Candid Keepers #452

Introducing:

Jackie Colvin of Baton Rouge, LA

Favorite Place:

Crowley, LA

Q:  Hey there, you know the drill.  Tell us your basic info.

A:  I am a southern girl, born and raised in South Louisiana.  I grew up on a rice and crawfish farm, with two brothers.  I went to LSU (Geaux Tigers), graduated and became a teacher.  I taught for ten years, got married, then decided to stay at home with my little girl, Caroline.  I fell in love with Matilda Jane and decided to become a trunk keeper.

Q:  I always love to hear how people met and fell in love with their spouse.  Do share.

A:  I knew my husband through friends in college, but I didn’t know him well.  I remember thinking he was such a good-looking, nice guy.  Several years went by after college and I ran into him at a local hangout.  He was single, and I thought ‘Thank Heavens’ because I wanted him to ask me out.  He called a few days later and we’ve been together ever since. J

Q:  How many kiddos do you have?  Give us a little glimpse into who they are.

A:  We have one sixteen month old little girl, Caroline.  She is a hoot!  She is so much fun and oh so sweet.  She is into everything, typical of a 16 month old.  She’s a determined little girl and already so smart.  Matilda Jane clothes fit her little personality and I can’t help but smile when I see her wearing it.

Q:  How long have you been with Matilda Jane and when did you know you wanted to be a Trunk Keeper?

A: I’ve been shopping with Matilda Jane since House of Clouds.  I didn’t have kids then, but I bought myself the Stillwater dress – I just had to have it.  I knew I wanted to be a Trunk Keeper when my trunk keeper talked to me about it.  I started shadowing her and helping her with releases.  I would count down the days to the next release because I LOVED seeing all the little girls trying on clothes and how excited the mommas would get about the clothes.  That’s when I knew.

Q:  What do you think is the greatest invention of all time?

A:  This is a tough one… all I can come up with is… indoor plumbing?!?!  Our lives would be a lot different with out it.

Q:  What special talent do you wish you possessed?

A: Singing!  I love to sing, but I sound terrible!  So bad, that people turn around and look at me in church.  I’m tone deaf.  I sing my heart out in the car when listening to my favorite country music.  My little girl smiles when I sing to her; but I have a feeling that ‘s about to change.

Q:  Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

A:  My parents.  Definitely, my parents.  My dad is the hardest working man I know.  He’s a farmer.  He takes pride in his work and it shows.  My mom, because she is the most involved person I know.  Whether it be Church, the garden club, social club, etc.  She puts her heart and soul in everything that she does and I admire her for that.

Q:  If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, who would that be and where would you go?

A: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis at her estate home on Martha’s Vineyard.  I’ve always admired her style, class, and charisma.  Her life story is amazing.  Plus, I love her children’s names!

Q:  What is your favorite time of day and why?

A:  My favorite time of day is the evening at sunset.  I love sitting outside while my husband grills dinner and my little girl is running around in the backyard.  It’s so peaceful and calm and everyone is home together.

Q:  What is your favorite family tradition?

A:  Going to the beach in the summer with my parents, siblings, nieces and nephew.  It’s one time a year that we are all together, not working and can relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Q:  Which TV family is most like your own?

A:  I’d have to say, the Huxtables from The Cosby Show.  The way that they laugh and make fun of each other, but you know that they really do care and love one another reminds me of my own family.  I loved that show as a child.

Q:  Are you a country mouse or city mouse?

A:  Both!  I grew up on a farm, riding 4-wheelers and fishing in the back yard.  Now, I live in the middle of Baton Rouge and I LOVE it!  I now have neighbors and friends that live a few houses down.  I live really close to great shopping… I’d say I have a little of both in me.

Q:  Good Hart is such a special place to Denise.  What town holds a special place in your heart?

A:  Oh, this is an easy one.  The quaint little town of Crowley, Louisiana.  I grew up there, my family is there, childhood friends are there and it absolutely holds a special place in my heart.

These pictures, which some may find disturbing, show a young man dragging a resistant calf by the trunk to get it on to the weighing scales for a check-up at Wuppertal Zoo in Germany.
