Seriously,  I have never seen so many beautiful little girls. Why I do this to myself is beyond me.  I sat out on the back porch and went through all the entries. WOW. Seriously, this is a hard one. And guess what else? the 435 Contest is almost drawing to an end. If you have not voted, you must!! We have 5 entries that are fighting neck and neck for the top 3 spots. I think there’s like no more than 10 or so votes between each one.

K. well, I am off to upload the Jane Exclusives.  I love, love the Kanga Stew dress. Love it.  And okay, I am quite happy with the name.

You know, last night I fell asleep before 9pm. It was wonderful. Tomorrow the office is closed, and I keep thinking it is Saturday. One can only wish.

Emily - June 1, 2010 - 12:06 pm

Thanks for the Red Head Pearl, I just love red on all my children. You really just keep coming up with more cute stuff!! Which isn’t necessarily such a good thing for all us MJ addicts out there! It’s unbelievable how my mind works after seeing all your clothing, that BIG wishlist turns into a crazy juggling act and ya know what I’m sometimes even impressed with myself how I tend to pull it off. I can’t even imagine how tough it must be to pick 1 lil cutie, my goodness we all know how many BEAUTIFUL children are out there. Have a sunny and relaxing Memorial Day weekend with your family and friends!!

Day to the Oh - May 29, 2010 - 8:34 pm

Got myself 1 exclusive item, because unfortunately it’s my big girls that need stuff not my tiny! lol Every time I come home with more for her he says, “MORE for Kate, have you seen her closet?” I just laugh and say she’s my baby so too bad. But I agree with Debbie, I would have bought a bunch if there were a few tween sizes. After all the Hammond Bay releases, my little one is stocked! The Jane Exclusives are Fabulous though, so keep up the beautiful work!!!!!!

sashadvm - May 29, 2010 - 2:17 pm

when do we get to find out who won the 435 contest???
can’t wait to hear if one of my firends won!
love the exclusives!! too bad I can’t get my hands on any of them 🙁

Holly's Mama - May 28, 2010 - 8:48 pm

I was a sub teacher today at a high school and I was wearing my GB Bluebird tank dress. The teenagers told me they liked my dress! Oh, I have to tell you that Becky in your office is such a sweet lady! She rocks!!!

~love - May 28, 2010 - 10:50 am

i’m in love with all the exclusives. i’m actually just in love with everything. you’re doing a great job, denise.

we got my trunk show order last week & i’m so thankful. i try very hard not to care about material things, but MJC is so beautiful & fun that it is more than “just” clothes. they make us all spunkier, more creative and feel more beautiful.

also? our clayton left you a message on our blog today. =)

DKW - May 28, 2010 - 7:16 am

Love, love, love the kanga stew and vintage ballet!! Also loving the candy apple tank – just needs a pair of ruffles made out of the red pearl material!

Debbie - May 28, 2010 - 6:57 am

Janella - May 28, 2010 - 6:01 am

Darlene Burchfield - May 27, 2010 - 8:58 pm

I absolutley Love the new Jane exclusives! With four daughters… I am thinking way over my budget $$$, anyway, so glad you looked at the model photo entries I can’t wait for the results!:0) Keeping in mind that not everyone was or had a professional photographer, I think our TK did a great job:0)

Head over Heels for Hammond Bay - May 27, 2010 - 8:54 pm

The Jane Exclusives are super cute as always! The anticipation is killing me! I can’t wait to see the results!

jami - May 27, 2010 - 8:32 pm

Oh my Lawdy, the exclusives are BEutiful!!! Well done, AGAIN!!!
P.S. I have an ulcer. 🙂

Melanie H. - May 27, 2010 - 8:12 pm

Wow, all of those Jane exclusives are fantastic!!! Gorgeous!
I can’t imagine how in the world you are going to choose for the Cover Girl contest, you had to have gotten like a million beautiful photos!

