At least once a week I have a day where I feel like I cannot do anything right. I’m sure it’s part of being an anxiety filled woman (aren’t we all?) but man I hate it! I just wanna shake the feeling and KNOW that I’m not a walking disaster! Have any good advice for this? Other than Xanax, ha!! After spending the week with me, Lauren says she thinks I’m a tornado. And Denise has always said sunshine. I wonder which it is and I wonder why everyone compares me to weather!

So today I’m going to make a point to design some new art fair pieces so I can get my head straightened out. I feel like I was so busy before I went to China that I didn’t get a spare moment to create any new pretties. And now that I’ve been back for almost a week it’s time to get down to business. As much as Denise doesn’t want art fair to become ‘Sam Land’, I don’t want it to be all ‘Denise Town’ either!! We are good competition for each other to have around, keep each other on our toes. Every time something beautiful comes back from our seamstress, and it isn’t mine, I literally look at it and try to learn something. I try to see the different ways she chooses color and how gorgeous the end result can be. We have very similar taste, but not the exact same by any means. Our ‘eye for color’ compliments one another I would say though!

Sometimes it’s absolutely scary working with someone as amazing as Denise. Or, omg, don’t even get me started on Lynette! They are both masterful. But then I think “Sam, you are 23…you have years to be incredible, to gain knowledge, and to learn how to speak well in public too!” I just have to learn to step back and take it one day at a time. And seriously, the Sam one year ago is not the same Sam today. So I know I’m learning, I know I’m growing.

This is all over the place. I know. It’s how I think!! And it’s definitely how I interview!! We interviewed 2 graphic designers this past week and you should have seen us. Constantly looking at one another for a word or a sentence. And the graphic designers?? Both AMAZING. I’m so excited to see what they can bring to the MJC table. Of course, only if David lets us hire both of them…
LOVE,
SAM

can I request some ellies without aprons?? They are my favorite! Have fun, wish I could be there, so jealous!
So you are incredible … and I’m exhausted after reading this! But smiling … so it’s all good, ya? The words are great, but your pictures are worth a thousand words!
I agree about the ellies without aprons! And size 10 without pink, please! 😉 so hard to do, I know! I love pink my older dd does not! lol!
TO BE HONEST I AM NOT SURE HOW TO TAKE CARE OF ANXIETY EITHER! I am filled with it and it has taken over. MEds are the only way I think! Hope your day turns around.
Sam – The best advice ever given to me during one of my weekly “I’m drowning” meltdowns, “JUST BREATHE!” A bottle, eerrrr glass, of wine doesn’t hurt too much either!!!!
My reccomendation is to get some ltheanine. It’s an amino acid and it helps with anxiety and focus. I deal with both of those things too. My brain is creative and passionate and sometimes I’m all over the place. Try it and let me know how it works for you. Just remember not to compare yourself too much to others. Love yourself for the unique and amazing person God made you to be. xoxo:)
Sam,
Breathe, take a minute to close your eyes and relax, find some sunshine to soak in, take a break for coffee or chocolate or ice cream or all three. Know that you are loved and you have a purpose and a destiny. If you like books, Captivating by Eldridge is a must for all women.
Oh Sam, as a 32 year old mother of three who at your age was knee deep in a career surrounded by older people and wanting to sit at the “adult table” I feel as though I missed out on a lot. Here is the only wisdom I can impart on you: Enjoy being able to learn from your mentors, don’t try to compete with the years they have on you, because they are mentors and in ten years time, you will have gained all of that unpretentious knowledge which you can impart on a 23 year old future Sam of the world. You are in a unique place in life, embrace it, and the knowledge and know that at 23 I am certain that Denise and Lynette were scratching their heads at least half of the time too. Look at what you are a part of – some of us are fiends for YOUR creations – they aren’t always Denise or Lynettes – so embrace the artistry and stop trying to be more like others in some race – because as Baz Lurman said “the race is long and in the end it is only with yourself”. Good luck young lady!
My advice for your anxiety- you should hire me!!! hahahahaha:) I would be your ear- your backboard to bounce off of….. just saying:) Its ok to be young- I am- and I was a first year teacher too- everyone watches you- waiting for you to screw up or something- thats when you just have to prove them all wrong!
Just Breathe Sam- everything will turn out like its supposed to:) Now- get back in that room and design your little heart out- make sure we have some ellies for AF!! (with little pockets too:))
I completely “get” you and I love this all over the place post!!!!
That collage is drool worthy. I am so excited for the big changes headed the MJC way. *major fan*
Sam.. I have some good tips for anxiety that don’t require any meds (or diet coke).. lol..
