A Portrait of an MJC Photo Shoot

Oh my thoughts are swimming today. But sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery or in my case, a change of Collections, to bring a whole slew of positive/happy/exciting feelings to my brain!! And heck, a ton of positive memories too! So take a stroll down memory lane with me for a moment…back to May 2013…location Mackinaw Island…

We started with the idea. “Hey, let’s do a low key photo shoot in MI with all the releases from Paint By Numbers!”

We emailed friends, family, and one of our favorite photographers Shannon Sewell to help us out. It took about 3 weeks of planning for this ‘low key’ shoot, but it was so worth it.

Of course we were going up north. Denise has a home in Good Hart and it was the perfect place to have everyone stay. Plus, have you been to Michigan? Goodness it’s gorgeous. Tim Allen is so right when he says “Pure Michigan.”

We had a team of 5 of us from MJC to help with the shoot, but also a handsome gentleman Jason too! Jason (showed above) is Denise’s cousin. They grew up together and hadn’t seen each other in basically 10 years. It was so cool to see them reconnect. Not to mention it was pretty rad meeting him in general. I love it when right off the bat someone is easy to talk to and bounce ideas off of. And look at Kayla? Doesn’t she pull off what I like to call the “June Cleaver” well? They were a pretty good looking fake couple if you ask me.

Most of the day on the Island was bright and cheery, but for about 10 minutes straight it poured and poured and poured. And we had not planned on this! You could never tell if you looked at Nina (above). She’s such a natural and made every shot look like a sunny day! And seriously, I can’t get over that outfit. I think I’ve actually posted this pic on the blog before? But I just love it. Loooove it.

This was one of the last shots from the shoot on the Island and I love it. They could all be sisters. (Plus the Darling Top with the Mercury Opals is to die for.) But guess what? The two on the right are! These are Michelle’s (I call her Michelle the Magnificent) daughters. Michelle was the lovely and helpful hair and makeup we had with us while we were there! Shannon and Michelle work together all the time, so we thought you can’t have one with the other right?

Last but not least, Kayla and Lauren (an awesome TK!!!) were the best Women’s models we could ask for. They’re beautiful, SUPER helpful, and both hilarious and sweet. I’m kinda used to working with Kayla on shoots, but Lauren was a new face for us! I think she did a fantastic job, don’t you? And that handsome fella up there, well Kayla and I spotted him from across the street and I could see it in her eyes…WE NEEDED TO KNOW HIS NAME. Well this stranger is Bert. Yep, like Bert and Ernie. He’s cuter because of it if you ask me. So after we finally got his name, we begged him for a photo! So worth making a fool of myself for it I think.

And that’s a sneak peek into an MJC Lifestyle Photo shoot. Always hard work, but always suuuuch a great time. Love our team, and love all the amazing talents and cuties we get to work with along the way!

Enjoy our 3rd Release “Portraits” today!! It has all my favorite pieces in it, so I hope you love them. Ha, like usual of course!!

Hi Sam – Well I knew it had to be my place where I spent my summers growing up and working there during the summers in college! This is one of the best places on Earth. Seriously…generation after generation of families who own these businesses have made this Island grow and continue to keep it a jewel for MI. For those of you who are looking for a trip in the Midwest think about the Island – it is a “truly Grand experience”. Great shoot…

LOVE that you went to Mackinaw Island-such a magical place. It was awesome to see it on the blog. We have so many family vacation memories there. I can’t wait to have our Michigan Art Education Association conference there in less than a month-all art teachers. 🙂

Some of our fondest memories are because of MJC photo shoots. They were really “friendship shoots” if you ask me. Always a good time. Always good peops. Always a blessing. Love you Sammy Pants. ;)xo
