MJ reguardless!

Denise - February 3, 2010 - 3:44 pm

Once again,I apologize. I am completely at fault but regardless it has always been agreement in Matilda Jane that the website goes up the same week. It’s a double edge sword and my mistake. Either I follow what I told them or follow a comment I sent. Though I do strongly feel it will not hurt anyones party fo I have already posted a ton pf pics. Think of it this way, come to my party and you’ll get to see EVEN more great stuff.

Mary - February 3, 2010 - 4:22 pm

I hate to sound cynical, but I’m not surprised. Anymore I hope for the best, but prepare myself for the larger possibility that it won’t come to fruition.

The TK’s look beautiful as always. They are really great ambassadors for MJC. Lovely ladies.

christine - February 3, 2010 - 4:46 pm

Oh I have totally forgotten my pin. I was once at a fantastic flea market and finding so many wonderful things. I had to run to an ATM and I kept typing in a different pin. The HORROR, it kept my card! Luckily I had some fantastic friends who helped me out but it put a major damper on other things I wanted to buy πŸ™‚

tree*head - February 3, 2010 - 5:01 pm

What a gorgeous group of ladies and Happy Belated Birthday Miss Sara!

I do have to agree with the others about the pics of Hammond Bay especially if one is having a show…first no sale, then no pics of the line-another disappointment. πŸ™

Dayna - February 3, 2010 - 6:59 pm

Everyone looks so beautiful! I am so proud of you and let me just say… you can’t always make everyone happy. People don’t have to agree or understand your decisions but respecting them is important. Lets try to remember the other 6 days of the week that you exceed everyone’s expectations even your own! Love you sister

lauren - February 3, 2010 - 8:08 pm

What a wonderful group of gals! I am so proud to be part of MJC! Remember that there are 92+ of us that see firsthand how hard you work to try and please everyone, even though it is not humanly possible. πŸ™‚ You and David have such a wonderful business because you have integrity, values and passion for what you do and who you do it for. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of such an amazing journey! Dang Girl, you are entitled to have your moments. I don’t know how you manage to have so much on your plate and still “Rock It” every season! Hammond Bay is worth the wait!!! xoxoxo

Amitha - February 3, 2010 - 11:30 pm

What a gorgeous group of ladies!! I have been to so MANY sales “meetings” in my life time and I have to say that the MJ conference looks amazing! The TKs are gorgeous and I love seeing Sarah, Sam and Lynette~ too pretty for words! Thanks Denise.

Em and Lil can’t wait for our show. They are your future trunk keepers~ they promote my trunk show more than I do (handing out invites to students, teachers, etc…)!! Go team RIEMAN!! Can’t wait to see more of HM!! Love~Us

workingnine2five - February 4, 2010 - 10:23 am

I’m sure that a few days will not make any difference in how awesome Hamond Bay is going to be. This stuff literally sells itself so no amount of time or extra finance planning is going to change that. We’ve all known that HB was coming this month that should be enough to get all of our ducks in a row. Super excited Denise and I think you are an amazing person who has a ton of things going on at the moment. Don’t sweat it….we all love you!!!!!

Erin Spencer - February 5, 2010 - 6:06 am

OMG… I cant believe some of these post, I think its absolutely ridiculous!! If your a newbie to MJC then fine but come on this is the way it has always been and either hop on and enjoy the ride or get off, but stop complaining on Denise’s blog. This should be a source or joy and relaxation for her and all the negativity…well if I were Denise…I wouldn’t bother! I LOVE all the SNEAK PREVIEWS I’ve seen and can’t wait to see the rest of the line!! Just to let you know Denise..I didn’t think HB would be up any sooner then some time next, so this is 1 long time customer that is NOT dissapointed at all!!!!!

Erin “the pankcake makers mom” Spencer

ps- one question…what is the wish list for on your site???? Just a list a things we cant afford and hope that the MJC fairy will deliver to our door?? LOL

Erin Spencer - February 5, 2010 - 6:15 am

oh my I’m not used to the new blog….I forgot you don’t have to sign your name on this one, but oh well I think I got my point across. Love you Denise and LOVE MJC!!

Amie *C* - February 5, 2010 - 8:10 am

What a gorgeous group of people. Don’t sweat it Denise, we all will live without pictures until next week. I am so excited for to see it all together. Love our new platinum purchases too!

Denise - February 5, 2010 - 10:06 am

Erin-
You are funny. It is a wish list so that if you are going to a show, you can simply just print your ideas of what you liked or what you wanted to look at in person.
But Oh, I love the MJC Fairy take on it…hmmm something to ponder.

