Call me Crazy but…..

When I read Facebook, see the great notes at the office, feel the love at 435 Art Fair, read the emails that share such an emotion, and hang all the brightly colored pages and cards little girls send us, I wonder…..why can’t I find a line of clothing for my boys that evokes such passion.  And sometimes, I wonder this with just a little itty bit of jealousy.  Joe and Gabe never get excited when I buy them clothes.   Wait, I am wrong. Joe sometimes will get a pretty big smile if it is really, really cool. So what do you think it would take to solve this?  I mean how cool would it be to have a hip band, a fun game of  kickball, magic tricks and your little boy and their dad all hanging out cool while you and your little girl is over at 435 Art Fair Party doing all the girly stuff? David and the boys have so much fun together. It is so fun to watch. I gotta figure this out cuz personally, and yes, I am biased but I have 2 pretty cute and sweet boys that would love to be part of something cool for boys.

Yup, with that thought, I am going to go wake them both up and see what they think.  Ha..never..they can sleep and tomorrow we will discuss this.  And I know exactly what Joe will say, “Pokemon.”  Gabe? He’ll say, ….hmm I am not sure..something smart and to do with zombies.

But we gotta figure it out before this summer cuz I surely want to have your entire family at 435!  Oh, it would be so fun to decorate the boys tent. My mind is going crazy now. Pinterest here I come!

I LOVE your clothing line, and I wish I had a daughter ;(…. I am a mother of 4 amazing boys. Ages 10,8,6 and 2. PLEASE come up with some amazing boys clothes. I have some ideas too, that would be fun. Something “Old authentic” Sports themed shirts, Jackets. I hope to see some things come out of this amazing line =) Thank you for your
creativity. ( oh and if you can make some slim cut too, I have a Terrible time looking for my 10 year old. He is SUPER skinny. =)

Have a blessed week
Heather

I really understand. I had my two boys first. They are now 17 and 15…wow! Amelia is 7 and we waited and waited for her. We had hoped she would come sooner; she “should” be 13, but she took her time getting here. I am having so much fun, and so is she, with dressing up or down. She loves certain pieces more…and will wear them for a week straight!
When my boys were little they would let me pick out their clothes for the day. They usually didn’t care, until Daniel-now 15, went through a preppy stage when he was 4 with ironed oxfords and bow ties. Between Gap and the departments stores I think I did a good job on the “cute” part. However, I was always looking over at the girls section and wishing there was an equivalent for the boys. Gap did ok, but thank goodness the boys weren’t into clothes. It was Hot Wheels, Matchbox, army, legos, Kinex….anything with 1000 parts -to keep them busy.
My little girl is fun to share my love of MJC and other clothes with. It’s like with the boys though, it’s that face with the little nose, the sparkling eyes, never ending questions that melts my heart. The clothes are just the ribbon on the package…but we do love ribbons!

This is a FANTASTIC idea. My husby actually came with me to art fair since we also brought both our girls, who at the time were 7 months and just turned 3. If we had an ellie for every mommy that stopped him inside 435 to tell him what a brave man he was for joining us that day, we’d never have to shop again….ok, who I am I kidding, yes we would! But he IS brave, and kind, and patient, and I would love for him to have something else more boy-friendly to do next year!! 🙂

I would LOVE for MJ to create for the little guys. My son Jax loves superheros, maybe an MJ superhero.

Melissa L - October 22, 2011 - 2:27 pm

I would love to see a ‘big boys’ line, like size 10 and up. My little boy LIVES in JCrew Crewcuts, because I want him to be comfortable and cute and nothing else out there right now does that!

laurie shaw - October 22, 2011 - 11:11 am

Boys are so much fun…I have 3 of them a year apart, when they were little they were mommas boys and told me how pretty i am..now that they are teenagers it is fun to see what direction they are going in life and see their personalities develop…great idea to make something special for the boys too!! A family event sounds delightful

MJC fan - October 22, 2011 - 6:43 am

this day and age all the girls will want to go to the zombie tent (or at least I know my girl will – 5 yrs old – and she will pretend to be a vampire and get all the boy zombies – that is how they spend every recess at kindergarten)

Tamara - October 22, 2011 - 12:12 am

I would love, love, love a boys line! After having Hanna first and having a blast shopping for clothes for her it was sort of a giant let down when I had Oliver and well… you know. Boring. There is a giant need for fashionable, adorable, boys clothing! (Baby and toddler boys too ya know. ;))

Emily Wood - October 21, 2011 - 12:43 pm

I’ll just have my son bring his Pokemon cards and he and Joe will have a great time! Heck, my husband loves ’em too…..he can play AND watch the kids!

