This is what it’s all about..

We all know that Matilda Jane is about more than beautiful clothing. We recently heard a wonderful story from Trunk Keeper Ashli Smith that we wanted to share with all of you. Here’s Ashli’s story…

I hosted a fundraiser trunk show during the recent blanket promo at my kids’ school – Columbia Academy in Columbia, TN. They are in the process of trying to raise nearly $60,000 to install an elevator in the Lower School, affectionately known as “Addy’s Elevator.”

Sweet first grader, Addy E., was in JrK when she was in a horrible car accident…an accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down. She is in a motorized wheelchair. While an elevator shaft was included when the Lower School was constructed, they did not include the elevator car and mechanisms required for a functioning elevator because they didn’t have the funding, or an immediate need. Well, now Addy needs this elevator.

For Addy to move between the first and second floors of her school, she has to go outside and follow the sidewalk around the building to the other level. But, she never makes the journey alone. In a show of solidarity, her teacher and entire class make the “detour” with her. They are an amazing group of kids!

The Lower School art teacher approached me about doing a trunk show to raise money for Addy’s Elevator….of course I said yes! It was during the blanket promo, and “Miss Misty” was SO excited about getting a blanket for Addy (a medication Addy takes to improve her circulation makes her very cold.). And the blanket could not have been more perfect…Addy makes everyone happy!

Today we gave Addy her blanket. She LOVED it, and we got to make HER happy! Here she is with the entire first grade and some older girls who helped us promote the show…and they rocked their ruffles proudly! Addy is truly an inspiration to those around her, and we want to make her life a little easier. We need to make Addy’s Elevator a reality!

AddysElevator copyAnyone wishing to join us in helping sweet Addy can donate via a GoFundMe account set up by the school. Every dollar helps!

This sounds like a project that some of the sports or other stars might be interested in helping.

Great to share this any time of year but especially during the Christmas season of love, sharing, giving. Praying that Addy gets the elevator soon.
