“Warm and Cozy”

Today is the second to last day of our Habitat build. It is hard to believe that it is almost over. I feel like it was just yesterday I was telling you ladies all about the first day. Two months later, the house is ready and the dedication on November 18th is here.  I so wish I was going to be here for that. (That’s another post for a different day)

You know us though, when one projects ends another one begins.

Which brings me to our next project. You have heard all of us state how  grateful we are to have this MJC family and friends many women only dream of.  Maybe that is why when Denise and I were approached about this next project, we knew we needed to help. The Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center  isn’t like other organizations we have helped in the past, so we are excited for the outcome. We know with your help the outcome is always greater so we are hoping you will join us as we spread the love to them.

To think that 400 victims were sexually assaulted last year just here in Fort Wayne alone is so sad.  Some of these victims have no where to go after the incident occurred. Their clothes are taken from them for evidence and they are only given a hospital gown to wear. Can you imagine? These women, children, and men deserve to feel the same love we have built this company around. To feel self worth again and know there are people who truly care and are there for them. That is what the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center does for these women, men and children. They have created a facility for these victims to come to. A place that is safe, a place they can relax at, and a place they can get cleaned up and start fresh.  An organization like this is a blessing and deserves a little help.  When Cheryl, who works for Party Apart, a  party planning company, ask us if we would be willing to donate we could not say “Yes” fast enough. She started an event called “Warm and Cozy.”  This is an event for women to come together in a friendly environment, they bring in goods such as bars of soap, shampoo and conditioner, Gas gift Cards and Wal-mart gift Cards. They share laughs, food and a belief for new beginnings. This was her way of contributing to this center who has made such a impact on many people who need it. If there are any of you within driving distance who would like to  attend this event, the event is being held at the Treatment Center on December 6th from 5:30-8:30pm.  RSVP by December 5th to Cheryl at 260-969-0999 or cheryl@APartApart.com.

For those of you who would still love to support this center, please send any toiletry or personal hygiene items to

Matilda Jane

435 E Brackenridge St.

Fort Wayne, IN 46802.

For monetary donations, please make checks out to “Forensic Nursing Specialties” and mail o the above address.

This will be the location of the “Warm and Cozy” event where you will get to tour the facility with Michelle and Sharon who run it. You will not want to miss this.

I will attend the event on December 6th on all of your behalf, along with other MJC gals and we hope to see some of you there. I know together there is nothing we can’t do. You have been by our side through it all and I know this is no exception.

XOXO

Kayla

It means so much that you are promoting awareness to sexual assault! In Indiana 1 in every 6 women and 1 in every 13 men have been victims. The SATC is a fantastic resource in our community. As a rape crisis hotline advocate, I know that when I refer someone to their care they will be treated with dignity and respect. This is a great opportunity to learn about other resources in Fort Wayne, such as self defense classes and programs to empower kids.

This is awesome Gals!! I have a ton of health & beauty items I was saving for Operation Christmas Child but I will see what I can fit in a flat rate box and ship them to you next week! I have several items stockpiled (from using coupons. Yep, I’m one of those crazy ladies!) I can’t wait to help others who are in need. I will be going through all my stuff over the weekend and sending in what I can. I don’t have any mesh bags to stuff them in unfortunately, they are all spoken for, for a painting project at my daughter’s preschool. Thanks for giving us the chance to participate!

Great cause! I was SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) and forensic nurse in colorado prior to moving to Chicagoland. We had little goodie bags for them with toiletries for them to use after showering and also a set of new sweats and undies to wear as we would keep their clothes for evidence. We had new donated blankets for each victim to cover up with during the exam and they kept it when they left. Lastly we had a new stuffed animal friend for all of the little kiddos we saw there. Great great cause. Thank you for all you are doing! It will be genuinely appreciated.

Kayla – please don’t post this comment. I just wanted to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for writing this…and all of you girls for helping in an area that often goes unnoticed. We have a similar center here in metro Detroit and I am more familiar with how incredible they are than I would like to be. We don’t have a ton to give right now but I will be sending a package your way of what we can in the immediate future, and more very soon. I am tearing in my coffee right now, mixed emotions, and I will leave it at that. You girls are AMAZING. I could not be more proud to support what you do in any way I ever can. wow…..
