All Tied up in Knots, Matilda Jane Knots

…and I am loving this lots and lots . Gosh who doesn’t love that movie “That Thing You do”? Seriously, I love Shades and I love Liv Tyler.

Lots of cleaning going on around here as we start turning the old cutting room into the Design/Development Office. Sounds fancy huh? Ok, well, it really is just mine and Sam’s office. If we are super lucky we may even get a table with 6 chairs (aka Conference Table). That would certainly mean we are big time!

I found the above sketches as I was emptying out some drawers. Totally took me back in time. These are from I think my first Trunk show line ever. I remember knowing in my head it had to be simple, black and white and something we could just make simple photo copies of. It had to be cheap or David would kill me.  We were still on the edge of “should we do trunk shows” or “should I follow my love of art fairs”.  Oh, those were big decisions.  Well, until Lynette asked me to lunch. Or,maybe I asked her. Anyways we went to lunch. She was still working at the job I had recently quit.

Lots has happened since that day. Lots.  And together we truly made Matilda Jane into something beyond our dreams. When we first started selling Knot Dresses it was very common to get a phone call from a customer letting us know she received a dress without the buttons sewn on. Oh, there was a few that could not understand it was meant to be that way. It was called a Knot Dress for that reason. Thinking back on it, it was so funny. A gal at an Art Fair once said, she could just not buy a dress without buttons on the straps cuz her husband would just not approve it.

That dress, that dang Knot Dress!!  I am so partial to it because it really was my very first piece I made the pattern to all by myself. I was just starting to use a new seamstress and doing some of my own cutting. I realized I would never have time to sew buttons on all these straps before the weekend’s Art Fair. I knew I had to sell a ton to pay our bills, so I just took them and tied knots. Chris was a little confused, but I sold her on the idea.  Wow, those were the days! And  it is still is one of may favorite pieces to make, and the same ladies that sewed the original one back years ago still sew the ones you get off Platinum! They are truly experts by now. Oh, and one more secret..the signature brown label on the back? It was not my idea, when I went to pick them up, Chaing said “Denise, your label is much too pretty to hide on the inside. let’s use it on the outside”.  And then she showed me what where she sewed them all and I was in love!

So let me ask, when did you buy your first Matilda Jane Knot Dress? And which one was it or was it a super early no-name piece? And, cuz I really want to know this, and contests always make you comment, we will randomly pick 10 of you for one of our favorites!

I didn’t buy a knot dress, but a knot top. My very first was from my very first MJC trunk show I went to. My daughter was 10mths old and I got a Skye knot top. She had her 1 yr pictures taken in it. I loved it. I will NEVER EVER sell it! It is the one piece I will forever keep and cherish. It is what got me hooked on MJC too. My first real knot top was the daisy knot though.

taylor jackson - November 20, 2011 - 7:49 pm

Gypsey blue knot dress!!!! I bought it for both girls & it’s all time favorite because it matches so much! we wore it as a big dress, shorter dress, then onto a top. I don’t think i have ever gotten my moneys worth out of a piece as i did that one!

Kelly Hall - November 20, 2011 - 7:50 pm

Our first knot dress was the Leona! I love it so much that I’ve even purchased knot dresses for our Bambos! I will definitely be getting more knots for my DD!

Cortney - November 20, 2011 - 7:50 pm

My first knot dress was the Chelsa knot dress. I hadn’t purchased any of your clothing and thought I’d give it a try. It didn’t hurt that some of the proceeds went for the Little Sparrow Foundation. I figured if It wasn’t what I thought it’d be, at least some of the money I had spent went towards something wonderful! Little did I know……. you should see my daughter’s closet now!

Kelly Gorney - November 20, 2011 - 7:50 pm

Well, I am a late comer, I suppose. Our first knot was the Felicia Knot from Sugarland. Since then…well, since then we’ve made quite a dent in MJ! Haha! My daughter and I are both hopelessly in love. Thanks for making some awesome pieces!!!

Sarah S - November 20, 2011 - 7:50 pm

I think it was the Abbi knot, and my daughter was 2 (now 4 and a half). And knots are still my all time favorite Matilda Jane items!

Vanessa Howell - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

My first was the Chelsa Knot for the Sparrow Foundation! My little one still wears it and it is one of my husband’s favorites so whenever he dresses her, she mostly likely is wearing it! I thought the idea of you giving money to charity if I purchased the dress was fantastic and I was immediately in love with my first knot!

emily - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

Gracie May!Thats what started it all.

Alisha Puckett - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

Art Fair 2011 for our first knot DRESS. We had the Alice knot as our first “knot”

Meghan Stowers - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

I bought my first knot dress from the Online Art Fair a few years back. It was called “Little Tomato”, and I bought it because my daughter LOVES tomatoes. I had been a customer for at least a year before that, but for whatever reason had no knot dresses in her closet. She still wears it, although she must wear ruffles or leggings with it now, or it just isn’t as “appropriate” as it once was :)

Thanks Denise!

Sarah S - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

I think it was the Abbi knot, and my daughter was 2 (now 4 and a half). And knot dresses are still my all time fave MJC items!!

Abby - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

I bought our first knot dress in August of 2010 when my daughter was barely one! It was an Art Fair knot that I purchased gently loved from Ebay! I loved that dress and loved the bright colors, soft easy style and girlie charm of it! Brilliant move, Denise! <3

Mom_to_Maddy - November 20, 2011 - 7:51 pm

9/17/2008 to be exact :) My very first show I went too and have been hooked ever since. I bought the Abbi knot for my daughter and niece. Loved that one.

Lisa Beard - November 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

I bought my first knot dress September 2010. It was the ” forget me knot”. Still one of my favorites. The colors are perfect!!:).

mary elizabeth pounders - November 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

Our first knot was the HB pepper, almost 2 years ago. Thus began my love affair w/MJ. Actually, it’s still one of our fave pieces, and we have gotten 2 years wear out of it….

Kari - November 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

My little Anya’s first knot dress was the Rosemary Knot. We’re MJ newbies & have just fallen in love this past February. I swear MJ needs to come with a handbook, because I had 400 questions that needed to be answered on platinum and no one to turn to. One day I was browsing the platinum site and BAM it went up. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO! Well I did the obvious and snatched Rosemary up … We still have her and we’re still adding, so Thanks =)

Tisha Burns - November 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

I just found MJ last spring; I went to Art Fair with a friend and fell in love. Our first knot dress came from there & I don’t know the name! Knot dresses are our favorites :) thanks for all you do; you and the ladies of Matilda Jane are truly an inspiration!

Amanda Boyd - November 20, 2011 - 7:52 pm

We are fairly new MJC fans so our first knot dress was the Katherine knot from Field Trip! I love that when I bought it, it was a long dress and now, 1 1/2 years later, with a simple knot tie adjustment it is such a cute knot top on my girl! We wore the Sparkletown knot today to church! Love Love LOVE!!

Laura A. - November 20, 2011 - 7:53 pm

My first knot dress AND MJ purchase was the Gypsy Blue Museum Dress. That was at least 3 years ago… and my daughter is STILL wearing it!

melanie finnegan - November 20, 2011 - 7:53 pm

I bought my first knot dress about 2 years ago, when my baby girls was still too small for them. Loved them so much. Tullah was our first dress and Bailey our first top!! She has worn her 18 month bailey since she was 6 months and still does!

Kim Eubanks - November 20, 2011 - 7:53 pm

My first knot dress for my sweet Stella Rain was the Percy Knot. I’ve only been buying since May of this year, but I am in love with all of your pieces! Beautiful work!

Mom_to_Maddy - November 20, 2011 - 7:53 pm

9/17/2008 to be exact :) my very first trunk show I attended. I have been hooked ever since. I bought both my niece and daughter the Abbi knot. Loved that one.

Missy L - November 20, 2011 - 7:53 pm

Our first ever knot was either the Katherine Knot or the platinum MaryAnne Knot (I can’t remember which), from fall 2010. LOVED both!

Michelle Silvera - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

I purchased my first knot dress from the 2011 art fair. My daughter wore it for her 1st day of preschool and got so many compliments. When she wears that knot dress it brings back many special memories from the art fair and the special friendships we made. I dont believe the knot dress had a name it was made in the US so I assume it was a custom piece of art.

Misty T. - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

Ohhhh, I remember it like it was yesterday. My now almost 5 year old’s first knot dress was the fern in pink. It was about 2 sizes too big on her (she really needed a 12m, but all I could get was a size 2.) It was from the first huge online sale you had and I stayed up half the night hoping it would load. After I went to bed and got up the next morning, I missed the load by about 30 minutes but was lucky enough to snag this beauty. Thus began my luck of always missing out by about 30 minutes, hahahah! I was so excited when it arrived I even wrote a blog entry about it.
http://beanitude.blogspot.com/2009/01/it-been-awhile.html

We’ve been in love with all things MJ ever since. Even my son gets into it with the MA pieces and straightee pants.

Lora Prince - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

My daughter’s first knot was the Westside Cow Knot Dress and it remains my favorite to this day! It’s what got me hooked on MJC!!!!

Laura A. - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

My first knot dress and MJ purchase was the Gypsy Blue Museum Dress. That was like 3 years ago… and my daughter is still wearing it!

ashley stamper - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

Can I say my first piece was from the Cleo and Dot?!

After that I fell in love with the Hammond Bay Line, and the Skye Knot <3 <3 <3 it!! I still have it, and it doesn't fit either of my girls anymore 😉 I will never get rid of it.
oh, and I am from Ft. Wayne….so that helped with the discovery :)

Linsey - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

We have 2 little boys but we’re trying to conceive baby #3, so ya never know, maybe someday I’ll get to buy one of the fabulous knots!!! :)

Kristi S. - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

I could only dream of having an older or Art Fair knot! Our first Knot Dress was bought from someone else, the Back to School Felina Knot.
Knot Dresses are the best! Don’t ever quit making them- please!

Christina - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

The Dandy Knot dress was the first knot dress I bought and it was my very first piece of Matilda Jane ever. I purchased it at the very first trunk show I went to when I was 6 months pregnant with my first daughter. I use to joke that I had a girl so I could buy Matilda Jane! My daughter is now 3, but I still have that tiny knot dress saved, it’s something I could NEVER part with. :)

Emily Edwards - November 20, 2011 - 7:54 pm

Nichole Schrock - November 20, 2011 - 7:56 pm

I think the Anticipation Phoney Knot was my first knot dress…still have it today….LOVE IT!! we have worn it big, the right size and still as a tunic top…We LOVE IT!! I also have a fallish colored panel one…that I don’t know the name of that we bought big and we are still waiting to grow into it…super excited that we will be wearing that one for Thanksgiving…thank you for never moving past the things you originally made..even when you came up with new ideas along the way. The original Knot is what keeps me coming back. :)

Sarah Makinney - November 20, 2011 - 7:56 pm

The first knot dress I bought was the Gypsy Blue Museum, sz 8, for my oldest daughter. It was the most expensive piece of clothing I had ever purchased for her, but she is so picky and she saw it and loved it. My tomboy actually said she “loved a dress”. I had to get it, right? Well, she wore that dress with a tank, sometimes with jeans, the cocoa ruffles, tights, sometimes a long sleeve shirt. That dress was worn more than any other clothing, and still looked great when she passed it down to her sister, who has worn it just as much. I loved the knots because as my daughter grew, she could adjust the straps for that:)

angelam - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

Our first knot dress was the Eva Rose Tullah Twirl. It was the second piece of MJ I bought! When I put it on my daughter, she was transformed into a girl from Little House on the Prairie! Little half pint spun for hours in her dress! I wanted to let her run through the wheat fields with a bonnet trailing behind! I love how timeless these dresses are and how they turn a girl born in 2005 into a sweet innocent old fashioned girl from the Olden Days!!

Colleen Thomas - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

the first knot i bought was off of ebay……..it’s a platinum, not sure of the name of it……..but it is my daughters go to dress of choice……..we went to a “princess” theme party today, and she chose her Matilda Jane Knot…..she was the only girl not in a disney princess dress, and i asked her as we walked home, if she was upset that she was the only one not in a princess dress…lucy’s answers “but mom, i was!!!!!!” …love my girl!!!!!!!!

Nancy - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

Our very first knot dress was the Westside knot dress (cow print bodice) in early 2009. We’ve owned it in 3 different sizes!

cindy - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

The first knot dress was Anticipation Phone knot dress it was so beautiful not sure when it first came out but we LOVED it!

Sonia - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

I bought my first knot dress last year around Thanksgiving I believe since there must have been a promo around that time. The dress has an apron with a winter forest home scene.

Allison - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

Oh how I loved my first knot!! Hotline’s Mr Ollie was so sweet!

B - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

I’m a relatie newbie as my little one is only 2. My first was the Katherine Knot Dress. Love that dress and so sad she outgrew it. But we have many great pictures and even more happy memories of fun times in that dress!

Rechelle - November 20, 2011 - 7:57 pm

I honestly don’t remember the name of the dress, but it was from the Platinum site during the summer of 2008 (or was it 2009?). You’ll probably remember it if I describe it. Let’s see…it’s front and back panels are a small bird fabric in deep blue, the side panels are a pretty pink fabric, the bottom trim is yellow, and the ribbon looks like a black tape measure. It goes great with the Stephanie ruffles! Can you guess which knot dress it is?

Tisha Burns - November 20, 2011 - 7:58 pm

I just found MJ last spring, went to Art Fair with a friend and fell in LOVE! Our first knot dress came from there and I don’t know the name. Since then, knot dresses have became our favs. Thank you for all you do! You and all the ladies of Matilda Jane are truly an inspiration!

Jennifer - November 20, 2011 - 7:58 pm

Annethra Shreffler - November 20, 2011 - 7:59 pm

Nicole Nary - November 20, 2011 - 7:59 pm

Shannon - November 20, 2011 - 8:00 pm

Hi,

My very first knot dress was the Y&M Percy. I was very confused as to how to set up the straps when I got it. After calling my trunk keeper, we figured out that it was because it was missing the button holes! I shot you off an e-mail and was very surprised to have a replacement within a week (record time for a shipment to Canada)! Great customer service!!

Shannon

Lindsey Jordan - November 20, 2011 - 8:00 pm

I had to wait quite a while for my first knot, because I was dying for a platinum knot :) I sadly do not remember the name of it, but it is beautiful, and I consider it a cherished piece!!

Melody Haynes - November 20, 2011 - 8:00 pm

Our first knot dress was from the Gypsy Blue line – the Eva Rose. Its still one of my favorite dresses to this day. The dainty pink rose fabric is what sold me. The knot dresses are my favorite pieces every release !!

lillykate'smama - November 20, 2011 - 8:01 pm

It was from the Gypsy Blue collection, i think??? But I saw it at a trunk show and I was in LOVE!! I’m partial to the knot tops and dresses as well…..I’ve never not bought one from a collection….they just fit my bean’s personality. My most favorite is the knot top that matches my at the fair skirt. I will never sell it or pass it down, it is my favorite MJ piece for Lilly Kate EVER!!

Ashley Harris - November 20, 2011 - 8:01 pm

The first knot I ever bought was on eBay! It was right after I recieved the Christmas spread the love package and wanted to know what other pieces I could gather. It was the westside abbi knot to match our fern ruffles that you fabulous ladies sent us. Because of you spreading the love to me I have purchased numerous knots. I’m so thankful for what your brought into my life even though my hubs isn’t hah! Once again, thank you from your biggest fans ashley & macie.

