“Vacation”

We are day 4 into our “vacation” and I am still wondering when vacation will start. It is so hard to turn my brain off sometimes. Our days have been filled with a short trek to Petoskey 2x a day to take Joe to speech, then we do homework, grab lunch somewhere, and come back home for a little more homework and grab a few moments to read on the porch. David and the boys have made it their search nearly everyday for Petoskey stones as I work on trying to use up remaining fabrics Carla has in her workshop.

I really need to take some more photos. If you have never been to northern Michigan, you must. It is breath taking. The air is filled with freshness and a sense of peace. I truly love it up here. Though, last night David and I had had a discussion on whether we liked Seaside better than up North, and I must say Seaside won. I think the tipping point was the energy Seaside seems to have. Who knows…I think I have been thinking too much.

So I am off to try to convince Gabe to take a walk to the doughnut shop before David and Joe get home from speech. You’d think it’d be easy but man, Gabe is a tough one to convince of anything….maybe I will just tell him it is a candy shop. I know, close to the same thing but if you know Gabe they are complete opposites.

LOVE northern Michigan. Just returned from Mullett Lake a couple weeks ago and it once again delivered as lovely, magical, relaxing, organic. So many different emotions fill my husband and I as we spend time in a cottage that is nearly 100 year old with our little ones, family and friends.

And my sweet baby girl sported a little Matilda Jane magic while we were there…www.fordupdates.blogspot.com – check it out! Love so much about MJC – the company and people seem pure. Thank you for all that you do!

Hmmm, do you have a ton of knits left over?? I’d love to see another Damsal!
I always find that it takes at least 3-4 days to unwind before you start to feel like you are on vacation, and just when you’re in to the swing of things, it’s time to go home…

ENJOY the vacation … but am curious … with what kind of creative ways are your trying to use up Carla’s fabric surpluses!?! If my meager opinion counts, I’d sure love to see a damsel, molly, or tiered knot again someday soon!

A damsel dress would be awesome!!! With the same sizing as the original :)

“Gabe, want to go to Coldstone Creamery?”
Only if I can have every topping they have.
“You can have two toppings.”
Then I don’t want to go.
“No ice cream, Gabe?”
Only if I can have every topping.

We did not go for ice cream. His focus will pay off for him.

Please make some ruffled leggings from T1108 to match our misty. :) We loved Gypsy Blue. How about some round about ellie dresses or tiered ellie dresses with that beautiful left over fabric?

I used to live in MI. Loved it!!! Hey, if you need an idea for using up those extra fabrics, why don’t you make a little lap dress out of the Sabine fabric with little pockets out of that yellow with red floral(just like the pockets on the Hotline Maggie). That would be cute! Or, a Maggie style dress with Sabine fabric at the top and the yellow fabric on the bottom. Maybe some cute little green pockets:)

Love how you all remember the damsal…..Hmmm I forgot about her…I’ll have to put that in the think tank…

There is something super unique and special about the Seaside area. I am sure where you are is beautiful, but nothing beats the beaches of 30A!

We consider our place in Northern Michigan heaven on earth. It looks like you’ve found your own little corner of heaven. Enjoy the last of your week and eat some Tom’s Mom’s for us!

I adore Gypsy Blue…I love all the lines but I am still nuts over the tank dress (the one that had to have a maroon top- my mind escapes me as to the name.) That with the striped straightees. I cannot find it in a decent price for tween sizes. Was it made in a 10? I “need” it. LOL. Maybe a remake of that? :) Or a similar type outfit. We have run through 3 pair of the straightees between 2 kids. lol. Is it a maggie dress? Anyway I love the fabrics, the feel, magical. LOVE. but again…I don’t think there has been a collection yet that I haven’t loved…and yes the damsel was an awesome dress, would be a great remake as well with GB materials.

The picture you posted it beautiful. Makes me want to drop everything and come to northern MI to enjoy the goodness of it all.

Turn the brain off and just be! I just got back from vacation and it was wonderful to recharge!!

I am so glad that you are able to have a little vacation. My son loves candy but is not a big doughnut fan, so that is a hard sale for my son. In fact I tried to get some the other day and he talked me out of it. I hope that you had better luck and got to enjoy a nice hot doughnut!

Hi Denise and family – We love Northern MI. My husband is originally from Gaylord. We spend a lot of time in Petoskey and Harbor Springs. It is a slice of heaven…head to Zorn Beach after some ice cream..can’t get any better than that. Also, google Little Traverse Bay Conservancy if you don’t already know about it. It is a wonderful nonprofit that buys land in MI to keep it preserved.

Denise – One more thing…go to Roast and Toast in Petoskey if you haven’t already…GREAT soups and sandwiches along with a little java. :)

Denise - August 12, 2011 - 7:55 pm

I beat you to it…that’s where we ate lunch the other day!!

Hey Denise, Guess we will have to try Seaside since we are in love with Petoskey and Harbor Springs. If you have not been to Cupola Room in Harbor Springs (it is a bit hidden-in a house of the owners)it is to die for. They only serve breakfast (for a few hours each morning)and it is super pricey but I promise, you will not be thinking about work while loving every bit! Lemon glazed panacakes, fresh peach pancakes, everything is amazing!!! Enjoy your vacation!

I love Petoskey! Such fond memories of sailing there. And of my friend’s wedding there.
