Hello, all! Lauren, here. On the eve of the release of Paint By Numbers, I have a little confession to make. First, you should know that I tend to be pretty serious. Sure, I have a sense of humor, but it’s not often that I seem noticeably excited about something. The upcoming release, though, is a different story… Flipping through the catalog right now, I am smiling. I AM excited. Giddy, even. It’s gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. I feel proud to say I know the minds that created this collection!
Time for a quick story: Today I was in the car with Amy and Yama on the way to lunch and we were talking about how excited Yama must be to see the first collection she worked on from start to finish finally being released. “I bet it feels like Christmas Eve for you,” Amy said to Yama. Yama and I both paused…
Wordsmith that I am, I’m always trying to come up with analogies for things. Saying it feels like Christmas Eve didn’t seem quite right. The excitement factor is definitely there, but with all of that excitement also comes some amount of uncertainty. No matter how many beautiful collections Sam and Denise dream up, I know they still get this feeling too. While post-Dress Rehearsal praise from our amazing Trunk Keepers is a definite boost of confidence for anyone who had hand in the collection, we all get to be nervous (and excited!) all over again when we finally reveal it to EVERYONE.
That being said, tonight feels more like the night before Thanksgiving. Hear me out…
It’s like everyone is coming over tomorrow. The turkey is already in the oven, so the prep-work is out of our hands–all we can do at this point is hope that it turns out okay. If we’re lucky, it will turn out amazing! Keeping with that image, we’ve tried a few new “recipes,” and we just hope they are the right combination of all your favorite things! Maybe that’s silly, or maybe it doesn’t make as much sense as I’m thinking it does… The bottom line is that there are lots of new things in store and we hope you’re as excited to see them as we are to share them! Hopefully it will feel like a feast! Ha.
Paint By Numbers is special. Every Matilda Jane Collection is special, but I assure you that this one is positively a knockout! It’s stunning. The colors are rich and vibrant, and they play off of each other in ways that you will need to see to believe. Oh, and the prints! From hot air balloons and thread spools, to feathers and teapots, this collection really has it all.
Dress Rehearsal this year felt like a celebration of creativity, and I’m thinking that the debut of each Paint by Numbers collection will as well! Speaking of creativity…we design department gals had the idea to share how we would style some of our favorite pieces from Paint By Numbers with ol’ faithfuls from our own closets. Take a (sneak!) peek below and let us know what you think! We just might send a little something special to one or two lucky commenters…

Kayla is wearing the Butterfly Pants, a re-worked version of our signature ruffles. These woven, paneled pants feature ties on the side of the leg so you can wear them flowy and free or all tied up for a bike ride! Sam is sporting the Liberty Button-Up, and looking very much like the artist she is (if I do say so myself) in a bold, printed maxi skirt. We all love this chambray shirt with contrast cuffs because it adds a hint of something special to a piece every lady should have in her closet.

There on the left, I’m wearing the Hazel Circle Skirt. I didn’t think twice about “cute-ing” up this already-cute skirt with a vintage silk blouse, bright tights, and Livie & Luca flats. Last but not least, Yama is wearing the Island Blue Top with straight-leg jeans and lightweight cardigan to brighten up those beautiful blues!
We never miss a chance to put our own creative spin on our favorite Matilda Jane pieces, and we’d love to see what you come up with, too!