Monika - May 27, 2010 - 8:06 pm

I just looked at the exclusives and golly, that’s some cute stuff!!! I love the Kanga Stew too…. would be fabulous with the disco ruffles. Too bad I won’t be able to order any. Hear me sing “you can’t always get what you wa-ant, you can’t always get what you wa-ant… but if you try sometimes you might find, you get what you neeeeeeed”. And yep, I got all I need =).

Night Shift

I’m almost back into the swing of things. It seems I have been neglecting my blog a ton lately, oh but there are so many other things that have received my full fledged (is this a word) attention. maybe it should be pledged? maybe I should go to sleep huh?.  Anyhow, for real, I am working and it seems I have been working the night shift lately. Wow.

So 435 is quickly approaching. If you have RSVP’d to Sara please re-email her your address so she can send you an invite. We’re going to be launching the official MJC Foundation Friday night, we are all pretty thrilled about it. I’d type it all out for you but it’s nearing 1 am and I am getting pretty sloppy on details so I must wait. It is too important to goof up.

And what about those entries for the 435 trip. Pretty amazing eh? And a huge thanks to David from me for uploading them all. It has been so fun to see the votes and comments. And as always, I think I can predict the winner and I am proven wrong. I am not sure what’s going on, I used to be right all the time,. I mean all the time. Lately I can’t nail a thing. I am working on it though, don’t give up hope….I totally thought I had LOST figured out. Nope, wrong.

Okay, I gotta go to bed cuz I am gonna end up looking pretty bad tomorrow and I can handle 2 days in a row of looking , ah, not too good but 3 may be pushing it. A shower may help. Isn’t it crazy how busy kids make things? Certainly beyond wonderful but my gosh,  I play beat the clock everyday and I never win.

Mandy - May 31, 2010 - 11:24 am

just wanted to say thanks for putting my little cowgirl-Emma up on the blog. I promise she really does have the most beautiful and precious smile. Her daddy just keeps catching the shots without them! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear the winners of both contest…I entered both my girls in the Cover Model one and the one I voted for in the other contest made it to the top 5! 🙂

Kim from Griffith - May 30, 2010 - 10:41 am

I sent my RSVP a few weeks ago but I haven’t received an invite. I will try it again.

JodiR - May 27, 2010 - 7:52 pm

Denise!!!!!! The Jane exclusives are BEYOND adorable. Wowza.

Bex - May 26, 2010 - 1:22 pm

Love that Grace!

Holly's Mama - May 26, 2010 - 10:31 am

I feel like I play “beat the clock” every day too and I never win. In fact I was thinking about that this morning. Bills to pay, my daughter needs clean underwear so do I sort through the laundry first or do I sort through the bills first? Both are important. Oh and I can’t forget about that cereal she spilled on the floor before she left for school! I keep telling myself to do my yoga breathing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Have a great day!

Monika - May 26, 2010 - 10:04 am

Wonderful to hear that the MJC Foundation is happening!!! You guys simply rock!! And yes, full fledged is absolutely correctly used in your sentence =). It means “entire” or “real”. Gosh, I sound like a smart butt, lol!! And thanks for putting G up on your blog =).

J.Diddy - May 26, 2010 - 9:05 am

edit that…the betsy bubble came and we are rockin it! 🙂

J.Diddy - May 26, 2010 - 8:26 am

i have come to realize that keeping up with a spray tan is just as hard as keeping up with a regular tan. and i dont even go dark. oh well…its nice to get tan in 10 second compared to hours and hours and days spend burning in the sun. plus my MIL did have melanoma last summer.

—-oh and while i was trying to fall asleep, i remember what else i was gonna say yesterday. that i cant wait for my daughter to get the bubble and wear it!! (i got talked into it at the trunk show… 😉 )

JodiR - May 26, 2010 - 8:07 am

Hey JDiddy……me too on the Spray Tan! LOL.

gran - May 26, 2010 - 5:05 am

Excited for all that the MJC Foundation plans will soon be finalized.

