March is finally here (well, almost) and that means a new collection! March is one of our favorite months for a multitude of reasons. It’s that first glimmer of hope that spring is coming. The days become longer, and the sun makes a few more appearances than prior months. We start to see more green and maybe even some flowers! Spring break is around the corner with Easter on its coattails. There is so much to be excited about in March and our designers wanted to reflect that in this month’s release.
We spent some time with VP of Design, Madeline Katzel, to learn more about the design process and inspiration that brought March to life. Keep reading to sneak a peek at some of our March prints and find out her favorite styles this month!
There are 65 styles releasing in our March capsule (yes, SIXTY FIVE), so you can rest assured there is a little something for everyone in this release. Whether you’re shopping for family Easter styles or starting that spring break packing list, we have you covered. Let’s find out what Madeline is most excited for this month…
MJC: What are a few words that describe our March release?
MK: “Fruit, flowers and ice cream — conversational things that remind us of spring.”
MJC: How does the March release differ from February?
MK: “If February was dipping our toes into spring, March we’re in full-on spring mode! The sun is shining. We’re some place warm and happy for spring break.”
MJC: Where do you even begin when designing patterns for a month and season?
MK: “We designed these prints to match what she’s doing this time of year. We have a cute bunny print perfect for Easter. We know she’s definitely going to have ice cream when she’s on spring break vacation. Maybe she’s going to Florida, so we included some fun citrus fruit!”
MJC: This is the first swim release of the year! What can you tell us about this collection?
MK: “Yes! We actually have three separate stories within our swim collection to capture EVERY girl. All of the patterns are designed to coordinate so you can mix or match and it will all go together really well.”
MJC: Let’s chat more about Easter. How is this capsule different than previous years?
MK: “We know that pastel colors are typical for Easter and although we love them, we wanted to give them an extra boost of energy for spring for that special MJ twist. The palette is inspired by Easter egg hues, just amped up a bit to transition seamlessly throughout the season.”
MJC: What are some of your favorite styles from this release?
MK: “I LOVE the Turning Purple Dress for girls. It’s a very simple style with little flutter sleeves and lets the pattern really shine. That dress is everything for me! I love all of the women’s dresses because they coordinate so well with our girls styles, but look great on their own. My favorite would have to be the In Season Dress. It’s so cozy and almost feels like a sweatshirt, but looks fancy and special to wear dressed up!”
MJC: Before we go, can you tell us if there are any heritage styles making a reappearance this month?
MK: “Fans will be happy to see the Knot Dress back this month in a special print, perfect for Easter! This dress has been around since the very beginning and we’re excited to have her back in such a playful way.”
