Since I started working here in March of 2008 I was amazed at Denise’s generosity. Every season we do multiple “spread the loves” for families who may not be able to afford Matilda Jane otherwise, or families that may just need a pick me up. It can be something as simple as a dress or back to school supplies but either way you know it is an unexpected gift and well….. who doesn’t like those. Being a part of a company that partakes in such acts and shares the love as Matilda Jane does is gratifying. I think this type of generosity is unheard of anymore. Denise has always said “A gift is best when given away”. This is so true on many levels. Because of everyone involved with Matilda Jane, we have also been blessed with being able to supply orphanages as far as India and Nigeria with clothing. Recently we were in touch with an orphanage in India called The Rhema Project. After reading their story you will see that this is something we wanted to be apart of. Check them out here http://www.therhemaproject.org/. They sent a pic yesterday of all the girls sporting there MJC and I think the pic says it all.
It is photos like this that really put things into perspective when you see their sweet innocent faces.
Which brings me to my next idea, and trust me, they are few and far between.
This pic inspired me. It inspired me to to do something nice for someone I don’t know. Something random and unexpected. It can be something as simple as buying the person behind you a cup of coffee, or going to a Nursing Home or Veterans Home with flowers. I hope you guys will join in with me this weekend. Their might even be something in it for you. If you decide to take the challenge and do something nice for a stranger, email me your story at [email protected] with your name and address.
Have a GREAT Fall weekend everyone.
Remember to enjoy the little things and Smile
XOXO
Kayla

AMAZING!
My husband has a very high platelet count and he takes time out of his day, like today, to go and give platelets….. they can do a split and get 2 donations from one, when we lived in NY they had machines that would allow for him to do a triple donation. The platelets can be walked right across the street and given to cancer patients. He feels like he needs to give back to the universe since we have been so blessed with 3 healthy children. I LOVE MY HUSBAND~~
This is wonderful. Always live each day to make the world a better place than is was before
What a wonderful idea Kayla. We celbrated the life of my grandma today and this would have been something she would have loved to do. She was a wonderful woman and we were Blessed to have her in our lives.
Sitting the passenger seat on a VERY long drive from Franklin (Nashville), TN to Omaha, NE for my uncle’s funeral. Checked out FB … it led me to this Blog posting … Lovely story and a great inspiration to spread the love this week- end … Thank you!
this is a great picture..thanks to all at MJC for all you do and give to others!!
Hey I love Matilda Jane clothing but most of all i love the fact you can give back. Matilda Jane is fairly new to my area and I am actually attending my first trunk show next week.I have several pieces from field trip and other lines. I am probably one of the few that is aware of it here maybe a handful so instead of ebaying my hand me downs I will be giving a knot dress and the ditty ruffles to someone who is in need.I am always on board of giving back especially to children.

Awesome!!! Such precious little ones! (I tried to email you as well but it was kicked back).
This pic brought so many emotions up in me. In the summer of 2005 I spent two weeks in Africa. This mission trip was life changing to say the least and really put things into prospective. On afternoon on of our interpreters told me she needed to talk to me this afternoon. I was nervous because it was at the end of the trip, and I had giving all that I own but one change a cloths for the trip home. I was afraid she was going to ask me for something, and I didn’t have anything left to give. That night as she spoke with me, she said that she new I wanted the Lord to bless me with a child. She wanted to pray for me and let me know that she and the ladies in her village would continue to pray for me when I left to go home to America. She wanted to give back to me for all that I had done in the best way that she knew how. After one tubal, two miscarriages, and several failed procedures I had lost hope for a biological child. My husband was warming up to adoption. Within two moths of my trip, I conceived my daughter naturally. She was four months old when we found out my son was coming. Although I will never see here again, I think of her gift often and remember her in my prayers.
