Sneak Peek: April Collection Inspiration

We’re SO excited for the release of our April collection that we just couldn’t wait to show you! If we had to think of just one word to describe the collection, it’s FUN! We caught up with VP of Design, Madeline Katzel, to learn about the design process for April from how they choose the colors to the creation of the patterns. Plus, Madeline shared with us her personal favorites! Let’s get started!

MJC: What inspired you when designing the April collection?

MK: “One of my favorite things to do in the summer is go to outdoor festivals. Growing up on Long Island, there were so many throughout the season! Yummy treats and fun rides followed by trips to the beach is what summer is all about to me.”

MJC: We love that! How did this concept influence the colors you used?

MK: “Ice cream, boardwalks and ocean breeze inspired this palette and the overall feel of this release. We focused on some yummy colors — soft coral, mint green and light aqua. These colors remind us of where we want to be during April.”

MJC: So pretty! Tell us about the April prints. Do you have any favorites?

MK: “We had SO much fun designing prints for this season. Maggie created pinwheels and pandas floating with balloons to tell the story of summer festivals. Then, of course, our collection wouldn’t be complete without a gorgeous floral or two to tie it all together! One of my favorites is a throwback to House of Clouds. We recreated my favorite print from that Spring 2011 collection to complete our looks for April!”

MJC: Such a fun throwback! Which style features that print?

MK: “It’s my favorite dress this release — the You and Me Dress. The skirt features the throwback print and we paired it with a touch of rainbow stripe at the sleeve and a fun confetti dot bodice, making it the perfect summer dress!”

MJC: Let’s talk women’s! Tell us about the women’s collection for April.

MK: “Our goal when designing the women’s collection is to give mom comfortable, easy pieces that allow her to look and feel her best. While the girls styles are more whimsical, we know that mom prefers something more understated for herself. This is where coordinating patterns and colors come into play — these allow us to share inspiration between the lines, but make items that both mom and her little feel best in.”

MJC: Alright, one more question! Which women’s style is your favorite this release?

MK: “Definitely the Far Away Dress! I love a style that can pull double duty. This simple silhouette can be worn with flip flops for the beach or paired with wedge sandals for a lunch date!”

We’re making a splash this month with our first swimwear release of 2020! Our March Swim Collection features a mix of one-pieces, separates and cover-ups for the family. Yes — we even have styles for your little guy!

Our designers wanted to make this year’s swim collection better than ever, so they created it to fit into three color stories to appeal to any and every girl’s style! First, there’s the pretty tomato-red floral pattern offered in both girls and women’s. This pattern makes an appearance on two different girls styles — a one piece and a two piece — both with fun periwinkle polka dot accents. Next are the “sunbleached blues” — styles featuring shades of blue, aqua, orange and yellow. You can shop styles featuring these pretty hues for girls, boys, baby and tween. Last, but certainly not least, is our citrus print! Offered in both a rashguard-style one piece and a fun two-piece, these fruity styles are sure to be a hit with your gal!

We would not, could not stop at swimwear! We have cover-ups for girls, tween and women in super-soft, lightweight fabrics. There are three beach towels in adorable coordinating patterns, so her suit and towel can match! To top it off, we have a playful pair of flip flops featuring our citrus pattern and an adorable bow.
