Letting Us Help

This blog is going to be an easy blog thanks to a girl who emailed me 4 years ago. Libby Brady emailed me in November of 2008 sharing a gorgeous photo of her daughter. Still have the photo. A few years lady she told me of a mission trip she was going on. Matilda Jane helped. Below is a post about another mission trip she just took. Thanks Libby for letting us help. – Denise

from Libby Brady’s Blog….

The hugest. chunk. of my heart.

is in Kenya with these beautiful people.

It is crazy how now when I board the airplane to return to the United States after being in Africa, it feels like I am leaving home.

I already start feeling that knot in my stomach of homesickness.

I am already swallowing hard, letting the tears fall for the faces and people family I am leaving.

I immediately begin the countdown until I land on their soil again.

March. April. May.

That is all I have left to wait and prepare for my return to my friends in Kenya.

My husband and I are so blessed to be able to take students each summer on a missions trip to love on the people of Kenya

&

for the students to fall in love with serving others.

Part of the preparation for each trip is gathering supplies for us to take with us to give to the orphans & children & adults & hospitals.  The smiles that come to our friends faces when they see the supplies & gifts we bring is unexplainable.  Many times we gather items that are NEEDS & these people need these items to survive. to live.

When we get to take colorful clothes & toys that are extras for the children,

IT IS SO MUCH FUN!

A few years back, I emailed Denise, the owner of Matilda Jane Clothing and asked her if she could send some colorful headbands, something fun for the kids at the orphanages & hospitals to have.  She immediately replied to my email and said

“Certainly”!

Within just a few days we had boxes & boxes of clothing to take with us.

Blown away.

I couldn’t believe that this company cared this much for people in another country they had never met.

We packaged everything up & spread the beautiful colors & textures from

Matilda Jane Clothing

all over Kenya.  If we passed a group of children, we stopped & gave them all new outfits.

You should have seen those smiling, laughing faces

&

the splash of color we left them wearing!

Libby Brady Photography, Matilda Jane Clothing

Year after year we return & we see them wearing those same clothing,  some are ripped & torn.

They wear them every day!

Each year we ask for more clothing from Denise to take back & each year the boxes become more abundant.

The reaction is the same every time they are delivered to my home.

Tears.

I can see the other side of this delivery.  I can already see my little friends in their new outfits.  I can already see the smiles tugging at the corners of their mouths.  I can already hear the

“Asante Sana”

meaning “Thank you”.   I can already feel their arms being thrown around me.  I can already see them lining up to dance and hear them singing for 30 minutes

“Hallelujah, Hallelujah!”

letting us know just how excited and thankful they are.

Libby Brady Photography, Matilda Jane Clothing

So, to me,

Matilda Jane is not just an adorable clothing company.

It is a Gift.

To me.  To them.

Thank you, Denise & all of the Matilda Jane Team.

One place that we get to visit while we are in Kenya is

Naomi’s Village.

We don’t get to see the children receive the clothing here, we leave them an outfit or 2 for each of their orphaned children.

They save them for Christmas and Julie, the founder sends me pictures of them after they have opened their Christmas Present from Denise.

Look at these little adorable faces on Christmas Day at NV!

This last image is probably my favorite.

All of the children were leaving this specific gathering and I glanced up to see these sisters walking

hand in hand

down a little dusty trail toward their mud hut.

I couldn’t help but smile thinking about how blessed I am that these beautiful little children have changed my life.

Forever.

Matilda Jane wants to give one my readers a

$50 Gift Card

How awesome is that?!?

Their new line just came out and it is AMAZING!

All you have to do is both of these:

1. Share the link to my blog on your Facebook or Twitter page.

2. Leave a comment on this blog – tell me which of the above pictures is your favorite & make sure you leave your contact info.

I will be randomly drawing a winner on Monday & announcing it here on the blog!

Thank you for reading my heart today.

It is quite full.

~Libby

Best cry I’ve had in a long time. God bless you and these amazing women and children. I join them in singing Hallelujah!

KP - February 10, 2014 - 11:35 pm

This post had me smiling and crying at the same time. Absolutely amazing & so beautiful! We <3 MJC

Tara Gentry - February 10, 2014 - 8:41 pm

They are all BEAUTIFUL,but if I have to pick one it’s the little on Christmas morning. Her smile is gorgeous, you can tell how beautiful she feels inside and out!!!!!<3 so awesome MJ can do this….

Sandy - February 10, 2014 - 7:42 pm

This post is beautiful. I have no words.

Stephanie Casto - February 10, 2014 - 2:03 pm

4th picture down has a sweet little girl standing in her new MJ dress and dirty brown shoes. She’s not very sure about what’s happening and she’s a little timid looking. Maybe she’s never been on the receiving end of such beautiful clothes. I can just see her little eyes and ears processing all of the beauty that is happening:) Makes my heart feel full. I love that I’m supporting a company that has helped this sweet girl.