I am more of a recent Matilda Jane newbie….my daughter is only 3 and we didn’t start buying Matilda Jane until a year ago or so…..Our first knot dress was the Field Trip Katerine Knot….and since that one I was hooked. They look so cute by themselves and with a shirt underneath…..they are a most for me know and I have them from everyline now and I have tracked down some older ones….and don’t get me started about platinum…..I love those too! Thanks

Melissa Settle - November 20, 2011 - 8:02 pm

My first knot was actually a knot top. Alice with Goldie ruffles. It’s way too small for my oldest now but her 2 year old baby sister will hopefully get to wear it next summer :)

Colleen Thomas - November 20, 2011 - 8:02 pm

i bought my first knot off of ebay. i have no idea what the name of it is, i guess it’s a platinum piece because it was made in the good ole usa…..
my daughter went to a “princess” themed party today, and she chose to wear her matilda jane knot….all the girls were dressed in the flowing, disney princess dresses. on our walk home, i asked lucy if she was bothered by being the only girl not in a princess dress, and her response was “but mom, i was”..love my mj girl!!!!!!

Judy B - November 20, 2011 - 8:03 pm

I didn’t think I liked knot dresses, so the very first one I bought was in January of this year. It was the Lou knot. My daughter called it her princess dress and now she only wants to wear knot dresses!

Cathy Carroll - November 20, 2011 - 8:03 pm

First knot was the Leona bought in Sept. My daughter’s second is the Monroe & we just got it yesterday. She loves it so much that she slept in it!!! She’s 4. Thanks so much! :)

hollyvolpe - November 20, 2011 - 8:03 pm

Oh my…years ago…Plymouth Art fair….yellows, browns and greens…got the matching flower hat too!!! Loved you then and love you more now!!! <3

Priscilla Bockelman - November 20, 2011 - 8:03 pm

My first MJ knot dress was the Sparkletown knot dress. I just recently discovered Matilda Jane about 1 1/2 year ago and I bought if off one of the MJ resale boards. My daughter wore it for Christmas last year. Love that the knot dresses have so many color combinations which make them so versitle and easy to coordinate with my little boy! Since then, I have discovered Platinum and love to see all of your amazing fabrics and combos!!! Thank you MJ for all of your hard work and for keeping my little 7 year girl in cute, fashionable, yet age appropriate. It is “knot” taken for granted :)

kate - November 20, 2011 - 8:03 pm

I bought my first knot dress before my almost 3 year old daughter was born… I knew I had to have it. I mean that she had to have it :) It has the cow print top and the herringbone :) I adore it still!! Even funnier, it just now fits her.

Brooke - November 20, 2011 - 8:04 pm

Our first knot dress was the latest and greatest (imo :), the Percy. I love that beautiful blue bottle fabric and yellow accents, and was infatuated as soon as I put it on my sweet 14 month old. It started an addiction…let’s just say there have been quite a few more added to her closet since then! I love the casual practicality of knot dresses. I never would have guessed that they were made that way just because you didn’t have time to sew on buttons–to me it makes it so much more long-lasting to have those adjustable straps! Looking forward to adding even more to the collection :)

mindy heisner - November 20, 2011 - 8:04 pm

The Leona and Percy were my daughter’s first knot dress, I did buy the katherine Knot top as my first purchase of matilda Jane, My mother in laws favorite btw with the samantha pant :) Love this clothing line oh so much, and it becomes oh so addicting.

Emily M - November 20, 2011 - 8:05 pm

Our first knot was Ava Rose from Gypsy Blue. I LOVE that piece (and everything from that line)!!!!! It and the Dottie are what got me hooked on Matilda Jane!

Jamie Hicks - November 20, 2011 - 8:05 pm

First dress was the April knot in 08′ for the Lady Adyson….the sticks came the following Dec :) teehee.

The Felinia knot dress from the first trunk show I was invited to. Been hooked ever since!

Brandi Samm - November 20, 2011 - 8:05 pm

My first MJ purchase was a knot dress, the reason I fell in love with MJ!! We are newbies to MJ and Lola was my dd’s first piece! Love at first sight!!

Julie Divjak - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

The first knot dress I bought was Fern in pink. At least I think that was what it was called. Loved that dress! We have bought a knot dress every season since.

Joyce K - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

We found MJ late and our first knot dress was not until Field Trip–the Katherine. However, we did have a knot top before that–the one from Hammond Bay–the Skye Knot top!

Tabatha Boyes - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

Our first knot was the west side tiered knot, the one with the cow print on the top. Not sure on the name, but I have re bought it in 3 sizes because we love it so much!

Kellie P - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

First knot dress ever was from Gypsy Blue, the Eva Rose. Loved it, still due. My first daughter out grew it so thankfully the younger one now wears it. Would have been to hard to put it in the “storage box” just yet.

Angel Jeff - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

As soon as I discovered Matilda Jane, I ordered the knot from Westside with ruffles and tights. That is where it all started. My daughter was one. I still have that knot and it will end up in a frame, I am sure!

Sarah Makinney - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

I have 3 girls, and the first knot I bought was for my oldest, a tomboy who would never wear dresses. She saw the Gypsy Blue Museum Knot at a show, and told me she “loved it”. I had never spent that much on a piece of clothing for my girls, and I was sceptical that she wanted it, but I bought it anyway. Well, she has worn that dress more than anything else! She had worn it every season, with tights, pants, biker shorts even. When she got taller we just adjusted the straps, and finally wore it as a tunic. Still my favorite MJ piece ever made:)

Jamie Jones - November 20, 2011 - 8:06 pm

Our first knot dress was the May Knot this past Spring. The beautiful blues & sweet little apron on this dress made me fall in love with knots!

Melody Haynes - November 20, 2011 - 8:07 pm

Our first knot is from the Gypsy Blue line – the Eva Rose knot !! Its one of my favorite dresses — my twins first birthday pictures were made wearing this dress !

JoAnne De La Roche - November 20, 2011 - 8:07 pm

My first introduction to MJC was through ebay in 2007…found someone selling what they called a knot dress that was just gorgeous. My oldest is 30 and my second born is a girl, who is 27 now…so I was looking around to see what was cute & practical for little girls in 2007. We had just adopted my daughter, who is now 5 and she wore that ArtFair knot dress from the time she was 1+ till 3+( as a top). I don’t think it had a name but I still think it is one of the most beautiful knots I have seen!

Lane Hammack - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

Knot Dress from Spring 2010 Hammond Bay Line. We still wear this 12 mos size dress as a top now at 2 1/2 years old. I couldn’t wait to order that dress. I’d been waiting until my daughter was big enough to wear MJC and this was the first season I could really indulge! Before then, a few tops were small enough to be worn as dresses, but Hammond Bay was the first REAL MJC experience for us with the Knot dress. And I love those things!

tammy - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

first knot…tululah knot. loved her…and both of my babes wore her…and then she was passed on to another sweet baby girl. Wonder where she is now? :)

Charlotte - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

My first was the knot dress from Field trip. Made the cutest Christmas card photo’s ever on my two girls!!

Jasmine - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

When I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter, I wanted the Abby knot for her so badly.. but I couldn’t actually get my hands on one.. so her first official knot was the Museum knot. Her first dress (which I bought when I was 6 months preggers) was the Westside Faux Fur cow dress.. in size 2.. and she’s still too small to wear it. We try it on once a month..We love our knot dresses though.. and we love that when even though she grows and grows.. she can wear them forever.

Priscilla Bockelman - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

My first knot dress was the Sparkletown knot dress. I discovered Matilda Jane through some of the resale boards and bought this about 1 1/2 years ago for my little girl to wear last Christmas. I love the knot dresses because they are so versitale and the different color combinations make it easy to coordinate my little boy. They can be dressed up or down with straightees too! I have since discovered Platinum and the color selections and piecing is amazing! Thank your MJ for making cute, fashionable, yet age appropriate clothing for my 7 year old daughter. We appreciate all your hard work and it’s “knot” taken for granted :)

Michelle Clouse - November 20, 2011 - 8:08 pm

I purchased my first knot dress off platinum about 3 years ago. It was a “smart” knot dress with red florals, golds and pinks. I don’t remember the official name. Even though my daughter has long outgrown it, I can’t seem to part with it. I am glad you needed to make a large quantity for the art fairs and decided just to tie knots. A great dress and style was born.

Joyce K - November 20, 2011 - 8:09 pm

We found MJ late and so our first knot dress was not until Field Trip-the Katherine. But, we did have a couple knot tops before that–our favorite being the one from Hammond Bay-the Skye Knot top.

Allison Farmer - November 20, 2011 - 8:09 pm

Pepper Knot (Feb 2009). She wore an 18 month then and now she wears a 4!

Danielle - November 20, 2011 - 8:09 pm

We actually just bought our first knot dresses this year! We got the Leona and Percy knot dresses, along with some other items! We are loving them all, as we have the previous items. :)

MC - November 20, 2011 - 8:09 pm

The first knot dress I bought my daughter was Westside Fern in Brown. Loved that dress.

Tish P - November 20, 2011 - 8:09 pm

Our first was the Tullah Tiered Knot and is still our favorite knot. It was bought when originally released and my Piper still wears it! It will definitely be one that we plan on passing to my nieces and then kept in my girl’s hope chest for her little one day.

F Y - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

Shasta Knot! I’m a newbie and fell in love with knot dresses ever since!

Charlotte - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

The knot dress from Field Trip last year – made for the cutest Christmas card pictures on my two sweet girls.

Lesli - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

Oh the Eva Rose Knot dress … 2.5 years ago! I still think it is so beautiful and innocent. When my dd outgrew it I gave it as a baby shower gift to a very dear friend– when she opened it I cried, it was a very dear moment as she new how special the dress was <3. It would have only been passed on to someone very special

NanaT - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

The Eva Rose Knot! And I’ve been broke ever since!!

Erin Cantwell - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

My first knot was the Gypsy Blue Bailey Knot Top. I still have it and I cannot wait for my youngest to wear it. It is one of my favorites!!!! Thanks for your wonderful work! I get compliments daily on my girls MJ clothes!!! I have to tell you that my 4 year old is a young addict! lol She took our ipad today and she told my husband that she was looking at the Matilda Jane website!!! lol

Liza Simonian - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

Stella stripes knot dress – beautiful and I love them all!

Mommy Jen - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

I have to start with the first time I saw Matilda Jane. I was buying/selling clothes for my little girl on facebook. When I was looking in another momma selling album, I saw the most amazing outfit. So adorable but unique and sassy. I was hooked! It was the all time fav Sprites with the Golden Girl Ellie. From that moment on I was hooked and so was Sophia. Our first purchase consisted of everything that was left from the Sugarland collection including the Felicia Knot Dress. Oh my she loves that knot dress. She still tries to wear the lollipop underneath it because they match. Silly girl :)

Sarah Long-Bachert - November 20, 2011 - 8:10 pm

I think it was the Shasta this spring, or was it the Forget Me Knot(is that the right name)from Plat…it’s all such a blur!

KelleeMac - November 20, 2011 - 8:11 pm

I bought 3 knot dresses at the very first trunk show I attended. How could I not pick those, just the most darling dresses on my 3 girlies ever! The tiniest of my 3 girls was just 2 years old then and know she is a big kindergartner and they all those their knot dresses and are never thrilled to pass down their faves, so we keep buying more. Thanks for your creativity under pressure :)

Melanie - November 20, 2011 - 8:11 pm

Oh, I love seeing all those pics from the early trunk collections! Our first knot dress was the April Knot from fall of 2007. We have it in a 12 month & a 4. My older 2 girls wore them SO much & now it is also the baby’s first knot dress!
I had discovered Matilda Jane at the Southern Women’s Show in the fall of 2005 & Googled it for over a year until I finally found your website! I signed up to host a trunk show immediately…and the rest is history…I wish I could tell you how many knot dresses we have now…but the kids are sleeping & I’m not sure I could count that high!
I agree with you, I love all of your new styles, but the knot dress is a classic & is always one of my favorites!
(Oh, but looking at those sketches I see the Damsel in a Dress, & that was another favorite!!)

Nicole Korensky - November 20, 2011 - 8:12 pm

My first Matilda Jane Knot dress was the “holiday knot dress” from 2008. It has red and green checks and corduroy apron-i still have it and both my daughters Still wear it! I will always keep that dress remembering it was my very first Matilda Jane Piece Ever! :)

Kim Eubanks - November 20, 2011 - 8:12 pm

My first knot dress for my sweet Stella Rain was the Percy Knot! Only started buying in May but I am in love with all the pieces! Beautiful work!

NC - November 20, 2011 - 8:13 pm

The first knot I bought my daughter was Westside Fern in Brown. Loved that dress!

Kelsey Bendixen - November 20, 2011 - 8:13 pm

The first knot I bought was platinum, and it was the blue moon! We still have it and I LOVE it! So glad it still fits this year :] It is gorgeous! We wore it for st pattys last year with the hotline green parallels and it was TDF adorable! :]

Emily Holleman - November 20, 2011 - 8:14 pm

This was our first MJ piece. I purchased at my first show as a Jane. Sugarland Felicia Knot!!! We LOVE the house pattern on bottom!

Laura - November 20, 2011 - 8:15 pm

I think I bought our first knot dress from you about a year and a half ago. It was a holiday knot dress. I bought it a little large, and my Lilly still wears it all the time.

R chase - November 20, 2011 - 8:15 pm

My first knot was the poppy knot from platinum. We had bought MJ before but never a knot (gasp!) and although Marlee has outgrown it, I will never part with it. It will stay in our family, it is THAT gorgeous. It’s just part of the fam now. 😉

EllieClaire'smommy - November 20, 2011 - 8:16 pm

The first knot dress was also the first piece of clothing that I bought from Matilda Jane! I bought the Gypsy blue Tullah knot dress. Ellie Claire wore that dress for almost 2 years! It is still one of my favorite knot dresses! I am addicted to your clothing and especially our knot dresses! Happy Thanksgiving!,,

Jamie Scott - November 20, 2011 - 8:16 pm

Our first knot dress (and favorite so far) was the Shasta from HOC! LOVE those colors and LOVE knot dresses period! So versatile and so fun!!

Sara Mildebrandt - November 20, 2011 - 8:17 pm

My first MJ piece was a knot dress from your West Side collection. I had looked on the website of MJ because my friend was having a trunk show I was not so sure but when I saw the clothes at her home I was taken away. MJ has wonderful fabric designs, combinations, ribbon, and bottons, that is what takes your clothes apart from the rest. My daughter was 2 at the time and now it is all she wears.

Sara - November 20, 2011 - 8:17 pm

My first knot dress was the Leona. There are so many beautiful MJ pieces that I did not choose to buy one until this last line and I could not pass up the beautiful knot dress. I was so pleased to find that the belt detached and became a beautiful scarf! My favorite part of the dress.

Sarah Makinney - November 20, 2011 - 8:17 pm

oops, accidently posted twice, sorry! please erase first one;)

Ashley Briley - November 20, 2011 - 8:18 pm

My first Knot dress was the LEONA!!!

