We are so excited for the new year and all the opportunities that it brings! Although we are looking at the wintery whites here in Fort Wayne, IN we canβt help but close our eyes and see the beauty of spring. From the endless blue skies to the rain showers that turn into May flowers; beauty, joy and opportunity is everywhere- all of this and more was just what inspired our Spring 2016 collection, Happy and Free!

With this collection, we sought to capture the special kind of happiness, creativity and freedom one finds in spring and spending time with your favorite people. We wanted to bring those sweet memories to life with gorgeous colors, beautiful prints and sweet silhouettes. These pretty pieces have been designed down to every little detail for any occasion that comes your way this season. A Matilda Jane gal, no matter what age, is creative, beautiful, smart, generous, sweet, thoughtful, a wee bit cheeky and so much more and we hope these pieces will only create new memories to look back at in the future.

Growing up we had a wonderful antique candy store that would sell “penny candy!” When mom would say we were going to Baldinger’s, we would all get so excited! They sold candy from all over the world! I remember getting that little brown bag and filling it with penny candy and then going home and sharing with my brothers and sisters!

My favorite candy growing up was salt water taffy. I loved to go to Gatlinburg with my dad and watch them pull and stretch the taffy with the old fashioned machines. We would buy a bag and just walk and chat… Good memories.

We have a local candy store we love to stop at for a special treat. It’s been around since 1907, and it really brings back memories of my childhood when I take my children there. They have a big selection of candies (Holly loves the gummy butterflies and Carson loves the edible Legos)…They make their own chocolate and caramel (their turtles and caramel apples are amazing)…but my favorite thing is their ice cream parlor & soda fountain…I love their hot fudge sundaes! They were a special treat to have as a child, and I still enjoy them today! ?

My grandmother used to make us Kix Men– basically Rice Krispy treats but made with Kix and caramel instead of marshmallows. They were delicious and I still remember coating our hands with butter and making them into balls. So much fun!

Peeps! When we would visit the farm where my dad grew up my great-aunt always had peeps waiting for me and my sisters. Every time I see Peeps I always remember my childhood growing up on the weekends at the farm.

I grew up in Australia, and I remember the excitement of getting 50 cents to go and purchase a little white paper bag filled with the prettiest pastel treats- pink, yellow, mint green and tangerine- and then the teeth aches after from just a little too much sugar!