Christina Kroemer - February 10, 2014 - 1:10 pm

Such beautiful photographs! My favorite is the 5th down in the blog — with the girls in their vibrant, new firefly knot dresses (which was our first trunk show purchase ever) and leggings, dancing and exuding happiness. This image is so full of life. I can’t help but to feel happy with them!

Kristina Johnson - February 10, 2014 - 12:31 pm

I just love the picture with all the older girls in the matching blue willows .. It’s so perfect. It’s hard to pick one they are all gorgeous.

Natalie - February 10, 2014 - 10:03 am

I love the sisters one at the end. It reminds me that no matter where I may go in this life, at heart, I will always be close to my sister.

Andrea Graver - February 10, 2014 - 9:49 am

What a beautiful story! I love Africa. The groups I have traveled with to Ghana have given out handmade clothing to the precious children there, and it is priceless to see their faces! I know the quality of MJ and love buying for my little sweetie. What a generous company! Thank you, thank you for sharing this!

Jessica - February 10, 2014 - 7:35 am

The close up of the three beautiful girls is incredible. Their smiles sum up everything it means to feel beautiful on the inside. I love that you are taking the Gospel message to unreached people and also giving them a little something to feel beautiful on the outside as well. Stunning photographs.

Melanie D - February 10, 2014 - 1:34 am

I don’t need a card, I could want nothing more for my daughter or myself when I hear stories such as these. I am simply commenting because of the beautiful and wonderful blessing I know matilda jane is for these equally beautiful people!! This is awesome…love, love supporting matilda jane when I read things such as this!! Just so awesome!!!

Gran - February 9, 2014 - 6:01 pm

These pictures do say thousands of words. A young girl from our town went with the Bradys on one of the mission trips to Africa last year. She did a program for our circle group before she went and then came back and shared after the trip. It was a great time for her. When she was showing the slides I said those little girls are dressed in Matilda Jane!!! She told me that yes, Matilda Jane had sent lots and lots of clothes for the girls at the places they visited. There is no doubt that the girls love their clothes!

Carrie - February 9, 2014 - 2:45 am

what a lovely story and photos. Thank you for sharing.

Cy Souligne - February 8, 2014 - 9:59 am

I love all of these pictures! !!! It made me cry just looking at them. The last one of the girls holding hands skipping off together is probably my favorite, if I had to pic. There is not one thing more beautiful in this world than a girl who feels pretty! Every picture, of every one of these girls, exudes how pretty they feel.

Margaret Kessler - February 8, 2014 - 9:28 am

My two daughters adopted from China have many of the same items that these beautiful girls in Africa are wearing. It brought tears to my ears thinking of all these little girls all over the world linked by love and MJC. Cannot pick one photo or three or ten – they are all wonderful!

Noelle Staley - February 7, 2014 - 11:58 pm

I love MJ. These clothes from this company pack influential power. I have two boys and fell in love after I went to a friends trunkshow she was hosting. The clothes transformed me into loving how I looked and felt wearing the clothes. I truly felt both comfortable and better about myself. My favorite photo is the older children or young ladies dancing while wearing their MJ pieces. The images are similar to how I feel wearing the brand. I share the same warm, happy feeling wearing MJ that your photos captured.

Lara kisich - February 7, 2014 - 11:31 pm

Wonderful that Libby dared to ask. 🙂

Holly Midford - February 7, 2014 - 11:31 pm

Shared on my Facebook page. I love the last one where the kids are walking hand in hand from behind. It is precious and priceless. It shows that love is unselfish!

Melissa D - February 7, 2014 - 10:40 pm

This is amazing and definitely brought tears to my eyes. Those little ladies look so happy. Love finding another great reason to support MJ!!

Heather Sanculi - February 7, 2014 - 10:39 pm

Why I love mj so much. They are making these beautiful women and children so happy. And in the process I can teach my child and show her that love is a wonderful thing! Hats off to The Matilda Jane company. I am proud to wear their clothing myself and for my daughter.

Laura - February 7, 2014 - 9:38 pm

I love the picture of the sisters walking hand in hand 🙂 What a beautiful thing! Thanks for sharing and thanks to MJ for a generous heart!

Marta - February 7, 2014 - 9:34 pm

The third from the bottom is my favorite.

Tate - February 7, 2014 - 9:14 pm

Sadly to pick only one favorite picture for me is near to impossible. I love the smile of the girl wearing her Ethel (the way she wants it) I adore the hands in the hair picture, the little girl seemed to love playing with the blonde hair. Then I look at the ladies with all matching ruffles but the one & they all are so happy 🙂 as I look close the one picture with the sad eyes really grabbed at my heart strings, as I looked closer I saw another little one on the right also looking & both those children looked so hopeful, thankful and blessed. All the pictures are great. What a wonderful gift to give. Thank you for sharing!