J.Diddy - May 25, 2010 - 10:47 pm

wish i could go this year! you def need to hold a drawing again for early shopping, etc. i know everyone was excited about that and u can raise some great $$ for the foundation! As for me, im waiting news on the model contest. i havent seen our pictures…but i have seen some on some blogs. umm, wow. all the girls are so cute, i cant even imagine picking. im working on my spray tan just in case the answer “because i love it” wins us the trip (way to be creative Aubree….)
Cant wait to see some sneak peeks of the 435 stuff. you have to post some of course! i was gonna say something else but i forget….

ps, monika is a rockstar, that pic is awesome!

tree*head - May 25, 2010 - 10:16 pm

What? 1st comment tonight? That never happens….can’t wait to see who wins…so many deserving entries!

The Top 14!

OK, we couldn’t pick just 10 or 12.  So here are the Top 14.  Check them out down below.  Each one is unique in its own way.  We looked at each and every entry…over 300 in all….and decided on these Final 14.  Some are very simple, some are quite elaborate.  But all of them struck a chord with us at 435.  They are listed in alphabetical order.

Once you’ve read/viewed the entries at the bottom of this post, head over to to vote for your favorites.  BUT DON’T GO VOTE UNTIL YOU’VE CHECKED THEM OUT BELOW.

Voting is simple.  When you arrive at, simply click on the word ‘vote’ near the upper right.  The Top 14 entries will then appear.  You cast your vote by adding your favorites to your shopping bag and then checking out.  As soon as you check out, your vote(s) will be cast.  Pretty neat, huh? JUST BE SURE YOU COMPLETELY CHECK OUT.

1.) You can add as many of your favorites to your bag that you want to.

2.) The site will allow you to add multiples of the same entry to your bag and even check out with them all, but only one vote for that entry will actually be tallied.  So in other words, don’t waste time adding your favorite entry 50 times to your bag, because only one of those votes will actually be tallied.

3.) Only one vote is allowed per IP address.  The site will allow you to “check out” multiple times from your IP address, but our filtering software throws out any additional “check outs” from your IP address.  So, in other words, the first time you check out is the only time that will actually count….so be sure to cast your votes carefully.

4.) Voting will run from Friday, May 21st through Friday, May 28th at approximately 11:59pm Eastern.

5.) The winner will be announced shortly thereafter.

The Top 14!

1.) Beautiful

2.) Compliments

3.) Dad

4.) Holly Hobby

5.) Life of a Girl

6.) Magnetic Poetry Kit

7.) Mallory and Kate

8.) McD’s

9.) Old Watches

10.) One Fabric at a Time

11.) Patchwork of Memories

12.) Polly Flinders

13.) Suitcase

14.) Too Purpley

Jennifer - May 28, 2010 - 7:48 pm

i really enjoyed reading and looking through all of the entries. “too purpley” was my very favorite, because making books for children to help ease transitions and choice-making is part of what i do with some of the children i work with. the book looks fabulous! i absolutely love it!

Chelle Belle - May 27, 2010 - 7:08 pm

They are all really good. I was touched by “Life of a girl.” I watched it with my 6-year old daughter and held on to her and just took her in. I don’t want her to grow up. I got very choked up. Nice job.

*TKJT* - May 27, 2010 - 8:57 am

Leah I was shocked your entry didn’t make it…so heartwarming! I LOVED it and would have SO voted for you 😉

Carol - May 26, 2010 - 9:43 am

What great entries. After viewing them all it made me want to buy even more of your clothes! A quick shout out to “COMPLIMENTS”, Isn’t that what we all want is for our girl to make a small difference and they can sure look cute doing it!

Janella - May 25, 2010 - 5:09 pm

Denise loved all the entries and can’t wait to see who wins!! I was thinking today how much I love the Hotline Phyllis dress that you did. It’s so sweet and simple yet sophisticated. I just wanted to share with you a little feedback that I’d love for you to do that style again in the future!! It’s truely a timeless little dress, Take care.

Erica - May 25, 2010 - 8:45 am

Gosh, these entries are incredible! How do you choose just one??!! Congrats & good luck to all the finalists…they were all so touching & creative!!

