Talkin bout My Girls

Ever since the day I first realized that the time would come for me to have a job and go to work every day, I always wondered about what kind of people I would work with. I vividly remember thinking, “I cannot wait to have work friends!” I’d heard everyone else’s stories (both good and bad) about their coworkers, and I was counting down the days until I would have stories of my own.

Fast forward about ten years, and here I am – with plenty of my own stories about my coworkers here in Platinum. And fortunately, they are all good! When I imagined what this would be like, I couldn’t have imagined these crazy, thoughtful, hilarious, and inspiring girls that I work with. When I’m getting stressed out or having a not perfect day, they always seem to know just the right thing to say to encourage me. If they don’t get my weekend update as soon as I walk in the door Monday morning, you can bet that by the end of the day they will have tracked me down to get the scoop on whatever awkward situations I managed to get myself into that weekend. They know to turn the radio up a little bit louder when the Pure Michigan commercials come on the radio because I LOVE listening to them (strange, I know). And they know to look out for my safety when I’m doing something like climbing a ladder or moving pallets, just because I am so accident-prone. I’m only half-kidding about that last one. I think it’s safe to say that these girls are more than just work friends, they ARE my friends.

People always say that there is just something special about Matilda Jane, something that makes it more than a company that sells the cutest kids clothes ever, and I have to believe that they are right. That it really is people that make Matilda Jane what it is. It’s my Platinum girls, it’s all of the people that work in 435 (I almost said girls, but we have actually have a couple of boys here now too!), it’s our incredible Trunk Keepers, and it’s our customers- who really are more than customers to us- who make MJC everything that it has grown to be. In the middle of all of the craziness of our moving to a new building at the same time as prepping for Art Fair, I just wanted to take a minute to remind myself of just how blessed I am to have all of these incredible people as a part of my life. And just think, if you are coming to Art Fair you will get to see first hand how awesome these people are!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and exciting (and maybe even relaxing) weekend with your family and friends!

love, desi

I LOVE the Pure Michigan commercials, too :). Tim Allen has the perfect voice for them.

It is so obvious that all of you girls (and I am sure the guys who are there now) count yourselves lucky to be a part of this great company. It is almost impossible to imagine all the “energy” that is being created around there with the move and the Art Fair. I’ll be thinking of all of you ………..more than I usually do…….this week. Looking forward to pictures and blogs about the Art Fair.

Hi Desi – Great post. I say this for many MJC fans…we love you guys right back! BTW, I am a Michigander and the Pure MI ads are narrated by Tim Allen…originally from Birmingham (but I bet you already knew that). One of the great Detroit Ad agencies did these spots!