Jennifer Robertson - February 7, 2014 - 8:39 pm

Every picture tells a story that touches my heart! How beautiful are these! I think the picture of them dancing and singing hallelujah is my favorite! God Bless you for doing this and God Bless Denise and Matilda Jane!

Kelly serda - February 7, 2014 - 7:20 pm

I love that pic of the girl holding the little girl. Their faces are priceless!

Olivia May - February 7, 2014 - 6:41 pm

A few years ago we donated my kids old costumes to an orphanage in Zambia. We were sent pictures of those little children in those costumes and they had the absolute biggest smiles on their faces. That was when my children truly “got it” and understood how they could make a small difference. Seeing all of these pictures reminds me so much of this. What a wonderful and generous thing Matilda Jane has done. They have brought a ray of sunshine to these families who have so little. This makes me proud to support such a company. I love all of these pictures but I have to say, the one with those grown women wearing the matching shrug/ruffles is just precious. Those women probably have nothing and give their all to their children. To see them all dressed up just melts my heart. Love.

Deborah Goldsmith Melita - February 7, 2014 - 6:26 pm

My heart is happy after reading this! God bless!

audra thornton - February 7, 2014 - 5:54 pm

RobinMc - February 7, 2014 - 3:27 pm

This is so beautiful! Tears flowing…absolutely beautiful. This makes me so proud to support such a compassionate and generous company. And, of course your clothes make my daughter even cuter than she already is…win/win 🙂 Keep it up MJ

Aubry Rambaud - February 7, 2014 - 2:28 pm

I’ve read this over a couple times now, tears each time. just wonderful, God is smiling!

Kari J - February 7, 2014 - 2:27 pm

Oh my goodness!! This is gorgeous… the photos, the story, your involvement, and MJ being so generous!! I love so many of them… but something draws me to the photo of the little girl playing with the hair of the photographer. Such a showing of trust and admiration!

Betsy - February 7, 2014 - 2:27 pm

All of those pictures make me smile, the joy that is radiating from the eyes and smiles, the pride of wearing something brand new and beautiful, I don’t know if I can pick a favorite because it’s their eyes, all of them, in every picture that I can’t stop thinking about.
But to pick one maybe the little girl getting her first knot dress tied. She Just doesn’t know yet how beautiful she already is.

Maria Alejandre - February 7, 2014 - 2:26 pm

I do believe that the donor receives more than the recipient, always! We always grow more, feel more, love more. I really like the picture of one of the girls styling one of the missionarie’s hair. She’s almost like and angel that will walk forever with her!

Sarah Anderson - February 7, 2014 - 1:21 pm

I was so blessed reading this blog. I’d love to see this in person some day! My favorite is the picture of the little girl with the huge smile and yellow tank!

Lindsay Jones - February 7, 2014 - 1:09 pm

My favorite is definitely the last picture you posted of the two girls walking home hand-in-hand. It is so precious!

Jena David - February 7, 2014 - 1:02 pm

How amazing. I have always been a big fan of MJ, but wow. Seeing their beautiful clothes on all of these kiddos and the smiles they bring to those beautiful faces, leaves me speechless. And your work… inspiring. My favorite image is the first from Naomi’s village, that smile! Thank you so much for sharing and for all that you do!

Traci - February 7, 2014 - 12:40 pm

My favorite picture is the group shot of all those beautiful girls in matching knot dresses, some with ruffles slung over their shoulders, and with their hands waving in the air! Makes me smile!

Sarah - February 7, 2014 - 12:20 pm

All of the pictures are so amazing it’s hard to choose a favorite, but I’d say the one where all the girls are dancing…you see some twirl of the dresses and happy faces. It just shows the joy a little MJ can bring.

Magen Henry - February 7, 2014 - 11:57 am

I would love to be able to minister in Africa one day! You are such a blessing and Denise has such a generous heart! The joy that you have brought these girls and women is so inspiring! I LOVE all the pictures!!! I think my favorite is the picture of the three girls from Naomi’s Village and they are all smiling so big!

Abby - February 7, 2014 - 11:54 am

This is an amazing post! I simply love the look of joy on all these precious girls’ faces! My favorite photo is the one of the teens/ladies in the cardigans! Love it

StateCHick - February 7, 2014 - 11:44 am

I love looking at these photos and seeing that once again, these clothes are fulfilling the company’s mission to make little girls happy and putting a smile on their faces! The older girls, dancing in their ruffles and neighborly stroll sweaters look amazing and confident and love how some of the girls have layered on as many pieces possible of MJ. 🙂 Heartwarming!

Maricell - February 7, 2014 - 11:42 am

Thank you for touching my heart. <3

Amy Salisbury - February 7, 2014 - 10:57 am

LOVE love love this blog post. How sweet!!! I can’t choose just one favorite because I have two! I LOVE the photo of the young girl braiding the photographer’s hair (which I think may be Libby?). I also really enjoyed seeing the photo of the 5 ladies dancing in the cardigans. That photo is magical and I just LOVE it!!