Carissa - May 24, 2010 - 7:46 pm

OMG….such creativity! Wow. Hats off to all these entries.. I have 3 girls and I must confess that some entries struck such a chord that it brought me to tears! Amazing….

Mandy - May 24, 2010 - 11:54 am

WOW, Denise…the love!!!
Those are wonderful!

Leah Godfredson - May 23, 2010 - 9:59 pm

Totally broken-hearted that my entry didn’t make it, but I did find one to love and cast my vote for it.
I can see what a difficult time you had narrowing it down-so much talent represented here! Thanks again for having the contest. It was a blast!

J.Diddy - May 23, 2010 - 8:35 pm

ahh, looks like im not gonna make it this year…boo! 🙁

Ashley - May 23, 2010 - 3:50 pm

Love them all…and Old Watches, I have a son named Avery and a daughter named Rya. I couldn’t believe it!

katie - May 23, 2010 - 1:33 pm

Oh they are all so good! I can see how you had a hard time.
I have to say that song is pretty dang creative!

shelley mccullers - May 22, 2010 - 12:22 pm

all of the entries are amazing… my entry was polly flinders- but is it bad that i can’t get “beautiful” out of my head!!!! i think it be my daughter and my new theme song:)

J.Diddy - May 22, 2010 - 10:11 am

great entries, unfortunately mine isnt up there! Maybe the girls can pull through on the model contest for me! Congrats to all the top 14!! and GL!

Day to the Oh - May 22, 2010 - 8:15 am

Okay. One. more. thing. hee-hee. We’ve been listening to “beautiful” over and over again and we just have to say that that litte girl’s grandpa’s voice is the perfect matching for MJ. His inflection, styling, the way he forms his words, the sound/tone of his voice and guitar all to us seem to epitomize MJ for some reason. We just love it!

Day to the Oh - May 22, 2010 - 7:20 am

p.s. I hope that all the finalists receive prize goodies for their AWESOME entries and the time, energy, and creativity they gave to this. They are all just so dang FABULOUS!!!

Day to the Oh - May 22, 2010 - 7:01 am

Oh, My. Goodness. Every single one of these is absolutely amazing!!! There is NO way these can be topped next year. You are going to have to come up with something else for sure! 😉 I usually have a very particular favorite, but this year I could have voted for them ALL!!! We will have the song beautiful in our heads all day. Good luck ladies.

Monika - May 22, 2010 - 12:08 am

Wow, they are all so special, it was so hard to vote!!! I have several favorites, but they are all touching in their own way! Good luck, ladies!

Holly's Mama - May 21, 2010 - 9:07 pm

I’ve got to vote for Holly Hobbie too because I have my own little Holly and also MJ does remind me of Holly Hobbie. I’ll vote for others too but that one is a sure thing for me. 🙂

Allison S - May 21, 2010 - 8:37 pm

I gotta vote for Holly Hobby, i’ve always thought of it when I think of MJ 🙂

Head over Heels for Hammond Bay - May 21, 2010 - 6:53 pm

Wow-they are all so different and unique in their own way-amazing job ladies!

vanessa diel - May 21, 2010 - 4:52 pm

I just feel so blessed to have made it in the top 14. My little girl whet shopping with me to find the perfect suitcase and it wasn’t easy to find one, but after some work we made it our special MJ suitcase. I am so excited for everyone who made it in the top 14. What an honor it is just to make it. Best of luck to everyone. Thanks to all you girls at 435. Keep doing what you do to continue to bless our little girls in this awesome clothing.

God Bless!

Cynthia Schauss - May 21, 2010 - 3:56 pm

That beautiful song is so amazing…way to go…that is by far my favorite and definately so CREATIVE. I LOVE IT! I think I would have loved it even without the pictures of the cute clothing…especially the part about the dad pulling his hair out. How funny!

WhitleyKate's mom - May 21, 2010 - 1:55 pm

It is so heartwarming to see how one company can touch so many lives! What an amazing group of entries. One even made me cry! Good luck to all of the finalists…you should all be proud!