Paula - October 21, 2011 - 10:23 am

Comfy, fun, super soft and mixy-matchy please! If you make it, they will LOVE it….they are always asking for “soft pants” and funky stripes and patterns and COLOR. Yea, they love Pokemon and Star Wars, but you can only have so much of that. (Plus if I see anymore wind pants, athletic sweats or graphic truck or scorpion tees I’ll want to weep.) HELP!

Paula - October 21, 2011 - 10:19 am

We all LOVE the comfort and the color of MJC! And who doesn’t love to mix and match across lines? I have two boys they love comfy, soft clothing…knit pants, knit hoodies, comfy tees. They love different patterns and to mix and match! But we are ALL (even them) sick of sport sweat pants, wind pants, and shirts with trucks and scorpion graphics…. and sweater vests! Sure,of course, we all like Pokemon and Star Wars, but we need your cheeky, fun spirit! Please! S.O.S. Funky, comfy and colorful please!

Heather Becker - October 21, 2011 - 10:14 am

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! That being said I do kind of like sharing Art Fair with just my girls. But if my husband would come too then I could shop more:)

Cpuhl - October 21, 2011 - 9:00 am

That sounds perfect!! I’m planning on 2012 being the year I make it to 435 and I was hoping to do it as a family trip…so something for the boys would make the weekend amazing for all of us!

Emily - October 21, 2011 - 8:47 am

PLEASE!!! I love MJC tee’s for Z, they are a year round staple! Would love to have more!

Marla H. - October 21, 2011 - 8:46 am

That would be sweet! What a nice idea! How ’bout star wars “sword” fights with those toy light sabers. LOL! Maybe that will be to physical for Art Fair, though. We will have to make sure the Dad’s certainly have some fun, because I have only girls…. I am not sure I’ll be able to drag him the Art Fair. I can only wish! 🙂

Erin - October 21, 2011 - 8:11 am

Would love more Might Acorn stuff. Mini Boden is the only boy line that gets my little guy excited

Laura A. - October 21, 2011 - 7:34 am

I have two boys… they adore clothing that says “I’m tough, but not mean… I’m strong, but won’t pick a fight, unless you’re messing with my sister, of course!” They love dinosaurs and dragons and beetles and bugs and pockets and secret pockets to store trinkets and treasures! 🙂

I want clothes that hold up to wash after wash after wash after wash and don’t fall apart and lose pieces after one wear. CAN’T WAIT to see what you come up with!

Mama Urchin - October 21, 2011 - 5:52 am

I’ve loved the Mighty Acorn line, it would be great to see it expanded.

Celine - October 21, 2011 - 4:51 am

Yes please…whenever a MJC package arrives and I pull out the outfit for my daughter, my son always ask..”Is there some for me too?”..He is 7 years old and wants to be different.

Steph S. - October 21, 2011 - 4:31 am

or before summer! YIPPEEE!!! THIS is going to be fabulous! Have been begging for MJC for boys and my hubby…have as much Mighty acorns as we could track down from the bay, my little man is growing out of all of it 🙁 My husband did request no ‘matilda jane’ labels on the guy line…haha! so macho, right? but i do love the mighty acorns label that was on a pair of brown shorts i tracked down for my son. praying that thru MJC i will never have to go to the mall again for clothes shopping. dial up my tk, place the order and at our door it all arrives! can’t get any easier than that! i hope boys line/mens line will be part of your year round collection, not just art fair. and i hope its available thru tks because i can’t play the platinum game these days (boo! hoo!). thanks for putting a hope in this mommas heart for a boys collection. i cannot wait! xo

Jessica - October 21, 2011 - 4:06 am

A boys clothing line is Super exciting! There isn’t anything out there that is fun unique and super cool! So glad that you are inspired! Go for it! Please : )

sarah massey - October 21, 2011 - 3:45 am

I would love a boys line!….I was invited to 3 mj trunk shows after I had my own and I actually turned down going to the last one because my son was feeling so left out after my daughter received box after box of new stuff…he was feeling so left out. I do order him a lot of stuff from mini boden that he loves but would much.rather support a US based business!

abby - October 21, 2011 - 3:33 am

This is the best news yet!!! My son always has to settle for boring large chain brands! I would love for you to expand Mighty Acorns so that he has more fun, creative options like his sister does! !!!!