Meredith Klobucnik - November 20, 2011 - 8:18 pm

I can’t recall just how that Homegrown postcard came into my hands but I do remember sending you an email about how inspired and happy just looking at it made me. I felt an instant connection to the spirit behind your clothing. The first piece we had was an Art Fair piece, it was a tiered Knot Dress with the froggies at the top part of the bodice and we also had a green shrug that she wore over it. She wore that dress for about 3 years and I kept it for my youngest to wear in a couple more years. Honestly, I had baby 3 just because of MJC…yup, I wanted another little girl to wear it starting from birth and she did, her first knot was a Circus Knot dress. Thank you for all that you do, we love MJC! Meredith

Melissa Allesi - November 20, 2011 - 8:19 pm

My first knot was the Jane exclusive Joanne knot top from field trip, I used it as a dress because my daughter was sooo tiny! OMG, it was soo cute on her little tiny self! I loved it because I was able to let her wear it for a while as the dress then as a top!

Brittney T - November 20, 2011 - 8:19 pm

Our first was the katherine, we still love it!!

Brenda - November 20, 2011 - 8:20 pm

The first knot dress we got was directly from you I believe. (actually I’m not 100% how it worked) My FIL is friends with Denise dad and that is how we got our dresses for our girls. We still have them, they no longer fit, but I can’t bear to part with them.

Jamie Scott - November 20, 2011 - 8:21 pm

I hope this didn’t post twice, I hit submit and got a blank
Screen :( But Shasta was our first and favorite!!

Melissa Allesi - November 20, 2011 - 8:21 pm

My first knot was the Jane exclusive Joanne knot top. My daughter wore it as a dress first because she was sooo tiny! OMG, it was adorable! I especially loved it because she wore it for a while as a dress then for a while as a top! :-) It was the beginning of my love affair with Matilda Jane AND knots! <3

Lorilynn - November 20, 2011 - 8:21 pm

Bowl OF oranges, was my first knot. I got it at a consignment store :hides: I didn’t even know what MJ was until I got home a goggled it I loved it so much 😮

The rest is history, lol. Thanks, I love these dresses All.of.Them. :giggle:

Courtney Wilson - November 20, 2011 - 8:22 pm

Our first knot was the tiered raindrop knot dress – perfect for wearing here in Vancouver, WA where it rains all the time! I actually just bought it a year ago when this crazy love affair first began. I love love love it! Number two was the Mr. Ollie – I hunted one down to use as my daughter’s second Easter dress – another deep love!

Amie Lillie - November 20, 2011 - 8:22 pm

I was introduced to Matilda Jane during Hotline, and I fell in love with Mr. Ollie.

beautifulclothing - November 20, 2011 - 8:22 pm

The first knot dress I bought was on the platinum site! I really can not remember the name, but it was gorgeous and I just had to have it for my little one. The knot top (bodice I believe they call it) was white with pink polka dots and the bottom was three different materials that were all really different from one another. It is so beautiful and my little one feels like a princess in it. Thank you for allowing little girls to feel beautiful, precious and unique!

Lauren - November 20, 2011 - 8:23 pm

Ah the knot dress always our favorites out of every line. Our 1st knot was from hotline and it was the dress that starter it all since then knots have become a closet staple 😉

sarah mosunic - November 20, 2011 - 8:24 pm

Our first knot was the one from the westside collection…I can never remember the right name of it lol…I think its called fern in pink. Has the pink apron….bought it last fall and its still my favorite one. Funny how the first piece seems to stick with so many of us. Love them all though!

Cynthia - November 20, 2011 - 8:24 pm

Our first knot was the Frogger Two Knot Dress…loved it with the Mint Ruffles! My first has always been my favorite.

graceevelynsmom - November 20, 2011 - 8:24 pm

The Shasta was our first dress but we have a knot top that I still LOVE on my daughter, I can’t remember the name, it was from Hammond Bay (one of my all time favorite lines!) and it has blues and the linen in it, we wear it with the marine straightees and with the linen ruffle pants and it is super cute!!

Sky's mommy - November 20, 2011 - 8:25 pm

Our first knot was the sparkle town knot, I will keep
this one for my granddaughter one day!

Ann B - November 20, 2011 - 8:26 pm

One of our first (bought about 8 items right off the bat when I found you all–thanks to a pic of Helena Bonham Carter’s chubby little babe in a knot dress) was a platinum knot with owls on the apron in pretty fall colors from about 2 years ago. So happy that I have 2 girls so these treasures get worn again. And a new niece to pass them down to!

Erika Calihan - November 20, 2011 - 8:26 pm

Hard to remember as it feels like I’ve been a fan for a while now. I feel certain I TRIED to get a knot dress from hotline that I REALLY wanted, but it was sold out in my girl Eva’s size. It was all ok though b/c Gypsy Blue came along with the Eva Rose Knot dress, and it was PERFECT for my pink lovin’ Eva girl;) LOVE having clothes that keep my little girl appropriately “little”. The knot dresses/tops do JUST that. Cute, charming, retro, vintage, girly…this mom’s dream come true!

Lindsey Summar - November 20, 2011 - 8:26 pm

My first knot dress was the pepper knot from the hammond bay collection. It was actually my first purchase from MJC. I was hooked from then on. Thank you so much for making adorable clothes for my girls!!! It is hard to look at any other clothes for them, because nothing compares!

Julie Yeoward - November 20, 2011 - 8:26 pm

A fairly new MJC customer.. (not quite a year). Stayed up one night refreshing like mad to score my first piece of Platinum. The lovely palms knot popped up and my heart nearly stopped. While our first knot turned out to not be the most saught after knot it is still one of our favorites… Nothing like the rush of a platinum score and I have been hooked ever since. So glad you took a leap of faith and may all your dreams come true.

sarah mosunic - November 20, 2011 - 8:27 pm

Westside fern in Pink!! And we still love it! Love you girls, love the clothes!

Betsy Reagan - November 20, 2011 - 8:28 pm

The first knot dress I bought was the pepper knot dress from HB when it came out! It is a size 12months and my youngest is about to be two but I just can’t get rid of it! It will always be my favorite!

DawnS - November 20, 2011 - 8:30 pm

Gracie May knot was my first. But I had to sell a kidney to get it b/c I missed it when it was released. Totally worth it though:)

michelle - November 20, 2011 - 8:31 pm

Our first was the Stella knot. I find it crazy that I remembered that with no problem. I also remember how bad I wanted the one with the striped apron and it sold out. But we loved the other apron just as much once we got it. We have since owned tons of knots. And somehow I remember many of the names. Too funny.

Alina - November 20, 2011 - 8:32 pm

The Forget Me Knot… and ever since, Ava Rosie and I have been in LOVE with everything Matilda Jane:)

Tiffany Page - November 20, 2011 - 8:33 pm

I bought my first knot dress for my little Isabella almost two years ago. We had a photo shoot with Katie and Dan from Peekaboo Photos and she had a sample for my daughter to wear. I instantly fell in love. Having a little girl after having two boys was pretty special. Dressing her in your amazing clothes makes it even better!

Alina - November 20, 2011 - 8:33 pm

The Forget Me Knot…holds a special place in my heart and is a favorite of my
Ava Rosie:)

Tara - November 20, 2011 - 8:34 pm

Our first order from Matilda Jane was the Katherine Knot Dress & Thelma Ruffles. My daughter got the set for Christmas last year and it still fits this year. It’s a size 8, but even my 10 yr. old can wear the set as a top & capris. Love, love, love it.

Ashley - November 20, 2011 - 8:35 pm

i bought my first mj knot for my oldest daughter last summer. it was the xanadu knot dress! now my middle daughter is wearing it and i bet it will also be worn by my two youngest nieces!

Sarah Henderson - November 20, 2011 - 8:35 pm

Great sketches! Love it!
My first knot was maybe about a year ago, I bought a Chloe Knot for my younger daughter. I remember thinking this decision over, just saying to myself “I would just love to one day own one single Matilda Jane dress”. Little did I know what a wonderful can of worms I was opening. In the last year I have hosted many trunk shows, and bought some gorgeous Platinum and splurged a countless resale pieces. I love it all. I am so in love with MJC. <3 But you know, my most fav dress is still the Chloe. My first and my most treasured. And it still fits my 18 month old now! I love that about these dresses, they grow with the child. I havent known that with any other styling…
LOVE them!
Thanks so much for the cuteness as always!
Sarah

Misty Austin - November 20, 2011 - 8:36 pm

My love of Matilda Jane began with a knot dress in 2009, I believe. It was Happiness in a Knot with the Lifesaver Ruffles. This was also my first piece of Matilda Jane ever! I remember my baby girl wearing it for the first time, I was in love… we also had professional pictures taken in it. Still loving them as much today as I did then.

Natali P. - November 20, 2011 - 8:37 pm

the sweet eva rose knot dress was my daughter’s first…never will I forget it. It would be neat to say it was a super early piece from your art fair days way back when but with my baby girl only being 3, i discovered your beautiful work during gypsy blue…..sweet sweet eva rose. If you only knew the obsession you started….:)

Ashley - November 20, 2011 - 8:37 pm

My daughter’s first knot dress was from the Platinum Line. It was called the Victorian Dot Knot. We fell in love after that, and we haven’t looked back since! Thanks for making such cute clothes!

Kristy Coleman - November 20, 2011 - 8:37 pm

Our first Mj knot dress was the summer line of 2010 it wax the pink knot dress with the blue and pink patterns of flowers. I cannot remember the name but it was adorable and I fell in love with the knot dress!

Nichole hunt - November 20, 2011 - 8:38 pm

Eva rose knot dress <3 my first MJ peice
What a beauty and will always be my favorite!

Nicole Fijalkovic - November 20, 2011 - 8:38 pm

My daughter would fight me every morning over what she would wear. Of couse she would win and I would be mortified walking her into daycare everyday. Instead of “Good Morning” to her teacher, it was “I had nothing to do with this”. One morning, after I washed my hands of my daughter’s attire, the teacher said “she looks like a Matilda Jane girl”. I spent the next hour at my office trying to figure out what Matilda Jane was and the next hour trying to figure out what I wanted the most. Once I saw the Chelsa Knot Dress, it was love at first sight. From that day to today, the one thing that is not a battle is MJ. Thanks for restoring the peace!

Amy Hilley - November 20, 2011 - 8:38 pm

Our first knot dress, first piece of MJC, was purchased (used) about 2 years ago. It is a 2007 dress and I cannot find the name anywhere! My girlie loved it and it is hanging in the closet waiting for my baby to grow into it. It is a very special dress to us.

Chris - November 20, 2011 - 8:39 pm

Gypsy Blue had me hooked from the get-go and we have been die-hard addicts ever since! Even now that my little girl is in the MJ tween sizes – i love that i can still dress her like a “little girl”!

Becky Mathis - November 20, 2011 - 8:39 pm

My first ever knot dress was the tiered guacamole dress. Super cute, and so underrated!

Heather farr - November 20, 2011 - 8:39 pm

My first one Was the Katherine Knot and we have bought everyone since! We love them!!

Hope Boyce - November 20, 2011 - 8:39 pm

I fell in love with MJC when I read about the Chelsea Knot … I had to have it! I may have bought other Knots first because my DIL helped me buy for her girls and my other granddaughters, but I loved the Chelsea story so I consider the Chelsea Knot my firs one! I love buying for all my girls (daughters and granddaughters), but I like knowing my money goes such a long way … BTW, I think the knot idea is brilliant! This from the woman who is IN LOVE with MJC buttons!

Heather Blewett - November 20, 2011 - 8:40 pm

I have been drooling over Matilda Jane for 5 yrs…the first one I saw was actually an adult skirt and I fell in love with the contrasting but complimentary fabric choices…so I checked out your on-line store and LOVED everything…the only problem 2 boys=) Until this year that is!! Madeline Paige was born in February 2011 and I bought her first knot dress right after the ultrasound telling me that she was a girl….Sparkletown Holiday knot dress.. she will be wearing it this Christmas Day!

Kristi - November 20, 2011 - 8:40 pm

I bought my first knot – pink knot – almost exactly one year ago. I know I’m a relative newbie but it was a perfect first birthday dress for my little one. It ended up being the inspiration piece for her entire party :)

Amy hanshew - November 20, 2011 - 8:41 pm

Even thoughasking I’ve been buyingcleaning Matilda Jane for over years, my first not was the Jane Exclusive Forget Me Not. Bought at the 2010 Art Fair. Still my favorite!

stephanie - November 20, 2011 - 8:41 pm

My first “knot” dress purchase, was not truly intended to be a knot. It was the museum dress which I always knotted to guarantee the straps would stay put. My absolute favorite piece to this day!

Chantena - November 20, 2011 - 8:41 pm

Surprisingly the Chelesea knot from Tiny Sparrow was our first knot dress! I owned lost of other dress types but that was our first knot. This one was special because I have followed oh so posh and tiny sparrow for a long time. When I seen the dress I had to have it :)

Lindsey Summar - November 20, 2011 - 8:42 pm

My first knot dress was the pepper knot from the hammond bay collection. It was actually my first purchase from MJ. I was hooked from then on. Thanks so much for making adorable clothes for my girls. It is hard to look at other clothes for them because nothing compares to MJC!!!

It was also the first time to meet my TK- now very great friend Lisa:) Love how it was the beginning of so many wonderful things!! Leslie:)

Shanna Sensing - November 20, 2011 - 8:45 pm

Caroline Terlaje - November 20, 2011 - 8:48 pm

My 1st Matilda Jane Knot Dress that I bought was I think in 2009 and it was the Westside Abbi Knot Dress and it’s still one of my favorites! We loved wearing it with the Westside Olive Juice Ruffles!

gena - November 20, 2011 - 8:48 pm

My very first knot was from fall of 2007! I don’t beleive it had a name but it a corduroy bottom with rich vibrant colors!! It was my very first MJ order and I remember calling right away in the am because you had announced a sale on your blog and I think I chatted with Lynette. When I first got my package I was in awe and couldn’t wait to put it on my little girl. Lynette also sent a red cartigan and matching hood with a note that said “Enjoy your new MJ and here is a gift for those cold days in WI” well thoes were not the exact words but close 😉

Kerry Blakemore - November 20, 2011 - 8:49 pm

Our first knot was a gift, the Daisy Lace Knot and we have been in love ever since!

Brie - November 20, 2011 - 8:49 pm

2 years ago..my beloved Eva Rose Knot Dress from Gypsy Blue! 2 years later and she can still wear it (as a top).. Can’t part with it..it’s very special as it introduced me to, not just Matilda Jane, but my VERY special TK! X

Chasity Jenkins - November 20, 2011 - 8:50 pm

My first knot dress was from the Gypsy Blue line! I think I paid $52 & after my daughter outgrew it, it sold on EBay for $102 !!! I couldn’t believe it! So now I tell my husband your knot dresses are a good investment!! :)

CarrieP - November 20, 2011 - 8:51 pm

Abbi was our first knot! I first heard about MJ through the Photo Love contest and that very night I bought three dresses on eBay, the knot being one. I just couldn’t wait another second!