It is truly amazing how much creativity flows from Denise and all of her fellow artists. You all at MJC are true blessings and I know that your hearts are elated to bless others. Some of us mommas are so blessed by your creativity and making these pretties that our little girls can adorn while they are still little.
I have never had the courage to purchase an adult piece as I have shopped at thrifty stores or I shop sales so that my little Amelia can have pretty dresses and dreams. Dreams that she is a ballerina, princess, or any other make-believe person she wants to be.
I love the momma pieces and they are so fun and youthful in a sophisticated way. I hope that I am brave enough to buy a couple this release and I think they are great, colorful items that will get heads turning and make me fell like a princess too.
Love the Hazel circle skirt! My fiercely independent, free thinking, spunky styled nine year old may be more excited than me though. Her new Livie & Lucas arrived in the mail yesterday and she can’t wait to pick the perfect first day of school outfit from tomorrow’s release. I just adore the butterfly pants… they remind me of the ekaterina dress (which is my ULTIMATE favorite MJC piece of all time!!!) but in a cropped pant. Super flattering and the color is nice for fall, too. A little bold for me, but I think I need to get out of my comfort zone and be “bold and brave” with this new Paint By Numbers release!!

First of all I have to say fall is my FAVORITE!!!! season:) and second you ladies have done an amazing job of capturing the feelings of fall in your styles and colours used! The Butterfly Pants will be a go to piece for me in the fall! Love the colour i’m picturing them with a grey or brown top and a soft warm mustard scarf:) The Hazel Circle skirt is so fun and whimsical and the Island Blue top is so date worthy, not that I have time for a date, lol. Finally the Liberty button up paired with leggings would be sunday comfort in the most fabulous way! I love this release, classic MJ we’ve come to love but with a twist, LOVE IT! Pat on the back:)

I as well love the salsa maxi dress, jamie dress/skirt and the weekender skirt. My favorite clothes to wear now!! I would have to say MJC is the most comfortable and cutest clothes EVER!!!! I am very excited for the new release tomorrow. I love the fabric chosen for the circle skirt and I can’t wait to see all of the new designs that you all have worked very hard to create. -“Those who live in thanksgiving daily, have a way of opening their eyes and seeing the wonders and beauties of this world as though seeing them for the first time”. This line gives me a little Native American feel (just a hint), but that goes well with your Thanksgiving analogy. The bold colors and prints are gorgeous. I am just about to burst with anticipation – much like I do before any big holiday that I get to spend with family and friends. You have all of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving, too. The first thing will be the parade (the release of Paint by Numbers). Then we get to eat! The juicy turkey (Paint by Numbers) is sure to be served with dressing and stuffing (detail after detail that make your pieces so special and delicious). I can’t forget about the pumpkin pie, or in my Granny’s case caramel pie (your yummy fabrics and notions). I’m ready to taste it right now! …and after the big game (my mailman delivering my package) I get to wrap up in the luxurious fabrics and lie back and relax with my family! Oh I can’t wait!!! Now I just need to decide if I want to eat at the adult table or the kids table first. I know we will love Paint by Numbers and we’re definitely thankful for all of you at Matilda Jane!! And by the way…I definitely think I’ll style some of these pieces with some delicate turquoise jewelry and golden or brown leather shoes and play up on the Native American vibe I’m getting! I absolutely love the butterfly pants and think I could just live in them.

Have been anxiously awaiting the reveal of the Paint by Numbers collection, today’s the day! The “sneaks” just added to the excitement for both girl & adult. So much potential for mixing things up; Hazel Circle skirt could be worn with Island Blue top & cardigan or the Liberty Button-up for dressier or more casual. Looking forward to mixing things up for little MJ granddaughter!

I’ve never worn Matilda Jane … Thought it was “too young” for me. But now I’m excited to try it – I can do THIS!
I feel so lucky to have happened upon an extremely cute 12 month old wearing Matilda Jane… Because now, after going over and over and over the collections and blog posts, I am definitely hooked- line and sink-ered!!! The Butterfly pants look like a chic super Mom’s dream- and I really love the vibrant, jewel-toned color! Bring on the leaves– and let me shower my closet with MJ!!! Oh, and did I even MENTION my daughter’s closet, too?!?
Well, I am loving it all! I especially like the hazel skirt with those cute yellow shoes!!! I think the one cutest piece in the whole thing is the Island blue top. I LOVE it.LOVE it!!!! I think it would look great with anything, but I have a grey polka dot skirt that would look totally adorable with it.