Lauren - February 7, 2014 - 10:34 am

The photo of the 2 sisters. Probably around 2 and 7 years old wearing chevron. They look naturally peaceful and pure. As the older one hips her baby sister they know the security they provide one another.

Bridgette L - February 7, 2014 - 10:32 am

What beautiful pictures! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Mandy - February 7, 2014 - 10:12 am

I am not posting to have a chance at a gift. I, like soooo many have left half my heart in Africa, mine in Swaziland. Which is its own ” country” within South Africa. I’ve seen the sweet babies light up for the smallest gift of food, clothing, socks- even something as simple as soap! I haven’t been back in 5 years…. I miss them so, and this lovely blog and the pictures make my heart melt. I am so thankful for what Matilda Jane does for the place that also has half my heart. Job well done! Continue to help others smile and you will always be blessed with a smile 🙂

Oh, that final picture burrowed deep into my heart and is stuck there. Their connection as sisters, and our connection to them through this beautiful blog and Matilda Jane’s generosity … beautiful.

Brandi - February 7, 2014 - 9:51 am

A breath of fresh air! Loved reading this. So many wonderful pictures. If I had to pick one it would be the line of 7 or so girls that look to be dancing. So fun. The two sisters definitely brings it home to me but I still keep going back to the absolute joy of the other. Great work and continued prayer for you all!

Becky - February 7, 2014 - 9:50 am

Your story is so beautiful. I love that you and your husband have such a missionary heart, so much like Denise and her family. I loved all of the pictures. They were all so vibrant and clear, it was almost as if I was seeing them in person. If I had to pick a favorite, it was the scene of the moms. Such joy and movement in that picture.

Ashley heck - February 7, 2014 - 9:46 am

I can’t even really pic a favorite but I did really start crying on the last picture. God bless you for doing this and bringing light and hope to them. <3

Anna whitehead - February 7, 2014 - 9:27 am

Love buying these amazing clothes but makes me love them even more seeing how they give back! The picture of the little girl getting her dress tied is precious ! She is so excited looking at the camera! Great job ladies!

Christine V - February 7, 2014 - 9:24 am

Now this is newsworthy! This is what should be on our local news every night! =) You ladies are simply amazing. <3

It is hard to choose a favorite image, but I absolutely love the one with the little girl in the cardigan braiding the blonde lady’s hair. I have seen many similar images to this; even though the villagers are the ones who need help and care, they go out of their way to make sure their visitors feel welcome and feel cared for. Both the villagers and visitors simply amaze me. You may feel like you are doing just a tiny thing for these villagers, but to them, it is huge, and vice versa. =)

Lindsay Dickerson - February 7, 2014 - 9:17 am

I love the one of all the girls clapping and dancing. If I get choosen please keep the MJ gift card and use it for something for yourself. It is so inspiring to see people like yourself and Denise do so much for others.

Sara Smith - February 7, 2014 - 9:17 am

I shared the link to the blog on my facebook page!

I love the picture of the 3 girls towards the bottom!! You can tell how happy they are and they look so adorable in the MJ clothes! What a wonderful, heartwarming story about MJ!!!

Erin Dickson - February 7, 2014 - 9:16 am

How beautiful that Matilda Jane is providing these sweet girls with beautful clothes. I can’t decide on a favorite pic. They are all so precious. It’s a toss up between the backwards Ethel and the women in their blue sweaters. These are 2 of my all time favorite pieces 🙂

Courtney Rasche - February 7, 2014 - 9:13 am

I was reading this in my class, waiting for my professor to begin lecture and I cant stop crying. This was exactly what I needed this cold Friday morning. It totally puts life into perspective for me and kind of slaps me in the face saying “Shut up, you don’t have problems”. My favorite picture is the one with all the beautiful girls wearing their colorful MJ dresses dancing and singing. It makes me look at myself and my daughter, that I am blessed enough to have a home for us to live in and to be able to buy her first couple of Matilda Jane dresses. This blog was so heart warming and made me want to travel myself and witness the love of these girls.

Kim meadows - February 7, 2014 - 9:10 am

I love the picture of the little girls dancing! I love that it shows all little girls around the world love to feel pretty and twirl! So sweet!

Tasha Matthews - February 7, 2014 - 9:07 am

I am not sharing or commenting for the $50. I am totally impressed of this artical. Everyone seems to say how MJ is expensive and so forth but now to know I deal with a company that has a good heart and cares for these sweet kids! Very touching. Thank u MJ! And btw my fav pic is the 1st lil girl at Cmas with the art in the park tank on. Much love!

Jessica - February 7, 2014 - 9:07 am

This brought tears to my eyes! Matilda Jane js such an amazing company! My favorite picture was of all the mothers lined up dancing. I shared on FB too

Hilary Gibbs - February 7, 2014 - 9:01 am

I love the last image of the two precious children walking hand in hand. Reminds me of the following:

A wise man once said- Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
-Harold R. McAlindon

Matilda Jane has left a trail of love!