Laura Frazier - November 20, 2011 - 8:52 pm

I will “knot” forget when I discovered Matilda Jane and purchased my first KNOT dress and it really was “KNOT” a good idea, the way it all went down. My daughter was 6 months old and I was a HS Principal at the time (end of April, beginning of May). I think it might have been the first time Art Fair was put online about 4 years ago. I remember it so well because I was headed down to the Galveston Convention Center to set up for the Senior Prom for our school that would entertain 800 seniors and their guest for the evening. Because my DD was so young, I asked my best friend to go down to the beach with me while the hubby stayed with Emma. When I got to her house to pick her up, we both got on 2 different computers and I had 5 others on computers in different locations, including my Mom, photographer and other friends. Needless to say, we were 2 hours and 20 minutes late to meet the consultant and the convention center to finalize the details of Prom because I was “hitting refresh a zillion times”. After all was said and done, I did not get a THING and I was so sad that I had wasted all that time and we jumped in the car and drove as fast as we could to the beach for Prom. About 1/2 way down, my cell phone rang and it was my photographer who managed to get about $400 worth of Knots and Ruffles and I was estatic. That is where it all began and it has “KNOT” stopped since then. We are addicted to all things Matilda Jane. We are “KNOT” only in love with MJ, but we are in love with the friendships we have made along the way and what this company stands for. My hubby has finally learned that there is “knot” a darn thing he can do each time there is a new release and he has come to love all the ruffles and Knots himself. Our family will “KNOT” be the same as a result of MJ and the cuteness it brings to our household. Thank you!

2 years ago..Eva rose Knot Dress from Gypsy Blue. 2 years later and my daughter can still wear it (as a top!)..can’t part with it..it’s very special, as it introduced me to not just Matilda Jane, but my VERY special TK!

Kelly Cheek - November 20, 2011 - 8:55 pm

I bought two Shasta Knots at my first trunk show. Still some of my favorite MJC!

Ana Esteves-Amaro - November 20, 2011 - 8:55 pm

I never purchesed one but was given a hand me down knot dress from my cousin whos daughter loved it so much she named it her princess maggie tea party dress. She out grew it but decided to give it to her cousin who she calls her little princess sister. It it hot pink, aqua, green, brown and much more. It is beautiful. We also out grown it and have given it to another little princess who can look just as beautiful as the princesses who wore it before her. And hopefully she will then in turn give it to another beautiful princess and make her just as happy as we were. Gift of giving is wonderful. <3 Thanks for making all littles feel happy in their princess dresses!

Courtney Wilson - November 20, 2011 - 8:56 pm

(don’t think my previous comment showed up!). Our first knot dress was an old Art Fair one – the tiered rain drops one I think – I bought it a year ago when my daughter started walking because it is PERFECT for the rainy Pacific NW! It started a love affair – I love it, my daughter loves it! Our second was Mr. Ollie – oh how I love him :) – it was my daughter’s (the only girl after 3 boys) second Easter dress and I still love it. I have a great picture I will have to post of it :).

Rebecca Parvin - November 20, 2011 - 8:56 pm

Our first knot dress was the Shasta knot (my daughter is only two). I think we have them all since then with the exception of platinum. They are my favorite pieces too. Why? Because the apron can be removed and you have whole new dress, knots can be worn year around… by themselves, with short sleeve under or long sleeve under, and they can be worn for several years… as dresses and then cute tops with big ruffles!!! Love love love them… but I love it all! :)

Tracy Jackson-Wilson - November 20, 2011 - 8:57 pm

My first knot dress purchase was actually the Percy Knot dress. I wasn’t wild about it until I saw it in person at my first trunk show. It is such a gorgeous piece and as with all MJC, the details are perfection!!

Melissa Simmons - November 20, 2011 - 8:57 pm

Truth be told, i haven’t actuallu purchased one of your knots. Gasp, i know! Here’s why: i love to sew myself so i always buy things you make that i can’t …and that pretty much means anything made with your spectacular knits!

Amy K. - November 20, 2011 - 8:57 pm

I was late to the knot dress game. Went with knit dresses first. Finally got my first knot dress from platinum and LOVE it!!!! The chickadee knot will always have a special place in my daughters wardrobe.

Ana Esteves-Amaro - November 20, 2011 - 8:58 pm

Melissa - November 20, 2011 - 8:59 pm

We had some pieces from Westside but the first knot dress was from the Hotline collection – The Phoney Knot! I loved that dress on my daughter. It was whimsical and fun, just like her. Thank you for making such sweet, fun clothing!

Angel Jeff - November 20, 2011 - 9:00 pm

As soon as I discovered Matilda Jane Clothing, I ordered the knot dress from Westside with tights and ruffles. My daughter was a year old. That knot will be end up in a frame, I’m sure.

Jennifer - November 20, 2011 - 9:01 pm

I bought my first 3 years ago, I didn’t even go to the trunk show and can’t think of the line, a friend did and she ordered one for us to “share”. I have a daughter who is a year older, so we split the cost so that mine could wear it the first year and then I would pass down to her daughter! I actually bought two – one for the share and one for my older daughter. I still have that one from my oldest to pass down to my youngest for her to “share” with her sister.
I have since been to plenty of trunk shows and spent way more than 1/2 of a knot dress! LOVE Matilda Jane and knot dresses! :)

AnnMarie - November 20, 2011 - 9:03 pm

I bought my first knot dress this fall for my 3 yr old daughter. Her “apple” dress as she likes to call it. Of course, the Percy Knot dress is the correct name. She wears it at least once a week and twirls all over the place. Love, love, love it!!

Daphne Sweeney - November 20, 2011 - 9:04 pm

My first knot dress came from the Gypsy Blue line, and it was a great twirling dress! From there we have bought knot shirts and more knot dresses…my daughter wore the one today with the printed apron that we bought to support a charity you were showcasing. Love them!

Daphne Sweeney

Jessica Nevermann - November 20, 2011 - 9:05 pm

My first knot was purchased 3 years ago, while pregnant with my daughter Aubrey. The dress I purchased was the daisy lace knot. This dress began my love for your clothing. I dread the day she no longer fits into this piece. I have even considered having my seamstress make it into a doll dress or something to give it more life. Thank you girls making clothes we can fall in love with.

Tracy and Abigail D - November 20, 2011 - 9:06 pm

Our first knot dress was the Mr. Ollie dress in 2009. We loved it so much we have bought it again… and then again! I’m sure people are wondering how we are wearing the same dress for three years running. We love everything in Hotline!

AnnMarie - November 20, 2011 - 9:06 pm

I bought my first knot dress this fall for my 3 yr old daughter. The Percy Knot dress, or the “apple” dress as she likes to call it, is her favorite and she wears it at least once a week. More if she could :)…

Elaine - November 20, 2011 - 9:07 pm

My first MJ knot dress was during the 2009 winter sale in January. I got the Prairie knot and it was LOVE at first site. My sweet DD was 16 months and she liked picking up her shirt and gauging her little belly button with her finger, and the knot dress was the perfect solution!!! Not only was she super cute in the adorable prairie knot dress, it was also perfect for layering during our cold NY winters. Thank you to MJ and Kayla for helping me and having the best customer service EVER!!!! After that I was hooked!! :)

Shanna - November 20, 2011 - 9:09 pm

I actually inherited my first knot from a friend in July 2010, right before the Field Trip release. It was the Gypsy Blue Tullah knot and I absolutely adore it!! It fit as a dress for my Gracie for most of the fall/winter and now we wear it as a top with the witmer ruffles.

Kate Shephard - November 20, 2011 - 9:09 pm

Oh my, I was so excited to get our first knot. Three years ago now, wow time flies! I think it was called Fern in Brown. Anna wore it with a lovely blue print button tee and the Henrietta ruffles. Now I get to see my niece in it and boy does it take me back!

Lesley Lee - November 20, 2011 - 9:10 pm

About 4 years ago, a cute little knot with matching hat. Can’t remember name.. It got me hooked!

Shanna Sensing - November 20, 2011 - 9:10 pm

Trying one more time on here. . .my first knot was the Westside Abbi in 2008. . .I have loved all things MJ ever since!!

Kristy Determan - November 20, 2011 - 9:12 pm

I can’t believe this (but give me a break because I am kind of a newcomer), but my first knot dress was actually this season, and it was the Percy Knot dress! Crazy, I know! But oh my golly do I LOVE that apple!!! My daughter Madelyn has worn the fall out of that dress from family pictures, the apple orchard, the pumpkin patch and anywhere and everywhere in between. As I see all the other knot dresses MJ has made in the past, I really think the Percy has them beat!! Kristy Determan

Melissa Fogaros - November 20, 2011 - 9:12 pm

Mine was the Eva Fiona Knot. I fell in love with Matilda Jane the day I first saw that dress at a preschool program on my daughter’s best friend. Sooooooo beautiful. I asked her mom for “permission” to purchase my own (we lived across the street and our girls were together every day), and swore I would always check to make sure we didn’t wear them on the same day. Now, years later, we have to do the same thing with every MJC line b/c we always buy so many of the same pieces! :)

Katie Richardville - November 20, 2011 - 9:14 pm

I found my first Matilda Jane knot dress at a Goodwill in Fort Wayne almost 2 years ago. And I think I paid $2.50 for it. It was love at first sight, and still one of my favorites – and my daughters. I think it was called Wishy Tiered. We always called it the Twirly Dress.

kristen - November 20, 2011 - 9:14 pm

My first Knot dress was the Hotline Daisy Knot that Santa brought for Christmas when all my daughter wanted was “a pretty dress.”

R chase - November 20, 2011 - 9:15 pm

Our first knot was the poppy knot from platinum. We had bought MJ before but never a knot (gasp!). Although there has been some good competition the poppy is still our favorite. It doesn’t fit Marlee anymore but we will never be able to part with it. It is a masterpiece. Yep, staying here forever! It’s part of the fam now!

JoAnne J. - November 20, 2011 - 9:16 pm

Whelp, I’ve been buying for a few years now, but my first 2 knots I paid dearly for :) The Gracie May and the Violet Knot. I loved the colors in those SOOO Much! I was hooked and buying ever since. Although I wasn’t able to attend my first REAL Trunk Show until I moved to Alaska. And I gotta say I was so excited when I found out it was a REAL possibility to SEE the clothes first. After all those years, lol. One of my favorite lyrics applies best here “what a long strange trip its been” 😀 Thanks!!

Stephanie - November 20, 2011 - 9:16 pm

Shasta was our first knot this past spring at our first trunk show, and the beginning of an ever growing collection. I think Shasta will always be my favorite because my DD wore for 1 year pics. Two 12X12s hang in my living room:).

Shelly Kirksey - November 20, 2011 - 9:22 pm

Ours was the Aloha knot or at least that is what I was told it was called. (I think it is Platinum) I had no idea how to buy one so I bought my first knot off of ebay. I was in love! My daughter wore it this year for Easter and was photographed a few times in it and people just raved about how beautiful it was. That started my love affair with Matilda Jane and now we can’t get enough of those beautiful knots! They keep my 6 year old looking like what a 6 year old is SUPPOSED to look like!! Our favorites so far, Market Knot, Faircloth Hill, and Cirque. PERFECTION!! xoxoxo

Lisa - November 20, 2011 - 9:22 pm

Well it has been at least 4 1/2 years that I have been buying MJ and I am sorry to say that none of my first purchases were the knots (it was the ruffles that sold me)-not at a first that is! It took me at least 2 to 3 years to appreciate the knots and then all of a sudden I was in love and had several! I believe my first was one that had kind of a christmas feel -beautiful black and red type Poppy flowers, greenish, brownish, redddish stripes on the sides and a fabric that reminded me of a partridge in a pear tree at the top! Can not remember the name for anything. It was beautiful-I just loved it and still do-that started my knot interest! I have to say that one of my all time favs was the whirly bird-I hunted that one down forever-love!!!

Andrea - November 20, 2011 - 9:22 pm

Our first knot dress was a cafeteria knot! We love the knot dresses!

Molly Schwartz - November 20, 2011 - 9:23 pm

My first knot was the Leona knot dress a couple of months ago. I fell so in love and can’t wait to have another and another and another for my 2 girls!

Amy Childers - November 20, 2011 - 9:23 pm

ok so i was at a funeral and when we were leaving I saw the most beautiful child wearing the most beautiful outfit…i was like where on Earth did you get those clothes? It was the Hotline Daisy Lace Knot dress and Posie ruffles..and I was in love. She said its Matilda Jane and you can bet I went home and googled Matilda Jane and sent them an email asking if could be a Jane and have a trunk show… I had my first show maybe 3 weeks later and have never looked back…my girls were probably 6 months and 4 yrs old…so that must have been 3 years or so ago. oh…and I still have that Daisy Lace Knot dress …my first knot I ever purchased…its easily my all time favorite.

Denise - November 20, 2011 - 9:23 pm

JoAnne- I remember the Gracie May loud and clear!!! LOVED it!

Maria S - November 20, 2011 - 9:23 pm

My first knot dress was The Stella Blue knot dress, and big brown ruffles. I had never seen ruffles or knot dresses before Matilda Jane. I was in love with it immediately and the rest is history

Denise - November 20, 2011 - 9:25 pm

Oh Laura- You brought me to tears!!! Love that story

Kim Battah - November 20, 2011 - 9:25 pm

Oh, my knot is not that “old”, however, it is truly special! My mom actually bought it for my daughter very shortly after finding out that I was having a little girl. She gave it to her for her first Christmas. My daughter was 3 weeks old and was the very proud owner of a 12m Shasta knot….it truly was love at first sight and we have been hooked ever since!

Jill Speight - November 20, 2011 - 9:26 pm

LOVE the knot dress! My three girls have owned many! Our first were purchased at the same time… Fern in Pink and Abbi. LOVE the Abbi! Still have it… she still wears it as a top over jeans! This is it’s fourth fall season! Can’t beat that for cuteness! Oh, I meant value! :-p

christina - November 20, 2011 - 9:28 pm

My first knot was the daisy lace knot. I loved it paired with the yellow tights with green polka dots. I had my daughter dressed in that beautiful knot for my favorite family pictures!

Amy Brooke - November 20, 2011 - 9:28 pm

Sugarland Felicia was our very first piece of MJ love! I finally had a baby girl and both my daughter and MJC were love at first sight!

JennE - November 20, 2011 - 9:29 pm

After drooling over a friend’s daughter in MJC knots, I finally bought my first one in 2008 – The Peace by Piece Holiday Knot. It was divine…and I was hooked :)

Yvonne - November 20, 2011 - 9:30 pm

I bought my first knot dress, the west side cow dress, on eBay. Don’t hate me. Someone told me about Matilda Jane and I went to your website a couldn’t purchase the dress. So I went crazy a bough a bunch on eBay, paying almost new prices. And then the next week I was hooked up with a trunk show hostess. I was able to buy a couple of items on black Friday a year ago through my friends show. I have bought almost everything in your summer and fall line since. It’s an addiction!! My daughter gets compliments everywhere we go she is always the best dressed darling!!! I’m a little obsessed. My daughter loves the clothes and so do I! I’m a free people junkie or I was untill she came along now I’m Matilda Jane for life girl or until she turnes 13! I love your clothes too bad I can only afford to buy for her now. I’m going to have my own trunkshow next time so I can buy something for me. But now all I really care about is her now anyway. We love Matilda Jane . No one else can compare! There are alot of copycats now, nut your label and quality fabric says it all!

Ronna N - November 20, 2011 - 9:30 pm

I think our first knot was tullah tiered knot – still love that dress!

iris n. - November 20, 2011 - 9:31 pm

Our very first knot was the Daisy Lace knot, from Hotline. I have owned many MJC knots, and this one is still my favorite. Its now much too small for my girl (first it was worn as a dress, last summer it became a top…and this summer it will go on hiatus before the little sister can fit into it next year). This knot (and the Posie ruffles!) were our first MJ anything…and oh how i still love that set.

Alyssa - November 20, 2011 - 9:33 pm

Oh jeeze…our first knot dress was the GB baliley knot, I believe.

