I can tell it’s about to be the beginning of a new season because I can’t keep my head straight. Yep, it’s true. I told Denise I might explode today….that’s why this blog is going to be in list form. Easy for me to type and easy to keep straight, because that is so not my strong suit today.
1. I’m so excited about the release of Serendipity next week. Lynette just walked in my office telling me how much the TK’s love it. And for some reason I’m still surprised. I know it’s silly of me especially because of how much I love Serendipity, but I’m my own worst critic and I won’t believe you guys like it until you REALLY get to see it and feel it. Only time will tell!! At least February 1st is literally just around the corner!
2. We have been hiring so many new people to pack your orders! Yep, we want to get pulling, packing, and shipping done as fast as possible come Feb 1st! This is good news for you guys, but also feels really scary to me. I’m just so protective of MJC, I want every single person who walks through our doors to be the PERFECT fit…and when we do so many hires at once it makes me nervous! Ha, but by now you guys have realized I have what Denise calls ‘chronic nervosa’, right? I think David may suffer from this too…
3. I still haven’t told you guys about how AMAZING the boys photo shoot in Austin went. Probably because I’m not allowed to give away much about it yet, but it’s on my mind 24/7. And soon it will be in yours too!! I bet we will start dishin’ out sneak peeks in the next couple of weeks!
4. I got to do a mini studio photo shoot yesterday at Betsy Kings studio with some of my absolute favorite people on this planet. Check out Matildajaneclothing.com and you’ll notice almost all of the items now have little girls as their main photo! What do you think?! Yesterday we had to take a few new photos to replace some old flats… So there’s two new cute girls on there!
5. Platinum might be a bit slower at the beginning of the Serendipity season, but it won’t be making any hard stops!! We have plans to keep this baby running as smoothly and as quickly as we possibly can while sparing a couple 433 gals to help the 435 girls pack your orders!!
6. Lucky #6!! Time for a contest to win my 6 favorite Serendipity pieces in your darling girls size. Pretty cool, eh? Now Denise said to make this contest as hard as possible, since it’s such a great prize and what not.. She even suggested asking you “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” but since I don’t know the answer to that, I’m going to ask something else! 7. Denise, Lynette, David, Carla, and I are heading to Vegas during the second week of February and I’m REALLY excited about it. Yes it’s for work, but I have a feeling there will be a little ‘play’ snuck in there too… Or maybe I’m just hoping for some!? I know David will make sure we have some fun, the man loves Vegas!

For us, MJ is my warm blanket, a comfy and stylish dress that I can “live in”. It’s like coming home … we’ve moved with the Navy 4 times in the last 3 years, Seattle to Newport, RI, and now to VA Beach and most of our clothes have seasons but with our MJ, it’s just as fab in the Spring as it is in Fall… our houses have changed, the seasons have passed, but our MJ stays with us.
I think MJC started in Denise’s home and garage during the art fair days.
Then it grew and moved into the Warehouse. Now she has 435. These are the physical places… I see where Matilda Jane lives at my house. It lives because it is worn by two lively little girls and myself! It lives in the ruffles on the backside of the twinkie diaper cover that wriggles as my baby toddles across the den. It lives in the happy twirling of my kindergardener as she dances in her Holly Molly skirt. It lives in my reflection as I admire how nice my Pesto Finns look with my boots. It lives when we feel nice and happy in our comfortable, unique, colorful, fabulous Matilda Jane clothes!

I’m new to this Matilda Jane Obsession – well almost a year- so I’m not positive of all the places Matilda Jane has been housed. Okay, file this one under educated guess that is probably wrong. There a two ways to look at whee MJC has “lived.” if we are talking about Denise’s head and heart, I’d say Cheboygan, MI where she is from, Sault Ste. Marie where she and David went to school at LSSU and now in Fort Wayne.
If we were thinking about physical locations, it would be Denise and David’s house in Fort Wayne (I started looking at property records but it made me feel like a stalker so I stopped), the sweet 1,200 square foot studio (maybe at 2301 Fairchild though that’s a wild guess) and your home today at 435 and 433 East Brackenridge.

1st- i can’t wait to see serendipity!!! I just know its going to be amazing.
2nd – My son just got the Field Trip jacket from the sale and he wont take it off!! He loves it that much. 🙂
3rd. I have thought about the contest question and I’m not quite sure where all 3 homes of MJ have been. I was thinking you first had the bottom half of the 435 E Brackenridge Street building in Fort Wayne. Then you grew and filled the WHOLE building instead of just the bottom floor. And now you have the 433 E. Breckenridge building for just Platinum. So that would probably only be considered as 2 homes. You also have art fair at Denises house and transform it into a mini Matilda Jane extravaganza. So not sure if that would be considered a temporary home or not. Then I know you LOVE your ladies in Shanghai and have spent lots of time over there getting everything perfect for the new lines. So that might be considered a home.
If there was a place before 435, I’m not sure, but I’m sure if there was one you will let us know!!!!

How specific do we need to be…Matilda Jane started off in Denise’s home (took it over!), then moved to a studio in Ft. Wayne in 2007, and now is at its current home at 435 and recently 433! Dear Lord, please let this be specific enough, lol! 😉
Just 3 places huh? From Denise’s heart and her imagination to her fingertips… from art fairs to trunk shows and online sales… from her home to 435 and 433. In the closets and on the little bodies of thousands upon thousands of little girls, helping them stay little girls… to say MJ has only lived in three places would be an understatement 🙂
“How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” answer: if a wood chuck could chuck wood he would chuck just as much wood as a wood chuck could if a wood chuck could chuck wood. lol I know this wasn’t the real question but this has always been my answer to that question since I was a little girl 🙂

By the way … I had the “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” in a work Trivia Game at my sales meeting two years ago.
I won a Wii because my answer was “there are too many variables to answer this question with certainty because it would depend on the woodchuck.” Which was to say that I had no idea! But it worked! If I answered incorrectly, it would have gone to the next person …
Note: I have no idea why I still have this, but here is the offical answer – someone did find this reference on their phone, but we weren’t supposed to cheat!
The amount of wood that woodchucks would chuck on a given day varies greatly with the individual woodchuck. According to a Wall Street Journal article, New York State wildlife expert Richard Thomas found that a woodchuck could chuck around 35 cubic feet of dirt in the course of digging a burrow. Thomas reasoned that if a woodchuck could chuck wood, he would chuck an amount equal to 700 pounds.
Some say it depends on three factors:
•The woodchuck’s desire to chuck said wood.
•The woodchuck’s need to chuck the aforementioned wood.
•The woodchuck’s ability to chuck the wood when it is a woodchuck
Bonus question was:

I said, “She” thinking that was crazy, but I won the extra controller pack to the Wii!

Matilda Jane as a company has lived in fort Wayne, Peru, and now china. Production wise at least 🙂 its has lived in thousands of little girls rooms, closests, and strug throughout their houses across the US and throughout the world. It has brightened orphanages in Africa. And it has captured thousands of mommys and grandmas hearts wanting to get the perfect pieces for our perfect little girls. Matilda Jane has lived, and been loved, everywhere!!
