Name the Dress Thursday: Edition 7

Can’t believe it’s already time again but it is Thursday and you know what that mean…Name the the Dress time!!

I know I say every week that the dress is adorable, but let’s be real, aren’t they all??!!?:)

I love this one because of all the warm colors and the pop of yellows and greens. This little lady is so fun, I can’t wait to pick a fun name for this one:)

Shasta Dress sizes: 2, 4, 6

Leave us a comment with your suggestion of the perfect name for this dress, and we’ll choose a winner and announce it here on the blog tomorrow! If your name is chosen, we’ll send you this dress in the size of your choice (sizes listed above)! I can’t wait to hear all of your suggestions!

Happy naming

<3 Melissa

*One little house-keeping note: since there are so many people leaving comments, there is always the chance that more than one person may suggest the same name. If we choose a name that has been suggested by more than one person, we will only be able to select the first person to suggest the name as the winner. But never fear! There will be sooo many more contests and chances for winning, so don’t give up!*

Marley!

As soon as I saw this dress Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds song popped in my head,

Rise up this mornin’,
Smiled with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, (“This is my message to you-ou-ou:”)

I know this is song is stuck in your head too!

Or “Hope” or “Emily” the birds remind me of the Emily Dickinson poem “Hope” is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul”. My favorite part of that poem is “And sweetest in the gale(storm) is heard”. Makes me think of everyone that is affected by Sandy right now, who have lost homes, loved ones, valuables….. Many who are still without power and bearing another storm on the way. The stories of hope and togetherness are AMAZING! You ladies are SOOO generous, always. Maybe some portion of this dress could go towards the relief effort of the victims of the hurricane who are still holding onto “Hope”

Clare

For John Clare, who wrote the poem “Autumn Birds”

The wild duck startles like a sudden thought,
And heron slow as if it might be caught.
The flopping crows on weary wings go by
And grey beard jackdaws noising as they fly.
The crowds of starnels whizz and hurry by,
And darken like a clod the evening sky.
The larks like thunder rise and suthy round,
Then drop and nestle in the stubble ground.
The wild swan hurries hight and noises loud
With white neck peering to the evening clowd.
The weary rooks to distant woods are gone.
With lengths of tail the magpie winnows on
To neighbouring tree, and leaves the distant crow
While small birds nestle in the edge below.

Birds of freedom…like from the story Freedom Bird by David Holt and Bill Mooney. It’s about a hunter who takes the life of a bird and places it in a box in a river…some children later find the box and when they open it, 100 golden birds fly out!! They are freedom birds! After the emotional election we just had…I think we can all should be thankful for freedom!!! <3

Lady-Bird or Lovely Lady-Bird

It made me think of the old nursey rhyme/ poem that dated back to 1744 but there have been some changes through out time . The verses talked about lady-birds.

“There were superstitious beliefs that it was unlucky to harm a ladybird, and that the verse would make them fly off. Another superstition states that you should chant the verse if a ladybird lands on you: if it then flies away again, your wish will come true.”

Good Luck to all.

This dress is INSPIRED: {Maybe that’s why I couldn’t decide on just one name for this perfect shasta this time around}:

* Treetop Twirl –because every little darling would certainly do a princess twirl the moment they put on this beauty!

* Carnival Song– the colors remind me of cotton candy, taffy, ferris wheels, and all the bright colors you’d see at a festive carnival.

* Enchanted Sunset–because I can just imagine the birds basking in the glow of the sunset, getting ready to take one last twirl through the trees, and sing one last song before night settles upon them.

I would name this dress Three Little Birds. It reminds me of the song of the same name by Bob Marley. You can’t help but smile, dance and swirl when you hear the lyrics.

“Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!”

Rise up this mornin’,
Smiled with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, (“This is my message to you-ou-ou:”)

Singin’: “Don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.”
Singin’: “Don’t worry (don’t worry) ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!”

After submitting my post earlier, I couldn’t get this poem out of my head…I could only remember bits and I couldn’t remember the poet, so I just googled it, and now I want to revise my previous comment. ;)

The Oven Bird by Robert Frost

There is a singer everyone has heard,
Loud, a mid-summer and a mid-wood bird,
Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again.
He says that leaves are old and that for flowers
Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten.
He says the early petal-fall is past
When pear and cherry bloom went down in showers
On sunny days a moment overcast;
And comes that other fall we name the fall.
He says the highway dust is over all.
The bird would cease and be as other birds
But that he knows in singing not to sing.
The question that he frames in all but words
Is what to make of a diminished thing.

Thus, I am changing my submission to The Oven Bird. I do realize this was Frost’s depressed mid life crisis poem, lol, but the analogies are awesome. The fact that it was on my mind all day, made me want to resubmit. :)

My brain does not think as creatively as so many others. This dress is so beautiful. Petals comes to my “uncreative” brain.

It is truly a treat to see the beautiful colors of fall this time off year. The birds migrating south must have an amazing view!
