Living the Dream

Tuesday again? Seriously, I feel like this past week flew by!

Wanna talk more about Africa?

I hope so, cause that’s what I’m going to talk about yet again.

This weekend I spent a lot of time with Denise and friends talking about my future in Africa and for the first time it feels real.

I am actually moving to Kitale, Kenya..and soon.

The plan is for me to move in August which kind of feels far off but at the same time I know time will fly by and it’ll be moving day before I even know it.

Summertime is always busy for us here at MJC with preparing for Art Fair and then our Trunk Keeper conference and then finally with the reveal of the new collection.

It’s seems weird to even imagine my life away from MJC and spending my days away from all my girls and the fabric and the warehouse and even Fort Wayne.

But I’m trading it all in to move all the way to Africa to spend time with the kids that I have fallen in love with and continue to work towards my dream of starting a sewing co-op with a group of ladies from the slums. I have so many crazy feelings about this new chapter of my life but I am beyond excited and can’t wait to see where I am at even a year from now. I know that along with all the amazing things that will come from this I will have my challenges and it’ll take time to adjust to the new culture and making new friends and finding my place in a whole new country. As scary as that may sound I can’t wait to just be there and finally be pursuing my dreams. Which still blows my mind on a daily basis, I’m only 21 and already able to follow my dreams and it’s all because of Denise and MJC. Cause let’s be honest, if Denise didn’t think I was cute way back when I was just an intern and kept me around who knows where I would be at in life. So, I guess what I am trying to get at is that I am beyond thankful for the opportunities Denise has allowed me to be a part of and thankful for all of your guys’ support because without you we wouldn’t be anywhere.

Okay, things got a little more sentimental than I thought they would and I could go on and on and on but I’ll just keep it short this time.

Talk to ya next week,

-Kiara

Kiara,
How exciting that you are going to be able to begin a journey that will have a lasting impact. We’ve not met…yet…but if you are going to be in Kitale and interacting with Seeds Ministry, Seeds Academy, Seeds Children’s Home and Bread of Life Feeding Centre, at some point our paths will cross. My wife, son, his girlfriend, myself and 16 others will be in Kitale working alongside Pastor Richard & Hellen from July 24-August 3. The support that Denise, David and the entire, incredible Matilda Jane extended family has poured out in order to make a difference in so many lives is incredible. And the fact that you are about to devote your entire self to the cause is inspiring. You remind me of another young lady who picked up and followed her heart…if you’ve not yet read Kisses From Katie, by Katie Davis…you must! Perhaps we’ll see a New York Times bestseller one day titled: Kiara’s Kernel: How a Soft Heart Blossomed a Life-Changing Enterprise!

Kiara, I have never met you but I am so happy for you and for all that is going to come your way. Please share with us as you travel this exciting journey and know many of us will be keeping you in our thought and prayers. And, yes, the Matilda Jane Clothing Company, Denise and David, can add “dream maker” to the long list of phrases, words that help describe them.

How amazing to be able to follow your dreams and at such a young age! I wish you the best and can’t wait to hear more! Denise and MJC (including you) rock! 🙂

Wow! That is an exciting life changing event! Good luck and if you are following your dreams at 21 you are a lucky gal!

KarenK - March 12, 2013 - 4:17 pm

I am speechless, Kiara. What an incredible choice you have made. I don’t know if at 21 I would have been brave enough to do what you are doing, but in my later 30’s I know now that if I had done something like this, it would have been the most amazing experience to have been able to live. I wish you the best. 🙂

Kiara, this is so great. My Brother-in-law travels with a team every year for a few weeks to a particular orphanage in Nakuru, Kenya (about 3 hours from Kitale). I know he was changed forever the first time he stepped foot on African soil, so I know you truly leave your heart there when you go. I am glad you are following your heart, and I hope you impact many lives there. Good luck to you!

WOW! Oh my goodness, this is HUGE news! Holy cats Kiara, that’s amazing! Blessings to you as you wrap up your life here in FW. You will be missed, but making a HUGE impact overseas!

Gabriela Lavat - March 12, 2013 - 3:37 pm

Wow!!! 21 and already accomplishing so many things. I hope we had more young men and women like you who instead of focusing on all the dificulties of life would focus on serving those that need it most and help them achieve their goals in life. You got a good future ahead of you. Your family must be so proud.

Stephanie - March 12, 2013 - 3:35 pm