Katherine Castillo - February 5, 2010 - 12:57 pm

Hi all you fellow M.J.fans.I may be having a pre-senior moment but I can’t seem to find confessions of a mj packer on the awesome new site. Did I miss something?

Monika - February 5, 2010 - 1:57 pm

Don’t stress, dear Denise! At least we got the pretty slideshow to drool over =). My girls are already bickering over who gets what. E doesn’t want G to have the same things… but both of them love the raven skirt. G yelled “I called it first!!!!!!”. It’s quiet amusing to watch those two fight over clothes, lol.

Tia - February 5, 2010 - 4:33 pm

ok people, no haters here! yes, Denise encourages input from us, but she is the boss and the originator of MJ! I think she knows what she is doing. She has made us highly anticipate each line and trunk shows have been successful. No worries! Enjoy her creativity that can’t be found anywhere else…

susie reed - February 5, 2010 - 6:08 pm

I think that I posted in 3 different places, but I wanted to let you know, Denise, how much I love the heart ruffles. I am a big fan of the Platinum line, and these certainly came to please! I don’t think any little girl could dress in anything sweeter than those ruffles, and the pink dottie top, or just a cute tee, for Valentine’s Day.

WhitleyKate's mom - February 6, 2010 - 7:21 am

I think that it’s so sad that many of the MJC fans are being so hard on Denise for not having the Hammond Bay on the website yet. I love MJC as well, and can’t wait to make my wish list. However, we need to put things in perspective. Yes, some of you are lucky enough to be having a trunk show (my trunk keeper is unavailable due to having twins. Congrats Nicole!). Yes, it would be nice for your attendees and invites to see the line beforehand. But really, think about all Denise has been through these past months. She has created a business that allows us to dress our darlings in such beautiful things! She has worked hard to do that for US, even when she has faced so much loss lately! I am excited to see that line on the 10th, but I’ll be at Riley Hospital with my 5 year old daughter, who is being tested for a congenital condition that my son has. That puts things into perspective for me. There is more in life to worry about than when the Hammond Bay collection will be available for viewing. Denise is an amazing woman who has been through so much, and has opened up and shared this with us. I’m sure your trunk shows will still be huge successes. The sneak peeks that we’ve had prove that! Think about that and look at the big picture before worrying about the little things. Be blessed, and may your trunk shows be a success!

My One and ONLY girl…

I love this girl shown in the above pic painting with me nearly 14 years ago.Β  (Did you know that I used to paint children’s furniture in the years before Matilda Jane?Β  Yep, it was sold under the name of ‘la.ti.da’….and some of those customers are still MJC customers….in fact, one of those customers is now an MJC Trunk Keeper!).Β  Anyway, that little girl has always been MY Sara Brown. Today she turned 16, and I knew that I totally dropped the ball…I forgot. I totally got wrapped up in the day’s events and forgot. But Sara: I love you. You are the most amazing 16 year old. The girl with the gentlest heart, sensitive soul and cutest giggle. I wish nothing more for you than you to remain true to yourself, forever proud of who you are and where you came from. I hope that you will not let others dampen your spirit and only help to spread some sunshine in their life. You are my sunshine. I adore you.

Miss Sara Brown has been to many art fairs with me, she is as much Matilda Jane as I am. She’s braved humid 90 degrees days unloading trailers and setting up tents. Heck, she may have even packed one of your orders. She’s a true Laker Hockey fan and a hotel critic. Hotel critic? Ya, well, say about 12 years ago I was doing an art fair and Sara was with me. We went to check into the hotel, and she says “I’m not staying in this dumpy junk hotel!” Oh, that girl I have taught her well.Β  David andΒ  I still use that phrase “dumpy junk” when we stay at a not-so-nice hotel.

I LOVE YOU SARA BROWN!

Taira - February 2, 2010 - 8:47 pm

Happy Birthday Sara!!! Ah, to be 16 again :). Can’t wait for the “road block” to be moved so I can get a look at Hammond Bay!!!

Holly's Mama - February 2, 2010 - 9:19 pm

How sweet!!!!! Everyone needs a special little girl to love. My nieces were my “girls” because I only had a son. I always told them they were my special girls. Now I have my very own daughter so I have three girls! I never thought I would ever have a daughter. My son and daughter are 14 years apart. I know YOUR Sara Brown will always be special in your heart. I wonder though if one day you will have a daughter too? πŸ™‚ Also, I never thought I would ever love any child as much as I loved my son – BOY WAS I WRONG! Children are the sweetest things in the world. I love watching them grow!

Skye, River, and Siennas mom - February 2, 2010 - 10:05 pm

Happy Birthday Sara! Thanks for sharing Denise, too sweet :O)
