Findin’ time, findin’ typos

Being busy is always an understatement when it comes to Matilda Jane. But trust me, it’s never a bad kind of busy when you love the work like we do. How lucky are we to be a part of a place like this? We all own our jobs and in turn feel like we own bit of this crazy company. Ha it’s even weird to call Matilda Jane a company, even though I know we are. But we’re so much more. I’ll save that for another day though. I miss writing gooey blogs to you guys! Soon..soon I’ll be back.

There are so many things that make us “us”. The colors, the silly-out-of-nowhere-kitty graphics, and even the way we design—I think. I don’t want to assume I know how others design! But sometimes I do feel a little funny saying we make paper dolls and play at a table for hours dreaming of combinations and creations. Who knows, maybe that’s how everyone does it?

Anyway, tomorrow we release some of the most unique pieces of the entire Good Hart Collection. The bold stripes and the striking Kelly green are some of my absolute favorite additions. I can remember sitting in Florida with Denise like it was yesterday… We got an email from our pals in production that said we had extra fabric from our Spring 2013 collection. And oh man! We were like yes, please, we live to design and love to make more items for you. Then, we start fantasizing new styles, new patterns, and new colors almost instantly. Anything to use the extra fabric and to spice up something we already completely love. Honestly, 15 minutes later we had about a dozen solid ideas, and about 2 months later we had them finalized. A month later we had samples and now they are being released to you guys. Nothing makes me happier than imagining your daughters in Matilda Jane; completely happy and comfortable.

After all the work, plotting, and planning, of course…here’s the hiccup. Today we received an email from Lynette, completely distraught, because the Say It Sweetly Dress has a flaw. Yep, the typo strikes again. And this time we can honestly say it was out of our control. Somewhere along the line, after beautiful strike offs of fabric with no misspellings were approved, the fabric was adjusted for production and the error was made. As you know we are “sophisticated, cute, and a wee bit cheeky.” Well unfortunately sophisticated has been misspelled this time. But as always, there is good, plenty of good, that can come from mistakes. We sat here in Good Hart, Michigan thinking, what do we do? Do we keep them boxed up in our warehouse where they will never see the love of a little girl or anyone? Or, do we make lemonade from lemons? If you know us, you know what we decided to do.

The Say It Sweetly Dress will be offered tomorrow for 25$  with 15$ of the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

It’s such a sweet dress. We couldn’t let it go to waste. And I know you won’t all agree with this. I read Facebook and I comment on your photos. I read how you feel everyday. But sometimes you gotta go with your gut. And our guts are telling us this is a big opportunity to help one of our favorite causes and a chance for your girls to still wear an adorable dress. And as always, a chance for us to grow and learn.

Consider it. Think about it. I’ll be thinking about it too. And I’ll be reading your thoughts along the way.

LOVE ALWAYS,
SAM

Accidents happen! I ordered this super cute dress for my daughter. Not only because it looks super soft but also because of the donation to Habitat. I think it’s a win win! Thank you everyone for all of your hard work and dedication :) We’re all human <3

Hi Sam….quit reading the FB comments :-) . I think you all are great and we all make mistakes. Please…if I didn’t have spell check, I would be totally lost!!! Ha! I think this dress is adorable and I love that it is going to a good cause. Your company is the most generous company I know of and I am happy to support it. Just hope I get my dress before they sell out :-) .

Love this sweet dress and got it for my little one and did see about some of the proceeds going to habitat for humanity that makes me excited!!!!

I think a lot of the negative comments are because of the lack of acknowledgment in regards to the defects on a lot of the Good Hart pieces (uneven leg lengths, upside down birds, holes after 1 wash, etc.). Honestly is always the best policy! Taking responsibility and turning it into a positive, like this blog, is awesome and respectful. Everyone makes mistakes, it’s how you go about them that make or break you :)

I’m so thankful you decided to still sell this dress… For one, I got to give to a good cause and two, we still have an adorable dress on the way! “Unpredictable” right? Life is unpredictable! Thanks MJ for making a mistake an opportunity to reach out and for my dd to have a beautiful dress to play in! I’m thankful for you all!

Alison - May 16, 2013 - 2:09 pm

Just out of curiosity, what is the defect? There’s a lot of talk about a defect but nobody is saying what it is. Just wondering why. Thanks.

Denise - May 16, 2013 - 2:56 pm

Hi, Alison. The word “sophisticated” appears in the print as “sophistieated.”

Niki - May 16, 2013 - 3:41 pm

What a great idea!!! How can I order this dress!!! :-)

Alison - May 16, 2013 - 9:28 pm

Denise,
Thanks. :) I guess it helps to read the blog entry a little bit better. :) Cute dress despite the defect.
