Sale, Quality, and Africa

Thanks to everyone who participated in the “MJC Says Thanks” sale this past weekend.  We’re so happy that so many of you were able to pick up pieces that complete or compliment your previous Fall 2012 purchases.  Needless to say, we’ll all be busy packing these orders up and getting them to your doorstep in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.  Our goal is to have your order on its way to you before December.  We actually worked overtime this past weekend and got a good jump on packing and shipping.

Some of you have been asking for more information regarding the Winter Line released on November 1st and the lack of quality that some of your pieces seem to suffer from. Let us first begin by telling you that we are sorry and embarrassed if you received a piece that does not live up to MJC standards. It was in no way our intention to sell such an item to you. What we thought were the only quality issues, we publicly announced and, as you know, decided to turn that negative into a positive by discounting those two items and turning the event into a very worthwhile fundraiser. However, if you received any other pieces that lack in the usual MJC quality, please accept our apology and do not hesitate to return any item from the Holiday collection that you are not happy with. While there is no “excuse” for any defective items getting through quality control, it should be known that we had just started working with new manufacturers for this Winter Line. We’ve visited them on two different occasions and will certainly be enhancing our
quality control procedures with them to bring them up to the standards of our other manufacturers. We of course will still be working with our standard manufacturers but at the same time, will be developing higher quality control standards with our new manufacturers.   Again, if you happened to receive an item that is not MJC quality, I’m sorry. Please send it back for a full refund or a worthy replacement.

Finally, Thanksgiving is just three days away.  And on Friday this week 20+ MJC gals are off to Kenya Africa to start the orphanage build with Chicks for Children.  We are all so excited, as you can imagine.  We’ll actually be forming bricks, by hand,  out of mud and sand and water….and I’m not sure what else….and these hand-made bricks will be used to build the orphanage and give a home to so many kids who need one.  We’ll be sure to give you all of the details when we get back!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

Thank you so much for addressing this and for your transparent heart while doing so. I just posted on your FB under Recycledeye Candy, I was just tired of all the negativity. I always try to post that you guys are always willing to make things right.`I know your heart and have fortunately been a part of this world for 5 years now. Thanks again.

I agree that the negative comments need to stop. Just like any company you purchase from all you need to do is call the company and they will make things right. You don’t need to add extra complaints for everyone to see….anyway, Have a Happy Thanksgiving too!

i ordered every single piece from the winter line and all of the clothes that i received are perfect. if they hadn’t have been up to the usual matilda jane standard i would have contacted my trunk keeper first, not blabbed about it on facebook. i had no idea that there was a problem until i read this. thank you for making such beautiful clothing for my daughters! every time i get a package from you it’s like Christmas!

As a customer, I really appreciate the way MJC has handled the quality issues and turned it into something positive for others in need. However, in my opinion, it is risky to trust a major or line release to any new manufacturers. In the end, not only MJC’s reputation could be impacted, but also the customers who love your clothing and look up to your quality. Perhaps MJC can start with really small releases with reasonable pricing with these new manufacturers. This would be easier to manage should there be any problems. The recent product quality is just unacceptable and people are anxious about washing these new collections.

Thank you MJC ~ I’m glad to see you are addressing these issues head on. It was brought to my attention that you were not accepting the responsibility, but rather passing the buck and blaming your manufacturer in China. A major company like yours needs to take responsibility for their choices and for the quality control before a shipment of this size and anticipation, is sent to its customers. It appears to me, that you are trying to make things right and do just that in this post, and I’m pleased to see it.

As someone who has spent weeks in China and has a fondness for the people of that nation and the culture, I was taken aback by all of the snide and snarky remarks bashing the Chinese people, that were appearing on various MJC resale boards across FB. And considering our youngest is adopted from there, it is no secret that this land holds a special place in our hearts. So it was hard not to take these comments personally, and I was hoping and praying that MJC would step up ASAP and own responsibility for the quality control issues and oversight on their part and stop blaming China, before this exploded any more than it already has.

I have been purchasing MJC for over 3 year now, and have always loved the various releases that come out every season. I unfortunately was a recipient of some of the defective pieces from the winter line, and it really is tragic for the company name, to see such quality issues on such a large scale quantity. The photos being posted were very disturbing and I have no doubt that you were mortified by them, as well. I’m sure this is a nightmare for MJC, to say the least.

My hope is that in receiving the returns and issuing refunds, that MJC will take this one step further and issue shipping costs to be included in those refunds, as the level of defects are beyond okay and not the fault of the customers returning them. We are having to pay shipping both ways for defective items that are out of our control, and I would hope there is some compensation for that. Moreso, I hope that complete ownership of this problem is taken by MJC and not passed onto the manufacturer. It is more easily forgiven when ownership is taken of mistakes, rather than excuses made. And as much as we love and support MJC, we truly hope that history does not repeat itself with future lines.

I really think the winter line is just adorable but yeah I was quite disappointed with the quality. I really love the items but am too worried about sending them back and not being able to exchange them for the same item so I’m trying to trade down a size(or two). I really adored the 2 discounted items but yeah those sizes were completely off compared to the actual size of the item but I bought them at a discount so I don’t get why people would even complain about them. Wish you gals would manufacture in the US to be able to better control quality and also guarantee better labor conditions for their workers
