What Christmas Means To Us

Happy Friday! We are so happy to see Friday finally here, not just because we are ready for the weekend, but tonight is the MJC Christmas Party!

It is probably the best MJC event, aside from Art Fair. Our Christmas spirit is in full swing, and gift giving is one of our favorite things….

So here we go…

How well do you think you know the Platinum Gals?

Each of us wrote what Christmas at MJC means to us…

Guess each one correctly and you win an extra special prize!

We would also love to hear some of your family traditions or just something that really gets you into the holiday spirit!

Hints: There are 7 Platinum Girls but only 5 stories (each color coded).

Well to begin, I absolutely LOVE Christmas. I have been driving all the Platinum Girls nuts with the consistent playing of Christmas music, it just makes me so happy! I just get overwhelmed with all the joy floating around, can’t help but get in the spirit.

Getting together with everyone after work hours is the best. We get all dressed up in our holiday best and just enjoy the time together. You get to be yourself, have fun, and talk to co-workers you don’t get to see on a daily basis. And of course meet their families! Last year was the MJC baby boom, so there will be lots of new cute faces this year 🙂

Denise and David really outdo themselves with turning their house into a winter wonderland. I am sure you have seen some of the photos on Instagram…that pink tree!! They also string lights all around their house to make it look like a gingerbread house and with all the snow we should be getting tonight it will definitely look like the North Pole…We might have to have a giant sleepover tonight…7 inches of snow…

We were really getting into the holiday spirit today in Platinum. We got a cute purple tree and decorated it. I decided it will stay up all year round, it is too cute.

I was just saying that today feels like Christmas Eve to me. I don’t exactly know why, maybe it is the anticipation of the MJC Christmas party. This is an event that we all look forward to. I remember the first one that I went to…..my boyfriend still talks about it. He said it was the most epic thing that he has ever seen….lol. Last year they had rice krispie shaped trees that were the size of my head….literally!

For me though it is all about being able to get a little dolled up and hanging out with the all the girls (and few boys now) outside of work. I think that this year I am going to try to take Denise’s pink tree home. Do you think that she will notice?

I love Christmas, but mostly because I love to give gifts. There is nothing better than finding the perfect present for someone and then seeing the look on their faces when they get to open it up. Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends. So many blessing to you and your family!

Some of the girls around here like to refer to me as ‘The Grinch’ because I really don’t like Christmas music and sometimes I can be a bit grumpy. I have another job and have to listen to Christmas music all the time there, so it gets a little old. I do love Christmas though! I love searching and searching for the perfect gifts for everyone.

I am excited about the Christmas party tonight! This will be my second one that I have attended, so I somewhat know what to expect. I have had a few uneasy dreams about it though.. one of which, I showed up in my Justin Bieber t-shirt! I promise I won’t do that though! Looking forward to having a nice night with some of my favorite girls though. Have a great weekend everyone!

Christmas is the culmination of everything Matilda Jane. Decorated trees, sweets, happy faces, bright lights, and joy. Tonight we as employees get to celebrate Denise’s favorite holiday and, boy, does she go all out! Last year was my first year for the Christmas party and I was blown away. The DeMarchis home is always decked out and there are always little kids running around- something that always reminds me of Christmas morning! I was surprised to see that this year we would still be doing it in their home given how the number of people that will be in attendance has nearly doubled! It should be cozy!

Tonight we are supposed to get about 7 inches of snow here in Indiana. Talk about bringing on the Christmas spirit! I am so excited! I plan to stop at the grocery and grab some eggs and peanut butter to make some cookies when I get home from the party. This is going to be such a fun night!

On a personal note, I am terribly excited to give gifts to everyone on my list. I was able to snag a few things during our Secret Santa Shopping today and I am so excited because MJ is matching everything that I spent and sending it to charity! Besides my shopping today, I have decided to give nearly everyone on my list vintage items. This was a decision that was made after 2.5 frustrating hours at the mall on Wednesday. I am SO excited about some of the finds! I hope that you have found some amazing things for all of your loved ones, too, and that you enjoy the giving spirit!!!

I’ve been bitten by the Christmas bug once again his year. This is my second Christmas on my own with me and my darling man. We went all out and made Christmas cards for the whole fam…I’ve never done that before! It’s such a great feeling giving something as simple as a piece of paper. In addition to the cards, we are taking up the responsibility of hosting our families annual Christmas Eve festivities at our own house. I’m so excited! This is also my first Christmas with the MJC family! I am beyond anticipating tonight’s events. On a side note, I can’t wait to just hunker down with a nice cup of coffee and good ‘ol Netflix for the rest of the weekend. Come at me snow!! I hope everyone has a safe and festive weekend!

PS No upload this weekend…but here are some sneak peeks 🙂

I wish I could post a picture of our sweet daughter (19 months) with her dad and a huge snowman he built for her… in Maine, a winter wonderland, with twinkly lights covered in snow. And then with her wrapped cozy in her new Matilda Jane Blanket… sitting by the tree. Christmas music is always playing, the tree is always on… it smells of fresh pine. We love, love Christmas in our house. Super cozy and full of love! (And fresh bread baking) 🙂

Love hearing what Christmas means to you. To me, it’s having my family together – literally! We celebrate Thanksgivingmas – the Friday after Thanksgiving is our Christmas Eve. My house is decorated – the stockings are hung – having my 5 kids and their families (11 grandchildren) under one roof SCREAMS “Happy Holidays”!! We all open our matching Christmas pj’s and it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Eat, drink, and be merry!!!!

I have no idea but this was just a guess.

Every Christmas growing up we would watch a movie on Christmas eve in our new pj’s that my mom would buy for us. They were usually the footed fleece ones that would make sparks on the blanket when you would rub your feet on it. We also EVERY Christmas morning make monkey bread. Growing up in a house that had four children and a single mom that worked full time and went to night school to try and get a better job, we always knew that even though there may not be much under the tree, waking up Christmas morning we knew that there was always going to monkey bread and we all helped make it. Even though my mom passed 8 years ago, I still keep that tradition alive in my family and my kids now 6 and 3 look forward every year just as I did when I was a kid.

Our family tradition is that in Christmas Eve we get together with my mom and she and the kids bake all sorts of LOVELY Christmas cookie (aka rocks) that we display proudly on the holiday table! Then we head home and put on brand new holiday pjs and read the Christmas story from the Bible. Then we read Twas the Night Before Christmas and tuck in for the night. I can’t wait!!!!

My favorite tradition is decorating the tree. It is so fun to remember where each ornament has come from and to see those that I have forgotten about!

I don’t even know where to begin on the story guesses but I just wanted to say “Happy Holidays” to all of you 🙂 Thank you for all you do throughout the year!

Gran - December 13, 2013 - 7:39 pm

Most of these are strictly a guess. There is only 1 that I feel sure about so don’t laugh please if I am way way off. Know you are having a wonderful time tonight!!!!
One of the things that I did with my children was make gingerbread houses, not the fancy Wilton kind. I assembled squares of graham crackers on pieces of cardboard. Then I made the royal icing and put out bowls of candy. We always had 6 or 7 around the table decorating them. Thrifty me bought the candy at the end of the season and put in the freezer until next year. This was a lot of fun for me too.
