March 28-29th Matilda Jane will be hosting an online auction for Habitat for Humanity.  We were a part of the women’s build last year and it left such a impact in all of us that we knew we had to join their team again this year. I remember this day like it was yesterday. This picture says it all. A whole team coming together as one to put up the first wall of Trinnel’s home. This day was life changing for Trinell and we were just happy to be apart of it.

This auction will be a great start in raising the funds for another build in September. You will NOT want to miss out as there are so many GREAT vendors who are donating their goods and time. I don’t want to give it all away but a few of the items you can look forward to seeing are,  Livie and Luca donated a pair of shoes for girls, boys and women, Paperlili donated a fun bohemian style bag with the MJC logo, and  The Organic Bloom donated a beautiful frame. Lets also not forget, the icing on the cake, are the many photographers who will be donating sessions. They are located all across the US so there is sure to be one close by you.

Our goal is to raise $30,000, which is what it cost to co-sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house. I know through this auction and some other things we have in store we can blow that goal out of the water.  You ladies always have our backs during these fundraisers and for that we are so grateful. You have made it possible for MJC to spread love to so many deserving places. A BIG THANK YOU in advance for those who donated and to those of you who purchase those items. I have said it before but you really are changing lives, so THANK YOU.

Last Wednesday, a group of us girls went to the Habitat for Humanity’s Annual Dinner. I went last year and I must say, it just keeps getting better. They have silent auction items as well as guest speakers and a yummy dinner. Lynette was asked to speak at the dinner on behalf of MJC and did a great job answering questions. She even gave a shout out to all you women who have followed MJC and been apart of what we do and supported us in every venture. We were even presented with a plaque which all of us thought was SUPER cool.

Now the plaque is proudly displayed on Lynette’s desk till we find the perfect spot for it. Hopefully, there are more to follow.

With Africa in May and Habitat build starting in September, MJC is filled with LOTS of exciting events we are excited to share with all of you.

Speaking of Africa, we had a video conference with Jennifer yesterday. She lives in Rwanda and is the one who set these 11 women up with Noonday Collections. These women are her neighbors and friends and has been working with them from the beginning. She is VERY passionate about this partnership, and we are equally excited. It was nice to put a face to the many emails back and fourth we have been doing since we were aware of this trip. It is hard to believe May is just around the corner. We have finally set dates for the trip, May 4th-18th. Two whole weeks in Rwanda and I don’t think it has really sunk in yet. There are so many things we have to get done in those two weeks, and we are crossing fingers time will also allow for some site seeing.

Do you think it is too soon to start a count down? In case the answer is “No” there are 58 days till we take the 33+ hour journey to Kigali. We plan on recording and photograph the whole trip so we promise to share our journey with you when we return to the states. Luckily we get back on a Friday so we have the whole weekend to rest.

Thanks again to those of you who are purchasing the “Our Trip” items on Platinum. We have enjoyed trying new items (Cuffs, Passport Covers) that normally are not featured and are thrilled when they all sell out. Rumor has it that there might be another up load under the “Giving” tab this week, so stay tuned to www.matildajaneplatinum.com website for those items.

Well that’s all folks’. I suppose I have to get back to work.  It is suppose to get up to 65 today, so we have the office door open to the outside and are enjoying some fresh air. Makes it hard not to skip out of work when no one is looking. I wonder if they would notice?

Hope your day is as sunny as ours!

XOXO

Kayla

Dreaming Out Loud

Oh, I shoulda just kept my nose in my book today! But the problem is, I am just starting to read Cutting Stone and I can’t get into it. Anne says stay with it, it is worth it, but man, 2 pages and I’m lost. My mind is so far off.  I thought reading would take you to a place, you know let you escape the moment? Ha.not so much.

Today has been a day of craziness.  Trying to launch The Good Ones reminds me so much of the early days of Matilda Jane. So many hurdles, so exhausting jumping them all but once you do, the wind is at your back (or for the most part). We’ll get there.