Jay Conley - February 7, 2014 - 8:55 am

My favorite photo is the one of one of the missionaries tying the sash on one of the girl’s dresses. The beautiful smile on her face conveys a miracle, while the humble expression on the missionary’s face and her body language show their is a simple joy in putting one’s hand to work.

Kristen Jaimes - February 7, 2014 - 8:45 am

This is a beautiful , to see such amazing comparing giving back in this way . Touch my heart .

brittany - February 7, 2014 - 8:41 am

My favorite is the one with the 3 girls with the big smiles on their faces, but they are all great and they look so happy!

Carrie Rogers - February 7, 2014 - 8:29 am

All these photos are wonderful but my fav is the one of the older girls dancing in their leggings and knot dresses 🙂

Katelyn Veteto - February 7, 2014 - 8:22 am

That is amazing! I am in tears just knowing what I take for granted. All those pictures tell one big story that makes me proud to wear MJ!!
-Katelyn V

Emily - February 7, 2014 - 8:13 am

Tears. Many tears! How beautiful. How generous! I’ve seen MJ clothing line and hearing their generousity makes me want to buy the clothing even more! I love the dancing pictures but really love the one of the older women that all received something special! Grandmas mamas big sisters we always put our kids needs first and often times go without! So awesome to see their joy I in receiving something for themselves!! Good work MJ!!!!

Kristen Hill - February 7, 2014 - 8:13 am

I love the smiles on the faces of all the little ones, but my favorite is the older girls dancing in the sweaters. So nice that they are included too and get to have new pieces of clothing.

Missy J. - February 7, 2014 - 8:12 am

Can MJC and Denise get any cooler!?

casey ritchey - February 7, 2014 - 7:59 am

All of the pictures are so endearing. The young ladies have such a spirit and were visibly and genuinely appreciative of these clothes. It is truly amazing to be “a part of” such a wonderful company. The joy in the girl’s face with the Ethel on has to be my favorite. Thank you MJ on behalf of these and all MJ girls!

Sandy wyers - February 7, 2014 - 7:40 am

How blessed!!! I love the picture of the Tweens dancing.

Jay Conley - February 7, 2014 - 7:13 am

My favorite photo is the one of the missionaries tying the sash on the dress of one very happy girl. The large smile of the girl translates what could be thought of in her mind as a miracle, while the humble expression on the missionary’s face, as well as her body language conveys the simple joy of putting one’s hands to work.

Britta McClain - February 7, 2014 - 7:00 am

I love the picture of the little girl braiding the woman’s hair because the little girl feels beautiful in her new clothes and wanted to make the lady feel beautiful too by braiding her hair. If only she knew how beautiful she really was!!!

Michelle Gresham - February 7, 2014 - 6:55 am

Wow! What an amazing deed Libby and MJC! You both have such big hearts! I don’t know how I would be able to go over there and do that without bawling my eyes out. My favorite picture would have to be the one where everyone, mamas and kids, are singing and dancing in their new Matilda Jane. Despite their circumstances, it’s obvious they still manage to find joy and hope in their lives. It is a great reminder to us to focus on what is really important and to not get so caught up in all this trivial materialistic stuff. What an impact you have made ladies!

Julie Lane - February 7, 2014 - 6:55 am

My favorite picture is the last one with the sweet sisters walking away together. Thankful for your generosity and love!

Lauren - February 7, 2014 - 6:49 am

The picture of the little girl in the Ethel exudes happiness. All if the pictures are so sweet, but that was my favorite. Thank YOU for helping!

Jessica Landrigan - February 7, 2014 - 6:48 am

The picture of the little girl in the purple shirt made my heart burst… the pure joy in her face is too much for words! – I can just see the energy and excitement to run and show off her beautiful new clothes!! (I know how she feels…I am the same way, with the same face, when my MJC package comes in the mail!)

Carmen Elijah - February 7, 2014 - 6:46 am

This post took me back to my childhood, I grew up in a house for girls, that where orphanges, That was not my case tho, My mom had to work to support my 4 brothers and I and, me being the youngest and only girl it was the only option, so I know how it feels when a good hart give you something, you feel important and that you care to somebody, thank you Denisse, and thank you to all this people that make these mission trips to brighten this girls hearts.

candice hilliard - February 7, 2014 - 6:42 am

this is what your company is to me..the happiness on their faces could not make me love your mjc more.

Nicole - February 7, 2014 - 6:41 am

This post left me in tears! They are all my favorite, every single one of them. 🙂

Courtney - February 7, 2014 - 5:48 am

My favorite is the little girl with the pigtails (third or fourth from the bottom) being held by the older girl. They both look so cute! cdhshaw@yahoo.com.

Jenise Agostini - February 7, 2014 - 5:37 am

I love the picture of the girl in yellow chevron holding her sister in chevron leggings! So sweet, just melts my heart!

