Name the Dress Thursday: Edition 3

I can’t believe it’s that time again…time for the THIRD Name the Dress Thursday!

In our Facebook poll last week, there was tons of love for the peasant dress to be featured here. As it turned out, we didn’t have any peasant dresses in for this week’s blog, but you definitely got the wheels turning for a future Name the Dress! What we DO have this week, is probably my favorite Knot Dress since the Birthday Girl Knot! (I may even be storing one of these away for a very, very future daughter of my own.)

I can’t wait to hear your ideas on what to name this sweet little lady….

Knot Dress Sizes: 18 month, 2, 4, 6

Leave us a comment with your suggestion of the perfect name for this dress, and we’ll choose a winner and announce it here on the blog tomorrow! If your name is chosen, we’ll send you this dress in the size of your choice (sizes listed above)! I can’t wait to hear all of your suggestions!

love, desi

*One little house-keeping note: since there are so many people leaving comments, there is always the chance that more than one person may suggest the same name. If we choose a name that has been suggested by more than one person, we will only be able to select the first person to suggest the name as the winner. But never fear! There will be sooo many more contests and chances for winning, so don’t give up!*

I missed the boat last week, but I think it would be amazing for our MJ community to honor the life of Amber Roussell one more time. Amber passed recently due to a car accident caused by another driver. Our MJ Community pulled together to raise money, hopes, and dreams for the Roussell family. Ambers husband, son, and daughter Emmie were her life.
Ambers:
Ambers Heart
Ambers Party
Ambers Affair

Emmie:
Emmies Angel
Sweet Emmie Claire
Emโ€™s celebration
Emโ€™s Hullabaloo
Emโ€™s Jubilee

Amber/Emmie Combo: โ€œEmberโ€
Embers Love
Ember Frolic

If you choose my name, I would love for you to send a dress to Emmie, in honor of her Mom and to let her know there are lots of mamaโ€™s out there sending love her way.

Charlie’s Secret

based a savvy feline character, loved twice over, in the book “Charlie Anderson.”

“Charlie Anderson” is a story about two sisters, Elizabeth and Sarah, who adopt a cat who appears on their doorstep in the evenings–but never during the day. Soon he is sleeping on their beds and answering to the name of Charlie. When their Charlie doesn’t doesn’t come one night, they discover that he lives in a house with a family on the other side of the woods, where he is called Anderson. They end up calling the cat “Charlie Anderson,” and realize that he, like Elizabeth and Sarah, “has two houses, two beds, two families who love him.”

Kristi Glissen - October 11, 2012 - 1:06 pm

I think the dress should be named “Monet” or “The Monet”. I immediately thought about Claude Monet and his well-known painting called “Water Lillies” when I saw this dress. Claude Monet was a French Impressionist painter and this dress reminds me of many of his famous works.

Alyssa C - October 11, 2012 - 1:13 pm

The colors in this dress remind me of a beautiful Impressionist painting that is bursting with color. So in a nod to my favorite Impressionist artist, perhaps a name like “Monet” or “Giverny”, where the Artists Garden was located (hmm, “Artists Garden” would be a great name too). Or “Nymphรฉas”, for the famous water lilies paintings.

Love the sweet dress and can’t wait to find out its name! It’s so fun to read the creative names everyone comes up with!

The Judy Garland…the dress reminds me of the yellow brick road and the field of poppies that made Dorothy fall asleep on her way to Oz. “De Colores”
It reminds me of the beautiful colors of a rainbow, flower fields and butterflies. Then my mind went to the phrase “de Colores.” it’s a phrase heard in the Christian communities of the Emmaus walk and Chrysalis. They are both gatherings of Christians that are filled with encouragement and building of your faith and relationship with Christ. My mom went on one of the weekend retreats and 20 years later she still brings out her cards and memories from the weekend and all of them are brightly colored, filled with rainbows and beautiful encouragements.

