But first let’s start with the best Christmas gift of the year. Wait, rewind, let’s starts with the conversation we David and I had on the Eve of Christmas. We had just filled up the tree and it hit me, this would be our first Christmas without Goliath. It was about 12 years ago when we got the keys to our first house. The first thing we did was to drive south of Indianapolis to pick up our puppy Newfoundland. He was perfectly named Goliath. I had always been in love with Newfie’s since the first time I laid my eyes on one years prior. And the funny thing was, the first one I met was bald. But he was beautiful and sweet and I knew I was going to get one someday.
So, of course, I had tears in my eyes as I remembered all the great Goliath stories. I had this book a while ago, Gentle Giants by the famed Bruce Weber. It was a beyond gorgeous book. It went out of print and was worth quite a bit of money. Well, times got tough, we had a baby and I had about 10 art fair registrations to pay for. And guess what happened? I sold the book! Well, I was sad but at least I didn’t have to sell Goliath.
And the first present I opened on Christmas morning was that very book, Gentle Giants. Of course, I cried. It was perfect.
Now for my little secret. And a secret I can only share cuz my boys don;t read the blog. A secret that must be shared know cuz all the wrapping paper is on sale. You see those 2 gifts wrapped in the green paper with the red bow? About 3-4 years ago, we bough oh, I would have to say 25-30 rolls of this paper on clearance. Every year, Santa uses it to wrap his gifts in. Right now, the boys don’t notice but there will come a time when they will look back at all their Christmas photos and recognize that paper. There will come a time, say when they are 16, and they will wonder how the heck Santa still has that paper. There will come a time when we will only be able to wrap real tiny gifts in that paper.
Hopefully there will never come a time when Santa does not use this paper!