Dusty Kyle - February 7, 2014 - 3:57 am

This makes me so proud to be a customer of Matilda Jane Clothing!!! It’s so touching to see companies still do good in the world!! I was touched by all of your photos but I would have to say the first one of the little girl who was showing off her Christmas present is my favorite. Her eyes control the picture and you can tell she is in see of her new gift.

Such a touching story! Thank you for sharing with us so we can share with the rest of the world.

It was meant for me to happen upon this blog. I have been in such a funk this week — run out and worn down. Tonight though, as I sat scrolling and reading, the pictures of these beautiful people began to tell the story. My heart was overwhelmingly filled with thankfulness and appreciation. We are so blessed as a country and as individuals. I can’t imagine, after seeing their amazing smiles and spirits, a person not feeling blessed. Thank you for sharing! My favorite picture stopped me in my tracks; I assume she’s the elder sister holding her baby sister (both wearing chevron). Their faces, their eyes. I absolutely fell in love with them!!! In my mind, I’m contemplating how I can get those sweet babies’ home!?! Sorry. I can’t stand it! This is so touching. Heartwarming.

Lauren C - February 7, 2014 - 3:12 am

Pure joy! I have pure joy in my heart after reading this and seeing these beautiful children’s smiling faces. I absolutely love the last picture of the sisters holding hands.

Jessica Waldron - February 7, 2014 - 3:05 am

Alessandra - February 7, 2014 - 3:00 am

Wonderful work! Very emotional and inspiring! I love all the pictures cannot just pick one of them. They all carry so much feeling. Thank you for touching their lives!

Kelly Franz - February 7, 2014 - 2:15 am

What a beautiful story! I love Matilda Jane clothes, but I think I love them even more on these children! The joy on their faces is absolutely priceless. What an amazing gift they, as well as you, are giving all of them. I have two favorite photos. I love the one that shows all of them in their leggings with the bottom of the dresses swaying and only a few of their faces visible, but their dancing feet say it all!! I also love the one of the Mommas in their matching blue sweaters, dancing, and smiling ear to ear! Thank you for sharing this story with us.

Holly T. - February 7, 2014 - 2:00 am

To see this post has just moved me so much. In our society we take for granted what we have, the creature comforts, our freedoms, our family ties. We are so blessed, even in our darkest times. The severe injustice of this world just makes my heart ache but seeing these children and families touched by a little bit of light also gives me hope. Hope that someday things may change, hope that more people/companies will step up and affect even more change. Hope that one day there will be a whole lot less injustice, needless suffering, poverty. Hope that those little girlies will know how truly amazing they are.

I don’t think it’s possible to pick one picture, every single one of them completely made my night!

Thank you, Matilda Jane and Libby Brady! Thank you, thank you!

Kelly Parvin - February 7, 2014 - 2:00 am

The cultural merger of art in the image of the beautiful young girl wearing the knot dress and the traditional Kenyan beaded necklace is my favorite. Colors of beads have meaning and value in Africa. For those of us who adore Matilda Jane, colors of the clothing have meaning and value for us also. The color combinations, the mixing and matching, the way the clothing stands alone as unique on the individual, but still strongly connects to the greater tribe… all of this is similar to the bead tradition. Here in the states and in Africa we have powerful visual languages that are shared and means that allow us to stand in strength and independent vision. The picture of this young girl shows the beautiful moment of the easy merger between her historic beads and the Matilda Jane dress, which fits seamlessly in the lives of these beautiful young ladies. Her piercing eyes, soft and kind yet unflinching, look at me from continents away and say to me that she can see me in her heart as clearly as I can see her on my computer screen.

Brooke Tormanen - February 7, 2014 - 1:47 am

I was doing ok until I saw the picture of the mamas in their beautiful blue sweaters. I couldn’t breathe. Something that I take for granted everyday…beautiful clean bright clothing. In a place that the children’s needs get taken care of first, it makes me so happy to see these sweet ladies in a beautiful outfit…getting to be pampered if only for the day. Absolutely breathtaking pictures.

Carissa donarummo - February 7, 2014 - 1:34 am

The last picture just tugs at your heart!!! Beautiful !!!!!!!

Nicole Skrove - February 7, 2014 - 1:22 am

Libby, what you are doing for these young girls and women is absolutely amazing. I have tears reading this beautiful blog. I think the girls dancing in their mj leggings and knots is my favorite because of the true joy and spirit the picture captures. I run a small bow business and I would LOVE to gift some headbands for you to take back to your girls in May. Please contact me if this is something you need/want! I would be absolutely honored!!!!

I too love the last photo of the two sweet angel sisters walking back to their mud hut. If I win please just take the gift card and send just one more of them a little something. The line must have to end at some point……and Ii can only imagine how many are left standing in that line. So, if just one more little girl gets a little MJC piece….that would make my heart just smile. And I know it would y’all’s too. God bless you and your families for taking the time out for blessing others and their families. <3

Heather Lake - February 7, 2014 - 12:36 am

Well I started tearing up a quarter of the way through, and the tears flowed when I got to the sister picture at the end. It too is my favorite. As a mother of daughters I see the bond my girls have, a sister bond can be found around the world, through time, and God willing will last till the end of time. Those two little girls could be all each other has, but they have each other and hopefully it is as amazing of a love as my two have for each other.

