How could it be? How could a little side hobby become a business? Crazy.
As you know, or may not know, Platinum was pretty much created so I would stop driving Lynette nuts! And she may or may not admit to that. It’s the truth. When we started doing Trunk Shows I would design the season then be done for a few months. I got bored. I needed a hobby. A side job to design. At first I think I’d make a few random pieces and try to throw into the Trunk Show line-up but it wasn’t a great idea. We never had enough and I kinda created chaos to the organized line-up. I’m so good at chaos. Not on purpose. I just get BORED. So we chatted it through and decided to do a little website that sold the few miscellaneous pieces I designed.
Platinum had a cutting table and one shelf.
Platinum got it’s own room within 435 which turned into it’s own building at 433. Kiara was our first Platinum girl. Carrie was our second. When we moved Matilda Jane into the huge ginormous space at 4031, Platinum got it’s very own area and logo. Kiara left to join The Mighty Acorn Foundation. Carrie become Platinum Lead. I could go on and on about these girls. I come in at night, leave notes and stacks of fabrics. Everyday from 9 to 5 the Platinum girls make the stacks of fabric come to life. They do a pretty good job at it. They do an above SPLEN-TASTIC job at it. They do such a FANTABULOUSLY GINORMOUS job at it that they now have their very own building! They are now the girls of 6409 Highview Drive.
How could this be? A long time ago I used to paint. I had a great business. I did a ton of art fairs. I sold to lots of boutiques and department stores. I could not keep up with the demand. I could not delegate. I had to make a decision.
Learning how to ask for help was the best decision I ever made. Trusting others to do a great job was a leap I took. Being able to confidently delegate was tough. I did it. I asked for help, delegated and trusted others. A few of these “others” are my Platinum girls. It is SURREAL what happens when you share your dream with others. To watch “others” carry your dream and make it their own is nothing short of beautiful. In the end, I can’t explain how happy I am. How much joy I feel when I see what these girls do every day.
And to think it was just a hobby.
….and now I can’t wait to go see 6409 and make it beautiful for the Platinum girls. Ridiculously Cute. Yes, I have not even seen it yet. How could that be?
And the writing on the wall? Look up and you’ll know who you are. I think Lauren can help you out by sending you 4 free pieces from Spring 14 Collection One. She just need your name, address and size along with what pieces you’d like by February 2nd. Her email is Laurenw@matildajaneclothing.com
PS. I had to put Fixer Upper on the poster cuz I love that song. I hope you have all seen frozen by now.
