I hope you all had a great 4th of July. I’m not sure if I told you that we got a summer (well, winter too) house up in Northern Michigan about a little over a month ago. We’d been looking for a couple if years but wanted so many things that we could never find the perfect one. Well, and a perfect one at a price we could afford. On the way home from Spring Break I was just googling and we found a great home that has been empty for the past 5-6 years and was in foreclosure. I sent my dad and sister to check it out and then next weekend we drove up and put in an offer.
We closed about a month ago only to have a forest fire the same day. It burned about 5 of our acres from the driveway back. Needless to say, it’s been pretty exciting here.
This past weekend is the first time I’ve stayed here. It was quite scary the first night with just my mom, Joe and Sara Brown. We are pretty deep in the woods with no cell phone or Internet. It’s a little bit of an adjustment to have to drive a mile or so to check emails.
Anyways, Dan and Chelsa plus kids, Anne and Tom plus kids, and David’s parents all came up this week. I’m do loving it here..jpg)
2 days later…
Just as I sat down to finish this post I caught Franklin eating an ant trap. Little nervous about that. I did call a vet and we’ll see in a few what to do
So everyone left for home and I must admit I’m a bit sad. I wanna go too. I love love it here. It’s is the most peaceful and beautiful place. I mean seriously when else do I get to wander the woods and shoot arrows with Joe?.jpg)
I was telling David I was really missing home and Matilda Jane. Of course he said that I should just come home. Ahhh…the easy thing to do, right? But I made a commitment last summer that this summer my main focus was Joes speech. I can’t just pack up and go home.
I bet it sounds funny, being in a beautiful relaxing place yet yearning to get home and work. Oh man, when you love work that is seriously all you think about. It’s part of who you are. It’s me, heart and soul.
The vet just called. Wow, what a nice guy. Franklin’s fine. You have no idea ( well, you probably do if you have a pet) how much we are in love with Franklin. I’ve never had an animal so attached to us. Seriously, he follows us around, is über cuddly and when he gets in trouble he just hangs his head low. Love him
So now I must wrap up this blog and say “I miss you all” and head down the street a mile or 2 a hold my phone to the sky and await the appearance of the 4 magic bars!!!

I have missed reading your blog. I unplugged awhile back when my son wrote in his 1st grade journal that I am on the computer too much.
I felt so bad and realized it was time for a little break- and time to focus more on him. So glad Franklin is ok. Your house sounds perfect. Hope you get to enjoy every minute this summer there and I bet Joe is loving that he has so much special time with mom.
I am so glad, Franklin is ok he is so cute and the new house look gorgeous, I love the purple chairs.
I loved reading this blog! Thanks for sharing the pictures. My favorite is the table with Catan! That is our favorite board game!
I’m going to be doing the same thing, going on vacation and won’t have internet for 7 days, little scary. But it will be fun to have those days to spent with my kids and hubby. Good luck with your sons speech, My son is not able to talk but has a communtication device that he can use, he’s not greatest at it but what a joy that he can tell us what he likes and wants, hoping to getting a Ipad soon so we can even do more with him, the device he has now is alittle big and hard to take with.
You are a great mom! It will all be so worth it!
Seriously cute house! Do you have a cuteness wand? How did you decorate a whole house in just a month’s time? Amazing! It looks so gorgeous there & serene, but I can understand that push-pull of enjoying the now, but thinking about what is coming next. Oh, we LOVE Settlers of Catan!!! Jack always begs us to play, but it always takes about 2 hours (we only have the original version), so we don’t have as much time to play as I wish we did…enjoy this time you have! Have a beautiful, blessed summer!
Thank you for sharing
Looks like a cozy place:) So glad you finally found the right one! It is weird to be disconnected for a while isn’t it? I feel that way at our lake house. I actually thought I lost my phone when i fell asleep and remembered Carson was out tubing with his papa in the boat- I had a panic attack! Its nice just to know that friends are at an arms reach if needed:) Enjoy the time in the new place- and know we miss you too! Before long it will be school time! ugh!
we loooooove that game, such a great one!! and i can relate a little bit, we are doing sessions at a speach/language/reading center for our son this summer.
Do I spy Catan? Northern MI sounds like the perfect getaway spot. We honeymooned there. I always say I’d rather have a summer home in Michigan than a winter home in Florida. Try to relax. These days are the stuff memories are made of!
The weather is so beautiful in Northern Michigan this summer! Hope you are enjoying every minute…summer is short in these parts, and the scenery is beautiful!
Just catching up … going backwards … read Sam’s cute post about the new fall line… and then your cute post about the new fall line … and now this totally presh post! You are doing the right thing, but it’s okay to want to be at home and working! How lucky to love what you do so much!
Still so bummed I missed AF and getting to meet all’ya’all!