Gidget Fenwick - October 21, 2011 - 1:40 am

Great…I have 2 boys 10 and 6..and a princess who is 2.
Have you ever seen the movie…”The little princess”…wonderful movie. This is what
Your clothes remind me of….all girls are princesses and a a princess needs a prince. So bring on the boy stuff.:)

It's me, Betsy! - October 20, 2011 - 9:34 pm

Funky oxford shirts? I love layering those on Miles! All year long too. Layering scarves? Jackets always rock too! A cute backpack? Kites? Capes? Hmmmmm…. : ) Those are my thoughts from my 4 year old!

PS ALWAYS love your t shirts. The boys in our family wear theirs like crazy!

Courtney Wilson - October 20, 2011 - 9:23 pm

My boys love Knuckleheads clothing – its the only clothes my 6 year old gets super excited about! I am the mom of three boys before I had my girl, and always walked longingly past the walls of girl stuff to get to the tiny corner of boy stuff. My vote would be for you to team up with Knuckleheads (which is a super cute family owned business based here in our town) and make their style of clothing (retro/hipsterish, amazingly wonderful in photos) with MJ colors. Collaboration could be a very cool thing!
As for 435, the boys could all camp outside of 435 on Friday night so the moms wouldn’t have to 🙂

Sarah A - October 20, 2011 - 9:06 pm

Fabulous thought! I have twin boys and would LOVE something fun for them. Their mighty acorns jackets and tees are thread bare!
At my trunk show tonight and most nights I have 4 or 5 requests for boys things.
xoxo

Ashley - October 20, 2011 - 8:47 pm

Yes totally boys!! But not just cutesy stuff for younger boys – I need something to dress my 9 year old in, bc between the plain tshirts, jeans, windpants, and underarmour, Im just bored with his wardrobe. He gets jealous of all the fun MJ his 5 year old sister gets, and I wish I could find some great things to buy him! He adores his Mighty Acorn shirt I found him though and wears it all the time, and he has 2 ties and likes to match his sister.

Ana Esteves-Amaro - October 20, 2011 - 8:35 pm

I have to I totally agree. My son who is a twin always gets upset because his sister seems to have all the fun. It is hard because it seems he just is never too excited when it comes to cloths but does ask why mj doesn’t have cool stuff for him like his sister always gets in the mail.

becky - October 20, 2011 - 8:23 pm

Use the picture in this blog post for your inspiration. That is a perfectly cute, I mean “cool”, outfit for any lucky boy. All of it from the tshirt to the cool tab wasted pants to the button downs. Perfect. (And adorable.)YAY MJC!

Katie Lou Blanton - October 20, 2011 - 8:04 pm

I have 2 MJ lovin gals. And a 4.5 year old boy between them. I bought him the Mighty Acorn sweater last fall, and it is his most fav thing in his closet! He LITERALLY wore it once a wekk last fall/winter and will cry when it is dirty! It’s much loved inthis household and I would be thrilled to be able to purchase more for him!

Carrie Plummer - October 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

This strikes such a chord with me! Collecting and wearing Matilda Jane has been such a fun, bonding experience for my girlie and I. I think my son would love the same opportunity. He goes crazy over his MA stuff (three shirts and one sweater…he keeps count) because I think it helps him feel like a part of it all. He is seven, though a tiny seven, so be sure to remember the bigger boys when you design. 🙂 Oh, and he would adore kickball and magic tricks…and if you let him camp out he may never leave.

Lindsey - October 20, 2011 - 7:50 pm

Please include the boys! I have 3. I have one guy that would LOVE to hang with any guy that is into Pokeman, one that loves wood shop/fixing/anything tool related and another that is into cars.

I have some super secret spots for ultra hip and adorable boy clothes. Perhaps you have shopped them….Zara, H & M, and Crew Cuts. My guys are into their clothes and have been known to sport a tie, suspenders, scarf, or mix patterns in interesting ways.

I think they are learning from their sister (and her MJ wardrobe) that dressing should be fun!

