I went to bed last night telling myself “There is much to be done, you cannot be sick, you have to wake up ready to conquer the to do list”. I got up bright and early, well, 8:10, washed my face, brushed my teeth and put my hair in a pony tail. Good to go. Pulled out the vacuum, mopped, did the dishes, brushed the cat and swept all over again. I cannot work or even focus on thinking if my house is messy. Can’t do it.
It took me 2 days to get over the jet lag from my trip home from China late last Saturday afternoon . It is always hit or miss. Sometimes you snap right back into things and sometimes not. Then I got that darn cold. Lynette calls it the “plane sickness”. She may be right, she usually is. That sums up my week cuz I am still sick but today I have no time for feeling bad, too much to do plus now David is sick. And poor Gabe has had a cold all week. He woke up Wednesday crying his mouth hurt, I just figured it was congestion. Two hours later he is getting a tooth pulled and now 4 days later he still looks like he got in a fight with a bruiser. He is still swollen. Joe? Well, he is still sweet Joe. I was up late last night trying to get in work mode and around 11:30 he asked me if we could run to get a drink. So we did. He was so funny. He kept calling the real estate agent a tour guide. I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about but then I realized. So goofy!
Oh, and speaking of Joe, if you get a second check out the video I posted on FB. I was looking through old pics and found it. I am so amazed at how far Joe’s leg has developed since he was 3. Yes, we got his tendon lengthened so he is flat footed but my gosh, the difference it huge. Now I understand why people used to stop and tell me Joe was limping. It is crazy! All smiles here. I am so excited to see how far he has come.
I am actually so excited about how far we have all come.

By time 435 Art Fair rolls around we should be moved into our new building. It’s kinda bittersweet but that is a story for another day. It’s a positive move but I just love 435. The good thing is it will give us more space at 435 for the Art Fair. My plan is to start setting up this week. Yup, we are so far ahead of the game which is good cuz I will be gone from May 18-June 16.
I am can hardly wait to meet Mitzi from Livie and Luca. She has been so open and helpful to me and my team in so many areas. I love when I can find someone in the same field that ‘just get’s it”. No question, just the same “sigh” that shows she feels it to!
My question to you is. how many of you are excited to meet Mitzi? Cuz I really think it’d be fun to take a few of you and Mitzi and her crew to lunch to talk shop. I’ve never done this before but I kinda feel like it’d be cool. Maybe on Saturday afternoon before you take your Post party nap. Let me know your thoughts so I can see if we can plan something. We have a few other pretty cool people coming so certainly leave me your thoughts cuz it may be cool to add in a little workshop of sorts….

My friend and I planned on coming this year…then I found out I was pregnant with twins…so we can’t make it. Everytime there is talk about AF I kinda get sad, but it will be worth it…maybe next year
What a great idea!!! Every year the 435 experience is amazing. Adding a workshop would be so exciting. I would love to spend some time with such creative minds!
Wow! That sounds like an amazing idea! As a small business owner, I love to be able to “pick the brain” of other successful women business owners. We can learn so much from each other! What a great opportunity!
A meeting of “the minds”……..Count me in!!! Would love to feel the energy and watch the creative juices flow
I think that would be a great idea lunch with the livie luca crew… It would be awesome just to see all the great ideas the 2 of you could come up with…
I’m totally thinking about it. Just a round table of 15-20 so we can really talk do some good Q&A.
I would love to join you!
Mad Anthonys??
i would L-O-V-E to have the chance to do this! to meet and chat with this group would be like a creative super summit – inspiring and enlightening, and could put some much needed wind back in my creative sails. i have so many pretty things swirling in my brain. . . i actually miss my old advertising days. wow. i never thought i’d actually say that :0
Art Fair is filled with “One of a Kind” shopping experiences and the amazing parties, and a lunch with designers/business owners would be an amazing “One of Kind” experience, too. Please consider allowing Art Fair attendees to attend.
I think it would be awesome!!
Great idea! I am totally inspired by and would personally benefit from talking to such talented and successful women in the industry.
Ohhh that sounds amazing..I’d love to go to lunch with you and pick your brain!! I dabble and I use that word lightly in sewing and creating clothes for my girls so it would be fun to hang out with you and be inspired…as well with those other talented women!!
Love love love that idea!!! I’m soooo not creative at all, and I would love to hear all about how your dreams became reality – yours and Mitzi’s both. I find it so interesting, yet intimidating. How can I make my dreams a reality and what is my dream anyway??? Please consider me “entered.” THANKS!