But much more exciting is I cannot stop thinking about Spring 2013. Sam and I started working on fabrics again. I love this time. We sit and relish in color and our dreams for Matilda Jane. I start talking about bedding, and of course chenille bedding coverlets with..dang I can’t say, it’s gotta be top secret for when it does happen and Sam goes on with an accessory line for little girls and then I decide we gotta start doing winter coats and rainboots and the list goes on. We love dreaming.  There is so much out there that we have not touched.

Not only would all these things be beautiful but then I think all the ways we could apply them to touch others lives. I mean we already donate a ton of clothing to girls through our Spread the Love Program and to international orphanages but being able to give them cute bedding, and shoes and umbrella and just one big smile. That right there is the best part of the dream.

beth - March 6, 2012 - 6:23 pm

the best part about what you do (beside the adorable clothes, charitable work, etc) is that you inspire girls to dream. truly dream. and then MAKE IT HAPPEN. you are a role model for so many. and for that, we thank you.

HP - March 6, 2012 - 6:23 pm

Looks like a match to TGO on the right-oh this is going to be trouble!

Sylvia Alam - March 6, 2012 - 6:40 pm

I love both of these outfits!! This sounds like a good time to BEG you to make most if not all your 2013 items up to size 12 tween!! My daughter is only 6 and wears size 8/10. Makes me SO SAD to think she will outgrow MJ by the time she is in second grade :-( Please Please remember that the little girls that have been wearing MJ for years if not most of their lives have grown up now and need the tween sizes. Thanks!

Isabella's Mami - March 6, 2012 - 6:43 pm

I love that you’re a dreamer, Denise! I am too! My email addy probably makes that obvious. :) Chenille bedding? Be still my heart. As you work on next spring pls. think about making more in 10s and 12s. Our little girls who have been wearing MJC for a long time are growing up and not ready to outgrow it yet! Rachel K. (Holly's Mama) - March 7, 2012 - 10:43 am

I know about being busy so I can relate! I haven’t been able to read the blog as much lately because of all the activities my daughter is involved in and the amount of hours I volunteer at her school. I miss reading the blog but at the same time I’m happy to be busy doing things to help my girl and her school. I love these beautiful pieces that are pictured here. So glad I am having a trunk show on April 1st. I love that you and Sam are dreamers and dream up some amazing things. Also love that Serendipity has a lot of floral fabrics. That’s what attracted me to MJ over 3 years ago :)

Jessica Harris - March 7, 2012 - 11:03 am

Heather Yellina - March 7, 2012 - 12:02 pm

yoga_lat_te - March 7, 2012 - 7:09 pm

Have been meaning to tell you this for a while now …: How would you feel about writing your own memoir … now, that would make a book I would have a hard time putting down! Your absolutely unmatched creativity, amazing sense of style, generosity, etc., etc. … where did all this come from?, I’ve long wondered. Please add this to your list of things to do (I will wait patiently, I promise)!

Kristi Green - March 7, 2012 - 8:44 pm

Bedding would be SO cute! Love the mix and match sheets and duvets I have now, but would love some cute ones for my girls’ beds! :)

abby reid - March 8, 2012 - 11:43 am

Everyday I am inspired by all the young women I coach and all the young women I teach. Oftentimes, I get asked the question, “how do you handle it all”. I handle it all by having goals and working towards them. I handle it because I want to. I handle it by trying to be a positive influence in someone else’s life. I handle it with high expectations. I handle it because I have so many to handle. I handle it because I want to, I want to see these young woman become people to inspire others and aspire to be like. I handle it. Proudly!

Vanessa Reese - March 8, 2012 - 2:19 pm

I just asked my daughter if she liked the soda pop tank, and she said “yeh, if it comes with the top hat!” lol! Love that kid’s perspective!

Thanks for playing.

I’m not sure I can remember the last time I laughed that hard over something on the internet.

You girls had me rolling and believe me when I say these are totally random contests.

Seriously, how could I have picked a winner???

So Laneale Robertson, please send the lovely Kiara at [email protected]

an email with your little ladies size.

Congratulations!!!
