Just a few months ago we partnered with Sandi Gentry of The Sandbucket for a special project: to send a Matilda Jane dress around the world. The most recent destination on this journey was London, England. Read on to find out about life across the pond!

Living in London we get a lot of visitors, so we get to play tour guide around London regularly. I could do it with my eyes closed, but in a town as beautiful and charming as London who would want to do that? Today was a girls day out, with my daughter, Madeleine, wearing the dress-around-the-world dress we took to the town. It was a bit wet when we left the house, so it seemed fitting to pair the dress with none other than Britain’s finest footwear, wellington boots! We got on the train and headed straight to the heart of London to see what every tourist should see first, Big Ben!

No matter how many times I see this stunning clock tower and the accompanying Houses of Parliament, it never fails to take my breath away. We arrived just before 9 o’clock, in time to hear the clock strike nine times. Many clocks the world over attempt to recreate the sound of Big Ben’s chimes, but there is nothing like standing at the base of the original hearing the real thing!

From here we walked passed Westminster Abbey and up Whitehall, with a nod to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street, finally arriving at Trafalgar Square. From here we wandered back into the streets of the west end, and did some window shopping in and around Covent Garden in the heart of the theatre district. Of course we had to make a stop at Cecil Court to browse some of London’s best old book shops. My book-loving girl, who never leaves the house without a book, felt right at home on this street and even pulled out her own book to stop for a reading break. She’d have stayed there reading all afternoon if I let her!

No tour through London would be complete without tea service, so we ended our tour with a mother daughter tea treat at Ladurée.