love this post. its kinda how my husband and i have always approached life. years ago….and i mean years ago…like fifteen at least…Oprah did a show on random acts of kindness. i recall that she paid the toll for folks behind her and shared how fulfilling even the most simple acts of kindness can change someones day (mainly the one performing the act.) so, i remember walking in downtown lexington ky one warm autumn afternoon-saw some construction workers and went to the supermarket and bought a box of icecream bars. i took em over, handed em out, and these brawny men looked so confused. i said, hope u have a good day and this is just a random act of kindness. they beamed ear to ear. years later, the movie, PAY IT FORWARD was released. we both (hubby and i) were moved to tears-well before we were ever parents. anyway, we both try to do this since then and regularly. maybe its at the coffee shop drive thru. we buy the car behind us coffee and ask the barista to say to them, the car before you said have a smile-filled day and REMEMBER TO PAY IT FORWARD, somehow. once, the barista told us the act continued the whole morning! how cool is that? sometimes its at the drive thru at mcdonalds, etc. my favorite time was when we saw a young family of three, the dad dressed in military dress blues out for dinner. we picked up their tab (anonymously) i mean, afterall, that dad was/is willing to sacrifice his LIFE so our nation, every single one of us, can wrap up in a blanket of security that guarantees our very freedom every. single. day/night. it was our way of saying a heart-felt thank you to that gentleman and his young beautiful family for their incredible sacrifice. thats my Oprah lesson that has really impacted my life as a woman, as a citizen and most definitely now, as a Momma. and one reason that i so *heart* MJC….that denise and all of you gals know truly that the BEST gift IS the one thats given away! i think today, we will bring a treat to the firehouse, and have my children hand em over and before THEY say thanks…MAKE SURE that the KIDS say it first—to them! xo
e-mail keeps being sent back…
I like making people smile so if I can get someone the best deal on their children’s clothes at my work , chat with someone in line or who is ringing me up, do a Jamie jig, whatever it takes if it comes up in the day. The day you posted the blog a woman was walking out of the grocery store dropping things out of her purse as she went. I was walking next to another woman, nothing, didn’t flinch. I just immediately picked up everything and ran after her. She kind of half grinned and let out a thanks, but I smiled big because I’d want someone to do the same for me and if it was something important I was glad she had it back…:) *Jamie
That is beautiful! I still remember the photo of the girls in the Arfican Village in MJ. I’m so proud at this moment to be a part of this and oh yes Kayla I will gladly take part in your random acts of kindness weekend!!! Even if I am getting it late… Mondays are even better for this! Have a GREAT week at 435!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being a company I am proud to buy from!
Those clothes clothes look so good on those beautiful children!
My guess on what does not belong… Franklin and the black & white baby face! Franklin kind of fits, but he’s not wearing any MJC!
It is not always what you do or buy for a person, but what you say to them. Everyone is so busy in the world today that they forget just how much a thank you and have a great day means to someone. I told two workers at walmart that the other day and that made them smile. Just starting a brief conversation made them smile and saying a few nice words.
Hello..this is my first time on your blog, well because I just had my first baby girl this year after 2 boys=) I had to share one of the sweetest random acts of kindness I ever witnessed. It started at Bob Evans where my husband and I had breakfast with our then baby boy, when we asked for our check, the waitress said that it had already been paid. Of course we were dying to know by whom and maybe it was someone we knew…all she would tell us is that it was a 30 something man that was there with his 2 girls…no one that we knew. Well 2 weeks later we went back for breakfast and I immediately noticed a man at the counter sitting with 2 little girls, as I watched them finishing up…I saw them scanning the restaurant discussing and obviously choosing whom to gift breakfast with that day…I was almost moved to tears at what an amazing thing to not only surprise a stranger with free breakfast but to teach your children what it is to give without expecting anything in return! It was the sweetest thing…and of course my husband and I had to pay it forward…so we chose a family and paid for there breakfast too!! Giving an unexpected treat is truly the best feeling in the world!
I absolutely LOVE this picture! They look beautiful in their Matilda Jane!
