So I didn’t get to go up North but that is okay. I did run up to Michigan to pick up Gabe from Deedee. He’s been at my mom’s for the past 4 days. Love that little guy. As I am typing he is screaming my name to come lay with him. And seriously, how many times do I say “just a minute” in a day? Have you ever counted? Try it tomorrow. I will too, and I am forecasting my count to be like 44.
I wanted to play a Name that Trunk Keeper game but I really need to run upstairs. SO we will settle for something quick and easy. The moment I start sketching, I name the collection. Not for any reason other than I have to save the file under a name, so I need a name. Any clue on what Fall 2010 was named for the first 6 months of it’s life? It’ll be a good prize.
You know I always hesitate on telling the back stories cuz (and don’t laugh) but I feel like it makes me look unprofessional. Maybe it is because I have never been exposed to other designers back stories, or maybe cuz I feel I am always supposed to paint a pretty picture. But the response from you guys the other day was unreal. I loved that you liked hearing the real “guts”. So tonite I will tell you secret #4.
And Secret Number 4 would be all about Lizzy. Oh Lizzy, she was never on the line up. I had envisioned a great adult Finn skirt with a green leaf print. It turned out to be pretty expensive so I made the change to make the base a solid green and the ruffles printed. It is amazing on how much money you can save on little things like that. Good thing or else I would have to charge 92 bucks for it. Well, we get to Peru and whoa…seriously, I love that green fabric, love it but certainly not as ruffles on my bum in Fall. In Spring sure but not a Fall skirt. Yes, so Lynette and I exchanged a laugh and said, “No way” and cancelled Finn. Problem was , now we had yards of printed and solid green that was paid for and not returnable. We played around with a few things, gave up, and went back to the hotel. Yes, this is when Anna came back to life, and you know how that goes. The creative juices started flowing and we came up with Lizzy. She was supposed to have a great sash also but because she was so last minute we had no time to order ribbon. We went to the market place and hoped of getting something over the counter. NOPE. OMG but we did come up with all those great buttons on the ribbon hunt so it certainly was not a wasted trip. And you know what, in the end, I am so glad she has that simple black button and no sash..she would have been too fluffy. And for Finn? You will see her makeover in Collection 2.
UPDATE : Still no right answer so here’s a little help. OKAY. a little help with the name..you’ll have to unscramble these letters to get the answer.

As for Lizzie, when I arrived at the trunk show yesterday, that my daughter and I were planning for weeks to attend, we had our wishlist in hand. She fell in love with Lizzie. Then our trunk keeper informs us that all they have left is a 12. We wanted an 8. My Lily was bummed. Thankfully, our sweet trunk keeper sold us her sample and we got to take some MJC home with us that day. Lily was overjoyed, ” We never get to have our new clothes on the same day, momma! How fun!” We were so glad you designed Lizzie.

Apparently everyone else is guessing the same guess as me 🙁 I wish I would have come on your blog sooner and I should have looked at the responses before I posted. Oh well… That’s what happens I guess when I don’t check the blog for one day! I figured it is Chestnut Alley out of all the words I can make from those letters because there is a Chestnut Alley in England with beautiful trees and I know you would love it so I figured you would name your line after such a beautiful place. Maybe I’m wrong though. My hubby is from England so of course I think places in England are great! Also, I thought of chestnuts because it’s like the color brown you used in so many pieces this Fall.