Marti Hovater - February 7, 2014 - 12:34 am

What a beautiful display of your generosity and love for these amazing children! I love every image but the sisters walking hand in hand back to their village is my favorite! Thanks so much for sharing.

It gave me that feeling, you know the one, where your heart fills up along with the tears in your eyes. I can go to sleep happy now.

Jessica - February 7, 2014 - 12:26 am

You all have done the same for people here in America & you’ve absolutely touched my heart once again by writing this blog. It’s amazing what you’ve done & are continuing to do. My favorite picture is the one with all of the mommas happy & dancing in their Schools out big ruffles and neighborly stroll. My most favorite & comfy sweater I own!

The 17th picture with all the girls dancing is my favorite! You can almost hear the laughs and giggling! What a wonderful experience to share such treasures with all those children in need. How special those girls feel with their one new dress, makes me realize even more how much we really have, and what’s really important.

iris nakama - February 7, 2014 - 12:12 am

girly with backwards ethel… her smile could light up the world <3

Nikki Howell - February 7, 2014 - 12:11 am

I shared this. I just love your blog posts about helping the kids in Africa. My favorite picture is of the girl doing the photographer’s hair. It reminds me of my friend back home who adopted two siblings from Africa quite a few years ago. Her daughter is disabled and loved it when all of us friends would get together. She couldn’t run around with all of the other kids so she would always want to sit and do each others hair. She would ask her mom who was coming over and as soon as she knew it was us she would get all of the hair accessories in the entire house together in a basket. It’s been years since then and that little girl still fills my heart even though she’s now in high school and on the honor roll!

KaMarlowete - February 7, 2014 - 12:02 am

Poets have often taught us about beauty. It inspires, it hurts, it helps, it breaks, it builds. It is power, truth, death, hope, rebirth. This, this was beautiful. I despise that there are children in this world who don’t get as much love as they need and deserve, yet I love that others recognize this truth and are able and willing to makes changes. I further appreciate that we, the lovers of MJC, are allowed to be an exciting, albeit insignificant, part of of that pivotal change. Someday, I’ll have my Master’s and I’ll work with children in areas of poverty, but right now, I can purchase a “Trunk Show No-Knot” dress and give a tiny amount to a child a lifetime away from my daughter. And I do it with the same amount of love for beauty as the little girl who receives the funding. It’s almost magic.

Stacy Certain - February 7, 2014 - 12:00 am

Last picture
This path will always be there but with help like yours and from others who support your heart …these sisters may be able to choose a path that might actually turn into a road and that is truly where the PARADE will start.

My fave pic is all the girls dancing they all look so happy you are all amazing another reason we love matilda jane!<3

Valerie Wall - February 6, 2014 - 11:52 pm

Matilda Jane is such an inspiring company. I adore the picture of the young girl doing the photographer’s hair (the photographer is just out of frame). For me, it captured an innocent moment in time where a child was doing something both playful AND helpful. My daughter always likes to “brush my hair” to say thank for doing her hair, so for me that picture touched my heart. It felt like a bonding moment, as well as a moment of appreciation.
Valerie and Violet

Kecia Williams - February 6, 2014 - 11:40 pm

I really like all of the pictures but the very first one is my favorite. The expressions on the girls’ faces show that a smile is universal in any language, in any country! These faces remind me of similar smiles from my Honduras mission trip in 2009!

Gemma Garcia - February 6, 2014 - 11:36 pm

Love! Absolutely love!! It is so hard to just pick one picture as they are all my favorite and each picture had a story to tell. Wow. This post carried me through a tidal wave of emotions… I was getting tears in my eyes from sadness and happiness as I kept on scrolling to want to read and see more. These gals are so beautiful, as was your story. I am inspired to be as selfless in my little part of the world in NE, Ohio. It was completely MY pleasure to share this link on my homepage!

Now, as for my favorite pic, there is no way that i can just pick one of the younger gals so I’d have to go with the pic of the women dancing. Their sheer joy in their faces in the ruffle pants and Neighborhood Stroll sweater made me want to get up off my couch and dance with them! Loved it–brought SUCH a smile to my face!!! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing. ((HUGS))

Amber - February 6, 2014 - 11:20 pm

Yes and Amen Libby!!! This is exactly why my heart is filled with joy when I tell others about Matilda Jane… What a Beautiful Company…. I can’t say that I have a favorite photo, but the one of the girl starting to braid a lady taking photographs caught my eye… Maybe she just enjoyed touching her hair, but maybe something more… She wanted to give her something…. Braid her hair… Like the woman washing Jesus’ feet….