I had always admired MJ from a far, but never thought I could afford it as everyday clothing. I took Maddie to tumbling class and a few moms were talking about it. The one offered to let me buy her daughters outgrown MJ and we absolutely fell in love. It is easy to justify the cost when you can make 30 outfits from 10 pieces of clothing. Now, knots are our FAVORITE!! I posted on your twitter a while ago that we could have every knot you ever made and it still wouldn’t be enough! LOVE them!

Michelle H - November 20, 2011 - 9:36 pm

Mya’s first Knot dress was Eva Rose Gypsy Blue line? We had just found Matilda Jane through Facebook this past May.

I had no idea that this little dress would be just the beginning to a closet full of “must have’s”, my personal facebook turning into a “shopping page”,a twitter account that i am trying to still figure out and pintrest! love! teaching my 12, 17 yr old how to catch “plat” and most importantly those late night facebook MJ moms making me laugh!! Yeah – our first knot dress was Eva Rose :)

Ashley Nichols - November 20, 2011 - 9:39 pm

Tullah Twirl!!!! First of MANY!! Sigh… Sadly my baby is growing up and it is getting harder and harder to put one on her… Not sure what I’m gonna do when she flat out refuses… for now I can still talk her into it!!! :)

sfco - November 20, 2011 - 9:40 pm

I remember the first time I saw MJ-it was on a little girl at a public play area. She was wearing a peasant top and I knew that I just had to have one for my little girl. So I had my first trunk party-I was so excited!!! My daughter was 2 and now she is almost 6, I can’t believe it. I bought a knot dress at that show-I don’t know what it was called but they sold out fast and then turned up on ebay for $200. My TK said I should put it up because I was lucky enough to get one, but I said no way. I did not buy that dress to turn around and sell it. I still have it and now have another little one who loves it too!! Thank you MJC!

Megan Maddox - November 20, 2011 - 9:40 pm

First Knot dress – HOC Shasta!!! Fell in love with it!

Jen W. - November 20, 2011 - 9:40 pm

My first knot was about a year and a half ago, when I accidentally stumbled upon “platinum.” I didn’t know anything about Matilda Jane really, because my pint-sized daughter was just starting to fit in 12 month clothing. Little did I know, that upload of “mod-podge” and one other beautiful dress and pink gingham with green lace ruffles would start an addiction. My daughter and I have closets full of outfits we now consider favorites from the seasonal collections we’ve been a part of the past year, and we plan to continue on that trend! My girl’s clothes with the “much too pretty brown labels” on the back are the ones that will go in storage…the ones that her daughter will wear…the ones we will pass on as long as they last. We cherish our favorite MJ works of art :)

Ana Perelman - November 20, 2011 - 9:40 pm

OMG! bring memories too! First heard about MJ on Janie and Jack board – isn’t it ironic… looked at the pictures and had to have it! ginger knot was Lola’s first one – I was in love!
spent hours on phone art fair but got more and it turned into hobby – collecting MJ- I turned into collector!
then met you at Milwaukee art fair at University school and that was magical – got several more amazing knots and the rest is history :)

Denise - November 20, 2011 - 9:41 pm

Yvonne-
You are so cute!

Kaitlyn - November 20, 2011 - 9:41 pm

I believe our first knot was the Gypsy Blue knot. Our favorite?? Honestly, there are too many to name, but Hudson, Whirly Bird, Cirque, Kaleidoscope are among them :)

Ana Perelman - November 20, 2011 - 9:42 pm

forgot to mention – it was back in 2007 – my first MJ piece!

Denise - November 20, 2011 - 9:43 pm

Ana-
Oh, that phone Art Fair!! Man, that was a crazy time…Wow..I just walked down memory lane..love i..thanks for reminding me.

Joy Williams - November 20, 2011 - 9:44 pm

My 1st Matilda Jane purchase took me a couple of days to decide because I couldn’t see them in person before I bought and I had no idea what size. I bought one daughter a Holiday knot dress and my other daughter the Eva Rose dress. I bought the Victorian lace socks to go with them. We had a photo session at Christmas and they were perfect for the photos. We have bought many more pieces since then and I am so glad that my friend had a show. After the session I went to Platinum and bought several items. It was so easy to do back then. I remember when you started your FB page. Years later I love being a Jane and I still love your clothes for my kiddos and myself. Thanks MJC!

Amber W. - November 20, 2011 - 9:44 pm

My daughter only owns two MJ pieces due to our very limited budget :( But we love the two we have :) The first one I purchased was the GB Tullah Knot Dress. I wish we owned a Museaum dress or Felicia Knot :)

jill p - November 20, 2011 - 9:45 pm

The Bailey is our first favorite. Great paisley-like swirl up top, fantastic pair of pink pockets on the front, adorable ribbon at the hemline….such a perfect combination of fabrics….as always. We love it!

Shannon - November 20, 2011 - 9:48 pm

Our first knot dresses were from 2008 I think (still made in the good ol’ USA) and I cannot remember the name. They have bright red flowers on the front and blue material in the back with striped material around the bottom. I still have them both since I cannot bring myself to sell them even though my girls have long outgrown them. They are so pretty! Thank you for making beautiful clothing that my girls love to wear! :)

Stacie Petta - November 20, 2011 - 9:49 pm

My first MJ piece I purchased was from the Gypsy Blue line Fall 2009…12 month size for my little Averi. I can’t remember the name but it was the blue with darker blue polka dots and pink flowers wrap top with the tan/brown polka dot sleeves. I also got the matching leggings in blue and brown stripes! Been hooked ever since!

Liz B - November 20, 2011 - 9:50 pm

Holiday knot dress and Skye knot top. liked both so much. the top has been used as a top for my toddler and dress for my baby! :)

ashley lindler - November 20, 2011 - 9:51 pm

the katherine – love it

Liz B - November 20, 2011 - 9:52 pm

holiday knot dress and skye knot top. liked them both so much, ordered them at a trunk show. the top has been a top and dress(for my baby) :)
the organza ruffle and dachshund ribbon are too cute!

Calah Young - November 20, 2011 - 9:54 pm

Our first knot dress was the Tiered Tullah. I fell in love with the little tab on the front with the deer. Very cute! My daughter wore it as a dress and then as a shirt too. She wore it for a longer amount of time than any other article of clothing she’s ever had!

jennifer cain - November 20, 2011 - 9:56 pm

Our first knot was the Shasta from HOC…and we were hooked. It is still one of my girls favorites. Our first Platinum knot was very recent….the Miss Lynette….and then I become obsessed. In fact my new mantra while looking at new platinum updates is I can Knot I can Knot I can Knot….because I could and would love to have soooo many. Thanks for the beauty and quality but above all the Art!

Rachel cobb - November 20, 2011 - 9:57 pm

My first knot was the guacamole knot (I think that’s the name). I bought it resale and immediately feel in love of course. And have fallen even more in love with Matilda Jane each season and with each public service project!!

cara Z - November 20, 2011 - 9:57 pm

I think it was off Platinum, Darcy & something! Just so excited to get something!

Melissa B - November 20, 2011 - 10:01 pm

Our first knot was the Hammond Bay Pepper Knot. (It was also our first MJ purchase!) One of my favorites – ever!!! Then I was beyond thrilled to get the “Come One Come All” knot dress this summer! Two of the cutest dresses my girls will ever own…

Lainee - November 20, 2011 - 10:03 pm

Leona was the first knot I
have been able to get. I love all the knots!! My dream is to get my girls knots from platinum. The knot is the perfect dress!!

Jeanne E - November 20, 2011 - 10:04 pm

I’m going through memory lane recalling all the beautiful knots that we’ve been lucky enough to own. I love each one for it’s own special reason-my first Ollie knot in Hotline as I discovered MJ, the Museum knot for her first day of preschool, the Sugarland for holiday photos…but, if I had to pick one I would pick the Sparkletown knot. She literally shined when she wore that one. I will keep these pieces forever. Thank you.

Mom2Six - November 20, 2011 - 10:04 pm

I think our first knot dress was the tiered knot from Gypsy Blue. The fabric combinations make the MJC knot dresses gorgeous! They are our Matilda Jane staple. :)

Allison H. - November 20, 2011 - 10:05 pm

Elizabeth’s first knot dress was the Katherine’s Knot Dress, which is so funny because it is what she wore to church today along with the Mulligan tights and the cute blue top with the lace bell sleeves. She looked precious as always. I am so excited it still fits a year later so I can see her wear it again! Yay!! Her very first knot piece was a knot top from the Gypsy Blue line, but it no longer fits. :( I get so sad when she outgrows a piece.

Laura - November 20, 2011 - 10:08 pm

I fell in love with the Eva Rose knot and that was my first Matilda Jane purchase! It is still one of my very favorite dresses!

Jennifer Mezines - November 20, 2011 - 10:08 pm

Our first knot dress was the Tullah Tiered Knot. I sized up and my daughter is still wearing it. It is definitely one of her favorites. She loves the way it twirls, and I love how we ALWAYS get compliments on it…every time!

Pam C - November 20, 2011 - 10:09 pm

My first knot was from the field trip line. Yes, I’m a newbie! But I’ve purchased every knot since then and have even been lucky enough to grab a few from platinum! My daughter wore one to church today and sang in the “cherub choir”. She truly looked like an angel – I wish I could keep her this age forever! When we got home I told her she needed to change, but she insisted on keeping it on! She told me that she felt like a princess in it. So, she napped in it! Yes, I’m a newbie, but if you decided tomorrow to only make knots, I’d still be a huge admirer!

Amanda - November 20, 2011 - 10:10 pm

I actually only got into MJ because I found a dress at Goodwill. I had never heard of the brand before. I was there looking for vintage clothes because I was bored of most of the stuff I was finding for my 3 girls at regular stores. Needless to say like 15 outfits later I’m still not bored by MJ.

Oh and you absolutely MUST use your sketches as a fabric pattern, that would be so cute!!

elva natalia allar - November 20, 2011 - 10:11 pm

First time I ever saw mj was at the mall…a little girl was wearing a knot dress and I could not take my eyes off it. I was filled with mixed emotions. I thought it was ugly and beautiful at the same time. I grew the courage to ask her mom what she was wearing and she told me it was called Matilda jane. Came home did my research and the rest is history. First knot dress for us the katherine dress…

Jami Stargel - November 20, 2011 - 10:11 pm

I bought my very first knot dress spring of 2008 for my first daughter. I went to a trunk show for a friend of mine, not really knowing what to expect. The clothes were DARLING! I had the HARDEST time deciding what I wanted…if only I could remember the name of it!!!! Once she wore the dress, and I started posted pictures, EVERYONE was asking about the clothing. Now, my second daughter wears the knot dress, and we’re still getting all the comments about the adorableness of the clothing. I’m obsessed with Matilda Jane. I personally own a lot of the clothing. My family takes out photos wearing MJ. And, yes, we’re STILL getting the best compliments on the clothing.

Teri Pierce - November 20, 2011 - 10:13 pm

Our first was the Daisy Lace. It was love at first sight. My all time favorite outfit is the Dede & Fiona Peasant Top with the Perry Ruffles. I somehow manage to find it in her size every year. Isn’t it funny how a certain fabric can evoke such emotion. My heart melts every time she wears it. <3 <3 <3

Melissa Pomeranz - November 20, 2011 - 10:15 pm

Our very first knot dress was the Chelsea Sparrow… And it is still my 5yro daughter Eva’s favorite. It’s sentimental to us beyond words… Last year I lost a baby daughter at 16wks gestation. Our children had come with us to the ultrasound to “see the baby”. Instead of dealing with the grief and shock, we had to instead explain to them that baby “Clappy” (what they named the baby in utero) was now in heaven. That spring, baby sparrows began landing at my feet and sitting with me for long periods on our back porch. As sparrows represent rebirth, to me (and Eva) it was a sign that our baby girl was safe and well on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Eva took to leaving the tiniest bit of every meal outside for the sparrows daily. The tiniest cheerio, grape, bit of bread… All for the “Clappy Sparrows”. When we saw the silhouette of the little girl, baby sparrow in hand, we knew that would be Eva’s “Clappy dress”… And so it is. She wore it for her first day of Kidergarten, and it’s very special to her, and to us. It will be saved for her own kids someday.

Holly Collins - November 20, 2011 - 10:21 pm

My first knot was the Mosaic Knot Dress and I hate to admit it but I bought it off of eBay. Being a MJC newbie I had no idea what a truck show or trunk keeper was. A little over a year later I just hosted my first show and am now a Jane! I hope I can help some newbies out as they discover their passion for you amazing clothes.

Rochelle - November 20, 2011 - 10:21 pm

Back to School Felina Knot – still one of my all-time favs!! :) :) :)

Cara Tullio - November 20, 2011 - 10:22 pm

by far the ginger knot is my all time favorite! we wore it for years :) first as a dress then added ruffles and then as a swing tunic top over skinny jeans … swoon <3

Amy Earle - November 20, 2011 - 10:22 pm

I just ordered one this weekend! Can’t wait to get it!

Amy Earle - November 20, 2011 - 10:23 pm

Just ordered one this weekend! So excited to get it!

Leigh Ayn - November 20, 2011 - 10:24 pm

The Percy knot from you & me! The first Matilda Jane I ever bought for my now 1 year old girl. Everyone who sees her in it falls in love.

Monika - November 20, 2011 - 10:28 pm

Love seeing your old sketches!! Grace’s very first knot dress was purchased during the crazy phone sale, remember that? We had to call in to order and the lines were constantly busy… it was spring/summer 2008, I believe. I can’t remember the name of the knot, I think the matching ruffles were called victoria. She’s wearing it in this silly clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRPl1nsaQBg It is still my “heart” dress, so loved it!!

Traci - November 20, 2011 - 10:28 pm

My first knot dress was just purchased off Platinum this week…and I received it yesterday. My 10-month-old daughter looks beyond adorable in her Shortcake! It will be the perfect 1st birthday dress for her!!!

I am new to Matilda Jane. My sister in law
Has been dressing her now 4 year old
Daughter for 4 years with these beautiful
Dresses And I have recently been noticing
Since we live so far away from eachother
I am in California and you just don’t see
Anyone with these adorable clothes. I decided
To host my own trunk show and did great
So I am now waiting for my first tween
Zephyr no knot top . I only have one other
Dress the Bridgette dress and all the
Ladies that came to the show loved my
Girl in that dress. I am thrilled to pass along
This exciting line to everyone I can in CA.

karalisa - November 20, 2011 - 10:32 pm

I hate to say it, but I bought my 1st Matilda Jane piece, an art fair knot dress, on eBay. I stumbled upon this cute little dress and “won” it for a steal. It is a size 2 and it was 2008. It was a bit big then and it still fits now as a top that we paired with Capri jeans this past summer. I love it so much–it will always be my favorite.

Bridget Hansen - November 20, 2011 - 10:47 pm

My daughter’s first knot dress was just this year cause we are new to this amazing line. It’s from the house of clouds line and I can’t remember the name, but we love it. Thanks for making super cute knot dresses! :)

Kristin Z - November 20, 2011 - 10:48 pm

The first knot that I ever purchased was the Eva Rose from Gypsy Blue. This was actually just the second MJ piece that we owned. My oldest daughter does not love knots, so it just sat in the closet for a long while. But her little sister can now wear it, and has deemed it her ‘Mary dress’ (Mary Mary Quite Contrary). It’s one of those pieces that I will never part with, even long after my daughters have outgrown it.

