5 Ways to Spend Your Snow Day

One of our favorite childhood memories is undoubtably is the feeling of your parents waking you up to tell you school is cancelled and you have a snow day. Snow days give us a sense of nostalgia to this day. We may not be making snowmen and igloos all day like we did as elementary schoolers, but we still feel that excitement just the same. Want to make the most of your snow days this winter? Here are a few of our favorite activities!

#1 Cuddle up for a movie marathon

After the chaos of the holidays, a relaxing snow day may be just what you need to reset for the new year. Put on your coziest jammies and cuddle up on the couch for an all-day movie marathon. You know what pairs perfectly with a movie day? Those leftover holiday treats!

#2 Kickstart your spring cleaning

Sometimes you really need to take advantage of an unexpected day at home. Kickstart your spring cleaning with a little reorganization! Pick a space, like your closet, and take everything out. Then only keep the things that you actually wear and get rid of everything else. You can donate your gently used clothing, all while tidying up your space. We call that a win/win!

#3 Whip up a new recipe

Can you think of anything more comforting than a hot bowl of soup on a cold, snowy day? We can’t either! Time to bring out your slow cooker (or maybe try out that new Instant Pot!) to whip up a new soup recipe. You’ll have plenty of leftovers for the rest of the week, plus you’ll get the added bonus of smelling the delicious soup cooking all day long!

#4 Craft with your kiddos

You know all of those DIY projects you have saved on your Pinterest board? Snow days are the perfect time to knock one or two of these out! Choose a project that your kiddos can get involved with and craft together. You’ll make something new for your home and regardless of how it turns out, you’ll make some memories along the way, too!

#5 Plan your next getaway

Although the chill of winter has spring feeling farther away than ever, it always has a way of sneaking up on us. Whether you’re thinking about a spring break trip or summer vacation, it’s never too early to start planning! Start researching locations, Airbnbs, flights and activities. You can set up flight notifications to alert you when prices drop and even score discounts on sites like Groupon! Once you choose your location, you’ll want to start mapping out your packing list!

Staying in our pjs all day, playing in the snow and sledding down the hill with all our neighbors then coming inside to drink hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Building blanket forts and watching movies while mom makes pot roast or soup for dinner.

It’s all around cozy!

3 Ways to Wear: Warm & Cozy Poncho

Let’s face it — when that first snow falls, you go straight into cozy mode. From now until the spring temperatures rise again, you want to be warm and cozy all the time. We are right there with you, which is why we designed the cutest cozy poncho for all of your winter adventures.

Our new Warm and Cozy Poncho features a pretty tri-colorblock of soft, wintery hues that are sure to go with anything in your closet. We feel so confident that you can pair this poncho with anything and everything that we’re starting by showing you three ways to wear this soft and cozy style.

Can you think of anything more comfortable than a knit jumpsuit that feels like your favorite sweatpants? Perhaps wrapping up in our super-soft poncho while wearing said jumpsuit? There it is! Our Resting Day Romper and the Warm and Cozy Poncho coordinate perfectly with the same pretty shade of mint green. This look is equally fitting for running some quick errands and Netflixing holiday movies all day long.

Although ponchos feel like a warm blanket wrapped around you, there is something quite chic about them! That’s great news for you — you can wear this cozy wrap anytime from work to weekend! Pair it over a simple tee with your favorite jeans for a polished look appropriate for casual Fridays and beyond. Slip into some riding boots and you’re good to go!

When we said this poncho feels like a warm blanket, we were totally serious. This poncho is large enough that it doubles as a cuddly blanket for your movie nights. Plus, the pretty colors and gorgeous texture will look like a statement piece in your living room!

Giving Back This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is by far one of our favorite holidays. We love spending time with our families, reflecting on the many reasons we’re grateful and of course, enjoying a delicious meal. It’s a wonderful day spent with those we love most, making our hearts feel fuller than ever.

The holiday season is one of giving and Matilda Jane is a company built on giving back. This month, we wanted to highlight the various organizations we’re supporting through Thankful Thursdays. Each Thursday in November we’ve shared a different organization we’re partnering with this holiday season. Some are local to us in Indiana, while others have a more national presence, but the one thing they all have in common is that with charitable donations, they can make a significant impact on the community.

Mighty Acorn Foundation

We kicked off November with a donation to the Mighty Acorn Foundation’s annual auction. Matilda Jane is a regular sponsor of the Mighty Acorn Foundation, as it was created by our founder, Denise DeMarchis. Mighty Acorn’s mission is to rescue children living in unimaginable conditions across the world. Inspired by a trip to Kenya, Denise and her husband David created Mighty Acorn to connect children living in the slums to an open-hearted family in the United States. Learn more about Mighty Acorn Foundation.

Riley Children’s Foundation

Riley Children’s Foundation is the primary fundraising organization for Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Riley Hospital is one of the best children’s hospitals in the nation and relies on generous donations to deliver family-centric care and life-saving pediatric research. We’re proud to have such an incredible organization right in our backyard in Indiana! Donate to Riley Children’s Foundation.

Toys for Tots

The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys for less fortunate children at Christmastime. Last year alone, Toys for Tots donated toys to seven million children in the United States. We are happy to be involved this year donating 1,000 toys for the holiday season. There are many ways you can get involved ranging from donating online to in person. Learn more and donate to Toys for Tots.

Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Warrior Project is an incredible organization focused on supporting veterans and active service members who have incurred a physical injury or mental illness from their time in the military. The WWP provides a community for warriors to recover in a supportive environment. Learn more about the Wounded Warrior Project.

This Thanksgiving, we’re excited to be partnering with Allen County Salvation Army to help feed local families. We’re sponsoring 50 families so they’ll have a full turkey dinner to enjoy on Thanksgiving.

From Matilda Jane family to yours, have a happy Thanksgiving!
