Candid Keepers #420

Introducing:

Regan Buckaloo of Kerrville, TX

Most Valued Form of Character:

Nobility

Q:  Please tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and where are you now?

A:  Hi! I am Regan Hardin Buckaloo – a daughter, a wife, a mother, a friend… I was born in Italy and moved to Texas when I was 4 to be reared in Kerrville – the “Heart of the Hill Country” – my father’s boyhood home. My family and I moved back to Kerrville in 2007. (As I am writing I realize that my daughter was also 4 when she moved to Kerrville, like me! Hmmm)

Q:  How did you meet and fall in love with your husband?

A:  I met my husband, Cleatis Roy Buckaloo a.k.a. “Clete” (what a name, right?!?!), in Kerrville about a year after I graduated from college. I was working for the District Attorney, and on my first day in walked a handsome stranger in boots, cowboy hat and business suit. It was love at first sight! We married 2 years later and last May we celebrated 15 years of marriage.

Q:  Tell us about that beautiful Emma Claire.

A:  Emma Claire is 9 years old and she is good at it! I love her more than I can bear and am overwhelmed by how fantastic she is – everyday! She is absolutely exactly one-half me and one-half her father, except for the blue eyes… we are still trying to figure that one out! EC is quite the renaissance girl, 2nd degree purple belt in Karate, singer, guitar player, dancer, swimmer, horseman, soccer, loves to draw… she keeps me busy! I’ll quote Ian Falconer the author of the Olivia book, “You know, you (Olivia & Emma Claire) really wear me out. But I love you anyway.”

Q:  What did you do in your previous life? Pre-‐Matilda Jane?

A:  I “retired” shortly after my daughter was born. My professional career was in Public Relations and Marketing. Most of my work was in the health care field. It was so hard and so rewarding!!!

Q:  What is your favorite part of working for Matilda Jane?

A:  I am a shopper. Oh yes, and a buyer too! I have a passion to style outfits, homes, etc. Matilda Jane certainly fulfills that interest. I love to find the perfect something for someone. It gives me great joy to bring beauty into someone’s day.

Q:  If you could wear one item every day, what would that be?

A:  Diamonds

Q:  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A:  @ 45 and happy & healthy!

Q:  What are your favorite blogs or websites you visit EVERY day?

A:  I just don’t. I could lie, right?!?! Even facebook overwhelms me! I do check the MJ blog a couple times a week – does that count??? I’d rather read a good novel. I’d really rather just be with people!

Q:  Besides your children, what has your greatest accomplishment been thus far?

A:  I’ve never been arrested.
I don’t know if I have had “my greatest accomplishment” yet. I’m relatively pleased with what I have taken on in my life. I am fortunate that I have had many opportunities others haven’t. I am proud of what I have achieved, my education, work, etc. and proud that I have learned from my many, many mistakes. I am excited to continue my journey through life and celebrate all the little & big victories – I’ll keep you posted…

Q:  Share with us just ONE very important thing you do to try to leave this world a better place.

A:  No pressure. I hope that I always treat individuals with care. I want each person I meet or know to feel liked, special and that they matter not only to me but the world.

Q:   What is your favorite holiday and why?

A:  I would have to choose Thanksgiving as my favorite holiday. It seems to be the one holiday that family and friends WANT to get together and make the effort to do so. The holiday also evokes much more care, reflection and “giving” from people more than any other time, which is soooooo nice. Not to mention, I could eat my weight in cornbread dressing!!!

Q:  How have you learned to balance life with the many, many hats you wear?

A:  If my house is clean and organized I can take on anything without hesitation or delay. Of course, it doesn’t stay that way for long!  I don’t know… as women and mothers we just do and get it done somehow. Right?

Q:  What is the most valuable lesson you hope to instill in your children?

A:  That mother is always right. Honestly, I want Emma Claire to know that her Lord and Savior, her faith and the Bible are what will carry, instruct, and help her throughout life. She will not have true joy and peace without it.

Q:  Salty or sweet?

A:  Anything with nuts! Especially hazelnuts or pistachios or almonds or walnuts or pecans… you get the idea.

Q:  What do you love most about having kids?

A:  I love it that I just have one! Ha ha! Last weekend I babysat one of my BFF’s 1 yr old twins for 24 hrs and I can’t remember ever being that tired! Seriously, I LOVE the “love” that I have for my daughter. And I LOVE how much she loves me. I LOVE how she believes that I am the best at everything!

Q:  If you could have lunch with any celebrity, who would you choose and why?

A:  Bond, James Bond. I am absolutely infatuated with this character and have been since about the age of 11. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sean Connery!!! And, that Daniel Craig ain’t bad either! I always say that my husband is a “handsome man like Sean Connery” and that’s the reason why I married him. My mother says she married my dad because he reminded her of Gregory Peck. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Q:  If you could have Sam design any item for Matilda Jane, what would it be and why?

A:  Maybe something bridal? I think that MJ “flower girl” dresses would “fly off the shelves”.

Q:  Lastly, in the spirit of Heart~Soul~Pride, what in your opinion is the most important form of character?

A:  Noble. Being exalted morally and mentally, possessing outstanding qualities.

I want more nobility in our world, more integrity, more truth, more compassion, more care, more giving, more helpfulness, more work, more SMILES, more HEART and more SOUL.
I want CHARACTER TO COUNT!!