Jamie - October 20, 2011 - 7:42 pm

PLEASE!!! In desperate need of clothing for my son that’s as awesome as my daughter’s MJ.

Sara Mildebrandt - October 20, 2011 - 7:42 pm

Oh this is the blog that I have been waiting for. I have a daughter that is 5 and is all MJ and my son is 8 and gets a little jelious when boxes come in the mail for Gretchen. Now do not get me wrong he has plenty of clothes that he has chosen and likes BUT the two MJ tshirts(one had a funeral in the garbage because of so much wear and holes) and one sweater that we have is what he wears all the time. He would be flying high as a kite if you had more clothes in the Mighty Acorns.

Denise - October 20, 2011 - 7:42 pm

Hallie- I just looked at your blog…HOLY CUTE BOYS….

Denise - October 20, 2011 - 7:40 pm

I agree…and I think Joe has taught me a lot here….Buttons are time consuming and hard and boys just wanna go without their mom helping them!

Staci - October 20, 2011 - 7:36 pm

Cool boy clothes that coordinate in color with the girl’s line would be great!! But PLEASE keep them as comfy and easy to wear as the rest of your clothing. My my son can’t stand zippers/buttons, etc. This is so exciting!!

Ida Norwood - October 20, 2011 - 7:29 pm

Your idea for a boys line is fantastic! There needs to be a line with cool boy sweaters, some jackets, cool blazers for special occasions, cool sweat suits, wow theres a million things you could make for boys! Go for it!

hallie garrett - October 20, 2011 - 7:23 pm

Yes yes yes, I would sooooo love for you to do it! and as a side note, it always amazes me how moms with only boys, as designers are so awesome and inspired, but not by their own! you so rock and can’t wait to see what you and the little boys come up with! mommy of 13 year old boy, 5 year old twin boys and a sweet 2 year old girl!

Melanie - October 20, 2011 - 7:22 pm

Oh.how.FUN that would be! A whole-family-deal at 435! Legos or Wipeout, that’s probably what my boys would say! But I am sure.SURE that you will think up, plan & execute something beyond fabulous! And that pic of Gabe is precious!

Kelly Gorney - October 20, 2011 - 7:21 pm

It would be SO GREAT to have more boy pieces!! My son LOVES his MA sweater/jacket and asks to wear it all the time. Every release he asks if there are more boy pieces. I would be in serious trouble. LOL!

Amy - October 20, 2011 - 7:09 pm

Well, I have to say, I think MJ does need more cool boy things! Let’s get those little boys involved. They may not appreciate it as much as some of the little girls, but us moms sure would! I only have one little girl as of now, you might remember her story as I sent it to you a while back…my little Maya Drew.;) Anyway, we are currently in the process of adopting a little boy from Ethiopia. I would just love to be able to involve him with MJ too…partly b/c the clothes are so cute, and partly b/c I just love everything you stand for and all that you do to give back. I think these are lessons we need to instill in our girls, and boys:).

Linsey - October 20, 2011 - 7:07 pm

Yes! Please, show the BOYS SOME LOVE! I also have 2 little boys & no girls. My closet is filled with amazing MJ & I could only imagine what your fabulous mind could conjure up for all the lil men out there!! 🙂

Cheryl - October 20, 2011 - 7:06 pm

I feel the same way too. I have 2 boys of my own (8 1/2 and 6). The only place I found that has clothes for them that they actually like and want to pick out at is Crazy 8 (an older kids version of The Children’s Place, luckily they are also cheap. It’s a skater/surfer wear store). You should give boys clothing a try!!! 🙂

Erin M (3) - October 20, 2011 - 7:04 pm

Ya know, this makes me laugh because I just had this conversation with another mom today. I have three girls, so it’s not an issue I think about often, but anyway, she just booked her her first ever MJ party at the end of November, and said how bummed she was that she couldn’t find clothing like this for her boys. I don’t know the psychology of it all, but you are definitely onto something!

Jennifer Campbell - October 20, 2011 - 7:01 pm

Great idea. Wow–going to 435 sounds like a dream. Speaking of, our little fella loves his Mighty Acorns shirts/jackets, ties and MJC straightees. Any more boys’ stuff coming? He is sizing out of the 6s. He complains that his twin sister and baby sister get to have all the MJC fun! Ha!
