The Gift of Giving

Guess what guys……

I know it’s early but it is MY MOST FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR. Hands Down.

But first I gotta tell you a story. It’s always on my mind and I am certain it may be on yours too. At one time I thought, yes, back in the high school years, that no one could break my heart like those dang highschool boyfriends. (I’d say college too, but David and I have dated since my first day and he’s pretty dang awesome). So back to that heart break. Your world shattered. Aghhh…so many nights late on the phone to Renee or Bobby (my HS besties). This is totally gonna date me, but do you remember when you had to call the operator to “break a line”? And caller i.d. was the new gig in town.

Anyways, I gotta tell you…those high school boys have nothing on my Joe and Gabe. Did you ever imagine how much you could love your children. It is crazy. Did you ever imagine how your heart could break every time their’s seemed broken? Holy cats, PAINFUL.  Joe is growing up so much. He’s between a kid, a boy and a man. So I guess he’s a guy? I’m so nervous a girl is gonna break his heart. Oh my!

My point really is… hurts to see your kids sad. And when they smile that “HOLY SMOKES GLOWING SMILE” it melts your heart cuz you know their heart is smiling too. Love it.

For silly things like gifts under the tree, no hearts should be broken. And that’s why we do Spread the Love.

It’s your chance to nominate a friend, a neighbor, a teacher or your own kids. It’s not about not having a gift under the tree. It’s about “This family or child really makes me smile. They warm my heart and I want to put that ELEMENT OF SURPRISE SMILE on their face.” So think of a family or child or anyone that works hard, pours their heart out to others every day or maybe just had their heart ripped apart. And NOMINATE THEM at (see rules below..IMPORTANT RULES)

What I need you to do is email us at Tell us why your are nominating this family or child. The deal is, SPREAD THE LOVE IS ANONYMOUS. We don’t write your name anywhere.  If your nomination is chosen a box will arrive somewhere between the week before and week of Christmas. The box will have some perfectly picked out gifts and of course, an outfit or 2.

Now the IMPORTANT RULES that will help tremendously.

  1. Submit full name, ages and address of the family members you are nominating. One submission per email
  2. Let us know about your nomination. What’s the mom/and or dad like? Do they have a favorite???? and their size. What about the kids? What do they love? and their size.  Yes, you can guess on sizes. But do give us one. Your guess will be better than mine.
  3. Please send ALL INFORMATION IN ONE EMAIL. This is a super busy random act of kindness we do, and searching for details takes time away from wrapping the gifts.
  4. Please know, we try our best to answer emails about Spread the Love. But in truth… this is a side job for us and in order to get our daily jobs done at Matilda Jane we don’t have a ton of time. We send out over 100 Spread the Loves and have just 2-3 girls shopping, wrapping, writing notes and boxing it up then shipping.
  5. You will NOT be notified from MJC if your Spread the Love was chosen. It’s all about the joy of giving, all about a random act of kindness, so we take all names off and let it be an anonymous gift cuz they deserve it!

I think I covered it all. But I still have what they call “chemo brain” and I’m not up on my game so much these days. Please leave a comment if you have a question and I will respond in the comment section.  Thanks guys – Denise

Kelly Babcock - November 20, 2013 - 2:05 am

I want to nominate my princess and prince Naomi and Noah Babcock. Naomi because she was born with a major heart defect called Hypo Plastic Left Heart, from the beginning she defied all odds by living through three major open heart surgeries to re-wire her heart to run on just half of a heart! Then, she dares to have a dream to be a ballerina?!?! At the age of 7, she auditions and receives her first role in Indiana University’s production of The Nutcracker! She continues to dance in many more Nutcrackers and numerous other ballets and astound every doctor and surgeon she meets. She has performed for Indiana University many times, Miami City Ballet and Naples Ballet! She is well on her way towards her dream of becoming a professional ballerina and with only a half of heart, when I watch her dance I know I am watching a miracle! She is so happy and full of joy and makes everyone she meets smile and is a true inspiration that all things are possible! She is 12 yrs old now and this year she is dancing in The Miami City Ballet Nutcracker and Naples Ballet Nutcracker! She dances six days a week and started dancing on pointe this summer, she has exceeded all of the doctors wildest expectations!
I nominate her big brother, Noah because, at the age of 3yrs old when Naomi was born, he has always been there for her, cheering her on. When she isn’t feeling well or in the hospital, he is by her side, when she is doing great and performing…. He has never missed a show, not even an in studio demonstration. He is her silent cheerleader and support, always there for her no matter what. He is by far the best big brother a girl could ask for. A lot of time the attention is on Naomi because of what she is going through and he has never gotten jealous, he is amazing. He is generous and sweet natured and talented and so handsome. He is a self taught drummer in his youth band and he does martial arts, he is excellent at both! I nominate him because of the selfless sacrifices he has made throughout the years, he is a loving generous kind young man and I’m so proud of him!
Naomi loves MJ!! Especially shorties, skirts and knot tops ( like the knot dresses but, they are tops) sz.12 in all MJ
Noah he loves video games, I Tunes music and he wears sz. 30×32 pants and sz.large men’s tops
Thank you for considering my sweets!

Jessie Hamilton - November 19, 2013 - 11:34 pm

My wife loves the Matilda Jane Company. She has a very vintage style, and she loves to dress our daughter in Matilda Jane. My wife’s birthday recently passed, and she received a little money from relatives. She spent all of the money that she got on 3 MJ dresses for our one year old daughter since we don’t have much extra money, I thought it was so nice of her to spend the money on the dresses for our daughter instead of on herself, and she is STILL talking about how excited she is about the dresses. It would make my wife light up if she received a random gift of MJ clothing, and she deserves it because she is the first one to wake up, the last one to go to bed, and is always putting herself on the back burner. My wife wears medium and our daughter wears a 2t (she is a very tall one year old!)

Thank you and God bless

i love that you always do this. so special. thank you!

Sheila parsons - November 19, 2013 - 11:01 pm

My nominee is my daughter ion law, Kelly Parsons. She is a fantastic mother. Even when her mother, her favorite aunt and her only sister died (the latter by suicide) within 6 months of each other she was there for her children when I’m sure she would have preferred to crawl under the bed.

Marsha Mifsud - November 19, 2013 - 10:59 pm

You are amazing! Love your generous spirit!

Alyssa P. - November 19, 2013 - 10:58 pm

This is, hands down, my favorite program ever! My daughter and I have so much fun nominating people that it’s like we win, when they do!

We sent our nomination in with the first teaser, it was complete and I hope we didn’t jump too soon!

Keri Huggett - November 19, 2013 - 10:51 pm

I don’t have a question. I just wanted to tell you thank you. Thank you for caring so much about others. You are an amazing inspirational woman. If i can get my e mail account to work I will be nominating my son. Unfortunately I just lost my job due to medical reasons. There will be no tree but he is only two thank God he doesn’t understand yet. I didn’t come here to say that, I am getting off topic. Thank you for being you. I pray for you often and I hope you have an amazing Christmas with your family. You deserve it.

I had someone “spread the love” for me years ago. I was a MJC fan before that – but I’ve been a bigger MJC fan ever since. 🙂 I have a wonderful family in mind. A friend with 2 daughters who abruptly lost her husband recently. I’ll send an email with the deets! Thank you for all that you do.

Melissa - November 19, 2013 - 10:14 pm

I love every year when you guys do this, hearing about all the people you make so happy always makes my day! I nominated someone this year, I’m hoping that they get chosen, she’s a great lady. One thing though, I sent it in before the blog post, so I resent it, hope it doesn’t get thrown out for that!
