Name The Dress Thursday: #15

We are back with another Name The Dress Thursday!

This week we have a very cheery tiered ellie

This gal has more character than I can handle:)Can’t wait to see what you come up with

Tiered Ellie sizes: 4 & 6

Leave us a comment with your suggestion of the perfect name for this dress, and we’ll choose a winner and announce it here on the blog tomorrow! If your name is chosen, we’ll send you this dress in the size of your choice (sizes listed above)! I can’t wait to hear all of your suggestions!

Happy naming

<3 Melissa

*One little house-keeping note: since there are so many people leaving comments, there is always the chance that more than one person may suggest the same name. If we choose a name that has been suggested by more than one person, we will only be able to select the first person to suggest the name as the winner. But never fear! There will be sooo many more contests and chances for winning, so don’t give up!*

My name choice for this dress is Mary.
There are so many elements in this gorgeous dress. Goldilocks, the three bears, the three little pigs, little red riding hood, elephants and above all – the hearts. Mary is my mother-in-law who is like a mother to me. I am fortunate and grateful to be so close to her. In addition she is amazing at reading stories to my kids. Listening to her read makes me want to sit down next to her and snuggle in to listen. These fairy tales are ones that she reads to my children and thus, I couldn’t think of a more deserving person to name this dress after.

Melissa Pomeranz - January 17, 2013 - 2:45 pm

Lollifant is my other suggestion. What we all call elephants in our family as children, and what my 84 yro grandmother still calls them… You should see her collection of jade and ivory elephants. 63 years of marriage, my papa gave her one every anniversary. He passed in November. We bought the Norma for his memorial. <3

“Elmer”
-named after the children’s book ELMER by David McKee

Elmer the elephant has bright-colored patchwork all over. The other elephants laugh at him. If he was a normal shade of grey like other elephants that would make them stop laughing. That would make Elmer feel better, wouldn’t it?
Elmer the elephant, is a colorful character because of his patchwork hide and sense of humor, tries to blend in with the herd, but soon realizes that he’s happiest just being himself.

(Just be yourself) <3

or

Both are from Rudyard Kipling’s “The Elephant’s Child”. The story is a folktale which takes place in Africa and tells a story of how elephants got their very long trunks.

Water for elephants is one of my favorite books. Seeing the circus in those days was a BIG deal!! And it’s funny, because when I took my kids to see the Ringling circus recently I was amazed at how many older couples were also there to see the circus.

Anyway back to the name, “Rosie” is the elephant in that book and I think that describes this dress perfectly :) It is bright and cheery and all around beautiful!!

So no one else has probably heard of the musician Henry Mancini (big band) but he had a song that was famous in the 70′s or 80′s called Baby Elephant Walk.. my parents would force us to listen to it on the 8 track on the car! Song was bright cheerful and reminiscent of elephants marching…I thought of it immediately when I saw this happy dress. my vote is either
1. Baby Elephant March
2. Mancini..

Modoc [Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived by Ralph Helfer. (1998) Modoc is the joint biography of a man and an elephant born in a small German circus town on the same day in 1896. Bram was the son of an elephant trainer, Modoc the daughter of his prize performer. The boy and animal grew up devoted to each other. When the Wunderzircus was sold to an American, with no provision to take along the human staff, Bram stowed away on the ship to prevent being separated from his beloved Modoc.]

— It’s the start of the chorus to a lullaby called “Dear Jessie” (sung by Madonna). The dress brought the song to mind….

The first thing that came to mind was “Children’s Laughter”. The dress is so cheery, bright, and full of love and light, that the feeling that I got when I looked at it was like the heart warming feeling I get when I hear my little girl giggle on and on. Some of my after thoughts were “Pitter Patter” because of the hearts on it and the way I feel my heart do little flip flops when I picture her wearing this dress and running and laughing. Last thought, “Four Happiness”, it’s a play on words (it’s the name of a Chinese dish) but I ,think of the four very distinct, bright, happy fabrics and, it could also mean “for happiness” as in, wearing this dress, will bring a lot of happiness. Hope that isn’t too corny…this dress inspired a lot of fond thoughts for me! Love it!

I Heart Ruby
I chose this name in honor of Ruby the elephant. She was an Asian elephant who was most famous for her paintings. She was seen doodling in the dirt with her trunk and as soon as she was given a brush and some paint her creativity flourished and she began creating amazing artwork. Ruby is an inspiration to all little girls to follow their hearts and creativity. I am sure that people didn’t ever think an elephant could be an artist, but Ruby followed her heart and let her creativity take over, and this is an important message that we all can learn from this sweet little elephant. That is why I Heart Ruby!

Upon returning home from our recent stay at Kidani village at Disney where we enjoyed the peaceful serenity of the African animals, I was alarmed and saddened to read about the single worst loss of elephants on record. On January 15, 2013 poachers attacked a family of elephants (11 adults & 1 calf) in Tsavo East National Park in Kenya for their ivory. When I saw this dress I instantly thought of the tragedy and hope that one day humans can peacefully co-exist with elephants in Africa in an environment like the one represented in the fabrics used for this dress (love, harmony, & elephants.)

“Jambo Elliefun Wonderland” Jambo means hello in Swahili, which is Kenya’s native language. :)