Oh my goodness! Lunch with Denise, Mitzi and more to talk “shop” and a creative workshop sounds like heaven. I’ve always wished I could be a fly on the wall at 435 to witness your creative genius in action! This sounds AMAZING, just AMAZING! From the moment I stumbled onto Matilda Jane Clothing I’ve been in awe of your designs, photography, maketing, events and mostly your heart! From Spread the Love to every single button sewn on your pretties, MJC is the total package! I would love to be a LUCKY guest at your table!
where do you get all the fun jewelry on your adorable models ?
That’s a fabulous idea! As someone who runs a small but mighty marketing agency, I often look to my favorite brands and imagine the conversations that take place among their creative teams. I’d love to be a part of it.
Wow! What a wonderful time that would be…inspiring women who deal with two fun industries….clothes thshambles a girl’s personality shine and the shoes that add that something something to the outfit!
How AWESOME would it be to go to luck with you and Mitzi! I am obsessed with both of your amazing products. You are both beyond talented and I would LOVE to just hear your thought process. Great idea
A lunch meeting with MJ and L&L…count me in!
You have such fantastic ideas Denise! I admire so much those who have had the courage to take a leap of faith and start a business. The love you put into your company, and it seems the same at Livie&Luca, just pours out of your products. I am bringing my almost 16 year old daughter to AF (her bday is actually right after AF on June 25). I actually think it would be awesome for her to be in on your lunch. She is so creative; loves art and music. I try to nurture her creativity so she ends up loving what she does when she starts her career. It would be so good for her to observe and talk to such creative and successful (and kind) women
I would love to go to lunch with you guys!! Matilda Jane and Livie and Luca are 2 favorites.
If I got to have lunch with you and some of your team- I THINK I WOULD DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN!!! I think we could work out some sort of work plan too where I could fly up once a month and just hang with the MJC girls- I would even clean your fridge and toilet if you’d let me!
I am already so excited to come to Art Fair, I don’t know how I could sleep if I knew I would also get to lunch with such incredible women!! Livie & Luca and Matilda Jane are such a perfect partnership, what an opportunity to meet y’all!!
After the shock & utter surrealness fades just a tad, I’m sure I could studder out a few words
! You know the “Once in a lifetime…”?….THIS would be my “ONCE IN A LIFETIME” How amazing to be in the same room, let alone the same table, with such amazing, accomplished women. Then to have us, the consumer, involved in your “shop talk”….exciting, inspiring, thrilling, motivating…I’m on cloud nine just thinking about this opportunity!
PICK ME! PICK ME!
I would love to go to lunch with you guys! What an awesome idea!
Wow… I would LOVE to have the opportunity to have lunch with YOU and L&L….. What an amazing experience that would be….
PLEASE count me in, this is my 1st time attending Art Fair and I CAN NOT wait, too meet all of you lovely ladies.
Poor Gabe … hope he starts feeling better very soon … and Joe … so, so happy for him (and you as well, Denise!) as if he were my own!
Love the idea!
Just last night my hubs said to check out tickets to come to art fair. Whaa?!!! So I’m sure I’ve already missed out on everything good but I LOOOOOVE Livie & Luca shoes, they’re a daily staple around here so WHY NOT?!
Ooohhh, ME! ME! Pick me! lol I can’t get out any intelligent conversation other than that. I feel like Donkey in the opening portion of the Shrek DVD where you are supposed to press play and he’s jumping around saying Me! Me! Yup, that excited here!!!
Cloud 9… that is where I would be sitting after shopping all morning at Art Fair and then being able to sit down over lunch with two masterminds (Denise and Mitzi)… I have to say that the art work of Matilda Jane and Livie & Luca that makes up my daughters wardrobe brings life into our house. The opportunity to sit down and talk shop with you would be a dream come true…
Sounds super fun, Denise! You are always adding a little something extra to spice things up even more!
I would love to meet mitzi! –
About 1 year ago I was working out at the South bend (indiana) strollerfit (with my friend and MJC partner in crime, Ashley Evans) and our daughters were dressed in MJC and my daughter was wearing Livie & Luca shoes. All of a sudden, the person next to Ashley, looked at me and said the she designed the shoes. She then said that she was the designer for Livie & luca – unfortunatly she has a son (but I still told her about MJ). And a friendship over clothing and shoes was formed. Well, during the year, we told her what we loved and tried to tell her the importance of MJ in our lives and how the L&L shoes NEEDED to match. Ashley and I feel that maybe we helped push these 2 companies together
I invited her to art fair (with Ashley and I) but she will be leaving her job at L&L because her husband took a job in Singapore and she is unable to work due to visa issues.
She told me to look up Mitzi at art fair and mention her name (Sarah Babock).
Therefore, I (and Ashley Evans) would love to meet Mitzi!
Oh, how amazing would lunch be with all of you!?! Hope you have gotten over the hump of “plane sickness” – I sooooo believe in that. Excited to see what is coming next….
