Hi everyone, I’m Darci and I am one of the Senior Designers here at Matilda Jane Clothing. I may not be a familiar face to some of you, but I feel like I know you all through the many beautiful photos you send us of you and your daughters. My journey here at Matilda Jane Clothing started just about 7 months ago, and it has been nothing but a whirlwind of sweetness since the beginning. It is hard to believe just how quickly time has flown! There are so many wonderful things about Matilda Jane that drew me in, and I feel lucky that I get the privilege of designing pieces that are a part of the many sweet, crazy, and wonderful moments that life brings our way.
Apparently my family knew all along that I was going to be a designer…but they forgot to mention that to me! My interest in design began when I was just four years old. My mother was a big inspiration. She designed costumes for theater productions, and I remember taking those leftover scraps of fabric and creating magic with them (well, at least it was magic to me—haha). I started sewing when I was 5, and it didn’t stop there. I began making my own patterns and entering design competitions as I got older. When I went to college, I decided to study interior design, but fashion once again caught my attention.

My school’s Design Department hosted a recycled fashion show, and I decided to give a try just for fun. That experience sparked my interest, and from that point on I knew that fashion design was my true passion. I haven’t looked back since! I spent time designing all kinds of different things (swimsuits, children’s clothing, and even doll clothes!) and found that my true love is working in natural fabrics and for a company with such a wonderful mission!
These brands helped me find what I wanted to focus my energy on, but Matilda Jane had everything that I loved about these companies and more! It’s such a unique and special place. When I learned the story behind this incredible world that Denise created, it just felt right. I could see my two little girls in MJC’s beautiful designs, and I felt the love that this company was built on.
The tween and women’s lines are my life here at Matilda Jane Clothing, and there is nothing better than having the privilege of creating pieces for you and your daughters. The tween line was such a huge draw for me. There aren’t a ton of options out there that are both stylish and age appropriate for our tween and teen girls. As much as they are 8 going on 25, us moms know that they are still our little girls, and we want to keep them happy, age appropriate, and stylish as long as possible. My 2-year-old and 5-year-old definitely keep me on my toes, but they also remind me every day of the magic and beauty that I hope to create in the pieces here at Matilda Jane.

To me, it is all about how these designs are going to make you and your daughters feel. Unique, pretty, stylish, and comfortable are just a few of the adjectives that are of huge importance when I design. I am so excited to continue to work with the fabulous Matilda Jane design team to see these ideas come to life, and to be a part of those special moments in your family’s life now and for many seasons to come.

I’m so impressed that you started sewing at age 5! You have a beautiful family 🙂
I love so many of the tween and women’s pieces (I order some 435 for myself!). My collection is being built a bit more slowly than my daughter’s, though.
Nice to learn more about you and your history! Your family is beautiful! We love MJC for many of the same reasons and are excited to see what else is around the corner! Please consider creating a knot top or dress that comes in bigger sizes (10 or 12). My daughter loves this style, but our options are very limited! Thank you!
Welcome!
Love Darci! Your family is so cute too.
It’s always fun to read the MJ staff bios! I have to say, we are not a big fan of the tween line lately. I would just like to say that I know a lot of young ladies who would be interest in more girly, less “adult” looking styles.