Well, my first thought was that the dress looked like a watercolor painting. So after looking up famous water color painters I found the name “Georgia O’Keeffe”. And after reading more about her she was born in my state, Wisconsin, in 1887! So her name seemed even more fitting. So my suggestion for the dress is “Georgia”!

When I look at this dress I see a warm, friendly little girl with a huge heart wearing it! According to the urban dictionary a Evie is a beautiful kind hearted girl, she puts her friends and families needs before herself. A unique name and a unique personality, her eyes are a color of beauty and she makes friends wherever she goes and knows how to make people laugh and smile.

With that I think this dress should be called……..

‘Miss Poly’ from ‘Pollyanna,’ the children’s classic by Eleanor H. Porter. The name I would suggest for the dress is the “Monet Sunset Dress”. Its colors remind me of the use of colors by the impressionists. Monet was probably the most well known of the French impressionists and this dress reminds me of his work.

**In 1951 Palmer Paint introduced the Craft Master brand which sold over 12 million kits. This public response induced other companies to produce their own versions of paint by number. The Craft Master paint-kit box tops proclaimed, “A BEAUTIFUL OIL PAINTING THE FIRST TIME YOU TRY.” Following the death of Max Klein in 1993, his daughter, Jacquelyn Schiffman, donated the Palmer Paint Co. archives to the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Cora Daisy – My grandmother. A simple, pretty name with an old fashioned flair. “Maiden of the daisies”. Flowers, cats, fabric. All things that make me think of my grandmother. Of course, every Matilda Jane dress reminds me of sewing with my grandmother. She has always grown the most beautiful flowers and one of my favorite memories is learning to pot plants with her.

Kertyschoo – My favorite word in The Tail of Peter Rabbit. This dress makes me think of the book.

Beatrix’s Potter – The dress makes me think of a garden. The book that comes to mind is A Tale of Peter Rabbit. This is a little play on the author’s name and it is the perfect dress for playing in the potting shed with grandma. My daughter loves to hide the seeds in her pockets.

“Flowers for Zoe”

Lenny Kravitz wrote this in 1988 as a lullaby for his daughter, Zoe. The song tells a story of a little girl’s home of paradise, filled with flowers, angels, rainbows, gardens, oceans, jungle gym playgrounds and other treasures.

I would now add MJC to that fantastically happy list!

I have a new baby! Since you love this as much as the birthday knot, how about naming this one after my new daughter, in honor of her ‘birth’ day!?!? I’m the proud new mama to Harper Anne. You could name the dress Harper Anne, and she can wear her dress for her first birthday party. (Ps – I’ve already put her in a Gypsy Blue 6 month kimono dress, lol. It looked great with big sister’s Cupcake dress)

Huckleberry’s Splash

This dress reminded me of the mischievous way’s of the Kitty Huckle from the animated children’s series Busytown — a finger painting of sorts, signed by images of Huckle and friends at the bottom.

The first thing i thought when i saw this dress was a palette of paint, not just any palette but Monet’s:) So i suggest:Monet, Giverny, Giverny Garden, Camille (after Monet’s wife Camille Doncieux), Best Friends, Yellow Rose (friendship flower), Mon Amie (my friend in french). That’s all i’ve got! Fingers crossed:)

As a final accolade, for a women in that time, the French government bought her painting. So I’ll name this dress “Eli Nourse” or “Nourse”.

Yesterday, October 11, 2012 was the United Nations’ first International Day of the Girl. Out of concern for human rights issues for girls and women around the world, their first report on the State of the World’s Girls 2012 describes baby Nargis, the seven billionth human to be born. She came into the world in 2011, in a poor part of rural India where girls have few opportunities in life. The report states that its aims and hopes for Baby Nargis are foremost to have the opportunity to get an educaiton, which is the key to a full life for girls the world over. I propose the dress be named BABY NARGIS, in honour of the world’s 7 billionth human and the UN’s first International Day of the Girl, which took place on October 11, 2012.