Tonya Abry - November 20, 2011 - 10:49 pm

My first knot was the homegrown ginger knot-so simple and sweet.

Kristin Z - November 20, 2011 - 10:51 pm

The first knot that I ever purchased was the Eva Rose from Gypsy Blue. This was actually just the second MJC item that I had ever owned. My oldest daughter did not take to knots very well, so it sat in the closet for a long while. Her little sister is finally able to fit into it and has deemed it her ‘Mary’ dress (from the ‘Mary Mary Quite Contrary nursery rhyme’). It’s one of the pieces that is worn quite often and is something I will keep in the cedar chest long after the girls have outgrown it.

Jennifer Raymond - November 20, 2011 - 10:54 pm

Our first knot was the Katherine from Field Trip………it was love at first site….

Teoma - November 20, 2011 - 10:56 pm

My first knot dress was the Sparkletown Holiday Knot Dress! I just recently passed it on down to my BFF. :) Sparkeltown was the first Trunk Show I ever went to and just the beginning of my passion for all things MJC! :)

Rachel Hess - November 20, 2011 - 10:58 pm

My first knot dress was not my first MJ piece. I waited. I wanted a knot but I LOVED the GB Chrissy and went that direction for the first thing we bought. So, my first knot was the field trip…Katherine I think?? I remember wondering if I wanted to buy the matching Thelmas since I was so afraid my husband would be mad at me for the $$ spent on ONE outfit for a 1 year old. Well, we got our money’s worth out of that one! lol! The rest is history! I bought the Shasta knot in 3 SIZES so that we would not be without it for a long time…that polka dot ribbon? I was in love! Thanks for the happiness that your knots bring. OH! That reminds me! My all time fave is the Happiness in a Knot!

amy j. - November 20, 2011 - 10:59 pm

i didn’t know about Matilda Jane clothing that long ago to have bought a piece…=(

Mignon - November 20, 2011 - 11:33 pm

I’m a newbie so our first knot dress was house of clouds! We are hooked!

Pamela R. - November 20, 2011 - 11:38 pm

Our first knot dress was the Shasta, LOVE!

Anne M - November 20, 2011 - 11:40 pm

Ours was the Dee Dee knot dress. It’s gone through 2 girls and still fits as a top for my youngest. And that is one of the great things about the knots, a big top can be a dress for a little and a little dress can be a top for a biggie.
But by far out of all our MJ, I love to see the girls in the Scrappy. We have gotten that one in 3 sizes now.
Which reminds me I have a big load of MJ to wash. Yep, MJ gets special treatment and care. All the other clothing is jealous 😉

Emely - November 20, 2011 - 11:40 pm

My first was the Shasta! I remember searching ebay for summer dresses last winter. It was still cold out but I knew I wanted my little girl to wear lots of dresses in the summer. I came upon the most amazing little dress then went on to google the brand! After I found your facebook page I quickly placed my first order with one of your trunkeeprs. I ordered the Shasta knot dress and the Miami Sara top. When I got it in the mail I was in love!!! Needless to say I buy a piece every now and then when the budger permits, Matilda Jane is hands down my favorite brand for my daughter!

Staci Wiemelt - November 20, 2011 - 11:47 pm

Our first knot dressed was a pre-owned Eva Rose, purchased about 3 months ago. Since that time I have made many more MJ purchases, including the Leona knot which is so beautiful, versatile, and most important for my daughter easy to wear and comfortable, with great twirl factor! I am so happy to have found a company I can support that makes beautiful clothing and has such a generous spirit. You inspire me!

Jessica T - November 20, 2011 - 11:54 pm

The knot dress was the first thing I ever purchased from Matilda Jane. It was the Apple Dumpling dress in an 18 mos. size and it was HUGE on my poor little girl, but I just HAD to have it for her! That little girl wears a 6 in Matilda Jane now, oh how time flies! I put the dress in her memory chest. It’s so darling I could never, ever part with it.

Gina Brown - November 21, 2011 - 12:03 am

I began my Matilda Jane collection last year with the second release of House of Clouds. I hosted my first in home show and fell head over heels in love with the whole process! Unfortunately, the gorgeous Shasta Knot was already sold out. :( My amazing TK watched your site for replins and I searched long and hard on the resale boards, but we couldn’t find one. I was desperate to have my daughter’s first knot dress for Easter! One day a very kind mother on a resale board contacted me after seeing my posts and sold me her Shasta just in time for Easter. I was thrilled! I LOVE our Shasta knot and the friendships these beautiful dresses have brought into my life! Thank you!

michelle yager-french - November 21, 2011 - 12:04 am

Art Fair Stella is my Favorite ever (so far) I am really loving out new Over The Rainbow though! Thanks so much for beautiful dresses no matter what they are they rock!!!

Kelly - November 21, 2011 - 12:15 am

The first knot I purchased was for my 5-year-old daughter, and it was the Leona Knot (with Cherry Farm Ruffles!) that I got her for her birthday this year! I just discovered MJ a few months ago, and I so wish I had known about it when she was younger! However, she is very much a girly-girl and I can see her wearing knots and ruffles for many years to come! Fortunately I also have a 2-year-old, and she loves MJ too!

Evy mackland - November 21, 2011 - 12:25 am

I first discovered matilda Jane in 2009. After writing to yourself I managed to order the GB Eva knot in April/ may 2010. My daughter has now outgrown it but it was and remain a favourite – It also ended up being the most expensive item as it got stuck in customs coming into uk. It was with this dress I started my love affair with MJ clothing and the knots remain my favourites with the exception of the gb chrissy which is my all time favourite.

jenhel - November 21, 2011 - 12:38 am

our first knot dress was purchased from the sale in 2008 with my first purchase, Ellie had just turn 3 I wish I could remember the name as we only wore it once and knew the apron look wasn’t for us. Oh but how we loved the newer knots that came with the new
Platinum in the summer of the next year. I think my favorite was the wishy knot and always wished:) I could have gotten a bigger size in that. Ellie’s favorite was the raindrop and I still have the picture of her walking Through Sesame place in that dress. I sit her thinking where did the time go almost three years ago as I will soon have a 6 year old in two days. Thanks for the memories, I am sure there will be more to come.

mimi - November 21, 2011 - 12:49 am

I bought the Flora tiered knot and Polly Pockets in 2007 for Camilla, and the Dandy for Kellee in 2008:)Paisley’s first one was the HB Skye knot top:)

Natalie Will - November 21, 2011 - 2:24 am

Our first MJ knot was Sparkletown Holiday knot dress which we bought last year. Then we got our eyes on Felicia knot dress. Then we got our eyes on pretty much every item in MJC collections, especially platinum pieces. And can’t take our eyes off MJC ever since :)

TrishJ. - November 21, 2011 - 2:57 am

Our first knot came several years ago, the cafeteria Knot. One of the prettiest knots ever! After I did my first show (through a traveling trunk) we were hooked. But my first not i believe was when i had stumbled upon platinum and the cafeteria knot one day….back when platinum wasn’t as busy as these days…

Phuong - November 21, 2011 - 3:21 am

I am definitely a late comer…our first knot dress is the shasta this year. Both girls have it and I don’t think we would ever get rid of it!

Aches Watts - November 21, 2011 - 3:53 am

Our first knot was the Sparkletown Holiday Knot. This amazing dress paired with pink John Deere boots and my dd’s curly-haired top turned heads everywhere we went :)

Jaime Clark - November 21, 2011 - 3:58 am

Hey there! Our first knot dress was for Emmy’s first birthday. We need a special dress for the special occasion! My mom bought it for her and bought her e hat to go along with it. We have the cutest pic and it is still on a frame on my dresser…one of my all time fav pics of my little girlie! I am not sure it had a name, if it did I forget, but I’ll never forget how special she looked on her special day! Love you Denise!

Angela W - November 21, 2011 - 4:14 am

My first knot dress was the Chelsa Knot. Love that it is two dresses!

AnaA - November 21, 2011 - 4:29 am

I bought our very first MJ pieces as we were waiting to get word that we could fly to Vietnam to bring home our daughter. It was 2008. We bought the original Abby Knot, Snappy Scrappy and Light Blue waffle weave ruffles. I STILL have that Abby Knot hanging in her closet and use it as a top. I held onto the Snappy and ruffles for as long as I could and then found them in the next size up. I even remember the 1st time she wore them when we arrived home….we went to IKEA. We could not go 10 feet without someone stopping us to ask if I made the clothes and how could they get me to make something for their daughter!!!! Several years and MANY, MANY more knot dresses later…..it is still our favorite!

christine b - November 21, 2011 - 4:30 am

I can not remember the exact date of our first knot dress but it was the Apple Dumpling…still my favorite because even though she is getting a little older. I hunted down and found the next sizes up :) Those little apples!

zeb's mom - November 21, 2011 - 4:33 am

Our first knot dress was an Artfair Owl dress that we have been lucky enough to size up on. DD has worn that dress in various sizes for the first day of school for three years now…..I love that dress!

Lila's "Bubba" - November 21, 2011 - 4:50 am

2007 I think it was called “April Knot Dress”. It had that great “woo” fabric. We had the matching hat and the little brown cardi too. Always my favorite dress :)

Stacey M - November 21, 2011 - 4:51 am

Our first was the ABBY from the 2008 fall collection. I really wanted the WESTSIDE with the animal print but considering my daughter was only 9 months old at the time I had to go with the 12M
Abby. The Westside seemed to run a little too long. Well as it turns out the Abby was too big also and it was quite a while before she grew into it. And I did eventually get that Westside knot as well as many others. My daughter’s wardrobe is almost all MJ and I STILL HAVE EVERY PIECE OF IT!!! It’s like a collection that I can’t part with,

Tiffany B - November 21, 2011 - 4:54 am

My first knot dress was the chelsa for the little sparrow foundation. We had bought MJ before that, but that was our first “knot” And…we will keep buying them!!!

Jennifer K. - November 21, 2011 - 4:55 am

I can not remember how I stumbled upon Matilda Jane. But, I was so excited that you were in Fort Wayne. I had moved to Pittsburgh and was so happy to dress my little girl in something that was so cute and from home! I know the first things I bought were the cow dress, the scrappy, dress, green twirl skirt and a knot dress. One skirt we can still wear almost four years later!!! We <3 Matilda Jane even more now………..

Michele L. - November 21, 2011 - 5:06 am

I’ve just discovered MJC this year and I’m so sad because my daughter is 8 and we’ve missed some great years of wearing your clothes! With that said, the first knot dress that I’ve purchased was the Leona. We had our fall family photos taken with her wearing that dress & I couldn’t be more pleased with the look. Please continue to make lots of tween sizes for late in life discoveries like myself!

christine - November 21, 2011 - 5:08 am

I’m relatively new to MJC, and so the first knot dress I bought was a Percy from You&Me, 2011. When I saw online, I had ruled it out for ordering…then i saw in person. What a difference – those blue bottles had me! 2 year old daughter wore it to church today and I literally had strangers lining up to compliment me on my cute kids/her dress. I’d like to think my kids are just naturally adorable, but I do think the MJC pushes it over-the-top in cuteness!!!

Shannon T - November 21, 2011 - 5:11 am

I bought my first Matilda Jane outfit about 6 months ago. It was the Gypsy Blue dottie lap dress. After that I was hooked. I went to my first show and fell in love with the Knot dress design. The first Knot dress we bought was this line. I own and Love the Percy Knot dress! My DD looks adorable in MJ (don’t they all!). Now we own quite a few knots.

Julie Frank - November 21, 2011 - 5:14 am

My daughters first Matilda Jane knot dress was the Pepper Knot dress from the Hammond Bay collection. I love the pretty spring colors and floral prints, and It’s still our favorite. I just love how adjustable the knot dresses are- always a perfect fit!

Amanda - November 21, 2011 - 5:24 am

Our first MJ was from Gypsy Blue- the dottie dress with stripey leggings. I thought it was the cutest thing EVER. My mom just thought it didn’t match! Several years later, she gets it! Our first knot dress was a holiday knot, and I still love those fabrics. But my favorite knot is the one she wore yesterday to church- the Ginger- with aqua and reds and browns. I felt like the luckiest gal alive when I scored that on platinum! We must have been told by 3 different people it was the prettiest dress they’d ever seen. And one lady thought my daughter’s name was Matilda Jane- I had labels made for her clothes! Ha!

Heather Gruber - November 21, 2011 - 5:27 am

My first one was the Leona knot dress for my daughter in September. She loves that there are no buttons and I love that I can adjust the height on it for her! So cute and fun!

Katie - November 21, 2011 - 5:35 am

I believe it was Fall 2008. I went to a friend’s trunk show….and fell in love w/ the pink lola legwarmers and velma ruffles. I then HAD to have my own trunk show…which led to me investing in the “Cafeteria Plan” – where I one gets surprised with a knot dress. It came – and it was PERFECT for THANKSGIVING – which happened to be the next week! :-)

Shannon Hunt - November 21, 2011 - 5:36 am

Silver Lining off platinum. And my daughter wore it yesterday for her 3rd birthday party. I may try to post a pic on your wall :)

kim thompson - November 21, 2011 - 5:39 am

my first knot dress was a platinum one! the ginger knot dress. it was love at first sight and i knew it would be great for my daughters 5th birthday! our closet has gotten bigger since that day( grown with the fabric’s of MJ) :)

Meribeth Gilbert - November 21, 2011 - 5:42 am

my first knot? embarassed to say it is the leona knot! (GASP!) And since buying 3 of them (yes, 3 girls UNDER 3! – GASP!) I have bought 5 more from sweet mommas – MJC clothes are wonderful! I love how I can dress my twins alike, and get a coordinating outfit for “big” sister!

Jennifer Weiher - November 21, 2011 - 5:43 am

My first knot dress for my daughter was the Flecia. It was so cute I had to have it. My daughter gets so many complements. It was the first Matilda Jane piece I ever bought! I am now officially addicted!!!!!!!

Nancy - November 21, 2011 - 5:53 am

I was given my first knot dress as a gift from a sweet friend. She got my girls the Eva and tullah knots for them to match. These pieces were actually my first MJ pieces too…and now we are hooked!

Stephanie Volk - November 21, 2011 - 5:53 am

My first Knot Dress was the “May” knot dress…….I think you made a new one every month and this was the first month I bought one, thus the “May” knot! Just as the trunk keeper promised – it fit her forever and is still one my all time favorite peices!

Stephanie

Alison Schmidt - November 21, 2011 - 5:55 am

My first MJ knot dress was Leona Knot Dress from the You and Me Collection this year, 2011. I’ve had my eye on Matilda Jane Clothing for a while. Finally hosted a trunk show, and purchased my first two outfits for my two girls. That was Halloween weekend of this year. Since then, I’ve loved my purchases, and keep going back for more!!!!

Alyssa Parkinson - November 21, 2011 - 6:01 am

My first knot was Felicia from the Sugarland Collection. I bought it as a sample and my daughter loves the apron and all the buttons across the front.

Kristy W. - November 21, 2011 - 6:04 am

Our first knot dress was the Holiday Knot (purchased in 2010). While browsing the Good Luck Trunk, I found that beautiful piece. This knot still remains as one of my favorite dresses, ever.