Brooke Hooper - February 6, 2014 - 11:16 pm

Joni McDonald - February 6, 2014 - 11:10 pm

The 4th picture from the bottom is my favorite. The little girl’s smile is beautiful and shows the joy that is in her heart. Thank you for your ministry with these precious people. God bless you!

RaeAnn Humphrey - February 6, 2014 - 11:09 pm

I love all of these pictures! But the one where the little girl is looking at the woman tying her knot on her dress is my favorite! It’s just pure sweetness!

I have to say that this blog post was so touching. As tears stream down my face my heart feels so full because I feel like a part of this amazing company. Even though I am only a customer I feel like I live through the morals and values of this company through the amazing employees and the their constant efforts of helping others. I have two favorite photos….the first one is of the little bald girl having her knot top tied by the beautiful volunteer and the second is of the older girls/women dancing in their ruffled cardigans. The little girl in the first picture looks so comforted by the woman helping her and the joy of the second picture shows what Matilda Jane is all about. Their smiles remind me of my daughter twirling and dancing when we get a new MJ package in the mail. I love supporting a company that supports others! Bless those girls and I hope they continue twirling and smiling daily!

Nancy Gainous - February 6, 2014 - 11:03 pm

Jaymie - February 6, 2014 - 11:00 pm

Just another example of why I love MJ and am proud to dress my daughter in it! There is so much love and joy in the clothing and that isn’t just an expression of the wonderful colors and whimsical patterns- it is an expression of what is in the hearts of the people that create it for our girls and girls all over the world to smile from the inside! Sweetness and happiness and joy and HOPE! Thanks for sharing this Denise (always)!
And I must say- the picture of the women in the sweaters and ruffles was my favorite! Very special! We forget sometimes that there are little girls that grow up too!

Amanda Moore - February 6, 2014 - 11:00 pm

Amazing stories. All.in could.think while reading was how can I help? My favorite pic is actually one of whack I think is mothers all in blue. How lucky we all are to be able to buy our children outfits from Matilda Jane and see there faces light up or see them spin in a new dress. But it is truly humbling to see the joy on a child’s face when those gifts are given by a kind stranger. Brings tears to your eye to see the joy in each set of little eyes now wearing the colors and fun patterns little girls.and moms love. You are truly amazing to make the changes in so many lives and Denise also amazing and generous for those in need. The world needs more.people just like you both. ♥♥♥

This is beautiful! So happy for these precious children to be blessed by these beautiful clothes. Honored to support this company!

Cheri - February 6, 2014 - 10:53 pm

Oh, I have tears in my eyes reading this blog. The beautiful children, the beautiful clothes, the beauty in the hearts of those who bring this joy… Thank you.

My favorite picture of the children is the third from the last, with the three girls whose faces radiate joy from their Christmas gifts. So lovely!

However, my overall favorite is the least “pretty” picture from the post–it is the shipping label for the delivery, to the hospital in Kijabe. I went to school for two years at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, and it makes my heart so happy to see these gifts (of time and love, not just lovely clothing) being bestowed on the children of the area. I’ll be remembering Kenya tonight. Thank you!!!

Darby N - February 6, 2014 - 10:52 pm

Amazing generosity and compassion! My favorite image is the 5th picture. The joy felt by these young children is so evident in each girl’s body language. I can just hear them singing!

angie - February 6, 2014 - 10:52 pm

Look at those smiling faces!! So very generous!! You never cease to amaze me Matilda Jane!!

Sherri - February 6, 2014 - 10:51 pm

Not sure how to pick a favorite. But the little girls smile in the 5th from the bottom is beautiful! Love the negative space in the photo too 🙂

Jamie Pearson - February 6, 2014 - 10:50 pm

Oh this brings me to tears! I love all the pictures! I can’t decide on a favorite…I’m partial to the three sweet girls from the orphanage, but I also love that the women weren’t left out, they looks so pretty dancing in the long cardis and ruffle pants! I’m sharing on Facebook and Twitter (@BelleofCarolina).

FAITH - February 6, 2014 - 10:50 pm

My favorite picture is the one of the 3 girls towards the bottom. They just look so happy and grateful and EXCITED! for the new clothes. I love this!!!

Wow, this post has left me in tears. What an incredible, thoughtful, and loving act of kindness you provided for these children and women. So inspiring! My favorite picture is the close up picture of the little girl wearing the yellow ethel. I can see 100% Pure genuine happiness in her eyes…the glimmer and shine in them for hope and being thankful. The eyes of a child will tell no lies. That picture will probably be the most memorable day of her life and it is so amazing that I got to see her expression. Thank you SO much for sharing this!

This post is so moving. To see their faces light up – my favorite picture is the beautiful ladies in their Neighborly Stroll cardigans together (the tiered blue sweaters). I can feel the rhythm in the photo. I would be honored to share you blog on my Twitter page. Thank you for sharing this experience!
