“Flander’s Fields”- based on the famous WWI poem

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly…..

With all the beautiful colors in this dress and the elephants, this dress instantly made me think of Africa. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is an African musical group and the founder of the group was inspired by dreams in which a choir of children sang and danced. Such a festive holiday dress!

While it may be a holiday dress, the gorgeous poppy fabric reminds me of the bright, red Tuscan poppy fields that dominate the countryside in summer. It’s a breathtaking site to see rustic farmhouses enveloped by a sea of scarlet red, glimmering in the warm Tuscan sun. My suggestions for the name are Tuscan Countryside and Scarlett Fields.

I’d call it this as it looks like it has Holly Berries on the top, and each year we go to the Holidazzle parade to start the kick off for celebrating the Holidays! It also looks like the little animals are in a parade of their own too! :)

Jenn - October 25, 2012 - 6:10 pm

I can’t stop thinking about Chelsa, and all that the MJC staff has done to support her. SO, I did some research on the meaning/origin of Chelsa’s name. It means “a port for limestone or chalk”.

So I came up with “Port of Peace” for a dress name, in honor of Chelsa. Not only does it give a nod to the holiday theme (peace) but also it references a port, which is specific to the origin of the name Chelsa. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello! My name of choice for this gorgeous holiday dress would be: Clarabell. Clarabell was my Grandmother’s name and one I’ve always loved! When I think of my Grandmother, I often remember one winter evening when I was young. It was snowing outside and bitter cold. She and I baked cookies together and watched the snow pile up on the car just out the window! It’s one of my favorite holiday memories!! My daughter wears a size 8 or 10, but my friend has the cutest little redhead that this would look adorable on! I would guess she is in a 2 or a 4, so that would be the size I would choose if the name I suggested were chosen! Thanks for considering!

A Pocket Full of Posies

Andrea Wade - October 25, 2012 - 8:38 pm

Remembrance. Holidays in our family are about remembering not only what is present, but those special memories and traditions of the past. The poppy flower symbolizes rememberance. Plus those sweet little animals remind me of wooden toys of yesteryear.

Jennifer Leary - October 25, 2012 - 8:39 pm

How about “Louisa Mae”? My mother and grandmother were HUGE fans of Louisa Mae Alcott’s novel, Little Women. I have read that book several times myself, and the first chapter starts at Christmastime.

If I am lucky enough to get picked, I would need a size 2 or 6 (I have two little girls who would LOVE a Louisa Mae dress….:-)

“Gladys”

This dress is so vibrant and full of life with all of the blooming flowers and beautiful reds and pop of green. Thinking of its Christmas theme, it reminds me of the vibrance of Gladys Herdman…especially when she jumps up and yells “Shazzam” when announcing the birth of Jesus. The boldness of this dress definitely says “Shazzam”, too. MJ girls are described as a “wee bit cheeky”…that is Gladys to a “T”.

This dress immediately made me think of the upcoming (and much talked about) trip to Africa. So i linked together a few of the principals of Kwanzaa.

To make our collective vocation the building and developing of community.

Creativity: Kuumba (koo–OOM–bah)
To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

Tussie-Mussie

{The term tussie-mussie comes from the reign of Queen Victoria (1837–1901), when small bouquets became a popular fashion accessory. Typically, tussie-mussies include floral symbolism from the Language of Flowers, and therefore may be used to send a message to the recipient. A nosegay, tussie-mussie, or posy is a small flower bouquet, typically given as a gift.}