Kristy W. - November 21, 2011 - 6:05 am

Our first knot dress was the Holiday Knot (purchased in 2010). While browsing the Good Luck Trunk, I found that beautiful piece. The Holiday Knot still remains as one of my favorite dresses, ever.

Courtney W - November 21, 2011 - 6:06 am

We are new Matilda Jane lovers and our first knot purchase was the Lola knot this past summer. My daughter wore it for her first day of preschool…now our collection has GROWN as she refused to wear anything but Matilda Jane!

hallie garrett - November 21, 2011 - 6:09 am

the first time i got some MJ was when yall had a huge sale online, it was really the first time i could afford to get some pieces. i think it was 2 years ago and we got the butterbee lap dress, the gypsy blue skirt, the solid gold tee and a little pink polka dot tee with matilda jane on the front. i was so excited to have several pieces!

Janelle Howe - November 21, 2011 - 6:16 am

I can’t even tell you the name of my favorite knot because I didn’t even know what Matilda Jane was when I saw it on a little girl in Glenbrook Mall. It was beautiful, with pinks, greens and I am sure more colors. It was the dress that first sparked my interest in Matilda Jane, about 3 years ago and I have been in trouble ever since! The favorite knot that I have bought would have to be the Hammond Bay Pepper Knot Dress. Adorable! I love Matilda Jane!

Erica - November 21, 2011 - 6:17 am

I first bought a knot this past season, the Leona knot. We had bought other pieces previously but not a knot.

deanna - November 21, 2011 - 6:24 am

My first knot was the hotline alice knot top that I purchased during one of your sales. I had recently discovered your company and was so excited to learn about the sale as I was able to try out a few different items that were new to us (ruffle pants, knot top)! Thanks!

Andi - November 21, 2011 - 6:24 am

Well, I was invited to my first trunk show for the opening of Hotline….so my first knot was the Daisy Lace Knot Dress. And, since I can never bring myself to sell my girls’ clothes, we still have it!! Thankfully I have two girls, so the youngest can now wear it!! Love it!! Love Matilda Jane!!

Sarah S - November 21, 2011 - 6:29 am

Our first knot ever was a top not a dress and it was the Bailey Knot Top from Gypsy Blue, my girls were almost one at the time. That’s when the addiction began. Our first actual Knot Dress was the Pepper Knot from Hammond Bay, it may still be my all time favorite Knot Dress.

Gretchen Denham - November 21, 2011 - 6:33 am

I started buying matilda jane a little over a year ago. I did not buy my first knot dress until this past release and I got my daughter, Bentley, the perci knot! I liked it so much, I also got the Leona!!!

Amy Littlefield - November 21, 2011 - 6:39 am

I bought Willa’s first knot dress in October 2010. It was a Platinum piece just called a tiered knot dress. When it arrived I put it on Willa right away. She immediately began to turn around and swish the dress with her hands. She was almost 18 months old, how did she know to do that? The dress was so beautiful and girly. We were both smitten, and still are, a year later, with every new piece we buy.

Moriah @ Please Pass the Salt - November 21, 2011 - 6:39 am

I’ll try not to get all gung ho nostalgic on you but it was the Hotline Parker knot, and Madeline wore it to her first Mother’s Day Tea a couple of years ago. I eve remember she had pink ribbons in her hair. She probably spilled her tea but I forget those parts. 😉

Diane Hornquist - November 21, 2011 - 6:43 am

Ahhh. The Daisy Lace knot was our first, seems like it was 2009. It was too big at first but we grew to love it!! Especially with those pink posie ruffs!

Erin Breeden - November 21, 2011 - 6:48 am

My first was the spring 2007 knot. It was simple and beautiful.

Julie R - November 21, 2011 - 6:53 am

Back to School Felina knot dress!!!

MCT - November 21, 2011 - 6:57 am

The Eva Rose Knot Dress and it is still my very favorite. Oodles and oodles of compliments everytime she wears it. I love the pink, blues, and polka dot material. It is perfection!!

Becky - November 21, 2011 - 7:00 am

After two boys, I finally have a little girl. We just bought our first knot dress this fall – the Percy Knot Dress. It is absolutely adorable!

Camille - November 21, 2011 - 7:01 am

I was drawn to Matilda Jane because of the knots dresses. They are so unique from anything else I had seen. My first knot dress was the Westside Fern in Pink knot dress. It still is one of my favorite piece of MJC!

Sharron - November 21, 2011 - 7:05 am

The first knot I purchased for my grand daughter was the Eva Rose Knot dress and it was and still is my favorite Matilda Jane dress. Thank you for sharing your time and talents with all of us.

Sharon Scott - November 21, 2011 - 7:05 am

I was on maternity leave with my daughter when I purchased my 1st MJC knot dress. I found it on ebay as I was unfamiliar with MJ. It is the VIOLET KNOT dress from the Home Grown 2008 collection. My daughter wore it as a dress and as she out grew it she wore it as a top under jeans. I still have it as it my FAVORITE MJ piece I have. After that 1st MJ piece on ebay, I have been ordering from my TK for years and have LOVED all my MH purchases.

kari - November 21, 2011 - 7:05 am

Our first knot dress was the Pepper. Almost two years later we still wear it. Not as a dress, but as a top. And, baby sister will get her use out of it also!

Kristin - November 21, 2011 - 7:06 am

Our first MJC knot dress-well actually our first MJC ever-was the March Violet knot from Homegrown. My daughter was only 2 at the time….now she is 5, how time flies! I will never forget how adorable she was as a little toddler in that dress though, and I love that she is still rocking MJC today! :)

Amber Leugs - November 21, 2011 - 7:11 am

The first dress we bought was the Homegrown Ginger Knot and the Celery ruffles. We bought them at a Trunk Show from Christy I.!

Now I’m buying things for my daughter too, the items we had for my sister will be passed down to her.

Kim Childers - November 21, 2011 - 7:13 am

Although we had been wearing MJ for a while, our first knot purchase was the Leona Knot. I didn’t think I was a fan of knots, boy, was I mistaken! I had to quickly get the Percy after that!!! Love them!

Lori G. - November 21, 2011 - 7:17 am

I was first introduced to MJ during the Gypsy Blue release….how lucky I was, what a beautiful collection. Our first knot…Eva Rose Knot Dress, we are still wearing it after 2 years and it looks brand new!!

Jennifer Phillips - November 21, 2011 - 7:20 am

The sweet Apple Dumpling knot. I see it in the closet and it makes me smile every time thinking of my little girl running through the orchard looking for the perfect apple to match the beauties on the apron.

Laura A. - November 21, 2011 - 7:22 am

My first knot dress AND MJ purchase was the Gypsy Blue Museum Dress. That was I think 3 years ago… and my daughter who is now 6 is STILL wearing and loving it! Thank you!

Tammy Kendall - November 21, 2011 - 7:22 am

Our first Knot Dress was for my oldest daughter who is now 12 years old it was the Ginger Knot still one of our favorites and Ive had to hunt it down for my youngest daughter in 2 sizes.

Julie Templeton - November 21, 2011 - 7:23 am

Our first was the pepper knot. We love your clothes!

Conni M - November 21, 2011 - 7:27 am

We bought our first MJ just last year … Our first ‘knot dress’ was the Pepper Knot Dress … Sami still wears it all the time and we get tons of compliments whenever she does!!

Gretchen Carrel - November 21, 2011 - 7:33 am

My first MJ dress was the Stella in Blue knot dress! I fell in love at first sight. I had to convince my hubby it was worth every penny! But he soon grew to LOVE MJ as much as me and my girls Katie and Lizzie :)

Tina - November 21, 2011 - 7:36 am

The name of our first knot has slipped my mind, but it goes w/ the October ruffles(which are my favorite colors now~brown&turqoiuse) which were our first MJ purchase only because they were on sale. I told myself then that I would only by MJ on sale! lol Little did I know then that I would get hooked on cuteness & unpredictable! love it!

Alison Stewart - November 21, 2011 - 7:44 am

Our first knot was the Daisy Mae from Hotline! It will ALWAYS hold a very special place in my heart. I will never forget the adorable images of my little sassypants in that dress. She has grown so much and so has our love for MJC.

Dawn R - November 21, 2011 - 7:47 am

Our first knot was bought with our first MJ order ever…the Phoney Knot to go with the polkie flares:) I remember hanging up the phone and being so excited but so very sick at how much I had just spent on clothes for a 3 year old! Needless to say, the clothes won and my checkbook has lost over the past few years….it was LOVE at first sight!!

Kim Smith - November 21, 2011 - 7:51 am

My first knot was the Tullah Knot that I bought from the Good Luck Trunk. I bought two, one for my 4 year old and the other for my newborn to grow into. The minute my 4 year old daughter laid her eyes on it I could see the sparkle in her eye. We had been battling for 2 years to find something we both were happy for her to wear. Finally, we found it. And, the rest is history:)

Andimum - November 21, 2011 - 7:53 am

my all time Fav-O-Rite has to be a funky mushroom apron knot dress (not sure it had a name?) purchased from the Canton Art Fair quite a few years ago with the matching Thistle Ruffles…i have never seen another like it! it is the one set i have not “passed on” to another lucky mjc gal…it is beyond precious…and the colorway is absolutely TDF!!! i have been purchasing mjc wear for my gals (and my dude, too:) for over 7 years now…(btw…my 10 yr. old requests larger sizes for the tweens…she is almost outgrowing the 12s and is heartbroken…she says “matilda rocks!”). thanks for the years of cuteness and envious stares…

rajitha s - November 21, 2011 - 7:56 am

i bought the Katherine Knot Dress as soon as i found out i was having my daughter Ashalia, i couldn’t wait to take pictures of her in it!! it gets the most compliments!:)

Ann - November 21, 2011 - 7:56 am

Our first knot was the Westside knot for my then two year old daughter and is still by far, my favorite. Amazing combinations of fabrics with the blues, pinks and blacks. Please bring back some animal print!!

Kari Bennett - November 21, 2011 - 8:00 am

Teagen’s first knot was the pilot knot. It was WAY too big for her but I was so excited to have it. I still love it and we still have it, along with a ton more!

Molly M - November 21, 2011 - 8:08 am

My 1st knot was the Anticipation pure love knot. Still one of my favorites and one I’ll be keeping to pass down to my sister when my girls out grow it.

Crystal Yoder - November 21, 2011 - 8:17 am

Sophie’s first knots were the GB Bailey knot top and the GB museum knot bought off of another mom…the museum knot is still a favorite, just amazing! :)

Lynne Hahn - November 21, 2011 - 8:25 am

I bought Emily’s first knot dress off of Platinum. I don’t know the name. She wore that dress every week becaue I loved it and it was the first dress she would wear! I saw your clothes on a blog and just could not figure out how to get them. After making a request on your website, I met the most amazing trunkkeeper and friend, and have been hooked ever since. <3

Steph S. - November 21, 2011 - 8:27 am

i fell in love with katherine’s knot dress last fall when i went to my very first MJ trunk show. i was full of skepticism and went with a friend. i had looked online and thought, ‘maybe’ i’ll find something for my then four year old daughter. i walked in, saw the rack, met katherine and her beautiful ribbon that circled her, and *sigh*, that was it. i was in love. since then, my daughter has many mj pieces, so do i, however, when i see katherine in the closet and shiver blue tee near by, i just melt. i don’t know how it took me four years to find you, matilda jane, but oh how i adore thee. you’ve given me back my style, a new fresh and confident one, but more than that, you’ve highlighted my daughter’s beauty—inside and out. thankful that my daughter looks sweet and age appropriate in the timeless and simple beauty of matilda jane. looking forward to spring to fall in love with new beauties for her and my three year old lad-FiNaLlY!!! as always, xo.

Rebekah - November 21, 2011 - 8:28 am

The first knot dress I ever bought for Hannah was at the 2010 art fair. I do not know the name of it, but it is still one of our favorites. It was hanging on a manikin in the size 8’s and I asked Sam if I could by it. I was in love… It has the most beautiful dark blues, fuscia’s, oranges, lime green, turquoise… It no longer fits as a dress, but looks so cute with a shirt under and ruffles to go with it. It is one of those dresses that is perfect for summer and it looks beautiful in the winter too. Thanks so much for the beautiful clothes!!!

Jackie Huhn - November 21, 2011 - 8:36 am

Our first knot dress was the Eva Rose Knot! Still my favorite piece and I will NEVER let it go! My oldest daughter was 3 at the time and, luckily, I have another daughter who is now 2! She will also be able to wear it for years to come! THANK YOU so much for all the unique and lovely clothes you design/make. My daughters always look AMAZING!!!!! Oh yea, thank for the lovely mommy clothes as well. We LOVE to coordinate!

Jen Kido - November 21, 2011 - 8:37 am

My very 1st MJ purchase was a knot dress. It was the cow knot dress from westside. I’ve now had that dress in 3 sizes, lol! & there are very few pieces from each line since that I haven’t bought!!

Addy Van Anne - November 21, 2011 - 8:50 am

My daughter’s first knot dress was a cafeteria knot. So I don’t think it has a name other then a cafeteria knot. I was in love as soon as I opened it. It is now getting a little short as a dress but she still loves to wear it as a top. I will keep it forever in her keepsake box.

cami - November 21, 2011 - 8:54 am

I bought the Bailey Knot dress before my daughter was even born. I knew that I wanted her to wear it this past Easter. I bought a 12 month and she did wear it the past Easter and she looked oh so cute! Thank you for making special clothes for our special girls!

Amy K - November 21, 2011 - 8:55 am

My first ever knot dress was the Ginger Knot Dress….LOVED IT! I also remember getting the Violet knot and Dandy knot from that same Spring Season. Still my favorites…still have the 12 month Violet just because I can’t allow myself to sell it:)) The Fall Season before this Spring was when my addiction started!:))

Megan - November 21, 2011 - 8:57 am

Asher’s very first knot was the Ginger from HomeGrown– we still have it– for some odd reason, no way would it fit her now, yet I just have an attachment to it and the way it makes me feel looking at it, seeing her in my mind the first time she wore it and how young she was- our only child then. Every piece/fabric of that dress was perfect- the original red apron was TDF with her sweet blue eyes and blonde hair.

It has been our only knot from a trunk line, all our others have been plat or art fair. So far just havent been able to top that best piece in my heart/memories

I hello H. Clark - November 21, 2011 - 9:03 am

Daisy Lace Knot & Goldie Ruffles from Hotline. I was in heaven and even emailed you our Easter pictures cause I was so proud! You even emailed back! This was before Facebook, of course! Thanks for the clothes, BUT thank you MORE for the special feeling!

Tonya Myers - November 21, 2011 - 9:06 am

Mr. Ollie knot dress. It was bought off eBay the spring of 2009 because I had no idea how else to buy it. I bought a 2 for my 18 month old, Molly Kate, and she wore it for 2 years until I bought the size 4. I bought it because I love Daisies!

JodiRandolph - November 21, 2011 - 9:08 am

Ours was the Jane Exclusive Smart Knot dress from Sack Lunch. We wore it over the Dusty Velmas and the Dolly tee. Pure love.

brandi crowell - November 21, 2011 - 9:22 am

I actually got my first 2 knot dresses off platinum in fall 2010 – the lorali and the tiered knot, the only plat i have ever scored to this day. But we love, love, love them. They were too big then but fit great now!!

Michelle H. Clark - November 21, 2011 - 9:46 am

My name is Michelle (Shelley) H. Clark, not “I Hello” Gotta love that iPhone autocorrect!