B - May 21, 2010 - 12:08 pm

Great Job Ladies! They are all so unique! As a mom of 5 life is so filled with the must do’s that I value the moments I have to spend with my kids. Reading with my kids before bedtime is one of those moments, so I loved the book – Compliments … and better yet it has a great message of doing good!!

happymom - May 21, 2010 - 10:51 am

These are great. . .my favorite is the beautifully simple “Mallory and Kate.” Not as flashy as some of the others, but those girls’ drawings are really what MJ is all about. . .our daughters (and sons!)! I love that the children actually took a real role in the entry. And I love how those two girls are clearly happy when they wear (or draw!) their MJ clothes!

Precious Pixie Bell - May 21, 2010 - 10:45 am

What wonderfully creative and talented fans MJC has! I LOOOOOVVVVE Life of a Girl (the toad getting covered in the MJC cardigan is priceless, and really shows that the clothes are for the ANYTIME girl). The Patchwork Memories was also a favorite. What a cherished piece of artwork for a child and the reminder to make everyday a ‘special day’ and to cherish those you love.

[…] Well, you all know that I am a huge fan of Matilda Jane clothing and believe it rocks and it photographs so well.  Well, I entered a contest and am so honored that I made it in the top 14.  I am just praying that I win and can make a trip out to meet all the girls behind the Matilda Jane Clothing.  Please go to their website and check out all the amazing clothing.  It is not just for girls, they have some awesome adult clothing as well.  I am actually wearing a dress from Matilda Jane as I type here.  Go to the blog here  : […]

amyence - May 21, 2010 - 8:35 am

While we all waited in anticipation to see the top ten (14) revealed…Denise, you and the 435 crew have truly been hard at work to present these entries so beautifully and make the voting so slick – you guys are AMAZING!
I hope this isn’t out of place to ask, but I am hoping there is someone at 435 that can use and love the little quilt I sent – if no one there wants it, will you please donate it to someone who needs a little love. That would make my day! Thanks tons!

Emma's*Mommy - May 21, 2010 - 8:18 am

These are so clever! I wish I could of thought of anything half as good. gonna be tough!

jami - May 21, 2010 - 8:12 am

WOW!!! I just went through every last one of them and realize why it was so hard to choose. SO much thought and emotion went into ALL of them. Beautiful job, ladies and Congratulations! I love Patchwork of Memories and Dad. These 2 really tugged at me.

TracyF - May 21, 2010 - 8:07 am

Oh, you amazing, amazing ladies. Again, I am in awe of the creativity and imagination in these entries! Good luck to everyone ~ I have no idea how anyone could choose!

Beautifulclothing - May 21, 2010 - 7:35 am

Those entries are outstanding! I like them all, but since you have to pick a winner I have narrowed my favorites to two. Beautiful and Life of a Girl! The two songs are so pretty. I am glad I never mailed my entry in b/c these blow mine away! lol. Congrats to the top 14!

tree*head - May 21, 2010 - 7:11 am

Each one is so different! What a great job by all the entrants and a fab job picking such diverse entries – love it! Off to vote!!!

Janella - May 21, 2010 - 7:02 am

Denise, Oh how lucky you are to have the song BEAUTIFUL written about MJ clothing!! I found myself singing that song out loud making my coffee until my 4yr old Liam asked me to please stop. I can’t carry a tune but still have fun, what a bunch of great entries! Thanks for sharing!!

MJC fan - May 21, 2010 - 6:42 am

WOW! What great entries! My daughter came and danced beside the computer while the Beautiful song played and watched the video with me… she is 4 years old – turned and said- that is for Matilda Jane girls and smiled from ear to ear – to us – you took the cake! Hats off!

Jamie - May 21, 2010 - 6:30 am

WOW there are some incredible entries. Seeing these makes me realize how lame mine was ahaha, I was days away from popping a baby out but WOW! Congrats ladies, it’s going to be hard to vote!

Jennifer Fernandez - May 21, 2010 - 6:27 am

amyence - May 21, 2010 - 6:04 am
