until I step onto a plane…with Kayla & Kiki…and fly to Rwanda!
I still think I need to be pinched so I will believe that I’m not just dreaming this all up. It is just too wonderful! I have confirmed our flights to Africa, so it’s OFFICIAL! And now I can check another item off my list:

From the looks of my list, all I have left to do is shop
And I think I’ll start by getting some of those adorable bracelets on our site. They are going to be PERFECT for Easter baskets! Oh! and I can’t forget to ask my dad to make me LOTS of beef jerky (just in case I’m in need of some American food! haha)
The only downside to this trip? I’m going to be away from my hubby and my ‘babies’ for 2 whole weeks. I’m going to miss them SO much!! And I know my poor Maxie will be waiting for me by the window every night…

Isn’t he just pitiful? Josh had class the other night and Max checked the window every few minutes until he finally came home. He just wants the whole family to be home together…poor guy. Here are my other babies…

Mini Meow or Minnie Mouse (depends if you ask me or Josh) Ha!
Those are my cuties!! I love them and will miss them terribly, but this trip is totally worth it!! And I can’t wait to go! Have any of you lovely ladies been to Africa? If so, I’d love to hear your stories! Or any tips you may have!
I hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon!!

Journal – so you won’t forget a single amazing detail of your adventure!
Hey ladies I am so happy for you. My hubby works for US Army Africa. Please Please remember to get your malaria shots before you enter Africa. You don’t want to try to shake that one off. God Bless!
You are going to have an AMAZING TIME!!!! I have been to Africa, in college I went for a month and it was just the most amazing experience in my life besides the birth of my children! I spent time in Zambia and Zimbabwe which are both very friendly countries!( I always forget that Africa is a Continent that has many different countries)
We spent some time in the orphanages, so be prepared to fall in love and cry daily! The children are so full of laughter, love and the greatest smiles ever!!!!! The people are amazing and yes even though we ate some strange food, it was so worth it! If you have a chance, try EMU OR OSTRICH! You won’t be disappointed! Don’t be afraid to eat with your hands, take lots and lots of pictures so you do not forget a thing! Sleep on the plane if you can—it is such a long flight. We went from Baltimore to London and then from London to a bigger airport in Zimbabwe and then from Zimbabwe to a small tiny little airport in Lusaka Zambia!
Listen to your guides and the seasoned people that are helping you and ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY
have never been, but looking forward to hearing of your adventure.
I haven’t been to Africa but my husband has for work and my sister in law went on a mission trip. They both loved their very different experiences and had so many wonderful stories and pictures to share. I am sure you will too! My husband cannot wait until our 3 year old is old enough so that we can take all three of our girls there on a mission trip to expose them to what life is like outside of suburbia. Scares me a little to think of my babies out there in the real world but God will prepare me I am sure when the time is right! Enjoy your trip. I know it will be amazing and will leave a lasting impression on those you are helping empower!
I lived in Mozambique 2 summers, and all I can say is watch every sunset you can, they are amazing! If you can go to South Africa at all, Kruger Natl. park is amazing – you stay in your car and the animals run free. Opposite of the zoo. So jealous!
My husband has been a couple of times to Uganda for missions trips. Here are his tips: bring lots of hand sanatizer, misquito nets (depending on where you are sleeping), and dont eat fruit and veggies without peeling them…dont eat the skins. Have fun on your trip!!
No exotic trips here…only beach vacations so far…maybe one day! Have a wonderful trip…get to shopping lady!
Alicia! I am so excited for y’all! I know that this is going to be one of those trips you all will be talking about for the rest of your lives. Wish I got to see y’all before you leave!!
Rebel–A journal is such a great idea!! Thank you for mentioning that! And wow! I love hearing ya’lls stories about your Africa experiences!!
The thing I loved the most about my trip to Africa was the pace. The pace is so much slower in Africa than here in the US, at least in the village we stayed in. Who wouldn’t enjoy slowing down just a bit, even though your schedule will probably be packed. When I went to Uganda, half of my suitcase was packed with food. You may be staying in a much more commercialized spot, but we were in a remote village. We lived on Clif bars and bottled water mixes. Enjoy your time!! Try to Journal at least once a day, it’s amazing how fast you forget when you get back to crazy life!!
This is going to be such an amazing trip for you. My only advice would be to check if you can bring beef jerky into the country. A lot of countries do not allow meat products to enter and you could have a problem with customs.
ENJOY!!!
I have never been to Africa either, but make sure to sleep on the plane when you can.
Take one of those inflatable neck pillows and a cute eye mask and ear plugs. I know it sounds weird, but they are all musts for a long flight.
Enjoy you time away and I can’t wait to hear about it when you get back, too.
I like your site, its such a nice information and i appericiate that.

I am new to MJ, and I have been very interested in reading about your trip to Africa. I am going to Africa next summer, and I am actually going to Rwanda as well. I have a very good friend who lives there and does mission work there. She works with women who are or have been prostitutes and tries to help them learn skills that will help them get out of prostitution and find a job where they can use their newly learned skills. She also works with friends in the US to provide support for the children of these women so they can go to school. When I read your post about the name that was chosen for the next piece, Immaculee, I couldn’t help but laugh. A woman from Rwanda who helps my friend with her ministry has the same name, but it is not the same person. Anyway, I am very excited y’all are getting to take this trip. My family and I send support for schooling of one of the children, Blaise. He is the most adorable little thing. We also sent clothing and toiletries to him for Christmas, and he was so excited! Y’all are going to have so much fun! Sorry for the long post! I’m praying your trip goes well.