Kristin Taron - November 21, 2011 - 9:51 am

I bought my first knot dress a few years back, it was the Abby knot. I have been hooked with these beautiful clothes ever since!! :)

Krista Masellis - November 21, 2011 - 9:54 am

Love the stories behind the knots, the sketches,
& the MJC label that we all love…one of my favorite
things about the clothes (: It was the Sparkletown
Knot that drew us in! Thx for the cuteness!!

Tracy - November 21, 2011 - 9:59 am

Oh, I got to actually meet you at one of your last Art Fair appearances! Indy, and it was a Holiday Mart or Christmas Fair at the Fairgrounds when my Emma was almost two (she’s a sprite seven now!) She got the most beautiful knot top with deep velvet browns, ruffles, and a fluffy pink top underneath that she called her “poodle shirt!” Plus a hat to match!! I was in LOVE! I also scored my first Charcoal Momma ruffles that you had just cut to match her brown ruffles, and the rest is a story that takes us well over 200 pieces and on our way to 300! I still own nearly every one save a few that I’ve given as gifts since I can’t part with any of them! So, I have quite the MJC Art Collection from size 2 through 6 plus some vintage pieces that I’ve found along the way (with tags “inside” the label!!) I have some ruffles with grosgrain belts and a very cute pink cowhide coat that was very early art fair!! We just love, love, love you all!!! :~)

Kara Proffitt - November 21, 2011 - 10:06 am

My first knot dress purchase was the PERCY KNOT in the first release of You & Me! That was the first time she could actually wear the 12m size and it was my favorite purchase when she put it on! It was just the cutest thing ever with the apple!

Roxanne Kendrick - November 21, 2011 - 10:08 am

My first knot was in July 2011…I was so excited to get a platinum piece! It has no name that I know of, but has a blue doggie pattern with green polka dots on the hem and a green and turquoise bodice..absolutely adorable!

Amber Vaughn - November 21, 2011 - 10:17 am

Oh Matilda Jane… Unpredictable, beautiful, and fun.
The first time I ever saw a Matilda Jane was at a consignment sale in Portland OR. I bought it because i had never seen anything like it… The knotts AWSOME. Think it’s anORIGINAL MaTILDA JaNE APPLE Knott Dress but it was my first. Honestly I love that my girls can wear these dresses while they jump puddles catch frogs and caterpillars and everything unpredictable a girl likes to do. Thank u for clothes that inspire. New favorite is the Percy Knot dress.

Ashley J - November 21, 2011 - 10:18 am

Our first knot was from Hotline, the Daisy Lace knot with the polkie flare leggings. Loved it!

Carrie Verb - November 21, 2011 - 10:28 am

Mine was one of the Fern knot dresses. I saw it on another little girl and just had to have one like it!!! My daughter was two at the time and I was so tired of shopping at the mall stores! I love how you are able to put fabrics together that probably no one else would use on little girls clothing and make it head turning adorable!

Sarah Cline - November 21, 2011 - 10:31 am

Our first knot was the Gypsy Blue knot dress, and that was 3 years ago this December I believe! WOW! How time flies!

Ashley Krissman - November 21, 2011 - 10:31 am

Our very first knot dress and MJC purchase EVER was the Tullah Tiered knot dress from the Gypsy Blue collection! And like others have said, my daughter had never before had a dress like this and somehow just knew it was perfect for twirling. She was 2 then and since we have been smitten with MJC love! So perfectly happy to have found MJC for both of us!

Laine Yount - November 21, 2011 - 10:44 am

I’m new-ish to Matilda Jane, just started buying in May. Our first knot is actually the first thing I ever “caught” on Plat, our Wonderland knot. I was so stinkin excited to finally witness a Plat upload, and then to have carted such a beautiful knot…I think I walked around cheesing for days (while secretly dreading a sold out!) My daughter will wear it for her 2nd birthday in January, and the theme will be a “Winter Wonderland” inspired by that gorgeous knot…we are so in love with everything MJC, and I can’t imagine anything else for my girls to wear on our most special occasions.

Julie Evans - November 21, 2011 - 10:48 am

My first knot dress was years ago … and it didn’t have a name. It was worn by my baby girl and it’s one of the few pieces I haven’t been able to let go of. It is now in a hope chest for her to do as she pleases someday.

Carla - November 21, 2011 - 11:06 am

My first knot dress was from the Hotline collection – I don’t remember the name, but my favorite has always been the museum dress. Thank goodness I have two daughters and my youngest is able to wear that dress now. It is amazing!

april fine - November 21, 2011 - 11:35 am

I feel in love with Matilda Jane clothing in 2007… the first knot dresses I ever bought my daughter were the Flora knot and the April knot (my name is also April so I liked that) and to this day they’re both still my most favorite knots. I try to find one or the other every year in Sadie’s size because I just think she looks so beautiful in them. I am going to be so sad when she finally outgrows my beloved knots.

Gran - November 21, 2011 - 11:43 am

I know that the first Matilda Jane to be bought for our granddaughter was 4 years ago, size 4 knot dresses. They were all so cute that I cannot tell you which one we bought. I do know that her Pop loved picking her up from preschool and taking her out to eat and/or shop and hearing all of the wonderful comments. We are up to size 8 and have had several favorites through the years. Will be starting our new granddaughter Sara Elizabeth on her MJC clothes in a few months.

Katie Tartt - November 21, 2011 - 11:57 am

My first knot dress was the Percy knot from You & me collection. My good friend & photographer had purchased the dress for her upcoming Matilda Jane truck show announcement photograph. The photographer’s sister buys a lot of MJ so my friend wanted to photograph the unique dress on my daughter. My daughter was the model & I bought the dress from my friend. I am very new to Matilda Jane & really love the clothes!
Thanks for considering!
Katie

Shanna S. - November 21, 2011 - 12:10 pm

My first knot was the Westside Abby knot from 2008 and I still love thisdress and may never let it go. That knot began my love for ALL things MJ!

Jen - November 21, 2011 - 12:16 pm

I bought our first knot dress about 4 years ago..can’t believe it’s been that long..don’t remember the name of it but we still have it waiting for the last girl to wear.

Noelle Farah - November 21, 2011 - 12:16 pm

First knot – the Chelsa off of platinum. Not too old but a definite favorite!!

Carolyn Oppenheim - November 21, 2011 - 12:27 pm

Our first knot was the Megan knot and I bought it from a wonderful prior owner – I just loved all the colors! It made me so happy; and I was just as happy to pass it along to another beautiful little girl when we outgrew it. Now I have a second daughter and so our knots get a little more love. It makes my heart sing to pull out a knot that my older daughter and I loved and put it on my younger one. The memories of the times we wear them make them even more special the second time around. :)

Kelly Nett - November 21, 2011 - 12:39 pm

my first knot dress was the Katherine from the Field Trip line, it was quickly followed by the felecia knot from the holiday line. i had just been to my first party when it was released, i didn’t know anything about MJ or knots, but as soon as i saw the katherine it was love at first sight. I love all the knots on my daughter, but that is still my fav.

Lindsey Tompkins - November 21, 2011 - 12:41 pm

Believe it or not, my first Matilda Jane knot dress was found at my local Goodwill. I have not yet seen one like it. A true one of a kind. The most amazing part of the story is that someone’s donation is the reason I discovered Matilda Jane. I obviously fell in love with the dress. When my youngest daughter outgrew it this year, I returned the favor and donated it back. Hopefully a new mommy will discover M.J.C, as I did. Thanks!

Denise - November 21, 2011 - 12:59 pm

Tracey-
Oh, my gosh..I loved that pink cow coat!! Ohh..so dang cute

Emily Wood - November 21, 2011 - 1:05 pm

Our first knot was the Skye Knot Top. Loved that top, wore it until it was way too tiny to wear anymore!

Anne L. - November 21, 2011 - 1:35 pm

our first knot was the westside knot dress. It was that knot that made me fall in love with MJ. Man. that was so long ago….it brings back so many cute memories.

Jenni Broyles - November 21, 2011 - 1:53 pm

Hmmm…I love ALL the knot dresses, but my favorite was the Fresh Yama…it was simple, but unique! I bought my first knot dress 3 years ago…it was my first MJC piece.

Kacey - November 21, 2011 - 1:57 pm

Our first knot dress was the Art Fair Tiered Raindrops Knot Dress. LOVED IT :)

jennifer g. g. - November 21, 2011 - 2:08 pm

My first knot was the Mr. ollie , It wasnt my first purchase, but my 1st knot. Every time my daughter wore it someone had to comment on how adorable she and the outfit were. She is now 8 and I hope she doesn’t get to grown up for MJC because I still love it.

Amber L - November 21, 2011 - 2:17 pm

Our first knot was the shasta :) We love it! A great mix of colors! We recently aquired it because we just found about Matilda Jane a few months ago!! We hope to own more knots in the future!

Lynne Kelly - November 21, 2011 - 2:19 pm

My first knot was just last year. It was the April knot off of platinum with all the zoo animals and the sweet little pockets. My daughter loves it still although we have added many to her closet!
Thanks for making clothes that simply add to the sweetness of childhood!
Lynne Kelly

Stephanie O'Connor - November 21, 2011 - 3:13 pm

Eva Rose Knot dress is the sweetest, cutest and well loved knot item. Love me knot!

L. Miller - November 21, 2011 - 3:33 pm

My first knot dress came from ebay and that it when I discovered MJ and the crazy thing was…I thought that was the only place I could find MJ. I shortly discovered after that time that you had a website where I could really do some shopping. I bought my dd the guacamole tiered knot dress and I LOVED it. It was beautiful and it by far the best thing I had ever purchased. I loved it so much that even though I had something for her to wear…she wore it for her first year pictures. That dress changed things forever because all we wear now is MJ and we have loved MJ ever since! Thanks for making such beautiful pieces and making my daughter feel like the princess she is!

Maria Bellot - November 21, 2011 - 3:54 pm

My first knot was purchased off ebay! I buy almost all my daughters clothes second hand from consignment stores & ebay. I fell in love with that dress & cannot part with it! Maybe he daughter will wear it someday!

Debbie Burke - November 21, 2011 - 4:19 pm

Our first knot dress was for my oldest daughter, Lily. And it was the Eva Rose Knot Dress. It was unlike anything I had ever laid my hands and eyes on. I remember finding your website, falling in love with all the pieces and then having to wait for it to reopen for the sale in 2010. I read the explanation to the right of the dress that explained how knot dresses had come about. I was totally naive and thought…hmmm I’m buying the first knot dress she ever made right here. whoo-hooo. =)

Sandy - November 21, 2011 - 4:55 pm

I totally love ALL your knot dresses! Just found MJC recently and had to purchase a knot…my very first was the Sparky! Oh so cute! Thank you designing more of these beauties…my little girl loves them…spec. With those adorable aprons!

Sandy - November 21, 2011 - 4:57 pm

Oh we love Matilda Jane! Just found your website and had to buy the Sparky for my little girL. Those aprons are so adorable too! Thank you for designing so many beautiful forget-me-knots!

Sandy - November 21, 2011 - 5:01 pm

Oops! Had a problem posting a comment so there’s a duplicate…is there a way to delete my first comment…sorry about that.

Renae Kulak - November 21, 2011 - 5:10 pm

Our First Knot was the Shasta. We Love it. Believe it or not we are VERY late to the Wonderful World of Matilda Jane. My daughter is 9 yrs old. We just started our MJ collection 3 months ago. I was getting very fustrated with the clothing that is out there for girls her age. There was no way that I wanted my daughter wearing the same thing that a 16 yr old is wearing. I wanted to stay with classics for Girls to be Girls. We have done the gap, crew cuts and so forth. BUT I am VERY happy to report that my 9 yr old wants to wear MJ everyday. Our collection is growing VERY slowly and I hope that we can continue to wear your beautiful clothing. Thank You so much for keeping our girls Beautiful. I posted a picture of my daugther wearing her Shasta on your FB page last week for Holiday pictures.

Ashley Stinson - November 21, 2011 - 5:29 pm

Our first MJ was the Parker Knot which I bought off a friend 3 yrs ago. Loved the details, so different, so fun. I was hooked!

Ashley E - November 21, 2011 - 5:46 pm

My first knot dress was the Eva Rose from Gyspy Blue. We still own it, I just CANNOT sell it!

MelissaM - November 21, 2011 - 5:58 pm

The Museum Knot Dress was our very first MJ purchase! It looks the same as it did when we purchased it almost 2 years ago! :)

Rachael Holloman - November 21, 2011 - 6:01 pm

I just purchased my first MJ knot dress for my youngest daughter yesterday! I just recently began buying MJ about three months ago and I think that I love it as much for ME as I do for my two little girls! Thank you so much!

elisabeth R - November 21, 2011 - 6:26 pm

Our first MJC piece was the Hotline lap dress but our first knot was the Katherine knot dress that my daughter will wear again for Thanksgiving. LOVE IT!!!

aubrey lofgren - November 21, 2011 - 7:26 pm

Our first knot dress was also our first piece of MJ! It was the Platinum Pink Knot from last summer. Got it in the mail & fell in love, the rest is history. When Shilah outgrew it, I resold it & instantly regretted that decision. Though it didn’t fit her any longer I tracked down the same size in it & rebought it for her keepsake box:). And then I also found it in the next size up so we could love it some more!!

Annmarie Walker - November 21, 2011 - 8:13 pm

Well, honestly, the first knot dress I got was the shasta knot dress…..but I had wanted knot dresses for years. I finally got to a place in my life that allowed me luxury to buy Matilda Jane Clothing. I have 3 small girls (4 yr old twins, 3 yr old) and this spring and fall I bought each of them an entire outfit. I have never been more proud and the knot dresses are hands down my favorite. The knot dress to me is Matilda Jane. Luv them!!

Lindsey Glenn - November 21, 2011 - 11:23 pm

I love the look of your clothes! So casual and chick. Yay for being a girl!!

dina S - November 22, 2011 - 1:06 am

My daughter is now 5 years old and I bought her first knot when she was two. It was the Peace Knot. My daughter since the day she was born has always been very stubborn and strong willed and temperamental and emotional and high-strung and loud and well.. you get my drift. I remember putting the knot on her and trying somehow to will the spirit and essence of the name (peace) into her. Can’t say that it worked but my stubborn, strong willed, temperamental, emotional, high strung and loud two year old looked darn cute raising all kinds of heck in her Peace Knot!

Katie Lou Blanton - November 22, 2011 - 8:37 am

Our first knot dress (which we wore as both a dress and top for a loooong time) was the GB Bailey knot. I was so sad when my daughter outgrew it!

virginie daguise - November 22, 2011 - 1:22 pm

My first knot dress was from the You and Me collection. the one with the Apple on the aron nd all the cute bottles on the skirt with the ribbon that says “two peas in a pod…”. I can’t keep up with all of the adorable names!

Dawn - November 22, 2011 - 3:55 pm

First knot was from GB, the Fiona? Not sure if that’s the name, but we still have it, still wear it and still LOVE it! Thanks for the wonderfulness:)

Julie - November 23, 2011 - 5:16 am

Fern in Pink was my first and I’ve been hooked ever since!!!

Maranda Benckendorf - November 24, 2011 - 5:55 pm

I bought my first Matilda Jane knot dress at art fair 2011. I was so nervous standing in line as a newbie waiting to get in. But now I am hooked, and the first time I dressed my daughter in her gorgeous knot I felt like such a cool mom!
